Six practices into their spring practice schedule, the Miami Hurricanes will host the first of their three spring scrimmages Saturday. The Canes’ first spring scrimmage will be held at Miami’s Traz-Powell Stadium at 10 a.m.
The Canes will then have four more practices before their second spring scrimmage of 2013 – an April 5 trip to Naples High School in Naples, Fla. (7 p.m. start). Miami’s annual Spring Game will conclude spring practice April 13 at Sun Life Stadium (3 p.m.).
Admission to all three spring scrimmages is free and open to the public.
Head coach Al Golden and his Hurricanes squad opened their spring practice slate March 2, holding four practices before Spring Break.
Per NCAA rules, NCAA Division I football programs may conduct a spring practice segment in which a maximum of 15 practice sessions may occur.
The segment must be conducted over a span of 34 consecutive days, excluding institutional vacation periods and exam days.

Canes rolling. Pacific shooting like 15% is def helping, but I like how they look so far.

29-13 Canes. A little over 3 mins left in 1st half.

Thought the knock on UM was, 'haven't done it yet as a group, little depth?'
Looks like the reserves decided to hold down the turbo button all game today just like the starters. This is what champions do in the fist half of their openers, step on the throat and don't let up, take notes overrated #1 team from Washington.

U shooting over 45& from the 3 and 41% from the floor

"No, they have basketball experience, that's more important."
LMFAO! Who wants my leftover collection of post-game-loss-presser-Al-Golden-bingo cards? I'm not playing that lame game anymore in my lifetime. Remember, can't win without, "We all have to get better, players, coaches, staff."

Miami 40 Pacific 19 at the half
I like what I'm seeing. They're playing with a calm intensity. Every player that's got in has scored. We're taking care of business & playing like contenders...
Posted by: CoCane | March 22, 2013 at 03:07 PM
The starters just need to break this press coming up in the 2nd half a few times for some easy baskets then get a few stops and then they can start leaning on the clock.

Tigers getting neutered. U shooting over 50% from beyond the arc
Posted by: Old Skool | March 22, 2013 at 03:41 PM
Miami 59, Pacific 29 with 11:30 left.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | March 22, 2013 at 03:45 PM
If Durand shoots like this from behind the arc for five more games, get some space ready in the trophy case, no doorstops with this one. Reggie looks like he's getting back to his early season form which is a scary piece of news for the rest of this region.

Gamble's photo bomb gimmick is only going to remain amusing if they win the title, otherwise it'll retroactively become infuriating.
Here's to five more hilarious ones Julian.

Well my bracket is toast but my final 4 teams are all still alive! The canes looked great today in a game that they were suppose to look great in.
Louisville was the only other team in my Final Four that dominated like Miami. I have Miami beating Louisville in the final.
Go 'canes!!

Great game by the 'Canes hoops terms. They got first game jitters out of the way... Now they have some post season experience. I am hoping they are starting to click on all cylinders like in January early February.
Shane if you are reading, Great game! Keep it up!

Jekiri and Swoope looked good out there today. And if Larkin keeps being aggressive, and we keep knockin' down those 3s, we're gonna be hard to stop.
GO CANES!

Good work by the hoopsters today. Looking like a 1 seed.

Bring on Illinois! (up by 16 at halftime)
Posted by: VfB_Cane | March 22, 2013 at 05:51 PM
Wow -- Illinois totally falling apart. Colorado now with a 5-point lead with 9:27 left.
Posted by: VfB_Cane | March 22, 2013 at 06:27 PM
Canes will dismantle either the buffs or illini. Both teams lack offensive flow, and neither plays D. It will be a route.
Posted by: BEERicane | March 22, 2013 at 06:36 PM
Ever since Johnson hurt his finger and Gamble stepped his game up to spark that win streak, UM has been a team that can only allow the opposition to beat them by beating themselves, either by poor defensive effort or a cold shooting night collectively as a team. Other than that they can play whatever kind of game you want and beat you at it.
Illinois will have to find a way to match the paint scoring and limit offensive rebounds to have a chance, although their guards will be able to make the game difficult if they can get off to a fast shooting start Sunday.
I picked Colorado to win in both my brackets though.

Big Reggie finally showed up. This was his best game in a month. 7 pts 10 rebs. I hope he keeps it up. Nice warm up game for Illinois. They play just like Pacific but are better at doing it. If we bring the intensity, we'll win convincingly...
Posted by: CoCane | March 22, 2013 at 07:02 PM
Predicatbly enough, Illinois holds Colorado to 5 points the rest of the way.
I agree with BEER, their offense should not be a problem if the Canes come out ready to play on Sunday.
Posted by: VfB_Cane | March 22, 2013 at 07:05 PM
Predictably, teams pad the player's heights in b-ball. Heck, I was 6'6" in high school at the state tournament and 6'-7" in college.I finally requested the PR people to list me at 6'-3" in the program my junior year. Point being. They are probably shorter than listed.
P.S. I'm 6'3.5".

If we at least shoot a decent percentage from 3 land.
Posted by: CaneRock | March 22, 2013 at 07:37 PM
That doesn't matter as much as the defensive effort IMO. If they shoot a poor 3 point percentage and play great defense they'll win more games than if vice versa.

In other news ...
That guideline should really go without saying, but former New England Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson stepped all over it when he recently said on his Houston radio show that current Patriots lineman Vince Wilfork had the ugliest wife in the NFL.
“You know what, I’ve got it,” Johnson said on CBS Houston when a caller asked him to identify the player with the least attractive wife. “And this is a big, big man. This guy had his way with the Texans this year. He won’t hear this — Vince Wilfork.”
Thing was, there was no way Wilfork — who played on the 2004 New England team with Johnson — wasn't going to hear that awful response in this age of sports blogs and Twitter.
And once he did, let's just say that Johnson was lucky Wilfork didn't book the next flight to Houston to teach him a thing or two about respect. (Would anyone here have blamed him if Wilfork forcibly fed Johnson his microphone?)
Wilfork instead took to Twitter to point out just how wrong Johnson was:
It really is a shame that Wilfork was put in this position. Bianca Wilfork has always been very public with her support of her husband and the couple runs The Vince Wilfork Foundation, which raises money for diabetes research. She may not fit society's traditional definition of beautiful but she's clearly beautiful to the only person whose opinion matters — Vince Wilfork.
After seeing Wilfork's angry tweet, Johnson took to Twitter and tried to apologize. it was much too late. His original comment was despicable and there's not enough sorries in the world to make up for what he said
Posted by: Old Skool | March 22, 2013 at 08:09 PM
So basically, Vince doesn't have to worry about that ex teammate breaking his fidelity vow they gave each other with his wife. Any word what Vince's wife thinks of Ted's ream antler spray enhanced forehead?

So if a woman is pretty & you say she's pretty that's ok. But, if a woman is ugly & you say she's ugly, that's bad...
I thought honesty was the best policy. (shruggs)
