ESPN recently updated and released their Top 300 player list for the 2014 recruiting class. Upon quick review, here is what we found out about the class of 2014 players verbally committed to the Miami Hurricanes:
- UM has a total of 6 players verbally commited that are on the ESPN Top 300 players list.
- Three of the players are ranked in the top 150 at #20, #45, #133.
- Three players are ranked between 151-300 at #216, #253, #289.
- Miami's highest ranked players are RB Yearby (#20), OT McDermott (#45) and OT Darling (#133).
- Miami also has OT Reilly Gibbons (#216), QB Brad Kaaya (#253) and WR Darrell Langham (#289) on the list.
With Miami in desperate need of some "big uglies" in the middle of the defensive line we payed special attention to that position in the Top 300 list. Here is what we found in our brief review of that list:
- There are a total of 23 defensive tackles in the ESPN top 300 players.
- Eleven of the DTs are listed in the top 150 and twelve are ranked between 151 and 300.
- Of the 23 DT's on the list only 8 are currently verbally committed, with UF and FSU having one each respectively. UM has none.
- Only 4 of the 23 defensive tackles on the Top 300 list are from the State of Florida.
- UF has a verbal from #167 DT Anthony Moten from Fort Lauderdale and FSU has a verbal from #209 DT Demarcus Christmas from Bradenton.
- Miami is thought to be the leading school for both #147 DT Kahiri Clark from Hollywood and #150 DT Travonte Valentine from Palm Bay. In case you didn't notice, both players are ranked higher than the players that verbally committed to UF (#167) and FSU (#209).
- In addition, according to ESPN, Miami has offers out to Top 150 DTs #3 Andrew Brown from VA, #85 Thomas Holley from NY and #108 Garrald McDowell from LA.
In addition, we found out that ESPN reviewed just 1,000 players to get to their Top 300 rankings. With an estimated 1 million high school football players in the U.S. we found that fact very interesting. Based on this fact it is clear that there are still many diamonds left to be found in the rough.
Furthermore, there were a total of 13 players that garnered the coveted five-star rating, up from 11 during the first evaluation period. And, among the top 300 players, it was not surprising that Florida had the most players on the list at 51, followed by Texas with 35, then California and Georgia with 29.

Everyone knows everything I post here is found on the internet. I don't claim to be seeing or talking to these kids personally.
Except for a few recruiting details that I'm in contact with a couple guys through email for a little inside stuff, I search and find all my info.

There are plenty of folks that claim to be in the know that actually get all their info from paysites. That's the point of the personal email.

“Sheldon is a great compliment to recent signee Angel Rodriguez,” Larrañaga said. “These two will sit out and be prepared to play in the 2014-15 season, joining Tonye Jekiri’s class, which will give us three juniors a year from now. This will balance our classes and will give us upperclassmen with lots of experience.”

Let's go heat! Yes we can win the next two!
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | June 18, 2013 at 05:33 PM
The Canes football team will have an excellent season(minimum 10 wins). They will have at the most to give up 5 scholarships for 3 years for a total of 15... The NCAA mess will be behind us in early august 2013 and Al Golden will have a top 10 recruiting class for 2014 despite the reduction...
Vault it!
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | June 18, 2013 at 05:45 PM
Losing that many scholarships will be painful.

Not at all.
Very manageable. We've been operating under similar numbers for a while.
Posted by: Canesfan_1 | June 18, 2013 at 07:00 PM
I agree with canesfan_1, very manageable with 15 scholarships lost......I still think it will be 9 scholarships over 3 years (3 per year).

Posted by: 2002nemo
Not necessarily. Based on the roster composition the next two classes would be relatively small anyway, right?

Miami deserved to lose this series with the effort they've shown thuse far. They believed that they had a switch they could flip so they didn't have to give effort in game 1 and 5. Spo should lose his job for their lack of effort. The refs really are so bad its unwatchable.
