When was th last time the Canes baseball team finished with a losing record in the ACC???

2013 will be the first time.

My commitment to Miami is not strong anymore. It’s getting kind of weak now,” Edouard said Saturday afternoon at the spring jamboree held at FIU. “I’m having concerns and my people are having concerns also. Right now it’s kind of so-so.”

Wow Brian Butler is apparently advising this kid, they will fast this summer and then decide where he will play.

MiamiJoe...welcome to the Space! Post here, post often.

Since i am on the negative trail since yesterday...Which is unusual for me... i have to say that the ex-Gaytor i hate the most is Joakim Noah. Lebron should crush him before the Chicago-Miami series is over. This SOB is very arrogant.

Monty: Other than havng our starting pitchers go all the way, ther seems to be little hope. Second game this weekend where the starters have put us in a position to win only to see the bullpen screw up.
Combine that with subpar hitting (a problem all season long) and a losing ACC record is in the books.

Sorry for the negativity - but it really pains me so see this once proud program in such a sorry state.

Montreal-Cane

Yes we have good starters but that's all we have. David Thompson will be great if he sticks to baseball only.

The baseball program is in total decline since 2009‏

LOL, I've been thinking the same thing Canesteeler... Unless these QBs can be pumped up to about 290lbs and play with their hand in the dirt, let's look to fill some "other" positions of need AG!

roachcane77

Montreal-Cane, didn't I just read somewhere recently that there is absolutely NO HEAT on Morris from our U Admin., and that he has publicly been given a total vote of confidence for his position?

RC i read this but remember the Don said the same about Shannon weeks before he got fired.

I would like big Jim to step down or retire instead of being fired. Coach Morris has done very well with the baseball program until 2008. The last 5 years have been painful...Constant decline...Time fo new blood.

It's all part of the stupid game called "recruiting". Just like a recruit "commits" to his "dream school" (only to change his mind a week or a month later), the coaches make an "offer" to a player and leave him with the impression that "they show me a lot of love" and "I'm going to start right away".
It's like teenagers dating - sometimes it's because they really like someone, sometimes it's because there's no one else around, sometimes it's only good for bragging or annoying your rivals.

"Signing", on the other hand, is months away and a totally different story.

But out of all the 2014 QBs that we're after, I like Edouard better. He has a live arm, and is fast as hell.

Edouard doesn't want Anquan Boldin's career at QB on Greentree in orange and green?

TonyCane

Ah, CaneRock, that means he will be going to Tennessee at the last moment.

You know, Palpatine was a mentor too!

TonyCane

Canesteeler, I'm glad that for once that we have depth at QB. Think about QB depth the last 10 years:

2003: Berlin, Crudup, Wright
2004: Berlin, Crudup, Freeman, Wright
2005: Wright, Freeman
2006: Wright, Freeman
2007: Wright, Freeman, Marve
2008: Marve, Harris, Smith, Cooke
2009: Harris, Highsmith
2010: Harris, Morris, Whipple
2011: Harris, Morris, Whipple
2012: Morris, Williams, Crow, Dewey, Thompson
2013: Morris, Williams, Crow, Dewey, Thompson, Olsen

Wow 2009 was lean Harris-Highsmith

Monty, between you and me, the Habs quick exit has you a little extra saltier than normal at Morris, right?

I have to believe Morris bringing up the split scholarship issue in the press is an attempt to get James to equip him with the same tools his competitors have on that front. They should be so kind as to do so post haste IMO, considering the success he's brought to UM in his time there.

Just thought you'd like to know...

My brother coaches DL at Ocala Forest. He's the only one to stay on staff there with the new regime. Al Golden sent their new HC a personal letter congratulating him as the new HC of Forest and wishing him luck.

The other coaches are Gators and talked smack in a staff meeting. The HC stuck up for Golden and showed them what this []_[] has on the website for coaches and recruits. He showed them they have posted training reps by position. Kind of hushed the crowd and they all were in awe by that.

I would say Al knows what he's doing...

Can't remember Forest meaning much for any length of time in the last 20 years or so, and if I'm not giving them credit due, please let me know otherwise, at least but I point that out as a compliment to Golden that he's ceding no part of the state to anybody on the recruiting trail. He's got a lot of ground to catch up there and time's getting into running a little short to do so.

The Miami Hurricanes received their second multi-homerun game of the weekend, but were unable to capture Sunday's rubber match, falling to homestanding Wake Forest by a final margin of 9-3.

After falling Saturday in walk-off fashion, the Hurricanes (33-20, 12-15 ACC) yielded six runs in the bottom of the eighth to send the Demon Deacons to the series victory. A poorly-fielded bunt from junior Brad Fieger resulted in the go-ahead run, while Wake Forest tacked on four more runs on RBI doubles from Pat Blair and Mark Rhine to clinch the rubber match.

Despite the outcome, some of the youngest Canes continued their impressive stretch at Gene Hooks Field, as freshman slugger David Thompson and sophomore catcher Garrett Kennedy both homered in the loss.

Thompson put Miami ahead on a solo shot in the second inning. The Miami, Fla., native, who also homered in Friday's 8-3 win, lined a 0-1 pitch from Wake Forest starter Matt Pirro over the fence in left to send the Hurricanes to the early 1-0 advantage.

Wake Forest would respond in the third, as Andrew Williams connected for a solo shot of his own off sophomore Andrew Suarez with one out in third. The southpaw worked himself into a jam after the homerun, allowing a walk and double to set up another scoring chance for the Demon Deacons. Suarez did well to avoid any further damage, however, inducing a groundout to third base to end the inning.

Miami regained a one-run advantage in the top of the fifth, and another freshman served as the catalyst. Shortstop Brandon Lopez, who drove in all four of Miami's runs in game two, connected on an infield single to lead off the inning and took second on a sacrifice bunt from Dale Carey. With two outs in the inning, junior second baseman Alex Hernandez roped a ground rule double into the right-center gap that bounced over the outfield wall, plating Lopez for the 2-1 lead.

The Hurricanes' lead quickly evaporated, as Wake Forest responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-2 advantage. Suarez was chased out of the game in the frame, departing after just 4.1 innings. An RBI groundout from Matt Conway off senior rigthhander Eric Whaley gave Wake its first lead of the game.

OGV the early exit was expected with the young players and all the injuries. The Habs will need bigger (talented) players in 2014 to make a better run in the playoffs. I expect a Stanley cup final between the Pens and Chicago. My prediction the Hawks will win the Cup. And yours?

As for Jim Morris i just don't like his excuses...No. 2 Vanderbilt is also a private school...The same with Stanford.

Canesteeler

I am rooting for my hometown Pens!

With the best player in the world and an excellent team, it's great to be a Pens fan.

Do you think Fleury will start in the next series?

orange 'n green in the vein

Monty I haven't watched any NHL playoffs until game six and sevens mostly and haven't watched any western conference games all year. So with that said, Ottawa/San Jose in Bettman's nightmare scenario despite having the crew from the '12 Final series game six do every elimination game with an open line from Toronto in the earpiece to ensure otherwise.

Atlantic division was pretty weak this year and lack of inter-conference play makes it nearly impossible to accurately predict a final winner but I'll go with San Jose as the most recent lockout champs.

In regards to Edouard..I think he is just seeing and reading about these other QB recruits getting offers and might be worried. I cant honestly say IDK anything about any of the QB recruits so i cannot say who is better etc..but Edouard was offered early and is a solid Miami kid who will recruit for us. I think Golden and staff will smooth it over..imo..if not Louisville it will be

UMike

Per CIS

“When I say that my commitment isn’t strong, that doesn’t mean I’m going to decomitt. I want to be a hurricane, its just more that I’ve been getting contacted by a lot of coaches and my head has been spinning.”

Another factor that has weakened his commitment status is the lack of contact with his main recruiter, Coach James Coley.

“I haven’t talked to him often at all, I’ve even tried calling him and he doesn’t answer.”

So, what would it take Miami to make his commitment strong again?
“Just talking to me again, and just make me feel home again; the way I felt when I committed. When I first committed to Miami, they were calling me every week, but now I haven’t heard from them.”

Hopefully he understands that he isnt the only player Miami is recruiting and coaches get busy...I think he will still be in this class

UMike

Although Hialeah’s Alin Edouard is currently committed to Miami, James Coley has been hot on the trail of multiple out of state signal-callers. Malik Rosier of Mobile, Alabama and Brad Kaaya from West Hills, California could be Miami Hurricanes within the next month if everything goes as planned.

In an interview yesterday with CanesInSight’s Tito Benach, Edouard said he hasn’t been speaking to Coach Coley.

“I haven’t talked to him often at all. I’ve even tried calling him and he doesn’t answer.”

Edouard also had this to say, “When I say that my commitment isn’t strong, that doesn’t mean I’m going to de-commit. I want to be a Hurricane, its just more that I’ve been getting contacted by a lot of coaches and my head has been spinning.”

The full story on Edouard can be seen here: http://canesinsight.com/content/1713...ves-the-Latest. As for Kaaya and Rosier, both hold Miami offers and have the ‘Canes on top. Interestingly, both also plan to compete at the June 1st Al Golden Football Camp. Kaaya was on campus back in March and told me last week that Miami was his leader and he plans on announcing in June: http://canesinsight.com/content/1710...ing-next-month

While Kaaya has had his offer since mid-March, Rosier received his offer from Miami last Monday. The night before Rosier was offered by the ‘Canes, this is what he had to say about the possibility of the offer coming.

“It would be hard for me not to commit, but me and my mom talked and she’s one of those people that doesn’t want me to commit until the season because she wants me to see places so she’s not gonna let me commit until actually right before the season starts. Me and Coach Coley talked and I already told him it’s gonna be hard not to take that opportunity. Right now, Miami is my number one so it will be a dream come true if they offer.”

I spoke with Rosier tonight and he had some interesting comments.

“I found out about the offer through Coach Coley and I was excited about the offer. It was a little tough not to commit, but I don't wanna commit too early. I wanna see the campus and feel the environment before committing. I plan on making my choice at the beginning of football season,” said Rosier.

The 6’2”, 210-lb Alabama product will get a look at Miami’s campus on June 1st and that could help seal the deal for the ‘Canes.

The California native Kaaya had some Cane-friendly tweets this week.

DB Arrion Springs update

Info from the Texas 247 site:

Texas is behind Miami and Oregon, Miami at the top because the staff offered after watching HLs, Oregon coming to visit him in a month or so, Miami and Oregon clear leaders, #125th ranked overall prospect and #10 overall CB according to 247, 5-11 192 with elite speed and the skills to play corner or safety, Texas still in it because of facilities, tradition, and the fact they have the most active DBs in the NFL, has a good relationship with Paul Williams, says the future is bright in S FL, will be visiting Miami and Oregon this Summer, doesn't expect too strict of sanctions at either school, some quotes:

“The only way I'm not going to pick Miami or Oregon is if the bowl bans and sanctions are too severe, then I'll see what's out there,” Springs said. “Texas and maybe Oklahoma are the two schools that could change my mind.”

“I actually talked to him the night of the [NFL] draft,” Springs said. “He was telling me what he was doing in New York with Kenny [Vaccaro] and basically just telling me that putting DBs in the NFL is what they do.

“It goes with the whole DBU thing and it lets you know that it's something they take great pride in at Texas.”

“They're trying to get their program back on the map, and the fact that they want me to help is a big honor,” Springs said. “Coach Williams is my type of coach. I like the way Coach Golden and his staff do things. They're doing it the right way. And you really can't go wrong with a city like Miami.”

“They have top of the line facilities and Coach [John] Neal is a great coach,” Springs said. “He's an underrated coach, but he's very good. I like their playing style on defense and it seems like a nice area to live.”

“If it's too bad it could mess up the chances of me going to either school,” Springs said. “Miami has told me it's been quiet but they're anticipating some kind of probation. Oregon might a two-year probation, or something like that, but they said they want to talk to me more in-depth about that later.”
