With this most recent commitment, Al is throwing these recruiting "experts" for a loop with all these "NRs", and WHODAFUQISDATS!...LMAO!

CaneRock..he will be a 3-Star before the weekend is over lol

Golden's evaluation skills better be on point. If not, we'll be mediocre for years to come. Ijs

There IT is right there.
I have no reason to doubt him YET, but either he is smarter than everybody else, which may be possible, or we could be in trouble. Look I as much as anybody fully understand that there are a few diamonds in the rough but they are not ALL in the rough, are they?
Posted by: SOUP | June 28, 2013 at 04:48 PM
I'm not going to knock our commits or the process in which we got them. We won titles with the same formula in the past. Ijs that even though the recruiting sites aren't perfect, they are better then they were when we were finding hidden gems back in the day. Talented players aren't overlooked as much anymore. So the diamonds in the rough are at a premium. As of now, we have quite a few commits that would have to turn out to be hidden gems. We're going to need a few more high profilers for this class to be considered upgrade worthy. Jmo
Posted by: CoCane | June 28, 2013 at 04:59 PM
Yeah SOUP. We're on the same page bruh...
Posted by: CoCane | June 28, 2013 at 05:01 PM
Yeah but in this case he isn't a diamond in the rough PER SE, it's that he's a total unknown. They have his spring tape. We don't. Nobody else does. Many of the other kids (Herndon, Turner, etc.) quality as possible diamonds but are more likely than not if we're to be honest wind up as just plain Carbon.
But I know you guys weren't just referencing Demetrius Jackson.
On the other hand, we were out in the lead on Kaaya, Lammons, Rudolph, and now they've blown up so far as to push for top spots in the country at their respective position (Lane didn't do himself any favors with the bored effort up north in that competition the other week). So I'll reserve judgment.
Posted by: Felipe | June 28, 2013 at 05:24 PM
*not that he isn't a diamond in the rough, but he's also a total unknown altogether right now is what I should've said. He could have natural ability and Freeney style in-the-paint spin moves all we know.

Good posts. I agree 100%.

If you could choose that one Hurricane would have an all american year (not a QB) who would it be?

TRUE!
And I'll add this...we had the inherent advantage of location, and familiarity, as far as "finding those hidden gems back in the day." The recruiting market is pretty much flat now.
But I agree 100%..."the diamonds in the rough are at a premium."

Do we know if he attended the camp? If so then I'd feel better about this pickup.. Otherwise I'm thinking this is to help with chad and Nigel?

Interesting, Demetrius Jackson committed to Arkansas last week:
"He said he has offers from Arkansas and FIU and had committed to the Razorbacks last week, but the school didn’t accept his oral commitment because he hadn’t visited the campus yet."

Randy Shannon tried to snatch Jackson under the radar from down here. Bet he's pissed

Ohio_Cane, any idea how many kids we're gonna sign next year?
The 2008 class was pretty big, but I don't recall us having this many in June.

Good article by Larry Blustein:
UM attracts recruits with Al Golden’s football camps

I'm thinking even if Miami fails to meet its expectations next year, Al should get another year or two depending on who is available. The culture he is building seems to be the right one. Imagine how successful these camps will make Miami when players have gone through them for a few years. Also I don't think Al will settle for only the ACC. He wants BCS games. I don't think even D'Onofrio can stand in his way. If the D sucks, I think Mark is gone after the year. May be painful to watch though.

Leaving The Florida Keys, headed back to the mainland and reality. Great event last night at the Ocean View Pub in Islamorada. Ray Lewis, Warren Sapp, Danny Stubbs, Bennie Blades, Chris Myers, KC Jones and many, many more were on hand. Heck even the five National Championship Rings and Gino Torretta's Heisman Trophy was there!
Photos and info to follow much later when I get home to the CCC.

TJL, that's not much punishment lol riding around with UF police. Quite a catch and release program they have

Per Tito Benach, he just interviewed Cook at the Nike 7 on 7 this morning, and Cook now says there is 40% chance that he signs with someone other than the gators. I know it's been said before, but I think that the importance of the Florida game cannot be overstated for the Canes moving forward.
Posted by: Semper Fi Cane | June 29, 2013 at 11:33 AM
IT WOULD BE HUGE WHEN THE CANES BEAT THE GATORS
Posted by: canezilla | June 29, 2013 at 01:11 PM
Couple things....Hernandez is an idiot...first he went to FL to play for Greasy Urban Myer, 2nd why would anybody want to own a Glock? They suck!!! Check out a Para Warthog.....small compact solid accurate concealable .45 all metal, unreal weapon....pricy but great I own 2 they are the deal!!!
The kid from FL gets a break...who cares if he is a FL player? Wouldn't it be great to see a bouncer step up do his job just once and give one of these smart ass UF kids a real ass kicking they would never forget? I mean stomp their AZZ...
U mike thanks for the posts about athletes in the counties....very good reading.

U guys remember 4-star lb & former gaytor committ turned Kentucky committ James Hearns? He just de-committed to Louisville & will be apart of the 2013 class. Meanwhile we recently picked up a track kid with no football offers, all because he's Sony Michel's backup. Les Miles just landed a stud db from florida yesterday by the name of John Battle who hlds offers from the likes of Florida, FSU, Ohio St etc...Kid had interest in Miami but our staff apparently didn't have much interest in him. And some of u wonder why we're running from LSU & signing up 4 home-n-homes with Arkansas st & Toledo :(
Posted by: 4-Real | June 29, 2013 at 03:39 PM
4-R:
There may be many reasons that the U might not be interested in players with offers from FU, OSU and FSU. Guys who appear to have "shady" enough backgrounds, have poor chances to qualify academically, etc. There was an article in the PB Post this week going over how coaches like Urban shouldn't be blamed for players like Hernandez, and spoke of how rival fans make fun of these situations. However, there is truth to coaches being willing to completely overlook criminal mentalities on a routine basis when you have as many arrests of UF players as has taken place since Urban's watch began, while being continued with WM since. It allows more great players to be part of the team, but there is risk involved, and Donna is trying to avoid having more of this kind of exposure. If you have a kid paying tuition at the U and paying for the athletes to go for free, you might not like seeing kids getting in who really are not even remotely resembling functional members of society and have no respect for other human beings.

Spoke with #FSU commit JoJo Robinson. Said the opportunity to play with Jameis Winston is keeping him committed. #Canes have strong chance

#Canes basketball player DeAndre Burnett is out here supporting his brother Dalvin Cook

JoJo Robinson has arrived with a UHealth backpack. Again, take it for what it’s worth.

Yearby also added he believes there is an “80% chance” Dalvin Cook flips to Miami. Take that for what it’s worth #Canes #UF

Just talked to Joe Yearby. I asked him about Sony and Dalvin and he said “Canes fans, y’all don’t gotta worry. I’m a Cane.” #Canes
