Great stuff Soup.

"A new name appeared on the post-spring depth chart Tuesday. Pat O'Donnell, a graduate punter from the University of Cincinnati, is listed as the Canes' No. 1 punter and is also listed on the depth chart for field goals, kickoffs and placeholder. O'Donnell has signed a financial aid agreement with the University of Miami and is expected to enroll in either the summer or fall semesters. O'Donnell averaged 41.8 yards per punt on 59 attempts with the Bearcats in 2012, while dropping 23 kicks inside the 20-yard line and booting 10 kicks of 50+ yards."

As what I'm assuming is a one year stop-gap measure to keep Goudis from being charged with all the kicking duties until he's a little more ready mentally to do so, you can do a heck of a lot worse than this.

I'm surprised I hadn't read about this roster addition previously or maybe it was posted and I just whiffed on it at the time?

orange 'n green in the vein

I also want to know if Coke actually recorded notes at the spring game to then write up in a comment for the blog or if he just put them down from memory because that was about as in depth an analysis as you can get and when you hit the garbage analogy for a player who's an underclassmen still that's pretty damning and I'd hate to think he got a mix-up in his numbers while slagging the wrong useless interior linemen?

CoCane

OGV,

That analysis was by memory. I'm amazed at the things my memory can hold since I've put down the blunts over 6 months ago. No I didn't mix up names. Corey King sucks booty cheeks. Also, he'll be a redshirt sophomore. Along with Grimble they're the most experienced DT's other than the top 3. If he's the best DT behind Pierre, Robinson & Porter. WE CANNOT MISS ON CLARK, VALENTINE & HOLLEY OR TORRES FOR THE 2014 CLASS. If we do miss on them the defense will suck for another 3 years.

CaneRock

Freshman Alex Figueroa is listed as the Canes' No. 1 outside linebacker, the only freshman listed as a starter following spring practice.

Fi-guh-WHO!

CaneRock

And ain't no way in hell Duke is no 5-9, He looks more 5-11 to me.

CoCane

CaneRock,

You need glasses. Lol!

orange 'n green in the vein

I'm pretty sure, but am too lazy to go back and check right now for certain, the King was a three year minimum project type of prospect to begin with so he can't really be behind schedule to play at this point no matter how many booty cheeks he's dragging on, maybe the herb can enlighten us on Corey's star rankings?

I keep waiting to hear the first signs that Grimble is going to blow up on the interior like I was so certain he would eventually when he signed but so far . . . nada. You remember any early enrollees that stood out as being simply in over their heads on a college practice field Coke? I think last year the only thing I really took from the spring game was that Gray Crow wasn't as horrible as someone had continually advertised on here leading up to his signing and even stated would begin to (*GASP*) question Golden's eye for talent if he had been admitted on a football scholarship, and while apparently the guy is not going to unseat Williams for the backup job this year, it still sounds like he's a consideration in the future for the job at some point.

Account Deleted

Confused?? I thought Porter was going to be part of the improving D this year, and he's not even a starter at this point?

I better go check to see if we've given up any points already.......

CoCane

King was a 1 or 2 star recruit. I ain't saying he has big expectations to live up to like Grimble. I'm just saying they both suck. I don't even remember seeing Grimble in the spring game. Grimble is worse because he's a bust. At the end of the day they both suck. At least King brings the effort. I haven't heard anything about Grimbles work ethic. I hope King eventually develops into at least a solid player but I just don't see it...

CoCane

Longtimecanefan,

Look at the depth chart again. It says ROBINSON OR PORTER. That means that either 1 could start & they're still battling it out. Robinson has been reported to be in gret shape & is playing better than he ever has. Same for Porter. Either way, Porter Pierre & Robinson will rotate & play the bulk of the minutes. Don't complain about having depth when we need it so badly...

SOUP

OGV...good to see U back on the blog.

CORRECT.

CoCane

Also don't forget their skill sets. Porter is a run stuffer, while Robinson penetrates & gets pressure but he's not as strong as Porter at the point of attack...

SOUP

Coke...Can U coach the defense? From what U are saying we could prolly better? LOL

Terrance Sullivan

CoCane Coach D need to give you a percentage of his check. U are bringing the Heat man.

Montreal-Cane

Pat O'Donnell a very nice addition to the Canes watch his 76 yard punt against NC State last season...He seems as good as Bosher if not better.

Saban received a deal in March 2012 worth nearly $45 million over eight years, running through January 2020.

Alabama's DC kirby Smart gets today $3.85 million, 3-year deal. Yes a DC!

My question don't you think the scum bags at the NCAA needs to look into this. The so called amateur sport which is college football. Alabama is becoming the New York Yankees of college football...What is the total pay roll at UA for football???

Talk about unfair advantages in college football...And don't you think that most of the profits should benefit the school, the students, education and research. If i am a player i don't buy into Nick Saban core values...Nick is only about the $$$

If it's not too late, save college football and a salary cap on coaches needs to be implemented.

CF is becoming very sick and i don't think the NCAA is the right doctor.

Terrance Sullivan

I like the pickup of O'Donnell. I agree completely with MontrealCane sentiments. I noticed that our scoring defense gave up 20 points a game in 2011 and was ranked like 20th last year our scoring defense gave up 30 points a game and was ranked 84th so hopefully our defense can limit opponents closer to that 20 points a game and with our projected offense that alone could help our Canes get back to a top 10 level or better. Go Canes.

Do you mean for the coaches, or the players? Two separate sets of books.

SOUP

Monty...$$$ don't win, players and coaches do. Wait let me check that...OK the latest word in is that $$$ wins everything.

The rest of college football is screwed.

RIP, Pat Summerall. "The voice of football" was 82. Wow, seems like yesterday I was listening to him call games

LB

Offense looks in fine order.
- Flowers at LT, Bunche at LG. This must signal that Susan's man at RT is doing some work. Odogwu splitting time at second signals that they can flat out recruit starters on the o-line (see Isidora and Flowers).
- Golden praised Ryan Williams! despite him being solidly behind Morris. Keeping Morris healthy is a must, but a game experienced backup is excellent.
- From all accounts, Scott seems poised to have an all-conference season. Yet he's #2 behind Hurns. Good competition or motivation?
- Notice there isn't a third string running back. Perhaps that's because it's the two deep (with the "or's" getting in, save the corners).
- McCord seems like a Kevin Greene (rush linebacker). He has to be. Taking him away from DE without that in mind seems maddening given the weakness.
- Shayon Green was the steadiest defensive lineman last year, leading the way for tackles. He's gotten grief, much of it undeserved. What he needs... is help.
- Who is the Brandon McGee of this year (the senior that will step up)? Jimmy Gaines? A.J. Highsmith?
- Special teams? I trust the coaches, but not the lack of experience on the field. Getting Dallas as many touches as possible at tailback would allow Duke to return kickoffs. He's our best asset to score points.
-------------------
Overall, offense looks like at least a B+, if not higher. It's probably one of the top 2 offenses (I'm counting Clemson) in the conference, given Morris/Duke/O-line/Hagens.

The defensive line should be better, assuming that McCord is indeed a rusher and not a linebacker. That's still not saying much. AQM must get acquainted quickly. I think Kirby is going to be special. Secondary is solid, but again... they can't cover all week. It's a C- defense until the pass rush appears.

However, the ease of the 2013 schedule is paramount. Anything less than 9 wins and the Coastal title is INEXCUSABLE. And I firmly believe that they'll do both.

That is an impressive figure. But think for a moment. Look at the states that value football over primary education: Alabama, Mississippi, West Virginia, etc. That doesn't say much for the future of the state. Taxpayers dictate what a coach is paid and how much money goes to an institution by demand alone. They demand football, damn education.

Saban isn't immortal. Please remember that they've lost five games in the past three years. It's an astounding number, but it's not Playstation-esque. Alabama can lose, and almost lost to Georgia.

Alabama is also going to pay huge sums of cash to prevents their assistants from leaving. That's what happened to Meyer at Florida, and so forth. The NFL continues to call, and they'll continue to pay.

Empires don't last forever, whether built by money or blood. Genghis Kahn was a man. Napoleon had his Waterloo. This is indeed an empire, but it will not last forever. Moreover, college football is cyclical.
------------------
Let them pay if they wish. They have every right to do so. But the pendulum swings both ways...

...and so the Tie slowly falls to the elephant's head.

Not sure what you look at but I have stood right next to him he is 5'8.5 no taller. he does have long arms so he plays slightly longer then his height.

TonyCane

Lb, great line to conclude that.

Alabama reminds me of General Zod in Superman II, when Superman was kneeling down before the bad guy after stepping out of the molecule chamber in the fortress of solitude. Right before Superman "shook" Zod's hand.

Not sure who Tweeted it..but someone Tweeted that Saban compared Tampa area LB recruit Vincent Jackson so some other player...isnt that a violation? You cant mention someone lol

To my knowledge, yes it is a violation. No, Saban won't receive flack for it ($EC).

Apparently, it was all Eddie Johnson's decision.

Agree, 100%

TonyCane

UMike, he might even be commended by the NCAA.

"Violation? Are you serious? He should be commended for raising the self esteem of the prospective student athlete. If only all of our member institutions held themselves to such a high standard."

Unofficial, untrue statement from Mark Emmert:

Nick Saban is held with the highest regard by our governing body. His championship pedigree and coaching influence cannot be understated. For his enduring work, he shall be receiving a raise and a personal lapdance from myself and the rest of the NCAA.
