The Miami Hurricanes ended their run at the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship on a high note Saturday afternoon, capturing a 7-0 win over No. 18 Clemson in their Pool A finale at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Junior lefthander Bryan Radziewski, selected to the 2013 All-ACC First Team prior to the start of the Championship, delivered another dominant outing against the Tigers (39-20). After a double-digit strikeout performance in his regular season start versus Clemson, Radziewski yielded just four hits in eight shutout innings.
Dating back to Radziewski’s start against the Tigers on April 20, the Hurricanes have held Clemson scoreless over a stretch of 25 consecutive innings, including 13 by the junior ace.
After falling behind early in each of their first two Pool A games, the Hurricanes (36-23) tagged Clemson starter Clate Schmidt for three runs in the first two innings of Saturday’s finale. Aided by a two-run double from junior Brad Fieger and a sacrifice fly from junior Alex Hernandez, Miami chased Schmidt out of the game after the righthander had recorded just four outs.
With Chantz Mack (walk) on second and David Thompson (hit by pitch) on first, Fieger cracked a 1-1 pitch from Schmidt (3-4) past the outstretched glove of outfielder Mike Triller and to the base of the Blue Monster in left. Thompson, who reached base for the 25th consecutive game, raced home all the way from first to give Miami a 2-0 lead.
The Hurricanes loaded the bases in the second on a walk from Christopher Barr and singles from Brandon Lopez and Tyler Palmer, resulting in an early trip to the mound from Clemson skipper Jack Leggett. Tigers reliever Jonathan Meyer did well to limit the damage, allowing just one run on a sacrifice fly from Hernandez before inducing a flyout from Mack to end the threat.
With Radziewski (9-2) cruising through the early innings, Miami extended its lead to 4-0 on an RBI single from Thompson in the fifth. Mack, who earned 2012 All-ACC Championship honors a year ago, led off the inning with a single and recorded his team-leading forteenth steal of the season to set up the scoring chance. Thompson converted on his opportunity, driving a Meyer pitch to leftfield for a single and plating the speedy Mack from second.
Miami tacked on another in the seventh on an RBI groundout from Barr. With runners on the corners after a Mack single and an error charged to third baseman Shane Kennedy on a groundball from Thompson, Clemson reliever Joseph Moorefield issued a walk to catcher Garrett Kennedy to load the bases. Barr used his wheels to beat out a potential double play ball, scoring Mack from third to make it 5-0 in favor of the Hurricanes.
With some help from two errors from the Tigers, junior Dale Carey used his blazing speed to score Miami’s sixth run of the game in the eighth. Carey, who singled to the gap in right-center, stole second, advanced to third on an overthrow from Clemson catcher Garrett Boulware and scored all the way from first after the ball was mishandled by Tigers centerfielder Thomas Brittle.
An RBI single from Kennedy in the top of the ninth capped Miami’s scoring. Thompson was once again the catalyst, rocketing a double to the gap in left-center, taking third on a wild pitch, and scoring on a high chopper from Kennedy.
Senior closer Eric Nedeljkovic entered in the ninth and finished off the Tigers on just 12 pitches. Despite playing without direction from head coach Jim Morris, who fell ill before the game, the Hurricanes took their third straight victory over the Tigers - Miami captured two of three from Clemson in the regular season series between the two teams in late April.
With their run at the 2013 ACC Baseball Championship complete, the Hurricanes now await their postseason fate. ESPNU will host the 2013 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship Selection Show in a live, one-hour telecast at Noon (ET), Monday, May 27.

### Power forward Donnavan Kirk, who transferred from UM to DePaul after the 2010-11 season, told us he likely will enroll at either UM or Colorado State for graduate school and will be eligible to play this coming season.
Kirk, 6-9, averaged 6.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks for DePaul last season and would bolster a UM frontline badly in need of another big man. He said the two schools are “even” and he will make a decision soon after visiting Colorado State this week. He doesn’t need to visit UM because he already has been enrolled here.
"I like Coach [Jim] Larranaga's honesty and his way of doing things, and they need a four-man," he said. But he also likes Colorado State coach Larry Eustachy.
UM has three scholarships left and has been eyeing several transfer and junior college players.

The NCAAade the dumbest decision ever when they chose to go forward wirh Evers investigation. They are going to compromise every investigation they have ever done by the time this hearing is over

It's all over except the crying.
The NCAA case is in shambles and a complete joke. This little gayboy lies about lying. Everything is either a lie, a lie about a lie, and the truth gets lost. Nothing that comes out of his mouth can be reliably believed. The committee will drop this in a couple of weeks and run for mommy with their tails between their legs.

"Shapiro said he socialized with his lawyers, attending a “piano night” at Guy Lewis’ home, where they sipped on Macallan’s 65-year-old scotch whiskey valued at $246,000 a bottle, the complaint says. They also enjoyed boating excursions together on Shapiro’s yacht, and dined at Prime 112 and other upscale Miami Beach restaurants."
Insert "university of miami football players" for "his lawyers" and it all sounds eerily familiar. So, even with all the time on his hands inside the prison cell, thy guy can't come up with a new story. This scumbag might have done us a huge favour with yet another one of his bogus stories.

NCAA is in WAY TOO deep to drop anything. They will do everything in their power to save face.
I actually think they're going to go just the opposite route and try to drop the hammer on us.

Not even close.
The committee on infractions (separate from the enforcement branch) will let us walk and accept penalties served.
They would be crazy to try and hammer us. Too much legal liability.

...UM can bring this up at June13-15 NCAA hearing in attempt to undermine his credibility regarding 20 uncorroborated accusations he made.
Barry Jackson @flasportsbuzz 1m
UM was unaware of Shapiro lying under oath (see previous Herald link)and thus couldn't include it in response to NCAA submitted last week.

With regard to one of his previous interviews with the NCAA, conducted Aug. 16, 2011, Dye said now-retired investigator Rich Johanningmeier threatened his scholarships and remaining eligibility, according to the documents obtained by AP.
"I felt compelled to testify in a manner that would be consistent with the manner in which Mr. Johanningmeier was directing me in order to keep my eligibility," Dye wrote.

Then UMiami breaks away from the NCAA.
That is all.
Posted by: SOUP | May 26, 2013 at 10:28 PM
LOL, soup! There's been talk for years about the bigger schools breaking ranks, and you heard more about it recently when the small schools voted down the proposal to pay all of a student athlete's costs. Add this scandal where it looks like every other investigation that the NCAA has ever done needs to be reexamined, and you can certainly see the momentum for a major shakeup.

That's my concern, that the NCAA drops the hammer out of spite, knowing that even if its overturned legally or through appeal, it has the same effect as an actual sanction while the case is being decided. That said, I think it would be foolish, arrogant, and unrealistic for them to go this route. I say that there are no additional bowl sanctions, perhaps a 5 scholarship reduction, and that's it.
