Send Ricky Town film, Town is 2015 right? We need all the Elite QB's we can get. competition makes us better.

Posted by: Hassan | May 14, 2013 at 09:00 AM

1. Ricky Town is 2015.

2. NO NEED FOR FILM.

3. He camped at Miami last year as a 10th grade HS freshman and won Camp MVP.

4. Golden (and Fisch) met with him for an HOUR after the camp and he toured campus and loved it.

5. That is all.

86Cane

Young Matthew Thomas appears to be caught between a flaming spear and the ground, no?

Life is ALL about choices, choices, choices.

Some good, some not so much. And then there are some that make U look like a silly wabbit. I'll let U decide.

No bowl wins since 2006, no ACC conference title to date, 0-3 vs. UVA our last three shots. With all of these issues abound, Town is the only recruit that is worth the attention. The only one.

This program will live and die with the QB position as we transition from Morris... to Olsen... to TOWN. He's 100 times more important than Sony Michel ever was.

Does anybody have an idea why Larranaga / UM are not on this list?
(It claims that "every basketball coach that made the NCAA Tournament" is listed; obviously not entirely true)

VfB, salaries of private schools are only disclosed if the school wants to. They're not public record like public schools.

That MAY be why?

"The trio will join the UM class of 2013 along with early signing period commitments Deandre Burnett and Davon Reed and UM dual-sport athletes Corn Elder and Derrick Griffin."

Contrary to what some say, Coach L signed a pretty good class. I think Burnett is gonna be a pleasant surprise.

Ohio - that was my first thought, too. But the fact that only 6 of 68 schools are missing and most other private schools listed had me wondering. Anyway; my guess is Larranaga would be around #25. Quite a bargain, getting the AP CoY at that price ;-)

FROM THE PBP HS BLOG:

Arkansas, FAU, Miami, Minnesota, Utah State and Western Kentucky all visited Village Academy over the past few days for 2014 WR Tre’Quan Smith and DE Kevin Bronson.

Miami offensive coordinator James Coley and WR coach Brennan Carroll watched Dwyer 2014 WR Johnnie Dixon at practice. Dwyer coach Jack Daniels said Coley was “intrigued” by 2014 WRs Clint Stephens, Ezra Saffold and S Shawn Boone, as well as 2015 QB Daniel Parr.

Miami looked at Santaluces 2014 WR Darrell Langham, who has Clemson, Florida State and South Carolina offers in addition to UM. Florida and Kentucky have shown interest. Langham (6-5, 205) told coaches he won’t make a decision until his senior season ends.

FAU, FSU, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Navy, Nebraska and Tennessee have all stopped by Cardinal Newman for 2014 WR Travis Rudolph, 2014 DE/LB Arrian Parham and 2015 ATH Erick Hardnett.

The last time I checked the guy is still the reigning Coach of the Year.

UM BBall is the "Moneyball" team of the ACC. Larranega should be able to put together competitive teams every few years but I wouldn't hold my breath that we are going to pull many 5* kids away from the big boys.

Go 'canes!

86Cane

Sota...most of those 5* HS basketball players are "one and done" in college anyway.

NO THANKS.

LB

"Like hell He is, we need some DTs! <-----In my HerbieIbis voice."

Yes, but putting UM into yearly title contention requires a transcendent QB: smart, tough, leader, accurate, good attitude, read defense, college ready.

Town's it. I'm quite happy with the 2012 class, and I'm confident that 2013 & 2014 will get us where we need to be. But big picture, 5-6 years from now...

...you have got to have that QB.

LB

Oh, and Canespace is the first place where Town's name got mentioned. I've been chatting back and forth with Soupers and others about him since early last year.

LB

And if Coley can develop QB's like Fisch could...

...game over.

LB

This is what I don't want and why I hate recruiting in general. The "entitlement" factor.

Per Seantrel's woman:
Edouard, who committed to UM in February and was offered a scholarship by former UM assistant Mario Cristobal (now at Alabama), said new UM offensive coordinator James Coley communicated with him for the first time Monday — via a private message on Facebook.

“I had no previous communication with Coach Coley at all,” said Edouard, rated by Rivals as the 16th best dual-threat quarterback. “I’m guessing either they don’t really want me, or it’s just something that happened. He asked me on Facebook if I trusted him and I said, ‘Yeah, I trust you, but I don’t want to change my position [to receiver or anything else].’

“I’m 6-1 1/2 and I don’t want to take the chance of playing receiver. He was like, ‘Running routes isn’t even in the picture, so don’t even think about that.’

“But I’m still worried — not about the quarterback competition, but about them possibly changing my position. What can I say? I saw it coming, to tell you the truth. UM is not the same to me as it was before.”

I have little tolerance for drama queens or honestly, dual-threat/spread-ish QB's. This guy's both.

Give me Manning and Brady over Tebow & Vick, QB's who dissect the defense and let the skill positions kill. Until it changes, I see them as a trend... not the routine. Though Stephen Morris is fast, dude chucks the pig and makes the throws.

Oh, and pro-style QB's are a LOT less injury prone...

...ssee RGIII.

I hear ya', but I'm not holding my breath on this kid. I mean really, when's the last time Miami won a NC with a "too good to be true" 5* HS QB. We've always won with the "quirky" type QBs, you know, the "weirdo" lookin' guys...Kosar,Dorsey,Walsh (to some extent).

I guess what I'm sayin' is...I don't want the best QB in America, I want the best QB FOR THE MIAMI HURRICANES! And if the best QB for the Miami Hurricanes, happens to be the best QB in America coming out of HS, then so be it.

Just so you all know, I walked into the The U over a year ago and told the coaches that I had a QB that they should look at from California. His name was Ricky Town and I knew him and his dad since he was ten tears old. We were very good friends and I had been telling Ricky and his dad about the U for years because I could see that Ricky was going to be a great QB someday. The coaches liked what they heard and said bring him to camp. In June we came to camp and Ricky won MVP of that camp. We met with coach Fisch in his office for about one hour then coach Fisch introduced us coach Al Golden. Coach Golden was very impressive and seamed to speak from the heart which impressed all of us. Ricky toured the campus before the meeting and we all toured the campus and met a lot of different advisors and players after the meeting and the rest is history. You all should know that Al Golden is special and every one of you should be glad that we have him for our head coach. to hear him with a recruit and his dad was special. The Towns have not forgot about that meeting. Now coach Coley shows up and they really like him also.
I will post only when I have something to report. I went to Orange Bowl in the late 1940's to watch the Canes with my Dad. Been a Canes fan before most of you we're born and I want Ricky Town to be a Cane. I am having Rick read this blog now that the negative comments have eased up. So let him know we want hit Son to come to the U and be one of the greatest if not the greatest ever at the U.
I am doing all I can do, how about you?

Canesfan_1

Harry, your live for the U really comes through, and is much appreciated.

I caution everyone involved to make sure you understand all rules regarding boosters and recruits, and what can and can't be done and said. In light of that, lets be very careful about what is said.

It's best to be careful and be known as a responsible web site and fan base.

Oh, I want Him at UM, BUT!, 2015 is a loooooong ways away. A lot of what ifs come into play.

What if Olsen is balling out as a RS-Sophomore?

What if the lightbulbs come on for Crow and/or Dewey?

What if Kaaya is better than advertised?

And with our revolving door of coordinators lately, what if Coley's not here?

Who knows, too many variables between now and then.

MassivCane

CaneRock, that can happen at any school any kids chooses to go to. Ricky needs to come to the U because of our tradition, you come to compete and beat out the man in front and don't ever look back. That is what made us great through the years. I hope Olsen is balling with Kaaya being a number 2. Ricky knows what it takes to win, that attitude will help him come and and compete and succeed. Simple as that, there is a difference though on what logo is on the side of your helmet []_[] all the way.

It's been all over and written about in many places. Thomas signed with FSU because that's what his mom wanted. That's nothing new and it's common knowledge if you go check a few other places. He was directly quoted saying this as well. He really wants to o to USC but mom will accept UGA as a compromise. But guess what, FSU ain't letting hin out of his commitment, so unless he wants to sit a year he's probably sticking with FSU

The Dude

Thomas still can petition the NCAA. He needs to do what he feels is best for him an his family. All of this makes him look like the little boy he is. Can't make a choice like a grown man. He deserves the bed he made. Frankly, I say this isn't even a Cane story, other than just to kick a guy that didn't choose us. I say f*ck him. Can't wait to beat him in a game.

CaneRock

From reading this whole Thomas thing, seems to me Him and His parents didn't read what they were signing. Because from listening to some of their quotes, I get the sense that they were apprised of the conditions of the LOI AFTER THE FACT.

Which leads me to this question...How far in advance do these kids get these LOIs?

UMike

From Tito at CIS..

2014 Blanch Ely (Fla.) LB Terry McCray is considered one of the top pass rushers in Broward County for the upcoming season. McCray is looking to get himself even better with his team’s spring season.

“The spring is going good, I think we’re have a pretty good team this year. I think I have been improving and I think I’m gonna have a good season this year.”

McCray was a major contributor to the defense last year as he helped pressure the quarterback along with stuffing the run.

“I think my best skill is probably my rush, but also I think I can cover so I would say those are my two best skills. I want to improve on my block pickup during this spring.”

Prior to the spring, two of McCray’s most prominent schools that were after him were LSU and Miami. That list has severely increased with programs such as Michigan State, Minnesota and others getting involved.

“The recruiting process is going good, I actually picked up an offer today from Minnesota. Recently, I’ve been speaking with Michigan State, FSU, I think I should be getting an offer from them soon and also Florida, and Miami.”

The 6’2 215 pound rush edge linebacker has been on Miami’s radar for a while and talked about his interest in the hometown team.

“I like everything, it was one of my favorite schools growing up. I just like the atmosphere when I’m there and a lot of my friends went there.”

The Blanch Ely product has been speaking with Coach Michael Barrow and Coach Hurlie Brown and has built a good relationship with both coaches.

“I love them, they’re real nice and we always talk. They are really cool guys. They ask me how I’m doing in school and how the team looks.”

One interesting factor is how McCray’s cousin happens to be a former hurricane; Teraz McCray. The rush edge linebacker does admit that his cousin helps Miami.

“He tells me it’s a great school education wise and football wise. He just tells me it’s a good school for me.”

McCray is planning to have a decision by the end of the summer. He is looking at several factors when choosing a university.

“A school I can adapt to, has to have a good education with somewhere I can really learn. The football team has to be fully dedicated from the first string to the third string.”

UMike

Edouard is good friends with former Miami Northwestern quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who is going into his junior season at Louisville. Bridgewater was committed to UM before former coach Randy Shannon left, then shifted his allegiance to Louisville. Edouard said he has talked to at least two Louisville coaches, including head coach Charlie Strong, and is very interested in the Cardinals.

He also listed USF, Syracuse and Tennessee as options to replace UM — should he decommit.

-Is proud of his improvements
-Planning on visiting Alabama and USC this summer
-More than likely will visit Miami this summer
-Will be taking part in The Opening at Nike's HQ
-Didn't name his top schools, but goes into detail on which schools are showing him the most love
-Wants to play early and will be eyeballing all the depth charts at each school he is looking at
-Wants to improve upon his 30 rec 800 yds and 8 TDs from last season

Jeffery Farrar

4 star wr from California who also has family ties here since his uncle is former Cane WR Lamont Cain

Upland (Calif.) High School ATH Jeffery Farrar (6’1/196) has had a remarkable spring, picking up scholarship offers from multiple top programs around the country. Tuesday morning he was able to add to that list of offers when Miami called.

“Coach Carroll gave me that call this morning,” Farrar said. We sat down, we talked for a while and he’s the one who offered me. It’s just a great feeling to know that a big time school like that is looking at me, and I can’t wait to get out there.”
The out-of-state prospect expects to meet Coach Carroll for the first time next week. “He’s actually coming out next week to come talk to me in person,” Farrar said.

He now lists offers from Miami, Michigan State, Arizona, Arizona State, California, Washington State, Utah, Nevada, UCLA and Fresno State.

Although, Farrar is being heavily recruited by some top-notch colleges around the country, Miami has a few things going its way. He’s close with current Miami quarterback commit Brad Kaaya, and he would not mind playing with him at the next level.

“Me and Brad are close friends, and we work out together,” Farrar said. “That’s a big time option. Down in Texas at the All-American Combine, that’s who was throwing to me every single time. I got first team all combine down in Texas for receiver, and he was a big part of that.”

That’s not the only thing going in Miami’s way right now, his Uncle Lamont Cain played receiver for the Hurricanes back in the 1990’s. “He just gives me advice, and tells me to stay in school, stuff like that,” Farrar said. He kind of lets me figure it out myself, he’s going to be happy wherever I go.”

The California native has never been in Florida, but that will change in June, when his 7-on-7 team participates in the IMG Nationals in Bradenton, Florida. He also plans on taking an official visit to Miami during his senior year.

The versatile prospect has the ability to play both offense and defense at the next level, and Miami is weighing their options. “They really love me at receiver, but they are keeping that athlete part in mind,” Farrar said.

Thomas should honor his commitment and go to FSU.

And if he won't, FSU should let the kid go. It's bad recruiting PR to force him to attend or sit out. Davis did the right thing back in 2000 with Colon. Fischer should do the same.

CaneRock

I used to coach a kid that wants to be a Cane. Kid's only a 7th grader, but He's already throwing up over 200 lbs on the bench, runs a 4.7 40, and hits like a TON OF BRICKS! He had an uncle that ran track for the U in the 90s, ran on the same team(s) as Tony Gaiter. Matter of fact, I think He might've ran the fastest 100 in the Nation as a HSer. Kid comes from a long line of athletes, and some type of way, He's actually Travis Benjamin's 1st cousin. Anyways, I'm lookin' forward to watch this kids development, should be fun.

Clwtrdan

It would be great if one of you Spacers that is in the know could post a list of 2013 signees and when they will get to campus. Obviously, some are already there, some are reporting to school this week, and others at the beginning of fall practice. True dat, but I don't even think Spence was Grace's weight as a Freshman. And somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember that Spence was always listed as an even 200 lbs.

But again, Spence was proportioned differently than Grace, which just goes to show, that all 200 lbers ain't the same.

Very nice piece on Mike James about him and his Mother's death. He's always in inspiration

LB

Why I'm raving about Town:

1. I watched this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTTMQckl2kU and did nothing but watched his feet. He stays, plants, keeps plays alive, and uses the defender's momentum to his advantage as the rush comes. It's unnerving on how good his feet are. Spooky.

2. Tough as nails in the pocket. But these are only highlights, and he's going to get even better.

3. He will dump it off and take the smart yards. He's not a showboat with the cannon, but looks like a completion junkie.

4. He's EXCELLENT at screens and bootlegs, which means he knows defenses.

5. He doesn't move around unnecessarily, but just enough to keep the play alive and throw the ball to the open target.

#2 could be a slight drawback as I didn't see him slide a lot, though that could be because of the selected highlights. As for pure college readiness, I don't think I've seen anything like him. Like ever.

LB

Mike James is awesome. He deserves every bit of success I can get.

As for basketball, there's a lot of talent. I think UM's going to surprise folks. I don't think we'll be as dominant, but I do think we can secure a spot in the tournament and secure a win.

Folks I am hearing that Derrick Griffin passed his Texas required exit test. One down. Next is qualifying for UM. I am hopeful.

Dont forget the NCAA clearing house...I THINK

orange 'n green in the vein

This.

One thing that coach Golden told us was this is his offensive style of football and he will keep the pro style offence. If Jed Fisch leaves I will get a pro style OC. Along comes coach Coley and the Towns really like him.

CaneRock:
Harry, I'm all for the Pro-Style offense, and PSQB. But when the games on the line, and we need yards or points, I don't give a damn if they run the Triple-Option...as long as IT WORKS! to get that W!

CaneRock 2015 will be here before you know it. In less than a year Miami will be after the 2015 class. Take it from an old guy and Enjoy the trip life is like a role of toilet paper the more you pull out the faster it goes.

CaneRock:
Harry, I hear ya.
But at the same time, the last thing a teenager needs at this point in His life, is a "fan club". Look, I like what I'm hearing about the kid, but I'm not gonna' censor my freedom of speech, to responsibly critique D'Onofrio when HE SUCKS! And trust me, I don't critique D'Onofrio often, but sometimes you gotta call a spade a spade.

LB

"And trust me, I don't critique D'Onofrio often, but sometimes you gotta call a spade a spade."

Yup. And believe me, his friendship with Golden won't save him from the axe if things don't shapen up in a hurry.

how big is this kid? How big is his dad? lol

Spence in HS was 185, Freshman yr at UM 195, Soph YR 207, Jr Year 218, SR year 225 Pro Day 231.

he is only 5'11 he worked hard to put on that weight. Grace is a long 6'1.5 ish he is 208 in HS over 20lbs heavier then Spence was in HS. he will work hard but be a lean 235 smashing guys by his JR year.

Clearing house and UM are an issue with Griffin but he does have a qualifying GPA and Test Scores!!

WWIN

In 2013 a Canespace blogger named WillieWillinNashville landed 4* RB/WR/G Corn Elder that will play football and basketball at The U.

Thank you very much, *taking a bow* *taking a bow*

He's gon be a HUGE surprise for us this year!!! Trust me

LB just think about this, he has two more years left in High school to improve. Ricky is very fast for his size. He can run for a first down when he needs to. I believe ha is a 4.5's. Could BE 4.6 I will check with Rick and let you know. I know he ran for quite a few big first downs when they put a rush on him and the play broke down. He can slide with the best of them.
CaneRock, nothing wrong with critiquing' just don't run it into the ground and get the others going. They sure don't need any help. I can see you know football and appreciate your comments, they are some of the best on this blog. I always look for your comments. Thank you.
I read this blog every day more then once, I just don't comment much. I just hope I can make that 3,000 plus mile trip in June when Ricky comes down. I believe he is bringing some other good players with him.
Do you know the date of the camp. I need to start shuffling my schedule around to make it.

UMike

LOL, THIS!!

UMike

Seems Edouard will stick with Miami as long as they assure him he will play QB

Ohio_Cane

Tyler Horn joining Texans. Happy for him

UMike

And I mean stay and compete at the QB position..not assure him of a starting spot lol

Hassan

Edoaurd can play QB til he signs that LOI hehe

Like Ice Harris boy, insist on playing qb at 5'11 when at CB he would actually be good at 5'11. some kids do not know what is good for them. there is like 3 good 5'11 and under QB's in NFL history, there are countless 5'11 CB's. mmmm where do you have a better chance to succeed?

Ohio_Cane

Daniel Tummeley ‏@DanielTummeley 57s

Congrats to Mike James! He signed a four year contract with the Bucs.

UMike

Hassan..I agree. Harris is a great athlete and would make a good CB and would have a much better shot at making to the next level if that is his goal.

I saw that, too. Sick. Good to hear he slides. #TownCane.

Here is something very interesting that you should all pay attention to. Cutcliffe on coaches choosing the 4 teams in "College Football Playoff" (most inspired name ever). Per ESPN.

"For the most part, we wanted to see conference representation and institutional representation rotated to some degree," Cutcliffe said. "But the biggest item for us is the criteria of selecting those four teams. We want our coaches' poll to matter. In another sense, all the coaches have a vote on the committee, and we think that's good for the game, for the coaches to be good stewards of who's in that national championship picture.

"All of us having a vote, the vote becoming transparent and the vote being conscientiously done. We think we're qualified. We're not watching every game on the East Coast, on the West Coast, but no one else is, either. We see a lot of film of a lot of people. We know who's good, and who's best -- maybe moreso than anybody else is looking at the game."

I agree with this, and this will matter to UM's future postseason health.

LB

All's been quiet on the UM front.

Is it logical to assume that Dallas Crawford and Danny Dillard are #2 and #3 on the tailback depth chart?
