Per Pete Ariz...

Booker T. Washington DE Chad Thomas has had a great high school career to this point, with two state title appearances, winning the most recent one last season. This year as a senior, he will have a new role as one of the team leaders.

"Spring has been good, stepping up wasn't hard. There's new faces to lead, but we just got to get them apart of the program. I've been focusing on using my hands, they're just important as my quickness so I got to improve in that area as well."

Thomas has consistently maintained that Miami and Florida State were up top for him, but he is trying to play the recruiting process quietly right now.

"There's not really a top anymore, but I'm still liking those schools though."

Something that was previously important to Chad was playing with former teammate and FSU signee Matthew Thomas, whose future with the 'Noles is in limbo as he has requested to be released from his letter of intent. The younger Thomas seems like he would accept playing at a different school than the highly rated linebacker.

"I really didn't think about that, but if we end up in different places, then we've got to do our thing in different organizations."

What does he think will ultimately happen with Matthew?

"I haven't talked to him about that."

Chad, a student at the New World School of Arts, had a musical performance at the James L. Knight center yesterday and received a surprise visit from Miami defensive line coach Jethro Franklin prior to the concert.

"It was cool that he came by and showed love, kind of surprising. He went through a lot to get to me. He was at my school for almost 30-40 minutes."

But this quote is troubling...

Lammons says he won't go with his heart as much as make a business decision when he announces his college choice.

"As I go deeper into the process I have to find the best opportunity, wherever it is," he said. "I want to take that better opportunity."

Will announce on signing day.

Let's get serious, people. Tim Tebow is one of the greatest QBs in the history of the game. If it hadn't been for all that muscle he put on in college, he would have won a gold metal in the 100 M dash in the Olympics. He bench presses almost 700 lbs. and can throw a football over 90 yards. He once saved a twenty-two member family from a raging fire by caring them out of their house ... at the same. Not to even mention that the character Superman is loosely based on Tebow's alien heritage. WHY the Jets didn't give him a shot is beyond me!

Why do you need an excuse when the game is the day BEFORE? lol..Besides 22 isnt a"big" number like 20, 25, 20 etc..its an "off" year lol....are you guys local?

UMike

The latest from the hard working Pete Ariz..

The early bird catches the worm. 2014 South Cobb (Ga.) DE Justin Jones (6’3”, 260) received his first offer from the University of Miami back in early April and the ‘Canes seem to have the upper hand because of it.

“I wasn’t expecting it at all because that was my first offer. I was excited, calling everybody. It’s cool because when that happens, you know you’re about to blow up. But once you go through the process, you can’t just go with the school that just came to you, you have to pick a school that’s been with you. Most schools offer because others offered. I don’t even know how they found out about me,” said Jones.

Two of Miami’s coaches have made an impression on the Georgia standout.

“Coach Jethro (Franklin) and Coach (Micheal) Barrow are recruiting me. They’re cool, laidback, and their coaching style is completely different. You can talk to them about anything and just chill with them.”

Jones will be down in Miami within the next couple weeks to visit.

“I’m planning to go there on June 7th to visit the campus and go to the camp. Miami’s the only visit planned right now and that’s first up. After that, I don’t even know.”

Although Miami is amongst his top group, Jones wouldn't go so far as to say the ‘Canes are his flat-out leader.

“I don’t really have a leader right now, but I’d say they’re in the top 5. Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Wake Forest, and Vandy are there too.”

Jones seems content with the current group recruiting him.

“I think I’m good where I’m at.”

Miami has made a positive impression on Jones’ mother.

“The school part is the biggest thing for her and she loves that about Miami. To have the opportunity to play college football and go to one of the top schools in the country is a blessing.”

Spring practice has been a different experience for Jones this year with college coaches looking on.

“It does affect the way you play because you feel like somebody is always watching you, but you just have to perform like any other day.”

**Jones describes himself as “fast off the edge and always around the ball”
**He hopes to have a decision by the middle of his season

IDK but I do believe someone here on the blog getting info about Stephen morris thinking his Sh** don't stink and that he's very very good and doesn't need to be diving into the playbook and over studying..... don't like either but it was only a matter of time before german teams started being dominant. Their league is built the right way and the rest of europe will have to try and model it or die finacially. Hope Dortmund win, like the forward they have but you have to think it is Bayern's year after hammering Barcelona. Go Canes!

UpNorthCane27

USAF u hit it on the nail bro... German soccer is built correctly and built for success just like Barcelona because of the emphasis on the youth system. German Soccer is also reaping the benefits of having the best economy in Europe.

orange 'n green in the vein

The herb needs to know that former highly touted recruit Delvin is a true junior who was listed last year at 6'5" 282 and they claimed gained 17 pounds between being a freshman backup and sophomore starter, but what he did there I don't recall much of anything off a team that barely qualified for a bowl.

Dyron Dye, the bust that keeps on giving because nobody will just not renew his scholarship at UM in fear he'll have a reason to talk to the NCAA out of anger instead of requirement.

Ah, great to see some soccer talk @ CaneSpace ...

Hope Dortmund can repeat their performance from last year's German cup final, where they beat Bayern 5-2.
This year's final is Bayern vs. VfB Stuttgart, next Saturday. If you don't care about soccer, this is like our Canes facing the Gators in a bowl game. Bayern or the Gators, can't decide which is worse.
Go Canes! (and Go VfB!, of cause.)

Hassan

6'10 with a 92 " wingspan for Brown, the man would have the 2nd biggest wingspan in the NBA right now, almost as big then the 7'2 guy that just was measured at the combine.

403 is a lot of weight, he weight 388 recently at his proday lol

Compare that to guys like Mount Mckinnie who is a legit 6'9 and his peak weight I believe has been nearly 400 lbs. Mckinnie has a 94" wingspan, He best playing weight has been 335-340 in college and in the NFL around 350.

Seantrel is 6'7 and change and has been as heavy as 380 and plays his best around 335. his wingspan is 86 inches as measured in HS could have grown a couple since.

Soup,

I gotta call it as I see it and keep it real...

1. No D....nuff said...the worst in college football last year. The best teams have solid D. Figure 2 seasons to fix this.

2. No Depth at D Line, QB, RB, or LB....anyone out means no experience at that spot. Give Al some time, he'll get this fixed. Just not going to be this year.

3. Florida, Fl State, Va Tech are just better teams....all ranked way ahead of us last year and probably will be this year. Al will also get this fixed...

4. And somewhere along the way we'll stumble and give one away...just the nature of college football. Not much Al can do here.

5. Morris...our season depends on him playing 12 games at his best. A lot to ask of anyone, esp 20 years old...any injury or off day costs us a game.....

6. I'm a realist. I set expectations for us to meet that will lead to success in the years ahead. The great teams of the 80's, and the 2000's were built over the worst of times to become champions. We haven't learned how to "win" yet. Give Al a chance, he'll get us to the promised land.

7. Just because we finish 8-4 doesn't mean we're not a better team than last year. Morris leaves after this season, and our new QB will be who? with how much experience to start the 2014 season? Not even Dorsey won it all his first year.

8. Means 2014 is the load up and get ready season. Experience, depth, talent and coaching will be perfected, new QB comes of age, and the stars will be ready to align. I still say 8-4, but it's a team that's ready to tangle with the best of them. Ya gotta learn the hard way how to win the tough ones.

9. 2015....If Al gets it done we're going to be in the top 10, and with luck it's BCS time.

FYI, I was attending the U back in '72 when they first adopted the "U" logo. I've seen it all.........

For everyone predicting better records, I sure would like to see you be right!

As for the lottery, well I still have my day job....LOL!!

Jim Morris has been destoying the excellent baseball program at UM for the last 5 years. We can be the most positive and supportive Canes fans but this is enough. No longer a fan until the U hires a younger, hungrier, smarter coach who is a great recruiter in this new era of college baseball. What was the total attendance in 2008? How about the last couple of years??? No longer a fan until we get major changes...Life is short, play hard!
