Hurricanes sports fans can register now for the 3rd Annual University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame (UMSHoF) Celebrity Dolphin Tournament, which will take place June 28-29 at the Postcard Inn at Holiday Isle in Islamorada, Florida.
Ray Lewis , a former Hurricanes linebacker and two-time Super Bowl winner with the Baltimore Ravens, will host this year’s activities, which include a captain’s meeting, full day of fishing, awards dinner and live and silent auctions involving sports memorabilia as well as a variety of gift packages. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to anglers in eight categories.
A portion of the tournament proceeds will go to The Buoniconti Fund
to Cure Paralysis, Habitat for Humanity of the Upper Keys and the UMSHoF.
“A record number of well-known former Hurricanes will participate this year,” said K.C. Jones, president-elect of the UMSHoF, a 2008 hall inductee, two-time Super Bowl winner with the Denver Broncos and founder of the tournament."
“Along with this, we’ve seen an increase in inquiries from fans who want to fish, network and simply have fun with other supporters of The U. We expect the tournament to have 500 participants and 100 boats in what is only its third year. There is no better place to be in Florida than the Keys in June to support important causes.”
Ray Lewis added: “The University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame Celebrity Dolphin Tournament is a great opportunity for Hurricanes fans and former student-athletes. I look forward to a weekend of fun, rewarding activities that are planned for this year’s tournament.”
Former Hurricanes sports stars slated to participate include
NFL Hall of Fame Inductee and 2012 Tournament Host Warren Sapp (Tampa Bay
Buccaneers and Oakland Raiders), NFL Hall of Fame Member Ted Hendricks (Baltimore
Colts, Green Bay Packers, Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders), NFL Hall of Fame
Member Jim Kelly (Buffalo Bills), Brett Romberg (Jacksonville Jaguars, St.
Louis Rams and Atlanta Falcons), Gary Dunn (Pittsburgh Steelers), Damione Lewis
(St. Louis Rams, Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots and Houston Texans),
and Randal Hill (Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints).

With Moten to UF, thats one top DT off the board..good thing there are a few more.

Golden has praised Olsen Pierre to the shed and back. Said he's leaving the rest of them "in the dust".
I'm assuming he's not saying the rest are slacking considering he's praised them as well. Pierre prob starting DT this year, and our best one.
Just a guess by Golden's comments.

This is what the O'Bannon lawsuit is about:
Part IV: Promotion of NCAA Championships, Events, Activities or Programs.
You authorize the NCAA [or a third party acting on behalf of the NCAA (e.g., host institution, conference, local organizing committee)] to use your name or picture to generally promote NCAA championships or other NCAA events, activities or programs.

Dam we need to get Clark...
Posted by: CoCane | April 03, 2013 at 09:31 AM
If in fact Morten to UF is true..and it seems to be..there is little chance he flips. St. Thomas players simply dont flip. Were going to need Clark (who i think is a close Cane lock) and Valantine

Anthony Moten @anthony_moten95 1m
JUST COMMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA..#GOGATORS
IDK if that is his real account or not..but according to Pete Ariz, Corey Holmes also tweeted it, and told Ariz it was legit. of course Holmes has been wrong before and there doesnt seem to be any update on Rivals about it.

Moten's no big loss to me, Clark is more of a TRUE DT to me.
Posted by: CaneRock | April 03, 2013 at 11:54 AM
CaneRock..I don't know much about Moten, and I think Clark has always been our top target..BUT..I dont like loosing a guy at a position of need to an instate rival from a feeder school lol

Book sucked, and not in the, "Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day," type of way either.

This could be a transition year from an above average program to a good program. It is primarily contingent on three areas of improvement:
1. Defensive penetration.
2. Tight end production.
3. Exorcising the dropped passes.
I think we've addressed #2. The others? No idea.

I'm sure Deon Bush can be an all american at safety, yet he has impressive press man skills and strong enough too handle bigger wr's would a switch to corner be so wrong at least on some formations, unless of course he re-fines his tackling techniq

Travonte Valentine backs out of his commitment to the Gators and Moten then commits to those bums. We've offered 6 and so far 3 are off the board. It's early, but we don't need just 1, we need at least 3 but I'll take 2. We lack a lot of quality as it is now and in reality, an injury or 2 to the wrong ones up front and it's sieve city again.

Awesome!
Moreover, I think KC might be our Duke/Dobard. Recruits recruiting are excellent, and UM needs them all.
Posted by: LB | April 03, 2013 at 03:09 PM
That's true Ohio but I haven't seen us recoup any DT's that went back out on the market. That part of the board us been boarded up for some time and for us to change defensively this has where its got to get better, in a New York minute.

Well, we've got at least 10 offers out to DT's across the country, be it high school or JUCO.
It's not that they're not trying, believe me.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | April 03, 2013 at 03:20 PM
DT's are not looking at Miami as a school that will get them to the next level..imo
Posted by: UMike | April 03, 2013 at 03:22 PM
We do have depth at the DT position....don't think that it was that big of a need in the last recruiting class (1 or 2 would be ideal in 2014). We just have a bunch of young players at that position....There is no way Golden would move Briscoe to offensive line if he wasn't comfortable with the DT depth.
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | April 03, 2013 at 03:59 PM
I don't know if this kid will play DT, but look out for Ufomba Kamalu now.
The kid's 6'6 280, and runs a 4.6 40, that's nothing to sneeze at.
Remember, Golden averages about 2 surprises per recruiting class, last year it was Jenkins and Waters. So don't be surprised if Kamalu joins CaneRock's 2013 All-Time LOF...Alex Figueroa.
Watch what I tell ya'll now.
Posted by: CaneRock | April 03, 2013 at 04:25 PM
CR, I'm pretty sure Golden has said Kamalu will be a DT for us.
