Empowering youth. Giving back to the community. Deserve Victory. These are just a few of the values of the University of Miami football program and the core of head coach Al Golden's "Deserve Victory with the Miami Hurricanes".
Come join the 2013 Miami Hurricanes football student-athletes and select staff members as they travel to Suniland and Charles Hadley parks in Miami, Betty T. Ferguson Park in Miami Gardens and Mitchell Moore Park in Pompano Beach to interact with the local youth. This interaction will include instruction on the basic fundamentals of football and the safety that is required to play the game. They will also be made aware of the importance of nutrition and the new academic policies recently adopted by the NCAA.
Each Deserve Victory! event will run two hours with UM players taking the participating youth through a series of football exercises from stretching and agility to position-specific drills to the basics of the game. The activities will conclude with an autograph and photo session.
A complete list of event dates is below. For more information of Deserve Victory! with the Miami Hurricanes, please contact Assistant Director of Football Operations Eric Vance at 305-284-6883.

By the way Buckhead is kinda lame compared to when you were probably up here. From what I hear the club scene from a few years ago is gone now. It's all condo's and restaurants now. It's still fun, just not debaucherous!

Yeah, I am talking 10 years ago back in the glory dayz of Buckhead. Good times!

In case anyone missed 2014 WR Darrell Langham's info. Be impressed with Golden getting this kid early. Will be blowing up soon.
Size-Strength-Speed This player is flying way under the radar. Big, long and fast, he is one of the few big guys in this class who can run, is flexible and fluid. His speed is football fast, especially given his size.
Separation Skills Explodes off the ball and eats cushion in a hurry. For a young player he has some natural route-running instincts. Is conscious of spacing and steps and attacks alignment. Can close the gap and run by defenders.
Ball Skills Is a very natural pass catcher with big, strong hands. Attacks the football and makes plays in a crowd. Will win most contested matchups in the red zone. His size and speed combination makes him a threat down the sideline as well as after a catch. Shows very good body control and concentration on the over-the-shoulder ball. Adjusts well to poorly-thrown balls and has a wide catching radius.
Big Play Ability Gets up field immediately after that catch and if he catches a seam, he will win a lot of foot races. Has some shake and wiggle to avoid and extends plays. Is tough to tackle and is slippery.
Bottom Line Langham clearly has physical tools, but also has lapses catching the football consistently. Will make the spectacular grab look routine and drop the easy ones. Must be more consistent with focus. Might burst onto the scene during the summer and as a senior. Impressive playmaker.
Oh, and he's 6'5, 205. Ya.

Here's the report on Greg Dent's sexual assault arrest. Update coming soon (h/t @Warchant_DC) http://vmedia.rivals.com/uploads/1061/1410461.pdf …
And, as a warning for anyone who hasn't read it yet, the report is graphic. So proceed with caution.

I've been away for a while. My wife and I had an incident in which we were forced to evacuate our home temporarily.
We're okay now.
On a personal note: be sure to hug the people you care about today. You never know if it's your last day on earth. No joke. All seriousness.
I'm glad to see we possibly added yet another defensive player to our roster. Not that pre-NSD matters (save #TownCane), but the momentum is out there.
Also, it's a bit of a relief to know that more offers have been extended to defensive players than offensive ones.
Posted by: LB | June 10, 2013 at 10:52 AM
LB..The staff is on the trail of a lot of defensive players...and top players at that..but many are waiting to commit..I think the wins/losses and how our D looks this year will go a LONG way in determining who we get..for offensive players its a no brainier lol
Posted by: UMike | June 10, 2013 at 10:57 AM
BTW...4-Star Safety Arrion Springs says Miami is no longer in his top 3..like I said before..was fun while it lasted lol

"how our D looks this year will go a LONG way in determining who we get..for offensive players its a no brainier lol"
Even a 2012 Mark D'Onofrio defense shouldn't stop this team from winning at least 9 games and outright winning the coastal. Even the slightest improvement in pass rush is going to make a difference with the schedule of creampuffs we have.

Sexual assault is a horrible crime and no means no under any circumstance.
The facts of this case though are troubling. The girl (sounds like same age as Dent) fixes him dinner, goes out clubbing with him, gets in bed with him, she rebuffs his first attempt and STILL gets back in bed with him for him to make another attempt. Then all hell breaks loose.
Now again, no is no, and you have to stand down when a woman says no, and you never attack the victim, but dpsomebidy needs to teach this young lady about situational awareness and the urges of drunk young men. Assuming she's telling the truth.

Read it. Shocked.
And I agree with Canesfan_1 here. Something just does not sound right about this case. They were friends forever, he had met and knew her parents, she had loaned him her car, they had slept in the same bed together on previous occasions, etc.
I TOTALLY understand she said NO, and I know that NO means NO, but the situation she put herself in was NOT wise or smart. Still, if he did what was alleged, it was beyond WAY wrong, and if true, it is very criminal.
Still, it is just shocking that they could go from being long time "friends" and then he would do that to her in the manner described (if that is what happened) and that she would then report it and basically end his life.
If the facts are true then apparently he went from being young and drunk and hoping for "friends with benefits" to going to jail for 20 years for rape in the blink of an eye.
Talk about everything can change in a "New York Minute".

Umike I wouldn't be surprised if you see a trend with top 100 athletes not signing letters on signing day. There's no reason for a top recruit to sign unless he is 100% sure he wants to play for a school. The kid at FSU and the kid that left ND for UCLA are two prime examples.
They can wait till June and any team in the country is still going to make room for them before the season starts. SI.com ran a story the other day basically stating that the LOI's are so lopsided to the schools favor that a top kid should not sign them.
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | June 10, 2013 at 12:22 PM
Sarasota..that may be true..but first the trend of getting on TV of NSD will have to pass lol

Here is every team’s record in the BCS era, an imperfect way to judge the strength of a program (I don’t think anyone would argue that Virginia Tech is 12 spots better than North Carolina right now), but it’s a good historical look anyway.
Records since 1998
•1. Virginia Tech — 148-48
•2. Miami — 130-57
•3. Florida State — 127-56
•4. Louisville — 122-65
•5. Georgia Tech — 120-73
•6. Clemson — 115-74
•7. Boston College — 113-75
•8. Pittsburgh — 101-83
•9. N.C. State — 102-84
•10. Virginia — 97-88
•11. Wake Forest — 85-96
•12. Syracuse — 82-99
•13. North Carolina — 70-96
•14. Duke — 38-137
Using those records, the teams with the easiest fixed opponents would be North Carolina (N.C. State, Duke, Virginia), Boston College (Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia) and Duke (Miami, North Carolina, Wake Forest). The hardest are Florida State (Clemson, Miami, N.C. State), Georgia Tech (Clemson, Miami, N.C. State) and Clemson (Florida State, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest).

Soup one of the things being tossed around that I like is playing the ACC CG on the home field of the school with the best record. It makes sense. ACC fans are not going to drive 10-12 hours to watch these teams play and then turn around and fly off to a bowl game 3 weeks later.
The reason the SEC CG works in Atlanta in my opinion is all of the schools are within 2-4 hours of Atlanta with the exception of the two new schools Tx A&M and Mizz.
If you play a game of that magnitude on campus while school is still in session then you are going to have a sellout every time.
Go 'canes!

Sota...I agree with that home game idea for ACC title game but ATL would be good for ACC as well, no?

Works for me! Especially since they are about to build a "Jerry's World" caliber stadium here next year. I am also looking out the window right now at the new College Football Hall of Fame which will be open next year adjacent to Centennial Park right here in downtown.
They have really made this area into a sports mecca with all of the facilities, hotels, and restaurants. Now if they could just get rid of the crime...

Austell (Ga.) South Cobb High School DL Justin Jones watched good friend Juwon Young commit during a Miami visit the pair took over the weekend.
And while Jones didn't follow suit, he says UM is now in very good shape with him.
