One of the biggest surprises of the Spring for the University of Miami football team was the play of true freshman linebacker Alex Figueroa.
An early enrollee in January, Figueroa was listed as the starting strongside linebacker going into Spring practice due to his performance during the "UTough" off-season workouts under Strength Coach Andreu Swasey.
Weighing in at 6'-3" and 230 pounds, "Figs" as he is affectionately known to his coaches and teammates, is a physically imposing player and aggressive type of linebacker that Miami has been searching for to improve their run defense.
Now, courtesy of Three Penny Films, we want you to meet Miami Hurricanes linebacker Alex Figueroa and how he learned a great deal of discipline from his parents who just happen to have a strong U.S. Marine Corps background:
This season it is expected that Figueroa will be in the starting linebacker rotation at the SAM position along with MLB Raphael Kirby and weakside LB Denzel Perryman in what 'Canes coaches and fans hope will be the latest version of the famed "Bermuda Triangle".
We salute Alex Figueroa and his proud parents. In fact, we just might make that a standard routine (salute) whenever Figs makes a tackle this season. Yeah, we like that, we like that a lot!
We salute Alex and SOUP.

From Nash @ CIS..
The 2015 class in south Florida is filled with tons of talented playmakers such as Shawn Burgess-Becker and Jordan Cronkite. Although, it's safe to say that you can add another to that list.
St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) wide-receiver Devante Peete has proven himself as an elite prospect on the 7-on-7 circuit as well as in spring practice. Peete recently transferred from nearby Blanche Ely High.
At 6-foot-5 180-pounds Devante towers over most everyone on the gridiron. Devante plans on showing off his wide array of skills this Sunday at the first Al Golden football camp of the summer.
Some of Peete's biggest offers are from the likes of Alabama, Florida and Ohio State. But he has yet to receive an offer from Miami.
On Wednesday night Devante tweeted this: "Hopefully gain that Miami offer (Sunday)."
"Well I've liked Miami since I was a kid." Peete said.
Devante said Miami's wide-receiver coach, Brennan Carroll, and himself had a nice conversation during a practice this spring.
"(Carroll) said he can't wait to see me at camp." said Peete.
Some of Devante's strengths are his size, aggressiveness and his explosiveness. He has proven himself to possibly be one of the best 2015 prospects in the state.

Lima (Ohio) Central Catholic four-star safety Darius West reported to 247Sports that he will no longer be announcing his college decision on Thursday.
The 6-foot, 195-pound West was slated to choose from his four finalists, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State and Wisconsin.
"I need to really think about it all and take all my visits to really find the best fit for me, and I think it was just a little too early. I just feel this is best for me."
West is ranked by the 247Composite as the nation's No. 15 safety and No. 211 prospect overall. He added that he's trying to get down to Miami and Ole Miss.
Besides the schools mentioned, other programs to offer West includes Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, N.C. State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Vanderbilt and West Virginia.
As a junior, West registered 45 tackles, five interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Former UM assistant coach Aubrey Hill, who lost his job at the University of Florida last August amid the NCAA's investigation into the Hurricanes football program, has been hired as head coach at Miami Carol City High, school principal JaMarv Dunn said Wednesday night.
"He's the best candidate for the job," Dunn said. "He's the perfect fit. It's in the best interests of the school."
Hill, a Carol City and University of Florida alumnus, was UM's receivers coach from 2008 through 2010 and the Hurricanes' recruiting coordinator in 2010 before leaving for UF, where he served as receivers coach and recruiting coordinator in 2011.
But Hill and UF parted ways days before the 2012 season - a result of Hill being linked to the Nevin Shapiro scandal.
Hill will be appear before the NCAA's infractions committee in mid-June and is among several former UM assistants facing charges of unethical conduct. Several former Hurricanes -- including Jacory Harris, Dyron Dye, Eric Moncur, Randy Phillips and Olivier Vernon -- have written affidavits on his behalf. Dye disputed the NCAA's allegation that Hill "arranged for Shapiro to pay for bowling, beverages and meals" at Lucky Strikes on Miami Beach.
Dunn said he spoke to Hill about the NCAA matter "but I didn't have any concerns. I reviewed it with district personnel. He's entitled to due process."
Hill, 41, was a receiver for the Gators from 1991 to 1994. Besides UM and UF, he also has worked as an assistant coach at Duke, Elon and Pittsburgh.

Crabtree: Who's ready for summer camp?: The team camp season underrated -- but important -- part of recruiting cycle http://es.pn/14aKtfz
SHHHHHHH...DON'T TELL OGV!
Posted by: SOUP | May 30, 2013 at 01:10 PM
The spring evaluation period -- one of the most critical times of the recruiting cycle -- wraps up on Friday, and focus shifts to team camps, when college coaches will invite to campus the prospects they are most interested in seeing work out.
Like shaving, the team camp season is one of the most overlooked, but important, parts of the process for high school prospects and college staffs. For recruits, team camps aren't the ones in which you sit around a fire and learn to tie knots. Simply put, they're tryouts. Recruiters from every part of the country can tell tales about upper-tier players they wanted to offer scholarships to, but the recruits failed to understand their purpose at camp and didn't perform at their highest levels.
"Camp is a great opportunity to coach prospects and find out what kind of character, work ethic and toughness they have in person," one Big Ten recruiting coordinator said. "If they can't look significantly better than the guys that just show up because they're there to have fun, then maybe they're not the right guy for us."

“Of all the teams that I was around down there, I think the best of all of them was the ’86 team that lost to Penn State,” Tuberville recalls of the undefeated team that lost 14-10 in the 1987 Fiesta Bowl to the Nittany Lions. “That season, we were awesome.”
“We lost the national championship to Penn State in 1986 and by my count, 35 of those players went on to play in the NFL,” Tuberville added. “We had 19 starters that left that year … for most programs that’s devastating.
The next year we go 12-0, nobody even comes close to beating us,” he says with a chuckle, reflecting on the 1987 team that went on to win the school’s second national championship. The Hurricanes won their third title in 1991.

Radziewski, who was also selected to the 2013 All-ACC First Team, ended the regular season rated among the conference leaders in nearly every statistical category. The Miami, Fla., native ranks second in ERA (1.49), tied for third in wins (nine), tied for second in complete games (two), third in strikeouts (101) and first in batting average against (.174).

Ohio,
I don't care who's coaching the baseball team, they CAN'T HIT!!! They Too, need some serious influx of talent. I know they lost 5 kids to the draft and they keep barking about an unfair advantage because of the cost of tuition to go to Miami but I believe it's always been this way.The Herb says, Somebody needs to evaluate the dam evaluators Of who's doing the recruiting. 2-2, this weekend, is all I can see.
