Sure, we understand that recruiting is all the rage in college football these days. The fans love to rant and rave all year long now it seems about how their team is tracking the "must gets" like Johnny Fivestar.
Just earlier today we saw evidence of that when highly recruited 4/5 star OL KC McDermott committed to the Hurricanes, Twitter absolutely blew up with the news of the same event from over 30 different sources.
However, smart football fans know that player development and coaching them up in April and August is just as important, and maybe even more so to a team's success, as is landing the big fish in February.
Here in a new feature on Canespace, courtesy of the UM Sports Information Department, we take a look at some of the types of coaching Miami Hurricanes football players get from the dedicated Miami coaching staff.
Today we take a closer look the linebackers and coach Michael Barrow:
Barrow, who himself was a star linebacker for the Hurricanes in the early 90's, now shares his skills with the young and developing linebacking core at Miami. Coach Barrow is in his seventh season as the linebackers coach and sixth as special teams coach. It is Barrow's tenacity that made him one of the best in the NFL that helps him in shaping and influencing Miami's current linebacking crew.
Barrow is one of three former Hurricane players on the current UM coaching staff along with Art Kehoe and Hurlie Brown. He played for Miami from 1989-92 earning numerous honors. In 1992, he earned All-America honors, was the Butkus Award runner-up and finished seventh in Heisman Trophy voting.
Barrow, a fierce competitor known for his big hits (just ask FSU's Tamarick Vanover), was also the Big East Defensive Player of the Year in 1992 and finished his career as the third-leading tackler in University of Miami school history. He will always be remembered as one of the great defensive players at The U.
Barrow went on to play 13 seasons in the NFL. He was a second-round draft choice of the Houston Oilers in 1993. Barrow played for the Oilers through 1996, for the Carolina Panthers (1997-99), the New York Giants (2000-03), the Washington Redskins (2004) and the Dallas Cowboys (2005).
On a UM defense that is looking to significantly improve over last year's poor performance, the linebackers, and coach Barrow, will look to make a major impact on the team's success in 2013.
Boom!

Coach Barrow is an "Old School 'Cane". Nurtured on the Orange Bowl, and a guy who lives the Leagacy of 'Cane ball. Everyday.
A great guy, and excellent Coach.

McDermott is such a monster addition...
'Canes have Kc, Brandon Linder and Trevor Darling. Huge--quite literally--players to have coming in when four starters leave after this season.

Shane Larkin ---
who here thinks that if you get a scholarship to a university you should have to sign something that says you need to stay minimum 3 years. this whole idea of going to school for free and then go enter a draft leaving the school out to dry is bullshit.
that's the way it is in professional sports... why should you go to school for free and not give anything neck to the school.

I hear Larkin is gone.
BAD DECISION.
