The University of Miami Hurricanes' baseball team wrapped up their five-game homestand in impressive fashion Wednesday night.
On a picture perfect evening in Coral Gables, UM came from behind to capture a midweek contest with visiting Florida Atlantic by a final score of 6-4.
In a back-and-forth affair at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field, Miami jumped out to an early lead, fell behind, and then rallied in the later innings to claim the rubber match of the season series with the Owls.
Freshman shortstop Brandon Lopez, who matched a career high with three hits and set a new career mark with three RBI's, delivered a clutch two-out, two-RBI single in the bottom of the seventh that proved to be the difference.
The Hurricanes (28-16) connected for two runs in the bottom of the first inning off FAU starter Kyle Miller to claim a 2-0 advantage.
With Alex Hernandez and Tyler Palmer in scoring position after back-to-back hits to open the frame, senior Chantz Mack knocked in the game's opening run on an RBI groundout. A four-pitch walk to freshman David Thompson then gave Miami runners on the corners, and senior Alex San Juan delivered an infield single plating Hernandez from third to increase the lead to 2-0.
The leadoff single from Palmer extended his hitting streak to a season-best five consecutive games.
The Owls would respond with three runs of their own off Miami starter Javi Salas (5-4) in the second inning on RBI singles from Mitch Morales and Nathan Pittman sandwiched around a sacrifice fly from Sean Murrell.
But the Hurricanes would strike right back to tie the game in the bottom of the same inning, as an RBI single from freshman Brandon Lopez knotted the game up once again. With junior outfielder Dale Carey on third after a double and advance via wild pitch, Lopez dropped a single in front of FAU rightfielder Corey Keller to tie the game 3-3.
After allowing a single run in the third to make it 4-3 in favor of the visitors, Salas would settle down to retire the next 18 batters he faced before being pulled in favor of senior closer Eric Nedeljkovic in the ninth. After allowing six hits in the first three innings, Salas would allow none the rest of the way, striking out four FAU batters on the night.
With the game tied up at 4-4 after an RBI single from Mack in the sixth, the Hurricanes struck for two runs off Michael Sylvestri (3-1) on Lopez’ basehit through the leftside to gain a 6-4 advantage in the bottom of the seventh.
Nedeljkovic shut the door on his tenth save of the season with a flawless inning, helping extend a string of 21 straight batters retired by Miami pitchers to close out the night.
The Hurricanes next travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., for an Atlantic Coast Conference series with the Eagles of Boston College. First pitch for Friday's series opener is set for 2:30 p.m.

1. Soup I still remember meeting you and UMike and UMike's kid at the Canespace nose bleed seats at the first game in Sun Life against Charleston Southern!
2. You gave me a Sean T. shirt and I had every intention of keeping it but ended up giving it to a local kid who wanted it worse then I did!

1. Those were the days I remember well. The blog was pure and simple and growing like crazy. UMike was one of the first bloggers I met and hung out with. He is a good man.
2. Pay it forward. OcalaCane always told me I could make big $$$ by selling the ST#26 shirts and he was prolly right. But I just couldn't do it, and for me it was never about the $$$, it was about The U.

Sarasota, it's not that every kid that doesn't come to the "U" is paid. It's that the ones that have the "U" as their leader, that's always been a fan, that considers the "U" their dream school, only to all of a sudden pick an SEC school. An SEC school that their high school has no ties to. They got paid. Maybe you don't know anybody from Pompano. I do. It's NO SECRET that LSU broke bread. The whole hood in Pompano knows it. The whole hood in Lauderdale knows it was wrong side business with Collins & Arkansas...

Just catching up on the blog... I can honestly say the recruit I want the most for miami is Ricky Town. Absolute must get!

SOUP..great pic there...hard to believe my son will be starting high school in 4 months!!! And although he didn't make it in football, he made all-county in band and track this year..very proud of that..not to mention he is almost a straight A student.

UMike...I have such MAJOR respect for U that U will never know. Most people who I have ever criticized here just cut and run.
But not U. U stick and stay on Canespace because U are a man of conviction. I have mad RESPECT for that. U are a good father and have a great son. Be safe and be blessed!

OGV, You never seam to miss a chance to rundown our coaching staff, it really gets old. Do you think you are helping? If so you must be doing something besides adult beverages.
Just so you know I would not ask Ricky or his dad to read Canespace because I would be ashamed of some of you so called cane fans. One of the biggest reasons Ricky is so high on Miami is the coaching staff, especially Al Golden and now coach Coley.
So OGV please stop it.

OGV...so there IT is, the FINAL word.
Be POSITIVE or be gone. This is the LAST warning!

Awesome pics 86. Glad the baseball team had a good win against FAU tonight. Go Canes.

Brevard...Ricky Town is the real deal in every sense of the word: talent, arm strength, leadership and smarts.
I only wish that U and every other Canespacer could have been with us at the party on the patio at The Hampton Inn when Harry Miller walked over, introduced himself and told us the whole story.
It was one of theose classic moments in time when TRUTH trumps rumor and opinion. I will say this: IF Ricky Town comes to UM we will win a National Championship.
Yeah, I said it.
Posted by: 86Cane | April 24, 2013 at 11:24 PM
86, and I will say this...when Golden gets this completely turned around, the SEC will need to partner with Dubai to have enough "resources" to just compete for the talent in South Florida.

Ricky Town's High School is St. Bonaventure High, According to Jed Fisch they run the same offence and plays the Canes run just different calls. I was there heard it with my own two ears. You think Ricky would have a hard time learning our offence, I don't think so, he is a very smart, bright, humble young man beyound his years. He is a respected leader and he may be a Cane. If so he will lead us Back to being the U again .National Champions Hated on the road, loved at home, and winning. How can you turn that down.

Bang that drum. He's at least twice as important as Michel ever would be in the scheme of things.

With Miami offering at least a few RB's the last couple days, I am starting to think that Sony already informed the staff he will not come to Miami. Of course, this is just my opinion.

Chris Lammons @CL1_Era 8m
Canes insight got me messed up but it's all good
Chris Lammons @CL1_Era 51s
@kennethraw1 yea they flawging talking bout they not sure if I'm ready
This is what Tito said after going to the 7vs 7 event...
"While I most likely will be in the minority in saying this, I'm not 100% ready to say Chris Lammons should be in this class. Lammons is 5'8 and has serious issues when fighting against receivers bigger then him. While I may be stating the obvious, Lammons didn't have a great performance at the camp. I want to see him during the regular season and then make my judgement but as for now, I wouldn't rave about him."

hahahaha... super cool blog canes fans. What's been up with the football program? I grew up a die hard cane fan although I ultimately elected some rinky dink little school in a land far far away. Anyways... for the sake of all the real men that actually built the Canes dynasty, i hope they get it together sometime in the next decade. until then it just seems like anything can happen on any given saturday.

He told 247Sports, "I had been committed to Florida State since like my sophomore season but Miami never offered me. Coach [defensive line coach Jethro] Franklin came here today and I liked what he said. Florida State hasn’t paid me that much attention and I thought maybe they moved on in the process. I wanted to stay in Florida so I made my decision today.”

First and Foremost Love the Blog and s/o to 86 and Gang for keeping it alive....I HATE the CANE bashing/negative U thinks as well...I have said since the beginning why be a fan if U can't be delusional the kids don't say "hey we can win 10 this year possibly lose to them and them but all and all its a good season"....Great Performances start and end with Great Fans...and some of U are HORRIBLE...Yes ppl read these blogs DUH we aren't all the same living room we are all across the UnitedStates and we are just now noticing kids not coming has something to do with U not just Coaching and Winning Games...Kids like to play in front of True fans Not Bandwagon Fair Weather Fans...Remember that when U type and even if Gabe Terry did get arrested why are we pressing that on here....if family is family why promote bad press...thats just my stance U dont have to agree but duely note what we don't recieve is partly the fault of FairWeatherFans who always screaming oh he is the next him and oh he is the next them Nobody is the Next Anything Duke is Duke...Stephen Morris is Stephen Morris...and again Nobody is the best QB since Berlin because Berlin SUCKED what were U watching that a GayTurd turned Cane gets so much I would've rathered Cruddup start because he was a true Cane and NEVER recieved a fair chance from the jump..

A DT! Finally!!! I wish he were enrolling in the fall, but this is still very good for the U
Posted by: j.w. | April 25, 2013 at 12:10 PM
I liked Crudup, but in the game he started he really didn't stand out. Berlin was up and down, but he was generally very good.

Not a shocker..but Golden said Terry is no longer with the team..so its official

Terry was also suspended before the spring game

The Sony situation seems so weird. Everyone who usually has any good info is saying UGA, but it has also been reported that Sony hasnt visit UGA in 7 months and has visited Miami several times in that span. He has also said he "has known for a while" where he will go..not sure what to make of that.
Posted by: UMike | April 25, 2013 at 01:26 PM
UMike, a case could be made "known for a while" means since the last time he visited UGA.
Not saying it does, just speculating.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | April 25, 2013 at 01:56 PM
I mean don't get me wrong Cruddup wasn't the best but I mean he studied under the GoldenBoy Ken Dorsey himself He should've recieved a way more fair chance than a kid who didn't knw the playbook and was brought in on a prayer..Id've rather seein B.Ortega Git R Dun over a GayTurd turn Cane...but hey thtz tht 12% in me and by the way we are taking names and as stated before Get On Now or Wait Till 2014...

Say what! A DT committed to DA U, say it ain't so! The last time we had a DT commit so early, he Uh DeCommed on us. Maybe this will start a landslide of DT's coming to us.
He's got the the size too, the Herb has been harping on. Goldie get me at least 2 more of those boys and the next order of business is the LB's. Once our depth looked pretty descent 6 months ago and now, we're down 3. Need some players at this spot.
So Ricky "Down" Town, is our Next QB savior. You know we've had a little bit of luck with a couple Cali Qb's in the past but it's going to be tough to pull left to right, ah but that's a little ways off, so the Herb won't waste to much verbage on that topic right now.
By the way Berlin over Cruddup any flipping day of the week. Berlin lost what 5 games in 2 years and yes, when he was bad he was horrendous but man that dude could orchestrate some come backs.

Hebie...I believe everything Harry Miller tells me about Ricky "Down" Town being the real deal in all apsects of the game.
But don't sleep on Kevin Olsen either. Kid has great genes, a caring and supportive family and is also very, very good looking QB prospect.
