You are almost certainly going to be an incredible success story and can't wait for the huge crowds to embrace you, the national awards to surround you and the National Championships to fall into your lap. In fact you have heard that the Heisman Trophy is desperately waiting to be yours!
Stop the media hype machine and ask yourself one simple question: "Why is it that so many five star players wind up as an epic fail?" Well let me give you just some of the reasons that these talented players fail:
Academics: A, B, C, D...Uh, what comes after D? Some players never get accepted and others flame out quickly when it comes to the main reason they are in college in the first place: getting an advanced education. It usually goes like this: "Coach when you said I would actually have to go to class and study and pass a test I thought you were just kidding dawg! You see in high school the teachers, well you know, they just looked the other way and gave me the grade. And that kid I had take the SAT for me well he was cool with the $250 I gave him so I could make the millions later on."
Drugs: Puff, puff, pass. Too often too many college athletes get caught up in the sordid underworld of drug use. While alcohol, steroids, amphetamines, cocaine, pain killers and other prescription and over the counter drugs are often abused by young adults nothing takes the place of the king: marijuana. When you fall asleep in the drive through of a McDonald's not once but twice while waiting for your food then you know you got the buzz working for you. Or is it against you, I forget? Who cares, just...puff, puff, pass.
Sense of Entitlement: You were a total stud in high school. You rated five stars, fast cars, loose standards and faster and looser women and all that. You wore #1, you got preferential treatment everywhere you went in your home town. So you walk into the college head football coach's office after seeing the depth chart that was just released today and you say: "Uh, Coach there must be some mistake here, you see I am a starter at (Name your position). I wear #1, I am a five star stud and just what the hell is going on here?" The Head Coach says: "Son, sit down here and let's talk about your attitude and lack of commitment to the...as Johnny five star walks out, transfers and heads to Memphis or Marshall or some other school like that.
Coaching Changes: Bobby five star was recruited by Head Coach A to play position X in a spread offense or position Y a 4-3 defense. That all sounds well and good until Coach A gets fired in your second season and then Coach K comes in and decides that you should play position G in a pro-set offense or position Z in a 3-4 defense. Bobby five star realizes he is totally screwed, figuratively and literally and goes into a major sulk or just transfers.
Lost sense of Ego: When you were in high school in Louisiana you were the big man on campus (BMOC). Everybody knew you from the name on your jersey since you were in Pop Warner football. The high school chicks dug you, the guys wanted to be you and the adults all respected you. Then, you go to college. Nobody knows you. The chicks are like: "Who is this freaky guy with the crawfish?" and the fans are all saying: "Show me what you got home boy from the Bayou!"
I'm not gonna hold my breath on the Booker T kids, at the end of the day, all we canes fans would want are kids who'd like to be here and be hurricanes.

Posted by: raizecane | February 05, 2013 at 09:44 AM
Dumb if you ask me.
At max (though unlikely) one more bowl ban. Additionally lost of a few scollies a year. Once you are enrolled, NCAA will NOT kick you out, so how is it going to affect any of the players who are already on board. I even believe that the NCAA will allow the U to honor LOI on NSD even with a kid not started school yet. That would be punishing kids personally, randomly.

Collins said out of his own mouth. He wanted to be the featured back. He ain't want to compete or split carries. He wanted handed to him. He'd rather go to a team that most likely will get pounded in the SEC west. They're rebuilding at Arkansas. So he don't care about winning & upholding a south florida legacy. Joining a family that's on the rise with 20 returning starters. He said on his visit, he wanted to find out if he could see himself at UM. Based on his choice, he didn't see Duke as a brother or family. Just a roadblock to his fame. He just doesn't have the "U" mentallity. He's right where he's supposed to be. Away from our campus. That mindset is not needed or wanted in our "U" fam. PERIOD. Therefore. Fukk'em. Next...

Uncle Luke is sending out some racially charged tweets essentially accusing Shalala of not wanting to recruit "Miami kis". Essentially calling her a racist.
It looks to me like some of the locals are exacting a little racial reventge for Shannons firing.
Not surprising and totally predictable. Simply waiting for the moment. Soon to be followed up by calls for Goldens firing.
Wait for it.
-----------
Uncle Luke is so stupid, did he not follow last year's recruiting?
Posted by: Sean Spence is a Beast!!! | February 05, 2013 at 10:31 AM
Good thing Collins didn't pick Miami. AFTER THE NCAA SLAMS YOU WITH THE DEATH PENALTY THERE WILL BE NOTHING LEFT OF THE HURRICANE PROGRAM EXCEPT FOR IT BEING LEFT IN SHAMBLES. SHAMBLES, I SAY!
I can't begin to tell you guys how many times I saw that yesterday. Can all the Miami haters jump off the death penalty bandwagon? I mean, clearly, not gonna happen.
Then again, I think that's what it said. Half of the people that typed it couldn't spell.
I'M GONNA GIVE YOU A SPELLING LESSON, Y'ALL.

All this new hype stuff ..anouncing on tv ... getting your 3 mins of fame is all fleeting. What matters is your home town and since Miami is where the best football is played I ...its not suprising that we get players from all over the country. This is what the U has built as a dynasty and we need to teach the new players coming up that these other little country towns dont give a hoot about Miami players. Weve got to get through this fog. Winning will solve everything.

I had to unfollow Luke a couple months ago..just couldn't take it. First, he is suppose to be a Miami fan, but has become their biggest hater. Second, he is a Golden hater, all while praising Shannon and third he turns everything into a racial issue. You mix that in with how stupid he sounds (my 4yo niece write better) its hard to listen to.
What is scary is that he is on the coaching staff of a major pipeline school. Thankfully it hasnt effected us this year with Burns, but you never know about down the road.
Posted by: UMike | February 05, 2013 at 11:06 AM
I said it before...if it were up to Luke, Miami would sign every kid in Dade county, no matter what. We need quality OL..who cares sign 4 Dade County RB's....but we need some TE help...who cares sign 8 Dade County WR's...he is so dumb
Posted by: UMike | February 05, 2013 at 11:07 AM
Reuben Foster is so dumb..kid gets an Auburn tattoo then commits to Alabama lol..IDK about these kids...or parents

The recruiting game isn't cheap, though at the University of Alabama spending on recruiting expenses was down in 2011-12. Still, $930,997 spent on football again exceeded what Alabama paid to recruit all of its athletes only five years earlier ($857,670) in the final season before Nick Saban arrived. ... Football accounted for 52 percent of all of Alabama's recruiting expenses last year, down from 56 percent in 2010-11. ... Auburn spent $950,378 on football recruiting in 2010-11, accounting for 45 percent of the athletics department's recruiting expenses. Alabama and Auburn were No. 2 and 3, respectively, in football recruiting costs among public schools in 2010-11, behind Tennessee ($1.5 million), according to a 2012 article by ESPN.com.

Shannon was talking loyalty when he was here like the old Canes. Now since he is in another program that loyalty doesnt matter? You know all this racial stuff doesnt make you any better. If you want a black coach to succeed in Miami what are you gonna call your home team if you want to be the first black coach to get that ring? Get in the place you love and become that coach.
Posted by: mi@mic@ne | February 05, 2013 at 11:16 AM
I don't get too bent on these HS kids thinking they are all that before even putting on the pads one time on the practice field.
I did see Collins play in the All- Star game & in all honesty, he wasn't that impressive to me. Certainly not a "must get" & compared to Duke, a third stringer. No disrespect, but he was waaay low on the priority list.
To me, if the U wants to be THE team for pruducing RB's, it needs to bring in Sol in some capacity. Ask any former Cane RB who played under him & each will tell you they were coached up on ALL aspects of the position.
Anyway, time will tell how AC does in Hogville, but Beilema isn't known for getting backs to the league. OL & DL, no doubt, but it's the RB's who are the benefactors.
BTW, don't forget Jimmy Johnson is a Hog alum - maybe AC should have consulted JJ before making his decision. Just sayin'.
Oh, & if any coach or player wants to play the race card on this one, you've got to be kidding. Let's see, Beilema from Snow White Wisconsin going to Hogville - Sure, that's where AC will feel right at home. Good luck, homeboy. - just don't be planning any trips to NYC in early Jan while wearing red/white!

UMike...Its funny and sad at the same time. This whole thing tomorrow is really trending the wrong way. What is Golden going to say for an hour and a half on ESPN if he has no recruits to talk about?
Posted by: Schweaty Balls | February 05, 2013 at 11:46 AM
Schweaty..if I looked correctly, we only have 1 recruit that will be announcing while Golden is on air. I am thinking only Grace will have committed by the time Golden is on, and that isnt even a sure thing with Louisville closing hard.
Posted by: UMike | February 05, 2013 at 11:49 AM
Troll ain't tellin' no lie though haha I'm just gonna get this off my mind.
We're looking at Jermaine Grace, Michael Parker, maybe Gus Edwards, maybe Jay-nard Bostwick and possibly Denver Kirkland. Other than that, Thomas? Highly doubtful. Coley? Less doubtful, but John Franklin may have hinted about Coley being his roommate yesterday on the FSS show.
Statement/Question: Jordan Cunningham- Probably Vandy or Stanford, but Miami hat still on the table. I heard he is waiting for a commitable Canes offer? After missing on Collins, did Golden hook him up? Sounds to me like Cunningham is holding out for the Canes.
And in the words of a State of The U contributor: Bryant? Who the hell knows.
Posted by: kenyon19ypr | February 05, 2013 at 11:51 AM
FWIW..I just read on another board that Kirland doesn't think he has a legit offer and has not received any paperwork.
Posted by: UMike | February 05, 2013 at 11:53 AM
Jermaine Grace-- Wednesday, Feb 6th, 2PM ESPN
Denver Kirkland-- Wednesday, Feb 6th, 9:20AM, ESPN
Matthew Thomas-- Wednesday, Feb 6th, 9:15AM, ESPN
Jaynard Bostwick-- Wednesday, Feb 6th, 8AM
Keith Bryant-- Wednesday, Feb 6th, 1:30PM, ESPNU
Rashard Robinson-- Wednesday, Feb 6th, 9AM
Stacy Coley-- Wednesday, Feb 6th, 11:05AM, ESPNU
Posted by: UMike | February 05, 2013 at 11:54 AM
So Kirkland, Thomas, Bostwick, and Robinson will all announce before Golden goes on air..I do not think we get any of those guys. Coley to account while Golden is on air.
Posted by: UMike | February 05, 2013 at 11:55 AM
UMike...We will know about Thomas, Coley and Kirkland and Grace before and when Golden goes on the air.
And anyone can say what they want about Alabama, but those guys get who they want. They are the gold standard for recruiting. I mean 3 out of the last 4, there is a reason.
Posted by: Schweaty Balls | February 05, 2013 at 11:56 AM

Of all the remaining targets (that we know of), I only think we get Edwards and Grace.
Posted by: UMike | February 05, 2013 at 11:59 AM

Uhhh, ok.

I forget, do we have a decent RB for next year?
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | February 05, 2013 at 12:01 PM
I truely hope I'm wrong..but...
Kirkland - FSU
This whole situation has been crazy. I thought that since he went through all this trouble just to make sure he had an offer meant he really wanted to go to Miami, but I am still not sure Miami wants him.
Thomas - FSU
According to BTW coaches he has been a FSU lean and didn't even want to speak to coaches. Add in the whole Kirland/Ice/Luke crap, he is gone.
Bostick - Florida.
They came in late and the power shifted.
Grace - Miami
Even with a late push from Louisville, his bond with Lewis and Howard win out.
Edwards - Miami
Lets be honest, this kid is lucky to have an offer lol..with Collins out and us having the last visit, I say he picks Miami.
Coley - Miami
I hear he tried to commit early in the process but UM didn't take it for whatever reason, but Miami coaches cam eon strong late. Add in the addition of Coley to the staff and it brings Coley to Miami
Brooks - Baylor

How ironic would that be, we cannot lock down our own guys down the street but we can lock up a top guy from AL.
