New blog is up

86Cane

OK, most of the bloggers are weak, and I am fed up with it...

WWIN

we give up too many lay ups!!!

JCane

I'm an old hoops player and junkie from way back. I call it like I see it, even if others see differently, and I can't apologize for not seeing the Canes as playing a great game today. That being said, it was a great win, and they played solid D and didn't fold whenever an NCState run was made. Along with the fact that there doesn't seem to be a true dominant great team out there, I see at least 10-12 teams that could potentially win the NCAA tnmt.

As for the meaning of tomorrow's game, it moves up incrementally if Louisville loses. KU already won their game easily, and likely moves into the top 4 with the win. Syracuse was taking it to Louisville early, but the Cards are playing better in the second half and have narrowed the 14 pt. halftime deficit to a 6 point deficit with just under 12 min. left in the game. For tonight, I'm a Syracuse fan.

Obviously none of it matters with a loss tomorrow, as the U likely becomes a bubble 2 and more likely a 3 at best then. However, with a win and a move to a #1 seed, it just adds more to the luster of this suddenly now improving reputation hoops program under coach L, even without a Final 4 appearance (but it would help so much more to have one obviously). Beating the storied UNC program AND winning the ACC tnmt AND getting a potential #1 seed would all be huge, way more than many of us realize.

Now, as to odds of winning the NCAA tnmt, it all depends on how the team plays and which teams are hot at the right time. Whether the U gets a desired bracket in the eastern half of the country or with better draws, who the f knows. Just gotta play who's up and take 'em down. As long as they don't draw Indiana State or FGCU, huh?

orange 'n green in the vein

Coke, two games, two double digit wins. What's that saying about a gift horse again?

He came up big on the boards today to compensate and that offensive rebound/great find for the Gamble dunk was the last coffin nail for all intents and purposes so let's just hope he decides to pull out the drive game Sunday.

Terrance Sullivan

Great win for our Canes today.

CoCane

Kadji can't keep playing the way he has been the last 2 games for us to go deep into the Big Dance. No one can stop him when he attacks the rim but he insists on shooting more from the perimeter instead of 5 feet from the rim. I don't understand why Larranaga is allowing this to continue...

AfriCane

Offensive incompetency in the KSU vs KU game.

orange 'n green in the vein

/\/\/\

The only reason not to want the #1 seed as a UM fan is if you think the season would be a failure if they didn't reach the round of four after getting tabbed with it.

Personally I wouldn't but I could see why some might, although why they would want to at this point in the season is probably directly related to their want to ignore the fact that The Pimp is turning up the temperature on MAC man with every win.

Sunday is going to be absolute hell, if UM only has to play 5-on-6 and the bigs dominate the small lineup UNC is using, they can pull it out in anything but a neutral court. Of course, this is against one of the bluest of blood programs so don't hold your breath on that being even near the case UM basketball fans.

Either Gamble is going to have to bring his A offensive game or Reggie is going to have to bring his A defensive game. If they both show up sporting those it won't be close.

AfriCane

No matter the sport, we r the U. They hate Us. We thrive on hate. Lets go out and destroy everyone; any sport....

CoCane

I don't care if we get a 1 seed even if we win the ACC tourny. I want this team to feel disrespected. They play hungrier & better that way. Come on 2 seed! ;-)

86Cane

Go Canes!

From Disney...

AfriCane

Your hypocrisy on this blog is funny. U always talk about the negativity of other blogs but yet u find nothing but fault with a game we always had under control against NC state? I guess state been incompetent had nothing to do with our defense? Outside of Reggie, no other players deserved criticism in the game. U guys r something else....

86Cane

GO CANES!

FROM DISNEY...

Canesfan_1

It's all jibber jabber. Right now the U should be seeded a #1, or at least above Duke. Similar records, split series, a blowout in our place, a 1-point loss in theirs, they get bounced in the first game of the ACC, 0-1, we're 2-0

In what universe is Duke seeded above us now, if we win tomorrow, then it would be an outright travesty.

JCane

I see the U's best shot for a #1 seed being with a Louisville (vs. Syracuse) or KU (vs. KSU) loss tonight, along with a win tomorrow against the likely opponent of UNC. I just don't see the U not jumping over Duke with an ACC championship. It would truly defeat the point of having the conference tnmt. if the regular season 1 wins it and still is seeded behind another same conference team. The likelihood is the U is gunning for a 3rd or likely 4th #1 seed if one of those teams above loses, with the question mark to me being where IU ends up (making the possibility of the 3rd #1 slot open if they drop).

JCane

The real question would be why is Duke assumed an automatic #1 in the NCAA after the loss to the Terps IF the U wins the ACC championship. It would sound crazy for me to see the 2nd place team in the regular season ACC and loser in an ACC tnmt qtrfinal be seeded higher than the regular season and (IF) ACC tnmt. champion, especially with both having been AP top 10 going into the ACC tnmt. We shall see. I guess step one is win tomorrow and then worry about it.

Sloppy game today, and without killer instinct. Luckily for the U Scott was on fire, NCSU missed a boatload of FTs and the U didn't fold every time NCSU made a run. Still, a nice win (although I have to admit the last two minutes of the first half made me want to vomit!).

IU goes down today. Lots of teams in the top 9 have lost the last few days.

orange 'n green in the vein

Coke, I'm shocked you didn't put WWiN on blast for the Irkday Omparisoncay to Kenny today.

LOL!

At least you were polite in asking him to call off the honeymoon with the mutant from Philly though, I had to stifle my welling keyboard outrage out of my respect for him as a fellow entertaining blogger.

CoCane

Willie,

You can't be serious. The hoops team is top 20 in every defensive category. Quit defending No'D garbage azz until his unit actually produces. Please...

WWIN

LMAO.

You still my boy tho

orange 'n green in the vein

I launder his cash that he makes from his stable WWiN.

His interviews are classic, like hilariously classic. "He's like Star Trek."

Better than every game of post-loss-presser-Al-Golden-bingo ever!

WWIN

OGV,

Da pimps D is no better than d'no's! How is Scott wide open after he's been burying 3's? And how does Ryan Kelly miss 13 straight game and score a career high on us his first game back?????

What really takes the cake its we have the OLDEST team in college and prolly older than some nba teams lol.

Jus face it OGV, you have a thing for Coach L, or are you in his stable???? LMAO

Jack

"chances"

The Dude

Next stop? ACC CG!

Jack

I like our changes to tomorrow! :)

orange 'n green in the vein

UMD is about to get so run out by the refs it's not funny.

Canesteeler

Yes

orange 'n green in the vein

Jones, Larkin, Scott and Brown need to be strong with the possession.

orange 'n green in the vein

So now the BS offensive call on Scott means he's in danger of fouling out when they whistle yet another touch call. Still won't be enough to defeat the BEST TEAM IN THE ACC! LMFAO!

Fire D'No.

Jack

Yo OGV -

Its O V E R!!!!!!!!!

Jack

Canes took over and never looked back! Nice win canes!!!!

orange 'n green in the vein

They're both living up to the boast the color of their shoes are making on their behalf tonight Cs.

Still think that Kadji is going to have to hit a few down the back-stretch this time to shunt off one more NCST push.

Jack

Let's go Canes finish strong!!

Canesteeler

Ohio cane we need Larkin and Scott to bring it home. Keep playing aggressively and take it to the hole.

orange 'n green in the vein

BEER, he's the 2nd leading scorer. No shot at 'dummy' and his 30 tonight? Getting sentimental on us in your old age?

Ohio_Cane

Thank god for Durand Scott today...

BEERicane

Hello, Larkin? Where are you?!

WWIN

Coke,

Kadji thinks he's Dirk, minus the post game

Canesteeler

Going to come down to the end once again and that gives the officials an opportunity to show their true colors!

Canesteeler

cC he plays soft.

CoCane

Kadji thinks he's a small forward. Smh

WWIN

You actually think Coach L has been making good decisions today?

The reality of this game is this, Scott playing the best game of his life. Without that totally different game

orange 'n green in the vein

WWiN, the difference in the basketball and football team's competence is hilarious.

Wait, it's actually not. Infuriating is the word I was looking for.

orange 'n green in the vein

Reggie needs to stop doing his wack Cena impersonation and upgrade to his inner Hulkamaniac, or at the very least a decent impersonation of The Rock, for the second half then continue that for the rest of the season.

The Dude

New policy, anyone who passes the ball to DoughBoy is equally responsible for the TO.

Posted by: BEERicane | March 16, 2013 at 02:20 PM

Ha ha

WWIN

OGV,

Yo difference of opinion in the football team and basketball team is hilarious. If this was AG coaching you wouldn't be saying that lol.

The Dude

The lady announcer sounds like she is using a fake voice.

BEERicane

DoughBoy the human turnover out in full force again today. New policy, anyone who passes the ball to DoughBoy is equally responsible for the TO. Oh, and Coach L should be held responsible for putting his fat arse in there to begin with. He is less than worthless.

The Dude

Sweet my post wasnt ate.

The Dude

Lets clarify something for ESPN: Miami HAS a big lead. I know they are trying to sing the praises of NCST by saying Miami HAD a big lead. Weve been beating on them the whole time and will continue to.

orange 'n green in the vein

Dick looked so depressed when they showed him court-side today, I couldn't help by LMAO at his sadness at not getting to verbally service his beloved K.

I think only Swafford hates UMD more today.

orange 'n green in the vein

WWiN, he's getting hacked every time he holds the ball and no call is made, I agree he needs to be stronger with the ball in his hands but with the officiating in the game today, there's not too much I can really get pissy at him for. He's played pretty good on the defensive end except for the getting caught unaware for the first NCST bucket.

The Pimp obviously had his team ready today, just hope he makes them keep their foot on the gas and they can run these guys out of the gym by a wide margin.

WWIN

I can take Vitale, as long as its not a Duke or unc game

WWIN

OGV,

We'll blow em out as soon as Big Reggie is on the bench!

orange 'n green in the vein

Would you prefer her or Vitale?

You're right, mute them both and stream WQAM instead even if they're seven seconds behind.

orange 'n green in the vein

Anytime they want to call this game even UM will be happy to blow this team out. Thus the officiating.

WWIN

^^^^^^
She always bugs me

CoCane

Good point OGV

Canesteeler

The female announcer is bugging me

orange 'n green in the vein

I think every foul on UM has been a touch foul to this point while NCST gets the whistled swallowed every single possession. Unbelievable until you consider what team will draw more attendance in the final between the two, then it all makes sense.

CoCane

Reggie & Kadji are playing like they're scared to bang in the paint. Leslie has 2 fouls & we're letting him off the hook by not going at him. Smh

orange 'n green in the vein

UM is playing only 5-7 today.

It's an improvement.

WWIN

WWiN, these guys grew up with NBA Jam as their go to arcade basketball game, it's the 'turbo' shoes look.

Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | March 16, 2013 at 01:30 PM

I could understand all orange but not all yellow

CoCane

Why won't Kadji get his big azz down low & get Leslie a 3rd foul instead of jacking up 3's??? Attack the beast where it's wounded! DUUUUUUUH!

orange 'n green in the vein

NCST looks like they're ready to go home and rest while watching the selection show as a team together right now.

Getting some tertiary scoring going with Kadji to augment Larkin and Scott should be the final piece of the offensive puzzle today.

Canesteeler

Willie I don't know the answer to that other than pimp wishing and hoping for Reggie to respond. I would rather see the 7 ft freshman getting more time than Reggie.

WWIN

Why was Reggie Johnson put in the game? What did Gamble do wrong, make somebody foul him?

orange 'n green in the vein

Refs letting NCST play through every defensive bump right now but UM isn't flinching today. You can see The Pimp wrestling with whether he should turn this game into a street fight or try to press the pace with his team right now. I actually think the street fight option might be their best right now, walk it up and grind the clock every possession.

WWiN, these guys grew up with NBA Jam as their go to arcade basketball game, it's the 'turbo' shoes look.

WWIN

What's up wit these yellow shoes???????

CoCane

WTF IS WRONG WITH REGGIE JOHNSON???!!!

Canesteeler

Get Reggie's ass out!

orange 'n green in the vein

NCST looks TIRED today.

DeeCane

Dee...I have your 411 and I'll ship yours on Monday.

KiriJax

Set my alarm for 1:30am and still woke up before it went off. I'm psyched and ready for this game! Beat NC State. no better opportunity than this year. Take it Canes!

Canesfan_1

Plenty for the canes to play for against NC State today other than tournament seeding in a couple of weeks.

How about revenge for lack of respect from the NC State coaching staff. Remember assistant coach Bobby Lutz giving the choke sign to Miami players with state up 5 and about 1:47 to go. We won that game, but I just hope the players remember that classless disrespect

I thought I was real slick, until I got blocked

Where da fake gaturd info be?

IraqiCane

Yeah Maryland.

CaneRock

IF! we win, who would ya'll rather play, UNC, or Maryland?

I say UNC, because UMD has some hella LENGTH down low. On the other hand, Roy Williams has UNC in tourney mode.

CaneRock

If the Canes can get Reggie to play with energy like yesterday, Gamble to stay out of foul trouble early, Larkin to attack with a killer instinct, and not take contested 3's 5-10 seconds into the shot clock, we will clobber NC ST.

If none of that happens, we're gonna lose today

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | March 16, 2013 at 09:16 AM

Agree with EVERYthing, especially the part about Reggie playing with energy.
Something else that we have going for us, that hasn't been mentioned, is we're HEALTHY! 100% HEALTHY!
I don't think we could've said that last year at this point.

CaneRock

86, as much as I can when watching a 19 month old lol

SHEEZ!
19 MONTHS ALREADY!
MAN! I'm gettin' old!

orange 'n green in the vein

/\/\/\

I can't speak for the rest of you but personally I feel good, UM needs to quicken the pace as much as they can and hope to wear down NCST in the 2nd half today, make them feel like they're playing the third game in three days. This is about as un-neutral a neutral sight game as you'll ever find so handling the crowd noise and getting full mileage out of every foul called against them is going to be very important but I actually like the individual match-ups for Miami today and think they can get inside for easy buckets as NCST has nobody who can post defend Johnson and keep him from taking as much paint real estate as he wants any given possession.

Regardless of the final score today, this is going to be a great opportunity for UM to get a preview of the kind of atmosphere their NCAA games are going to be like as long as they're still in the bracket this year and you just know The Pimp's going to throw something at the NCST they didn't see from UM last time they played.

IraqiCane

How do we feel about the game today?

CGNC

Canes hoops need to play alot better today against NC State who is playing better basketball coming into this thing

Happy Saturday Party People

I'm one of the ones you owe 86cane...lol...this NC State game is gonna be a true test..I think of we get big Reg involved quickly n Gamble on the defensive end, and we should be ok..our Bugs will be the key what I think

Mia Chi 'Cane '98

CoCane,

Miami needed a put back by the invisible Reggie Johnson to beat NCST. And that was before Miami was down by 5 with over a minute left. I do not like the history of this matchup. I just feel like NCST will beat the 'Canes by 8 points. I hope I am wrong and they buck the trend.

The announcers in today's game made an interesting comment how Miami should be looking forward to playing a team outside the ACC in the big dance. Everyone in the conference has tape of every team and they know tendenances of players.

CaneRock

If Gamble holds Leslie down, we should be alright. That's ASSUMING!, they put Gamble on Leslie...

CaneRock

Instead it was pass around the top of the perimeter and jack up the somewhat contested three instead of working hard to get the zone shrunk toward the paint and shooting the uncontested one.

Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | March 15, 2013 at 10:33 PM

Yeah, I noticed Georgetown was doing that against Syracuse. My theory with the zone, is to attack it first, and take it from there. Because if somebody goes to the basket, somebody has to stop em'...and that's man to man.

CoCane

MCC 98,

You do know we beat NC State at their house this year right? I feel you though. They're playing better ball then us right now. If we don't focus tomorrow, we could get beat down...

KiriJax

It was a really good effort by the men's tennis team today. They fought down to the last tiebreaker against the 25th-ranked Clemson. They lost but if they can fight the rest of the ACC season the rest of the season, they'll finish with a .500 or better record and make it to the ncaa tournament. If you're on Twitter, give Marco Stancati a follow as he lost his second tough match-deciding tiebreaker in the last couple of weeks. Georgia Tech on Sunday. This is one of the must wins! My preview for the rest of the Canes' season. (Post #46)

Mia Chi 'Cane '98

I do not like tomorrows match up the way the 'Canes are playing right now. Plus Miami never plays well against NCST. I have a feeling UNC is going to win the ACC Tourney. The Duke's & UNC's always find the easiest path to the championships.

No matter what happens Miami is in and the real season starts on Thursday/Friday.

Going to watch the game with some good friends who are also alumni. This maybe the second time (first time was the 2000 Sweet 16 vs Tulsa) ever that we are getting together to watch a 'Canes bball game. In the last 15 years living in Chicago we have only watched football.

86Cane

For Kiri's eyes ONLY:

The No. 70 University of Miami men's tennis team dropped their ACC opener at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center with a tough 4-3 loss to the No. 25 Clemson Tigers. The loss drops Miami to 9-5 on the season.
"It was a really hard fought match today by our guys today," head coach Mario Rincon said. "Omar fought back from being down a set to give us a win on court four, and Marco was almost able to do the same for us in his match. We knew Clemson was going to be tough, but we gave them a great effort and fought them until the end. My hat goes off to Clemson for playing well in the most important points."

The Tigers barely edged out the doubles point to start off the match. The 11th ranked doubles team of brothers Yannick and Dominque Maden dominated the Canes No. 1 team of Omar Aly and Wilfredo Gonzalez with a quick 8-2 victory. On court three, Miami's Henrique Tsukamoto and Marco Stancati played very well but ultimately lost 9-8 to Clemson's Gerardo Meza and Hunter Harrington to clinch the doubles point for the Tigers.

86Cane

Coke...I did NOT mnean that tomorrow got easier, I meant that IF we beat NCST then it the ACC title run get's easier. I agree that Duke losing changed NOTHING about tomorrow's tough, TOUGH game.

JCane

Okay, an interesting setup is taking place in the ACC tnmt. Maryland is playing for their post-season lives. NCState is healthy and playing great ball. Duke apparently wasn't all that excited to play extra games at this stage, locking in at least a #2 and still possibly a #1 NCAA seed without having to risk injury. UNC is up on FSU by 8 at the half. Unfortunately I see NCSU as being the likely favorite to pull out the ACC tnmt. championship based on momentum. However, if the U can take down NCState and then likely UNC after, I see the U moving back into the #1 seed slot, depending on what happens with Louisville, IU and KU going forward. Winning the next two games, especially as the equivalent to a road dog (in Greensboro, NC vs two different NC schools, should they get past NCState and should the likely UNC win over Maryland happen), probably would be enough to boost the U over Duke again, although not as much as if Duke had won tonight and actually played and lost to the U in the tnmt. championship.

Too much wasted thought. Just take down NCState tomorrow and it will be a nice day.

Nice win by the guys with spikes today over UNC. Let's make a weekend of NC schools losing to the U in all sports.

orange 'n green in the vein

The Pimp came out and put it on front street CR and you are exactly right when they went to zone,

"We got a little passive," Larranaga said. "We didn't attack the way we wanted to."

They quit making two guys play them and getting the zone a pass behind for the open three point shooter to make them pay for playing zone defense. Instead it was pass around the top of the perimeter and jack up the somewhat contested three instead of working hard to get the zone shrunk toward the paint and shooting the uncontested one.

CaneRock

Sorry Soup. Our road didn't get easier. Not the way NC State is playing compared to the way we're playing. If they go through the motions tomorrow, they'll get blown out. NC State is looking like an NBA team that got bored with the regular season & is turning on in preperation for the post season. They're spanking teams that are giving us hell. I don't have a good feeling about tomorrow...

Posted by: CoCane | March 15, 2013 at 10:04 PM

Yeah...BUT I think that's because we're playing the "take what the defense gives" us type of ball. Instead of playing take what the defense gives us, AND!, taking what WE WANT TO TAKE, when we WANT TO TAKE IT!

You know, PIMP-BALL.

orange 'n green in the vein

Also they were missing their point guard with a gimpy ankle when UM narrowly escaped with the win on the put-back by Reggie weren't they Coke? He's played superlative worthy ball so far this tournament.

orange 'n green in the vein

Oh and FIRE JIM MORRIS!

Sorry, reflex action since, you know, bad coaching for the football team and all these last two years.
