UM center Shane McDermott is one of 44 players named to the 2013 Rimington Trophy spring watch list. The award is presented annually to the nation's top collegiate center.

McDermott, a junior, missed spring practice after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery.

An All-ACC honorable mention selection in 2012 by league coaches, McDermott started all 12 games at center for UM. UM had the ACC's third-best passing offense (295.4-yards-per-game average) and fifth-best total offense (440.2). As a redshirt freshman in 2011, he played in 10 games, allowing no sacks and not being flagged for any penalties.

McDermott is from Lake Worth. He was awarded the Walter Kichefski Endowed Football Scholarship at the most recent UM Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet. He will earn his bachelor's degree this summer.

McDermott's younger brother (I won't say "little'' brother as he's 6-6 and approaching 300 pounds), Kc McDermott, has already pledged his commitment to UM for the Class of 2014, a huge get for the Canes.
Kc is a four-star lineman, according to Rivals.com, and is listed as the 40th best player overall, regardless of position. He is listed as the fifth best tackle in the Class of 2014.

Notre Dame also wanted Kc, and actually still wants him, but Kc said he's not budging from his commitment to the Hurricanes.

Just Back From Jerome Brown's hometown.

What did I miss?

Miami Hurricanes junior center Shane McDermott is one of 44 players named to the 2013 Rimington Trophy spring watch list, released by the trophy’s selection committee. The award is presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate center in NCAA Division I FBS.

McDermott is one of five ACC centers on the list, joined by Russell Bodine (North Carolina), Jay Finch (Georgia Tech), Macky MacPherson (Syracuse) and Bryan Stork (Florida State).

An All-ACC honorable mention selection in 2012 by the league coaches, McDermott started all 12 games at center for the Hurricanes. He anchored the offensive line that paved the way for the ACC’s third-best passing offense (295.4) and fifth-best total offense (440.2). As a redshirt freshman in 2011, he saw action in 10 games, allowing no sacks and registering zero penalties on the season.

The Lake Worth, Fla., native was awarded the Walter Kichefski Endowed Football Scholarship at the 2013 UM Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet and he will graduate this summer with his bachelor’s degree.

Miami’s Brett Romberg won the Rimington Trophy in 2002 after contributing the Miami’s 34-game winning streak from 2000-2002. He never allowed a sack at center and led an offensive line that helped produce three 1,000-yard rushers – James Jackson, Clinton Portis and Willis McGahee.

Great article Roach, I love reading about " The Legend"

Dem Canes!!!

SOUP, whats your schedule, I may be off for a couple of days?

Native...schedule is not good this week. Next week almost any day is MUCH better. Who would have ever thought that connecting to go fishing was so hard to do? LOL

BREAKING: Weather service confirms tornado that hit Moore, Okla., was a top-of-the-scale EF-5.

Notable quotes:

“One of my dad’s work friends, he has been a Miami fan forever and he suggested [I camp there] so I went down and checked it out. I really liked what I saw from them. Great area, great coaches, Coach (Al) Golden is awesome. It’s a great coaching staff so I really liked them.”

Heh, I think I know who that friend is... props to Harry.

#24 - Dalvin Cook
#42 - Joseph Yearby

In the previous rankings, when Yearby was committed to FSU, he was rated a couple spots ABOVE Cook. Now that Yearby is a Cane he dropped well BELOW Cook.

Scout has Yearby at #25 overall and Cook at #71.

Scout has Yearby at #4 RB and Cook at #11 RB.

Yearby is a better runner and Cook has better straight-line speed. I would like the Canes to get them both, but I prefer Yearby as a RB at this point in their development.

Heh, I think I know who that friend is... props to Harry.

Terrance Sullivan

Great article Roach.

Thanks everyone... but, the article basically wrote itself. Kehoe was just a storehouse of knowledge and info... I'm sure I could have kept him there for a few hours and never heard the end of the stories he could share.

Like I said at the end. After he left I thought of at least 10 more questions I "should" have asked, but it was cool all the same to have him there one-on-one.

Thanks to SOUP for editing the piece and adding the pics. And of course thanks to SOUP, and ALL OF YOU for this great site!

Sorry Now Drinkn all the TownJuice yet...kid is young and he may be a winner not knocking him but lets let him grow up before we bet the house on the kid. Alin Eduard has lots of pop on the ball and for a naysayers who say he is too short all to most reports I've seen say 6'1-3 that is short? But All in All Im glad to see positivity rising amongst the ranks and the less negativity the better Its All About the U not U....no more I Me My Guys ... only U guys from here out and Golden is doing a GREAT Job of Picking them out the fray...s/o to GoodGuys Here @ CaneSpace I Brag All The Time About U Guys here in Oklahoma....thnx for your prayers and all as well from someone that lives here its bad but don't worry it's all gon get better again thanx for your prayers and SWOOSH SWOOSH

Harry Miller

Ricky Town #3 in overall #1 QB Enjoy If it posts.

Harry Miller

Spoke To Rick Sr. A little while ago, Major Applewhite from Texas visited with Ricky for about 3 or 4 hours today. They want him to commit our coaches better stay on Ricky. Rick thinks Miami is easing off because of Kaaya, they better get with it. I did tell him no way Miami is easing off they still want him badly. I told him again there is no better place to win a NC than at Miami if you want to be the greatest QB in the land.

@P_Ariz3: FULL STORY: 4-star WR Rudolph apologetic towards Miami: http://t.co/nCzBJapo7j #Canes back up top.

Thanks for the post harry miller. Nice recruiting plug also. Hope ricky town comes down to the u

Roach...it was a pleasure!

Can u elaborate?

Gators suck, Canes rule.

That is all.

Our coaches better not sleep on Town!! Must get!

“I feel like I have to apologize to the Miami program because a certain website took my words out of quotes and the main reason I wanted to de-commit from Miami is because I wanted to be neutral going through the process. I felt like I had committed too early and I wanted to be patient with it,” said Rudolph.

Rudolph had more to say about the situation with Miami.

“I saw the reports or whatever and I said man that’s not me who would down talk any coach, especially since I think highly of Coach Golden and the rest of the staff. That wasn’t my intention to bad mouth me and my dad really got on me about it so that’s why I wanted to address the issue. Like I said, it’s nothing bad about Miami. I just wanted to go through the process being neutral. They’re still one of my top schools.”

Also, addressed issue with coaches of him being recruited as an "athlete" instead of strictly WR. Canes now recruiting him as WR.

Parents won't interfere with his decision. Wants him to make right choice for him and stick with it

Thanks Ohio. Do we have a legitimate shot with Vanderdoes?
