Sometimes it just becomes so very obvious that some people really know what they are talking about. When rock icon Tom Petty wrote the words to this classic song he clearly was talking about National Signing Day:
The waiting is the hardest part, every day you get one more yard,
You take take it on faith, you take it to the heart,
Yeah, the waiting is the hardest part.
Never did those words ring any truer than today as grown men (and women) who count themsleves among the many millions of college football fans all across this great Country sit and wait for some high school kids to give them some news, any news, on the day before the annual ritual known as National Signing Day.
Tomorrow, the first Wednesday in February, fans will skip out on school, work and other pressing personal responsibilities and stay glued to their televisions and their computers as they scour every sports channel and the Internet for the latest up-to-date information about which highly sought after high school football players have signed official letters of intent with their teams.
University of Miami fans will be no different than those from Florida State, USC, Alabama, Stanford, Virginia Tech, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame, LSU, Oregon or Ohio State as they wait patiently, no make that anxiously, to hear about the newer, and therefore automatically better, talent that is soon to arrive at their respective schools.
This year Miami Hurricanes head coach Al Golden is desperately seeking another infusion of new talent in Coral Gables. After two seasons that have not produced the results on the field that he or Miami fans might have hoped for, Golden knows that his team needs to get better and get better fast.
Unlike last year when UM had a huge recruiting class and signed around 30 players, this recruiting class will be much smaller by comparison. With fewer scholarships to offer it will be quality, not quantity, that is the key as any recruiting misses or mistakes will become magnified.
Still nobody can predict what might happen on National Signing Day, when it all becomes official when the formal Letters of Intent begin to arrive at the Hecht Athletic Center in Coral Gables.
Until then we wait. And as Tom Petty knows, the waiting is the hardest part.

Canes about to be on ESPN halftime show

Well, there's always the question of whether Brooks truly declined the U to go to Baylor or whether there might be other folks on the DL on board (?Bostwick, Bryant......cough, cough...).
All will come out however it will manana. Sleep tight, especially you, Ohio. You've got a big day ahead.

Lucky ass schools that can sign over 20 kids because they dnt have to worry about scholarships being reduced by the NAZI party known as the NCAA!!
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | February 05, 2013 at 10:04 PM
Rumor has it that Brooks didn't have a committable offer and we didn't offer last minute like he thought we might, which is why he was "torn".
Just a rumor tho, not confirmed.

Baylor: fans go to games, new on campus stadium, fun offense.
Miami: Large yet lifeless stadium off campus, angry, demanding fanbase that ironically cant find the time to show up for games.
Pretty easy choice.

have you ever been to Waco? Baylor is not even #3 in football in texas, recent success is very suspicious IMO, still they got a Miami kid.
Posted by: USAFCane | February 05, 2013 at 10:12 PM
Guys were planning on taking a family trip to Miami in June... Hows the weather in that month? My girlfriend is scared that there will be no sun but alot of rain due to precipitation?
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | February 05, 2013 at 10:12 PM
blog is doom and gloom, last few weeks it had been up. I allowed myself to believe Canes had turned a corner.
Posted by: USAFCane | February 05, 2013 at 10:14 PM
It's funny no one has noticed that I left my surprise off the list of predictions... LOL
As I said before, he's no lock to commit, but U like him.

Baylor: ranked every once in a blue moon, frequently at the bottom of the big12, fun high school offense.
Miami: 5 national championships, gateway to the NFL (Fact, watch the Super Bowl!), Our city is our stadium (I'm sure tourists can tell you how fun Miami is!), It's always sunny on our side of the world, pro style offense that will get you ready in the NFL and we always have a chance to make it back in the national scene, heck we have a pretty fertile recruiting ground that will make sure the hurricanes will always be in the thick of things!

Well that sucked. Hate seeing is lose dts, with this roster. Oh well, I di wish the kid well. You couldn't have given me a big enough scholarship go go to Baylor. No drinking, no women in your room, can't even dance? No thanks. But to each his own.

USAF, it's the coach. Bridles is the real deal, and coupled with recruiting rg3 he got the ball rolling for the bears. I would not be surprised if UT tried to poach him when Mack brown steps down.
Posted by: Tonycane | February 05, 2013 at 10:23 PM
Of course you left the surprise off the list. If you didn't, it wouldn't be a surprise. Duuuuuh... Lol
Posted by: CoCane | February 05, 2013 at 10:41 PM
Why even mention him if he's no lock? So you won't have to say who it was if he don't commit... Sounds like some fukkery
Posted by: CoCane | February 05, 2013 at 10:43 PM
I'll tell U who it was regardless. Not trying to be shady

UPNORTH THE WEATHER DOWN HERE GOES LIKE THIS.. 1-2WEEKS OF WINTER 50"S. THE LOWEST.. 11MONTHS AND 2WEEKS OF BEAUTIFUL SUNSHINE AND IT CAN RAIN LIKE A MOFO AND THE DROP OF A DIME

Rion Brown going unconscious tonight, lol. The Pimp talking about losing focus being like texting and driving at the same time is another lol.
Football team recruiting, that's just a groan and an eye roll at this point.

Possible signee.
And I'll say tomorrow after he announces, no matter who he picks.

86, the football team seems to have, well, let's go to the guy who needs a lifetime extension from the AD whenever they get hired to explain it;
"The moment you get distracted, it's like driving your car and texting at the same time," coach Jim Larranaga said. "It's too easy to get into an accident."
See? Now maybe it's not as catchy a sound bite as 'getting Kirklanded' is, but it's more relevant to the issue at hand than coining a phrase that inaccurately encapsulates the mishandling of a PR blunder with a pipeline local school whose coach carries a lot of cache with the locals who look up to him.
Besides, I've yet to find an inflatable pool toy my big mouth can't open wide enough to ingest, so it's physically me impossible to go choke on them as far as I know. ;)

Collection of talent. Damn phone hit autocorrect and I didn't notice that it had. Missing the days when the kids didn't know what a computer was.

Canes reached out to LB Edward Williams tonight.
Don't read too much into this, it's similar to the Daryl Chestnut "inquiry"
