This history lesson is brought to you by the UM Sports Hall of Fame:
Talk about "Being On The Clock", former University of Miami Hurricanes football players set an all-time record by having SIX Canes selected in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft!
Selected at #5 was Sean Taylor by the Washington Redskins, followed by Kellen Winslow at #6 for the Cleveland Browns, Jonathan Vilma was selected by the New York Jets at #12, D.J Williams taken by the Denver Broncos at #17, and the Miami Dolphins picked Vernon Carey with pick # 19 and Vince Wolfork was the 21st pick by the New England Patriots.
That is a total of SIX Canes taken in the first 21 picks of the 2004 NFL Draft.
Known officially as the "NFL Player Selection Meeting", it was held at a theater at Madison Square Garden in New York and telecast live on ESPN. The six players selected give UM a total of 19 players who have been taken in the first round over the 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 drafts.
That four-year total is an all-time record for any college football program.
Miami's 10 first-rounders over the last two years surpasses the mark set by UM in 2001 and 2002 and then again in 2002 and 2003. The previous record was seven set by USC in 1968-69 and matched by Notre Dame in 1993-94.
Prior to the last four years, Miami's previous best two-year total was five, achieved three times (1987-88, 1988-89 and 2000-01). Florida State also produced five first-round lections in 1995-96, as did Tennessee in 1991-92.
The Brooklyn Nets are on the verge of 1 of the most epic late game collapses of all time. Under 5 minutes left, up by 14, 109-95 over the bulls. Now, 109-107 with 1:11 left. Make that 109-109

So if Michael Bishop had kicked off the ancestor to the pro pistol offense trend a decade earlier than it gained traction, Bill would get the duke in that match-up is what you're saying?
When you mention all those, from my view accurate, extenuating leverage generators BEER it makes it sound like you agree he's a coach paid more than his actual 'coaching value' though, which is kind of my point about the guy and why it's extremely risky to overpay to ever attempt to get him to jump.
I've got Snyder over Kirk because I don't really care about the NFL production when all I watch is college football and because while Kirk returned a program to a degree of relevance it once had and then lost, Bill took over the bottom-est rung of college football's ladder in a lot of ways and crafted a HOF coaching career out of the job, even if he scheduled the three biggest pastries he could find out of conference three out of every four seasons to help him do so.
Maybe one day Kirk becomes a HOF'er too and I change my mind by then. He'll need to avoid another 4-8 repeat to begin with though.

Did Schiano, Wanny and Butch himself decide to move up to draft Mike James in the sixth round? Why yes, I think they did. I imagine it went something like this;
"Do you smell that? God I love the smell of value in the sixth round.
One day this draft is going to end."
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | April 27, 2013 at 05:07 PM
OGV, I'd never argue against any point that a coach making $3-4M per annum is overpaid. No coach should be paid those ridiculous sums.

Congrats to Mike James.

Great to see Mike James a McGee drafted. Both of those young men went through a lot while at UM. Wish them both the best.

Yellowstone was exhausting. Went on a good hike. Saw bison, elk, moose, mountain goats and pronghorn. And 1 bad@ss bald eagle. Saw James and McGee were drafted, and not by my Chargers. Best of luck in the NFL Canes. I think they will both be solid pros.

I would pay to see that matchup! We've all seen/met UMike so I say we bring Canesfan1 to the ring in one of those Mexican Wrestling masks! We'll paint it orange and green! My money is on UMike ripping it off! We'll donate any proceeds to the general scholarship fund! It will be a Canespace exclusive!

The more the merrier! Sucks to be them on September 7! Huge draft classes are bittersweet, or have we forgotten the LSU Peach Bowl after sticking 5 in the First round under Coker?

Heralded Plantation American Heritage five-star running back Sony Michel made his college announcement Friday and it wasn't what the Hurricanes were hoping for.
Picture 1
Two thirds of this talented Miami Central trio -- Joseph Yearby and Trevor Darling -- are trying to convince Dalvin Cook (right) to commit to the Canes too.
Michel, considered the fifth best recruit regardless of position according to Rivals.com, chose the Georgia Bulldogs over the Hurricanes because he "wanted something different."
Michel (5-11, 205) is the second straight highly-touted running back from Broward County to choose an SEC school over the Hurricanes. In February South Plantation star tailback Alex Collins chose Arkansas over Miami.
As disappointing as those losses may be, Canes fans shouldn't be totally heartbroken. Something different could end up being a good thing come February when Michel and the rest of the 2014 signing class has to put their commitments to paper and sign National Letters of Intent.
As it stands, the Hurricanes have Miami Central standout Joseph Yearby, the sixth-best running back in the country according to Rivals, as a 2014 commitment. And getting his teammate, Dalvin Cook, rated the fourth-best running back in the country by Rivals, to saddle up with the Canes may not be far-fetched. Cook, currently committed to Florida, said earlier this week continuing his college career alongside Yearby and UM-bound offensive tackle Trevor Darling, another Miami Central standout, is something three have been discussing plenty.

UMike, are you getting your week 2 tickets the same way you did for OSU?
The Nets have never been the same as a franchise since they were divested from Rockafella's portfolio.

Just remember this - we've gone back and forth a few times, like people do on boards, but only YOU wanted to make this into a real and personal confrontation.
The smart thing to do now would be for you to back off.
