UM Pro Day began at noon, shortly after the Miami Hurricanes concluded their fourth spring practice and final session prior to Spring Break. Hurricanes players also entertained the NFL scouts while shooting a Harlem Shake video that is expected to drop soon.
Before workouts began, participants underwent physical testing in the weight room for height, weight, vertical jump, broad jump and 225-pound rep test. The second portion of UM's Pro Day featured the 40-yard dash, 20- and 60-yard shuttle runs, L drills and position drills.
FAMILIAR FACES: Several familiar faces dotted the sideline at GreenTree for UM's Pro Day, including alums Olivier Vernon, Sean Spence, Brandon Washington, Travis Benjamin, Darryl Sharpton, Jacory Harris and Graig Cooper.
VERTICAL JUMP: S Vaughn Telemaque recorded the highest vertical jump at 36 inches. WR Kendal Thompkins had the second-highest leap at 35 inches, while both LB Ramon Buchanan and Brandon McGee posted 34-inch jumps.
BENCH TEST: DL Darius Smith was the lone participant to break the 30-rep plateau, recording 33 reps of 225 pounds. The next closest mark was OL Jeremy Lewis, who tallied 27 reps. Buchanan had the third-best performance at 20 reps.
40 FLASH: Both RB Mike James and DB Brandon McGee took their official NFL Combine 40 times. Thursday's best 40 time came from WR Kendal Thompkins, who was officially clocked at 4.37. Buchanan recorded a 4.55 and DB Andrew Swasey came in at 4.66.
BIG JUMPS: Buchanan tallied a UM Pro Day-best broad jump of 10 feet, 8 inches. Thompkins came in second at 10 feet, 4 inches.

Everybody sleeping already?
Two big surprises in these stats...
Andrew Swasey's height... (I thought he was like 5'11".)
And Graig Cooper's 40 time... (Kind of explains a lot about his lack of big plays back in the day.)
All in all I wish all of our former Canes HUGE success in the NFL!
Let's Go Canes!

The ACC Spring Preview (Canes) from collegefootballnews.com. The author? Captain Obvious.
"Why To Get Excited … the ‘Canes should boast the Coastal Division’s most potent offense. Stephen Morris is on the verge of blossoming into a next-level quarterback, and almost all of last season’s starters are back for another year in South Florida. RB Duke Johnson is a breakout star, and the O-line is steeped in experienced blockers.
Why To Be Grouchy … the ill-fated NCAA investigation still hovers above this program like a storm cloud. Everyone associated with Miami figured the school would know its punishment by now. Uh-uh. The NCAA has been exposed as a kangaroo court, which has prevented head coach Al Golden and his players from moving forward. The open-ended saga has had a negative impact on the kids, those on campus and those thinking about becoming ‘Canes.
The Number One Thing To Work On Is … shoring up the D. The Hurricanes finished 2012 ranked 116th nationally in defense, a breakdown of historical proportions. Miami couldn’t rush the passer or stop the run with any consistency. It has to improve at the point of attack after getting routinely mauled by ACC opponents that were a step quicker and considerably stronger in the trenches."

Posted by: Old Skool | March 08, 2013 at 09:24 AM
I think harris ends up at a Louisville or WVU...maybe FSu because they will "promise" he will play QB...Thomas I think is Miami's to lose. This kid is highly intelligent and wont let the Kirland/Ice situation effect his decision.

I see why Telemaque was a non-factor last year. 4.7 40 time and weak sister on the bench with a whopping 11 reps at 225. Marcus Robinson was almost as fast as Cooper. Big difference in Shannon's boys strength wise and Goldies.

Can't find a link right now, but I read somewhere that UM requested to split the FSU and VT series, so we don't have to play them both @home or on the road in the same season.

Cooper was a 4.40 guy here at Miami, his knee injury has slowed him down no doubt But i am sure he can still time in the 4.5's on his better days.
Swasey looked short to me but he is jacked.
Smith showed he is a fat strong guy and that is all, he is not explosive at all with his 23 inch vertical, he is a slow twitch guy.
I am very proud of KT he really showed he is a great athlete and i would love to see him make the league.
Wow a PIMP sighting, he did not run well so I think he will not make the NFL but who knows he might make another league, he really had moves and plays faster then he timed today.
VT numbers were not bad except his bench sucks, his bench has always sucked, he used to do only 1 rep so 11 is a big improvement.
Ray Ray had a good outing and I am sure he can do even better then that, guys here should realize that it is rare that the numbers you put up is your PR, you should be consistent and get close to your PR but u will not always hit that number, Hester ran a 4.41 at the combine which was terrible for him then came home for pro day and ran a 4.27, did he get faster in a couple weeks? no he just had a bad race at the combine. Guys like Buch did not come close to his PR in the 40 and Robinson as well, the tape will have to show their speed and skills is better then what they showed here today.

http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/07/ejection-for-targeting-approved-will-go-into-effect-in-2013/
Interesting rule changes of note:
– To preclude multiple players from the same team from wearing the same uniform number
Looks like Tyriq is gonna have to pick a new number along with numerous other players across college football.
– To clarify uniform rules as follows: “Jerseys must have clearly visible, permanent Arabic numerals measuring at least 8 and 10 inches in height front and back, respectively, and be of one solid color that itself is clearly in distinct contrast with the color of the jersey, irrespective of any border around the number.”
This puts a damper on the imagination of the Nike Pro Combat makers.

Before moving to Middle Tennessee, he spent a year as the assistant football video coordinator at Washington State.
In 2005, he co-founded Professional Sports Inc. (PSI Videos), a company specializing in editing video footage. He left PSI in 2008 for Washington State.
He is a 2005 graduate of Florida State with a bachelor's degree in mass media communications and a minor in criminology. He earned his associate's degree from Palm Beach Community College in 2002. During his time at Florida State, he worked for WFSU television station and WFVS 89.7 FSU radio.
the previous dude left for the same job at the Eagles

Hassan,
So no black numbers with a white outline on a black jersey then. I'm pretty there are a few uniforms that violate that rule.

It has to do with the ACC adding Pitt and 'Cuse and some ND games also. To make it work Six schools had away games two years in a row AT the same school they played the year before.

Same thing happened with the ACC football schedule when BC was added to make 12, UNC got stuck with two road games to the Orange Bowl in a row. If UM begged off the losers at VT road game the same year as the FSU, that is a head shaking moment of pure b!tch@$$ness on the athletic department's part.
So I guess it's time to give the William Moody memorial send off of Rest in Peace for The Pipe's, "Anybody, anywhere, anytime," mantra. Now it's deserve victory, but for the love of all that's holy, don't make us play two road games against teams with a combined fewer national titles than us because winning is hard..

Stargazer Alert:
I am not into recruiting sites and stars, but I have to agree with the order that the ranked these three RB targets:
10. Sony Michel
23. Joseph Yearby
68. Dalvin Cook (Clemson)
I saw all three play the last two years, and I have to agree with the order that they are ranked. Sony Michel is the best overall RB prospect at this point. Yearby is a very close second and is a better pure RB - shifty, tough, fast and hard to tackle. Cook has better straight-line speed.
They all are good. It would be nice to get another RB to compliment Yearby. Al Golden is really doing a good job recruiting. 2014 should be a banner year.
