Herb, all due respect, but U need to go look at the DT's we have committed. Stuckey and Jenkins. They're not scrubs. Also, more help is on the way. Trust.

SOUP

Blackhawks beat Bruins for The Cup.

Pittsburgh nowhere in sight? LOL

SOUP

Another commit?

Jw

Really, Soup? Any idea who?

herbieibis

Ohio,
Didn't say they were scrubs. Stucky is the kind of size we need up front but I see where Jenkins is a midget size 6'1. I don't see us running no 3/4 defense where we need a nose guard, which most are wide bodies 6'1 or 2 and I've heard that trust me stuff before. I'm sure someone was saying trust me on Clarke & Moten too but I guess we are going to have to beg & plead to get them away from the Turds. The Herb is tired of us getting left at the alter at the DT position. Yes there are a few more gems to be had and it's quit possible to flip someone but this position has been killing us and something has got to change. I ain't blaming DeNo just yet because he hasn't had to many pieces to work with and yes his schemmes do sometime suk but we need help on that side, agree?

Ohio_Cane

DB Ryan Mayes from MNW has apparently committed. Waitin for Carrol confirmation.

hassan

Bat signal

Ohio_Cane

Yep, Carroll confirmed. DB Ryan Mayes. He'll blow up this year. We got a steal at corner

UMike

Pete Ariz doin what he does..

Miami’s hot recruiting weekend stretched into the early part of this week, as late Monday night the ‘Canes added a commitment from 2014 Miami Northwestern DB Ryan Mayes (6’2”, 190). Mayes received the offer tonight after competing at camp on Sunday and committed on the spot.

“They gave me the offer tonight and asked me how I would feel about being a ‘Cane. I told them I really liked the suggestion and I was very interested in the school and that it was a strong school that my mother was interested in me going too because she’s been a ‘Canes fan and I’ve been a ‘Canes fan since I was a young boy,” said Mayes.

Although the offer was a surprise to Mayes, he knew it wasn’t out of the question.

“To be honest, it was a surprise, but I knew if I worked hard enough and I showed my talents that it was a possibility that I would get an offer so I just went out there and played to the best of my abilities.”

Why did the Northwestern product feel like Miami was the best fit for him?

“This is a school that I’ve been praising since I was knee-high and the other part of it is that the education is really great and it’s a private school where the graduation rate is positive, and it’s close to home.”

Something Mayes does not lack is confidence on the field.

“I’m very confident in my skills. If I tell myself before the game that I will go out there and make a play, I will strive to the best of my abilities to make it happen. If that includes me telling myself that I will be physical with whoever I’m guarding and I will not allow a catch then I will go out on the field and prove that to myself as a self-goal.”

Even with his confidence, Mayes does not want to let this commitment get to his head and will continue to stay focused.

“As far as spotlight is concerned, I really don’t pay attention to it and I just work hard and stay humble and do what I have to do to make my mom proud and make something of my life. I play football for the joy of it. I don’t do it for the spotlight or to feed into the media.”

**Mayes sees himself playing cornerback at the next level

UMike

Is it possible this "mystery commit" is Fadol Brown?

4-Real

U can bet the mystery committ ain't a well known dt UMike. We don't seem to care 4 those types.

UMike

lol 4-Real...People said we will know this week or know Friday and he is "announcing" Friday..so it could be him lol...I still think we get 2 well known DT's in this class. We will get 2 out of Valentine, Johnson and Holley. I also think Clark is still VERY much in play

LB

More defensive help. Awesome. I'll take it.
-----
"K.C. Jones of ESPN is picking the Canes as the ACC sleeper pick. Seems there are higher expectations among national media for the Canes in 2013. I guess they are starting to figure out what we on the space already know."

Sleeper pick? That's hilarious. I guess #17 and #8 are simply surprises. Though in their defense, it's been a few years since UM has been BCS relevant.

Despite my yelling about the defense, this team has a REALLY high ceiling. It's a good team, and has every opportunity to be a very good team. Even improving to a top 75 defense would nab us a 10 win season. And if we have a freshman or two to significantly contribute, then we're going to have some depth (hopefully on the DL and LB).

I'm not completely sold on UM winning the ACC. But they'd surely be more successful in BCS games than the annual suckfest of FSU, Va. Tech, and the rest. If there's anyone who can beat significant competition in the BCS games, it's UM.

And no, Cincinnati and Northern Illinois do not count as significant competition.

LB

Oh, and UM is 3-1 in BCS games.

FSU? 2-5. Va. Tech? 1-5. One of those games was against each other (FSU won).

Va. Tech's win came against Cincinnati. FSU's came against the aforementioned Va. Tech and the mighty Huskies of Northern Illinois.

By the way, FSU and Va. Tech aren't that much of a draw. Recently, it's less so.

FSU averages 12.7 and Va. Tech 8.8.

Minus the 2000 title game loss, Va. Tech's ratings? 7.4, 5.41, 6.8, and 7.1. FSU's Northern Illinois victory? 6.1.

And if you think the ACC doesn't want UM to succeed, think again. The national title game is getting consistently above a 15. The last time the ACC got above a 10 was 2006 (FSU loses vs. Penn State, 12.2).

By the way, UM's BCS games averaged 13.3.

UM is consistently a high draw, among the highest in the country (even during the Randy Shannon suck years).

Imagine the ratings of a reborn UM, given the recent mess...

...go Canes.

IraqiCane

Man, the commitments keep coming! Welcome to the U Mr. Mayes

Ohio_Cane

We now have 17 commits for 2014. Ya, it's June of 2013.

Minimum of 8 'Ships left, and maybe 11-12 still available with a few EE's.

UMike

Look like Edouard might stick after all..he just tweeted about how crazy the 2014 UM class is looking and it cant wait..

UpNorthCane27

You gotta love with Al Golden and Co. are doing right now. They are finding under the radar ballers that will urn into gems. This new commit just on measurable and his film looks like he can play..

now if we can finish with 2 good dt's, Lane and Dixon that'll be sweet!!!

Mia Chi 'Cane '98

Blackhawks baby! City of Chicago going crazy this AM. Cup back home in Sweet Home Chicago!

UpNorthCane27

What a heartbreaking way to end the season for my Bruins....SMDH we go from being on top to losing the series in 17 seconds....

UpNorthCane27

More like Alin Edouard can't wait to play us because I don't see that Bi-polar ass kid sticking at all loll

Ohio_Cane

UpNorth, the funny thing is, is these "under the radar" guys will most likely blow up during their senior years and then get changed to 3-5* kids. Funny how that works.

Also, assuming U meant 2 MORE good DT's? Cuz we have 2 atm. I'd prefer 3 more DT's, tbh.

------------------------------------

Mia Chi'Cane - Wow, did the Bruins blow it. That was the worst collapse I've seen in pro sports. Way worse than Spurs/Heat Game 6. I mean 2 goals in 17 seconds to lose the Cup, at home? Sheesh

UMike

UpNorth..I think Lane is out of the question and will end up at Bama. I like our chances with Dixson and still believe Jojo Robinson will flip.

CaneRock

Posted by: UpNorthCane | June 25, 2013 at 10:21 AM

LMAO! Like I said, the kid is an awesome talent, but as far as His lip game goes, He needs to STFU! sometimes. When you're runnin' ya' mouth off to the Miami Herald about Coley PMing you on FB, then I don't know how your future coaches and team-mates can trust you with sensitive information. He's liable to get His $hit split runnin' off at the mouth like that...Adewale Ojomo style!

UMike

per Tito..

Alin Edouard Update

Just exhanged text with him and he wanted me to tell you guys this "Let the canes fans know I ain't going nowhere! I'm here to stay."

So I followed it up by asking if this makes his commitment 100% and he said "YES SIR"

Mia Chi 'Cane '98

Ohio... A story book ending to a story book season! If you are a Blackhawks fan it was one hell of ending. If you are a Bruins fan it was a nightmare...

I think the game 6 of Spurs/Heat was more of a collapse. Spurs were 10 secs from winning championship. Bruins would have forced a game 7.

Brevardcane

So what's the remaining needs??
DT - 2
DE/LB - 1
RB - 1
OL - 1
WR - 2

Ohio_Cane

Brevard, I'm at lunch so I can look further later, but your LB is off. We DEF need more than 1. Prob 2 at least

UMike

Brevard..Im sure we will go over 25 since we had EE's last cycle

Canesfan_1

Just a friendly suggestion here.

How about a little less banging on AE on this board. I don't know what's more immature, the words of a 16-17 year old high school junior or the obsessive criticism of an underage athlete by grown men. I know which one is borderline creepy. Also, it sure seems like some of you are cheering and hoping for him to decommit. There is no guarantee that Olsen or Kayaa pan out, keep that in mind. Talking about a jaw break: SMFH

As a parent, if I saw this as representative of the fan base, I'd be having second thoughts. Except then I'd realize its just a bunch of "stay at home" fans that don't even show up to games.

Ohio_Cane

Canesfan_1, for clarification, I don't WANT him to decommit. Just seems as though he will. Didn't know if U were talking about me or not, but figured I'd respond regardless.

When a kid is always talking about other schools that are recruiting him hard and showing him "lots of love", it's one of the two. Maybe he just likes the spotlight that much, which is fine with me.

They pretty much all do that Ohio. Sometimes they don't think things through. They're KIDS. I don't see anything wrong with it. But people hoping he decommits or gets his jaw broken: NOT SMART

So what if a kid mentions some other school showed him love. Who cares. Well, apparently it gets some gown ass men all bent out of shape.

AMEN

Ohio_Cane

1. or gets his jaw broken: NOT SMART

2. So what if a kid mentions some other school showed him love. Who cares.

Posted by: Canesfan_1 | June 25, 2013 at 12:02 PM
------------------------------------------

1. Did someone really say that? Lol

2. Well, to be frank, fans care. They see a QB, which is a position of leadership, talking about other schools even though he's committed to lead their favorite team to greatness.

For the record, I don't care at all, and want him to be in this class. Him, Kaaya, and Olsen can push each other to be great.

I'm just saying from what I've seen in the past, it means they may be looking for another team to sign with.

FWIW, it could be him just showing appreciation for that particular school for recruiting him and making him feel wanted/needed, which is fine as well.

Ohio_Cane

Is it possible this "mystery commit" is Fadol Brown?

Posted by: UMike | June 25, 2013 at 07:23 AM
----------------------------------------

No. The "mystery" guy is a 5th year senior.

I think it's Ryne Giddins: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Ryne-Giddins-64247

Canesfan_1

Go ahead then and feel free fret and to manage his online behavior from your keyboard.

I was just making an observation as to the difference between supposedly mature adults and not quite mature teenagers, and if you read the posts pull see the jaw references.

Good article about roster and scholarships

How did my observation from some things he's said turn into me "managing his online behavior"? People speak, I listen.

I understand the observation, and can only speak for myself, which is what I was doing.

Oh, and I wasn't doubting U, just surprised I missed a "broken jaw" reference. Which, by the way, I don't like if it was said. Regardless of who it's about.

UMike

I dont think CaneRocl was hoping he should get his jaw broken..but basically saying "snitches get stitches" lol

Ohio_Cane

Could've handled it like this as well:

Jeremy Crabtree ESPN ‏@jeremycrabtree 18m

How you handle w/ class -> RT @_DW75: This is for anyone who is question how solid I am to Purdue. #ThisIsOurPurdue pic.twitter.com/9LemiGoKSD

CaneRock

Ohio_Cane, I'm the one that made the reference to Him gettin' His jaw broke. Feel free to delete it if you want.

Canesfan_1, I stand by what I said, the kid needs to pipe it down. He didn't make a good first impression, to the guys who are in the locker room NOW!, by going public about something that should've been kept discreet. You don't think the guys presently at UM read what He said. If He's with the U, then BE WITH THE U! If He's teetering on His decision, then open things back up and do ya' thing.

Lol

UMike

I'm with you CaneRock..besides most of these kids come from areas where your taught to keep your mouth shut..I know I did..it is one thing to talk about another school showing love..that is normal with todays recruiting..but to let out inside info all because u werent getting the "love" you thought you were suppose to is another story. And besides CaneRock NEVER said he thought his jaw should be broke..he is saying that things like that can lead to a jaw being broken lol

Canesfan_1

Fine. Just keep banging on him. It's your right to say it. I think it's counterproductive and petty.

I think it's bizarre and absurd. I mean a 16 year old kid, saying something stupid to get attention. What a shock. Wasn't a smart thing to do, but to obsess about it months after the fact: strange.

To be fair, he did it again yesterday. Also, no one here is "obsessing" about it.
