The Miami Hurricanes wrapped up their rivalry weekend with fifth-ranked Florida State in disappointing fashion Sunday afternoon, dropping the series finale by a final score of 5-1.
Last year in Tallahassee the Hurricanes dropped three straight games to the Seminoles while getting swept at Dick Howser Stadium. Miami has now lost 9 of the last 13 games against FSU.
Just one day after Bryan Radziewski tossed seven shutout innings in a 6-0 Miami victory, the Seminoles tagged Hurricanes starter Andrew Suarez for five runs in the game's first four innings. While freshman lefty Thomas Woodrey and the rest of the bullpen pitched well in relief, the early deficit was too much to overcome, as Miami dropped its series to the Atlantic Division-leading Seminoles.
For the third straight game this weekend, it was the Hurricanes (21-14, 6-9 ACC) who struck first.
After allowing a double to junior Alex Hernandez down the third base line, Florida State (27-5, 10-5 ACC) starter Scott Sitz was charged an unearned run on what appeared to be a routine groundout from senior Chantz Mack. First baseman John Nogowski's throw made its way past Sitz, who was covering at first on the play, and Hernandez wheeled his way around from second to make it 1-0.
Suarez was unable to maintain the lead, however, as the Seminoles struck for five runs over the game's next three innings. The Miami, Fla., native yielded eight hits in his brief four-inning stint. He struck out five batters and walked two. A sacrifice fly from Giovanny Alfonzo tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second, while a Suarez wild pitch gave FSU an early 2-1 lead.
The Seminoles would tack on three more runs on an error charged to Hernandez, a sacrifice fly from John Nogowski and an RBI single from Jose Brizuela. Lefthanders Woodrey and AJ Salcines combined to pitch five scoreless innings in relief, but the Hurricanes were kept in check by a career high-tying eight innings from Sitz.
The Hurricanes will return to Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field Wednesday to wrap up their five-game homestand. First pitch for the matchup with Stetson is set for 6 p.m.
Rats... foiled again.

We should keep Morris and get rid of Golden.
- Canespace logic.
Posted by: My Balls are Sweaty | April 07, 2013 at 06:31 PM
The college baseball season is damn near over and the Canes have a total of 7HR's. You cannot blame that lack of power on the new bats. The Mendoza line and Punch and Judy are prominent in the Canes lineup. Morris has had a great career however it is time for new blood.

Time for a young talented hungry coach who can recruit in this new era of college baseball. Time to get back to where the Canes belong...to the top.

4th straight FSU series win vs Miami...Miami Only 7 homers this season.....in 2008 Yonder Alonso Alonso led the ACC in home runs (21), a first team All-ACC selection, also led the ACC with walks (65). He finished the regular season hitting .380 with a team-high 66 RBI while slugging .799
Sad we used to have a heck of a program...
The last time i was proud of the Baseball team was may 25th 2008...5 years ago...Since then the program is going down and down and down.

NCAA says Miami's motion to dismiss Shapiro case deflects allegations

Miami wasnt deflecting from any allegations, if it did it wouldn't have self imposed sanctions against themselves which means they did admit to some wrong doing. But the motion really smacks at the way the NCAA lied and tried to crucify the U by putting all their eggs in the basket of a ponzi schemer. Paying the guys books in prison even trying to illegally obtain information in a bankruptcy case by hiring his attorney to ask questions to witnesses. And they pointed out the gross mismanagement and lack of institutional control on the part of the NCAA. They just shined the spotlight back at the accuser for their misdeeds.

AP was told last week that the motions will almost certainly be denied. "It's going to a hearing," source says. Stay tuned. More fun awaits.

CBS Sports reports it saw some of the NCAA investigative response to Miami's motions to dismiss. In short, they're against it. Carry on.

Trivia question for U:
How many former Miami football players are in the UM Sports Hall of Fame?
College football HOF?
NFL HOF?
How many, if any, are in ALL three?
Posted by: SOUP | April 07, 2013 at 11:18 PM
I would assume Michael Irvin would be in all three.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | April 08, 2013 at 02:07 AM
Wouldn't Cortez Kennedy be in all three also. what about Ted Hendricks too.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | April 08, 2013 at 02:09 AM
Jim Kelly
Posted by: CoCane | April 08, 2013 at 07:01 AM
Terrance...only Ted Hendricks is on ALL three lists: UM HOF, College HOF and NFL HOF.
Kelly, Kennedy and Irvin are on the UM HOF and NFL HOF lists but not the college football HOF.
Posted by: SOUP | April 08, 2013 at 08:48 AM
Can U believe that "The Playmaker" Michael Irvin is in the UM HOF, The NFL HOF but NOT the college football HOF?
Can U believe that Irvin is in the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor but not in UM's ROH?

As for the offensive line, the talent in these recruits are really something special. Kehoe and Golden have done a damned fine job at getting Hurricane players in his system. Whether it's Flowers, Isidora, Gadbois, or Odogwu... I've heard nothing but good things. That house is in order.
Awesome to hear that Kirby is killing it.
Defensive line, please step up.

Bad news for Duron Carter missing Regional Combine. I'm sure he's sick. But reliability an issue. 3 teams, barely played. This doesn't help.
And...I remember when this poor excuse for a human being threw up an UPSIDE DOWN "U" on the sidelines at the FHSAA playoffs in Orlando a few years back. I am sure his father must be proud of what his son he has done so far in college: NOTHING.

Pete Ariz at CanesInsight:
Miami first offer for Alabama DT Hoyett
It’s no secret that Miami needs defensive tackles badly in this class. The latest name to pop up on the board for the ‘Canes is Pelham, Alabama DT Braxton Hoyett (6’3”, 280), who received his first offer from Miami yesterday.

Pete Ariz again:
Local LB Williams is a unique prospect
2014 Fort Lauderdale High School LB Jaboree' Williams (6’1”, 217) is one of the most interesting prospects in the country. Although he’s listed as a linebacker, you will see that he’s not a one-trick pony after watching his highlights.

I can tell you this and you all can take it fwiw
UF does something we don't do, and that's pay cash to its top football players on an ongoing basis. They also have signing bonuses. I know many gaytor alums, a couple of them are very wealthy alums. One of them is what's called a Bull Gator, who one night was so drunk he was telling me that the BullGators had a clever system of untraceable cash payments to players. Take it fwiw, but later he made it a point several times to tell me he was BSing, but my gut tells me he was telling me the truth the first time. The whole reason this came up is that I was razzing him about how with Golden we were going to kick their asses in recruiting, and he started in

The Herb's been away for a little bit, working a baseball tournament and upon catching up reading the last few blogs, I see where we once again lost a series in baseball. This stinks. It's time for a change. No Morris hasn't forgot how to coach but sometimes it's time for some new blood to come in and give the program some new life. We have become stagnet and and stale as an old ashtray. We're in a fertile recruiting area for recruits, just like football but some how we've found a way to become mediocre.
I also saw where My main man OGV was attacked for his off the wall comments, that seem to offend a few bloggers. Let me chime in for one minute, I realize I've had my moments pounding our hapless D-Line for 2 solid years, the difference, is I'm not laying all the blame on Deno, It's just pure lack of talent he has to work with. I think our DE's will be good but those DT's we have, well to use the Rocks phrase, "Do you smell what's cooking" it ain't them. Golden needs to send every top DT, in the U.S. an offer, so hopefully he can nab one. Our schedule is fianally watered down some, so our defense, will not be as bad as last year. If the man is pissed off let him vent. When I see something over and over that sux, I'm going to say it sux. Since I've been venting about the DT's I see where plenty of other bloggers are now starting to see the same problems. The dee is now 2 recruiting cycles away from being really good and I say 2 because we wiffed on the DT's this past recruiting year. OGV, you may be nausiating at times but I ain't got nothing but love for those screw ball comments. The Herb has spoken!
