McGee was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the fifth round, while James was taken by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round. McGee is the 12th Miami Hurricane drafted by the Rams and the first since Damione Lewis in 2001; James is the 13th Hurricane drafted by the Buccaneers and the first since Nate Webster in 2000.
With the selections, Miami now has had at least NFL draft pick in each of the last 39 years, one of the longest streaks among FBS programs.
McGee started the final 24 games of his college career at defensive back. As a senior in 2012, he tied for sixth on the team with 54 tackles and tied for the team lead with two interceptions. The Plantation, Fla., product also notched 4.0 tackles-for-loss and finished with a team-best seven pass break-ups.
In December, McGee was the recipient of the Captain’s Award and Plumer Award for Leadership, Motivation and Spirit at the team’s end-of-season banquet. He participated in the 88th East-West Shrine Game held in January at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. McGee concluded his college career with 109 total tackles, 6.5 tackles-for-loss, 12 pass break-ups and three interceptions in 44 games with 25 career starts.
James competed in both the Senior Bowl and NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in January. He started all 12 games at running back for the Hurricanes in 2012, finishing as the team's second-leading rusher with 642 yards and six TDs. The Haines City, Fla., product concluded his career with 1,386 rushing yards and 17 scores, while catching 67 passes for 585 yards and five TDs.
One of 11 FBS players named to the 2012 AFCA Allstate Good Works Team in September, James was the recipient of the Community Service Man of the Year, Captain’s Award, Melching Leadering Award and Jack Harding Team MVP at the team’s end-of-season banquet.

There is a former UM head coach who was considered to be an excellent talent scout (if U get my drift) who thinks he is the BEST of the bunch and that includes Sony:

I think McGee could be in the league for a very long time. There is value in him that the scheme he played in doesn't show. I like Golden, he has brought us along in many ways. Next years draft will prove that. But can anyone here honestly remember a worse defensive scheme? I think we have so good players on D, but the scheme is awful. I sure hope it turns around next year. Anyone have a guesstimation as to how much longer the NCAA stuff goes on? It seems likely it will go on through this cycle of recruits at least. CGNG, there is so much to do in this area. There is a lot of water to raft and canoe. The bears and wolves will be moving around more next month. Also baby animals will start dropping like crazy. I say everyone should come out this way on a vacation and see some neat towns and Americas First National Park. Its so fulfilling to be up here and understand what it takes to survive up here. It takes you to your roots from 10,000 years ago. Mike James will be in Tampa and will score a few TDs for them. Make sure you can get all that money you can and show them how tough and smart you are. Mike James will know all the plays in 2 weeks. Then when you get don playing, come home to Miami andlearn fromthe best rb coach the is. We watch you to be the next Art Kehoe for rbs.

Excellent to see Mike James and Brandon McGee get drafted. I hope James gets the opportunity to show his stuff. Wonderful person.
I see the UM internet world exploded as the Michel family received a new Corvette, Hampton vacation house, and ownership of Bank of America.
Just a request: please stop fretting about situations that are irrelevant to this season. Don't give in to reactionary tendencies and say the world is falling because of X. Come on.
Perhaps it's a good thing to weed out the "committed but still looking" and "diehard Canes fan but commit to $ECs" before the season gets started.
Recruiting is nonsense for fans. Please. Perspective, people. Wins > recruiting.

2012 revisited after the draft:
Canes had two players drafted (average round: 5.5).
How did our 2102 opponents do?
Opp. / Result / # Drafted / Avg. Round
BC W 41-32 -
KSU L 52-13 3 4.00
BCook W 38-10 -
GT W 42-36 -
NC St. W 44-37 3 3.33
ND L 41-3 6 4.67
NC L 18-14 5 2.80
FSU L 33-20 11 3.82
VT W 30-12 2 6.00
VU L 41-40 1 5.00
USF W 40-9 3 5.67
Duke W 52-45 1 7.00
Just looking at the draft results and excluding everything else, we probably shouldn't have lost to Virginia. Other than that, not many surprises.
NC's success in the draft is the one stat that sticks out to me. Shows what sanctions and scandals can do to a talented team.

UMike..U good. Like I said yesterday, don't sweat the small stuff. Just remember this latin phrase:
Illegitimi non carborundum is a mock-Latin aphorism meaning "Don't let the bastards grind you down".
Carborundum, also known as silicon carbide, is an industrial abrasive material, but its name resembles a Latin gerundive.
The phrase originated during World War II and is attributed to British army intelligence. It was a motto of US Army general "Vinegar" Joe Stillwell and was further popularized in the US by 1964 presidential candidate Barry Goldwater. It is also the first line of the Harvard fight song Ten Thousand Men of Harvard.
There are a number of versions for the phrase referenced in popular culture.

This is for RoachCane and KiriJax EYES ONLY:
For the first time since 2009, the University of Miami women’s tennis team will be competing in the ACC Championship final after upsetting top-seeded and No. 2 ranked North Carolina, 4-3, in the first of two semifinal matches Saturday at the Cary Tennis Center.
“We played with such heart,” said UM head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews. “UNC pushes you to a different level physically and today we responded. Our girls never quit. They believed for four and a half hours.”
Freshman Kelsey Laurente, Miami’s 91st-ranked singles player, broke a 3-3 tie and sealed the gritty win for the Canes at No. 2 with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win over the Tar Heels’ 44th-ranked Zoe De Bruycker. The match was the last of three three-set singles bouts on the day.
It was the fourth three-set win on the year for Laurente and her third over a ranked opponent.
“This win was earned the hard way… Miami style,” said Yaroshuk-Tews.

The Miami Hurricanes evened their road series with Boston College Saturday afternoon, capturing game two of their weekend set by the final score of 5-0.
After failing to plate a run in Friday's series opener, the Hurricanes (29-17, 11-12 ACC) wasted little time in opening the scoring on another chilly day for baseball at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond. Miami plated three runs in the early going, and, backed by another dominant start from junior lefthander Bryan Radziewski, won their eighth contest in the last 11 tries.
Radziewski, who entered the game with the-second lowest ERA of any pitcher in the conference, continued his dominant campaign with a complete-game shutout of the Eagles (7-34, 1-21 ACC). The Miami, Fla., native scattered four hits over the outing, allowing just three Eagles hitters to reach as far as second base. He struck out eight batters and walked two, lowering his ERA to 0.95 in the victory.
After a dormant performance in game one, Miami's offense sprung to life Saturday against Eagles' righthander Eric Stevens. Eight of the team's nine starters recorded at least one basehit, with three Hurricanes recording multi-hit games. As a team, Miami registered 12 hits in a sparkling performance.
The Hurricanes stranded two runners in game's first inning, but tagged Stevens (0-10) for three runs in the second. After senior Alex San Juan and freshman Christopher Barr opened the action with back-to-back singles, freshman Brandon Lopez laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance both runners into scoring position.
Junior Tyler Palmer belted a single into the right-center gap, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. With two outs, junior Alex Hernandez drew a four-pitch walk to give Miami runners on the corners. A designed double steal play would increase the Hurricanes' lead, as Palmer took off from third with the catcher's throw already on its way to second in an attempt to catch Hernandez. A nice slide from Palmer around the tag of Eagles' catcher Matt Pare made it 3-0 in favor of the visitors.
The Hurricanes tacked on two more runs in the middle innings to increase their lead to 5-0. An RBI double from Hernandez over the outstretched glove of outfielder Chris Shaw plated Lopez in the fourth, while Carey successfully squeezed in a run with runners on the corners in the sixth. Carey matched a career-high with three RBI's on the day.
That was all Radziewski would need, as he cruised through the Eagles' order during the middle innings. The southpaw retired 11 straight Boston College batters between the fifth and eighth, recording his fifth straight quality start with one of his most dominant outings of his decorated season.

This was a downer catch-up day haha y'all need to calm it down!
Golden has done a tremendous job, his overall record doesn't appear to back it up but if you REALLY watch the games, it does. Plus, I've said this before.
The third year of a coach is the defining season of his tenure at a school. Golden wins 10 games this season and we won't be having this discussion.
Youth, youth and more youth are now plenty experienced players. This is a CanesFamily guys, Stand With The U.

Posted by: nemo2002 | April 28, 2013 at 01:47 PM
I do not know much about returning QB's at other schools, but you would have to think Morris will be a top QB next year. He has all the tools and doesn't play in a spread. He has all the tangibles as well. If he improves on a couple small things (like not hitting the RB's feet on a swing pass) he should be one of the top QB's in the nation.

SOUP, Morris is as talented as anyone next year. If he can turn around his short passes I wouldn't be surprised. I don't think Johnny Football comes out next year. Morris will be up against Taj Boyd, Aaron Murray, Logan Thomas, Prince from UW, Zach Mettenbuger...
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | April 28, 2013 at 02:35 PM
kenyon...I agree Golden's record doesn't indicate the good work he has done. EVen our loses (minus the top teams) have been close hard fought games, something that didn't happen under Shannon. I still think D'No and/or how Golden handles him will determine how far Golden will go and how good he will be.

QBs I see better: Manziel, Boyd, Bridgewater, Mariota, Miller, McCarron, Murray, Lynch with valid arguments for Renner, Thomas and Martinez.
Morris being Top 10 is definitely a reasonable spot at this time. By the end of the season, though... Top 5...
Posted by: kenyon19ypr | April 28, 2013 at 02:39 PM

I agree with this. Morris has all the physical tools U want in a NFL QB. He has always had the arm strength (which is even better now than last year) and he now has the accuracy to go along with it. He was VERY IMPRESSIVE at the Spring game.
The one "intangible" that I am not yet convinced he has that the BEST QBs always have is the leadership, charisma and dynamic personality that makes everybody on their team better.
It is possible that in the huddle among the guys and in a quiet way he may have that but in a public sense he does not show it or convey it.

Great discussion, great posts. I wanted to say McCarron and Bridgewater also, but its hard going in and out of service here in Montana. I don't see any of those guys as better than Morris talent wise other than maybe Bridgewater. Should be a good year coming up.
