You are almost certainly going to be an incredible success story and can't wait for the huge crowds to embrace you, the national awards to surround you and the National Championships to fall into your lap. In fact you have heard that the Heisman Trophy is desperately waiting to be yours!
Stop the media hype machine and ask yourself one simple question: "Why is it that so many five star players wind up as an epic fail?" Well let me give you just some of the reasons that these talented players fail:
Academics: A, B, C, D...Uh, what comes after D? Some players never get accepted and others flame out quickly when it comes to the main reason they are in college in the first place: getting an advanced education. It usually goes like this: "Coach when you said I would actually have to go to class and study and pass a test I thought you were just kidding dawg! You see in high school the teachers, well you know, they just looked the other way and gave me the grade. And that kid I had take the SAT for me well he was cool with the $250 I gave him so I could make the millions later on."
Drugs: Puff, puff, pass. Too often too many college athletes get caught up in the sordid underworld of drug use. While alcohol, steroids, amphetamines, cocaine, pain killers and other prescription and over the counter drugs are often abused by young adults nothing takes the place of the king: marijuana. When you fall asleep in the drive through of a McDonald's not once but twice while waiting for your food then you know you got the buzz working for you. Or is it against you, I forget? Who cares, just...puff, puff, pass.
Sense of Entitlement: You were a total stud in high school. You rated five stars, fast cars, loose standards and faster and looser women and all that. You wore #1, you got preferential treatment everywhere you went in your home town. So you walk into the college head football coach's office after seeing the depth chart that was just released today and you say: "Uh, Coach there must be some mistake here, you see I am a starter at (Name your position). I wear #1, I am a five star stud and just what the hell is going on here?" The Head Coach says: "Son, sit down here and let's talk about your attitude and lack of commitment to the...as Johnny five star walks out, transfers and heads to Memphis or Marshall or some other school like that.
Coaching Changes: Bobby five star was recruited by Head Coach A to play position X in a spread offense or position Y a 4-3 defense. That all sounds well and good until Coach A gets fired in your second season and then Coach K comes in and decides that you should play position G in a pro-set offense or position Z in a 3-4 defense. Bobby five star realizes he is totally screwed, figuratively and literally and goes into a major sulk or just transfers.
Lost sense of Ego: When you were in high school in Louisiana you were the big man on campus (BMOC). Everybody knew you from the name on your jersey since you were in Pop Warner football. The high school chicks dug you, the guys wanted to be you and the adults all respected you. Then, you go to college. Nobody knows you. The chicks are like: "Who is this freaky guy with the crawfish?" and the fans are all saying: "Show me what you got home boy from the Bayou!"

I bet Danny Dillard's not upset with ac's decision. Time to step up big guy. I can't wait until this NCAA crap is over , which will likely be the day after signing day. Those shady bastards know what they're doin and how it effects our recruiting. Hope we have a better day on Wednesday.

Uncle Luke is sending out some racially charged tweets essentially accusing Shalala of not wanting to recruit "Miami kis". Essentially calling her a racist.
It looks to me like some of the locals are exacting a little racial reventge for Shannons firing.
Not surprising and totally predictable. Simply waiting for the moment. Soon to be followed up by calls for Goldens firing.
Wait for it.
Posted by: Reggie | February 05, 2013 at 02:01 AM
Remember, with Shannon now with ARK I think the locals with the egging of Luke would love nothing more than to see Shannon vidicated as being "able to recruit" with kids going his way and Golden not so effective.
No doubt it's happening.

Yea Shannon recruited a ton of talent (said no one ever) We have more impact kids from Goldens first two years than we did under Shannon period. Luke, just like everyone else in the world, has his own "agenda"
Posted by: vfly13 | February 05, 2013 at 07:32 AM
home team,
let's not get fixated on randy and luke. they will both always be a a part of the hurricane family-- but right now we should only be concerned and focused on the "nuclear family" and those who will be joining us this week.
stay positive family. for right now it is "usagainsttheworld"-- and the world will soon be sorry!

I am excited about this class!
Coach go get the 3 and 4 stars who bleed orange and green,
ie Perryman, M Lewis, E Johnson and Bush!!!!!!!!!!!! 5 stars need not apply, unless you are a DUKE! lol. Shannons 5 stars not so GOOD!!
Good luck to Alex Collins
CANES B BALL LEGIT TOP 10, UNREAL!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Jack | February 05, 2013 at 07:56 AM
Also, please remember that we are a little full at tailback. Duke, Clements, Dallas, and Dillard are all back there. Furthermore, he'd have to compete with Sony Michel in 2014.
Collins was a notable loss, but not a killer.
* This team needs a tangible threat at tight end (check, see Dobard/Sandland).
* This team needs defensive help, and lots of it (see AQM/Burns/Carter).
* This team needed a QB (Olsen).
UM needs at least one of the Bostwick/Keef combo to commit (or another defensive tackle or similar upside). Thomas is also extremely important.
It's not over yet, folks. Perspective. However, if UM whiffs on them all... then it's time to start asking questions.
Posted by: LB | February 05, 2013 at 07:56 AM
Amazing how many people blast an 18yo kid for his decision just because he didn't choose their school lol..So if he came to Miami he would be all world, but since he is going to Arkansas he will surely transfer? lol
Posted by: UMike | February 05, 2013 at 08:37 AM
With Alex Collins announcing Monday night that he's committing to Arkansas, UM badly needs Staten Island-based running back Augustus Edwards to choose the Hurricanes over FSU.
A few Canes reacted on Twitter to Collins choosing the Razorbacks over UM, UF and Wisconsin:
"Wow, man, really thought he was coming here - it could of been something special with him and Duke [Johnson]," Anthony Chickillo tweeted.
"That sucks - oh well," Deon Bush said. "No worries: We got Duke."
Then there was this amusing reaction from running back Dallas Crawford, who has a chance to play more than he did if Collins signed here: "So in other news, LeBron went 13 for 14 tonight."

To what end? Golden gets fired and Shannon is restored as HC? When has that ever happened at a major program? And how long will the vendetta last for? 1 year? 5 years? Forever?
Posted by: TonyCane | February 05, 2013 at 09:06 AM
It does really suck when you have Crawford, Clements, and Dillard...and your own teammates are Tweeting about how good Collins could be playing with Duke. Im sure thats a great chemistry builder lol
Posted by: UMike | February 05, 2013 at 09:07 AM
You can't get wrapped up in the logic or lack thereof in a 17 year old. Some do their homework, some don't.
Here's Michael McAdoo of the Ravens telling the NYTimes that he never bothered to check whether North Carolina had the major he wanted before committing
"He told his recruiters he wanted to major in criminal justice.
Once he got on campus, however, he was quickly informed by his academic counselors that North Carolina didn’t have a criminal justice major. According to McAdoo, his counselor picked his major, African-American studies, because it wouldn’t interfere with football practice."
For all we know, beyond football, Alex Collins wants to be a hog farmer. The business connections he will make in Little Rock will be invaluable. He will derive far greater economic benefit there than he would ever acquire at the U.
And don't forget Walmart is based in Bentonville.
Face it. By committing to Arkansas, Collins will be set for life.
Posted by: Old Skool | February 05, 2013 at 09:15 AM
Collins has the opportunity to get a degree from a major University. has the opportunity to play in a run heavy offense and perhaps get a shot at the NFL. I for one will be rooting for the kid, its not every day kids from rough South Florida ares get those type of opportunities.

And has anyone seen Fayettville, AR? Talk about the armpit of America. As much as I talk up Oxford, MS and Ole Miss, Fayetteville is the exact opposite.

IMHO
Not knowing the offensive philosophy with the new O coordinator lead Collins to Clinton country
Posted by: Sinistercane | February 05, 2013 at 09:33 AM
Collins picking Arkansas is exactly why I don't get worked up over recruiting. Sitting on pins and needles waiting for a kid to make his choice is something I elect not to do.
I said it a while back, I won't sweat it until they all sign and even then you have to wait 2 - 3 years to see how you faired.
Personally, I don't blame the kid. if my school was about to face sanctions, I would have no problem looking elswhere.
