Miami Hurricanes' sophomore lefthander Chris Diaz was among the 46 players named semifinalists for the inaugural Gregg Olson Award, honoring college baseball's "Breakout Player of the Year."

Diaz ended the regular season ranked among the conference leaders in a number of key statistical categories, including ERA (1.58, second) and innings pitched (96.2, second). The Florida City, Fla., native, who has delivered 12 quality starts in 14 opportunities, held hitters to a .253 average and surrendered just one homerun this season. The southpaw walked just 18 batters on the year, tied for the fewest among Miami's regular starters, and struck out 63.

As a freshman with the Hurricanes in 2012, Diaz made just two starts, recording a 4.18 ERA in 32.1 innings of work. But after being awarded the role of Friday night starter prior to the team's opening series against Rutgers, Diaz finished the year tied for the conference lead in starts (14) and recorded a 2.01 ERA during conference competition.

Diaz was one of six players from the Atlantic Coast Conference to be named semifinalists, joining Garrett Boulware (Clemson), Devin Burke (Virginia Tech), Mike Papi (Virginia), Scott Sitz (Florida State) and Cody Stubbs (North Carolina).

Barry Jackson:

### Hialeah coach Marc Berman said UM offensive coordinator James Coley came to campus to assure quarterback/2014 UM oral commitment Alain Edouard “that they want him.” But Edouard – whose 25-plus offers include Wisconsin and Nebraska – “will re-assess where he is at the end of spring,” Berman said. “If UM has other quarterbacks in mind and doesn't make him feel at home, he’ll take up other opportunities. If UM is offering more than a couple quarterbacks, [what] does that say for him?”

Besides an oral commitment from California’s Brad Kaaya, UM has offers out to multiple other Class of 2014 quarterbacks, including Louisiana’s Donovan Isom and Alabama’s Malik Rosier.

UM is competing with schools from non-major conferences for both; Isom's offers are from South Alabama, Louisiana Tech and Tulane; Rosier's include Arkansas State, Western Kentucky and Southern Mississippi, among others that are comparable. Both like the Hurricanes, and UM believes both have gone under the radar. Remember, Al Golden encourages his assistants to make independent assessments of players, rather than relying on recruiting services to drive their decisions.

Can anyone tell me why Thurston Armbrister is a junior? He played on the scout team his freshman year and saw no game action.I would think he would be a redshirt soph.

From listening to a guest on Chad Wilson's show (LOL), there's a lot of talent on the WC this year. I also heard Snoop and Nate Dogg's kids are legit prospects.

CaneRock

Also, the guest said He used to coach at Inglewood HS. And He said that Brad Kaaya's team whooped the dog snot out of em'. Said Kaaya is the REAL DEAL HOLYFIELD!

Unfortunately for us Heat fans, Spoelstr a doesn't realize that his best 5 is Cole, James, Wade, Bosh & Anderson...

The Dude

Wow, LBJ!!!

Hear win, Pens win!! What a Wednesday!

The Dude

Heat cant expect to win like that. Less standing around, more movement without the ball.
