This summer more than 700 youth will be on the University of Miami campus for the 2013 Jim Larrañaga Basketball Camps, held at the Fieldhouse on the Coral Gables campus.
With two weeks of instruction nearly complete, UM coaches, players and staff will hold four more weeks of summer camps, all of which are sold out.
“Coach Larrañaga and his staff did such an amazing job of winning the ACC regular season and tournament championships that the camps sold out in less than 10 hours after we posted the dates,” said Adam Fisher , director of camps and recently hired director of basketball operations.
“The success he has had here at Miami both on and off the court can be seen in the community, and they come out and support the camps. That’s the reason it’s sold out.”
Campers receive daily individual instruction, game play, all-you-can-eat lunch, unlimited sports drinks, a camp t-shirt and a camp basketball. In addition, there are tremendous guest lecturers, many awards given with each age group and a championship series played on the final day.
“It’s great that our student-athletes come and coach these camps because the kids look up to them – they are their heroes,” added Fisher. “To be able to see Rion Brown or Angel Rodriguez at camp, and be coached by them and learn from them, means so much to the kids. The Miami student-athletes are teaching the young campers skills on the court, but also teaching them to have a great attitude, to come every day, work hard and want to get better.”
Although I don't think there would be much "media" coverage of a FIU transfer who would be part of the 2013 class lol

He's not the FIU transfer, but I get what you're saying. I don't know exactly what he meant, maybe Hassan will elaborate.

The thing I don't get about the Hernandez investigation is why he would smash his phone and video equipment. The hard drive data from the video recorder is likely still intact and the info they would want from his phone is still stored on the phone company servers.

One note on scallop preparation:
Err on the side of undercooking. Take the scallops off the grill before they’re opaque all the way through. If you undercook a scallop, it will still be delicious. If you overcook a scallop, it will get rubbery and you may get sad.
Don't get sad.

You do not have to be a 5 star recruit to get a lot of sites and people calling you, and for one kid 10 calls might be "a lot" so everyone is different, this young man is humble and just likes to play ball, does not like to talk to outsiders and people he does not trust.

Congrats to all you Heat fans....Miami college football is average, pro even worse.....but The Heat are for real.
I am not a huge hoops fan, but I watch the NCAA tournament and NBA playoffs with interest. Football you know is my passion.
I say to all the Heat haters you are way off. Lebron was awesome. That man does not quit, he lays it on the line. I love his confidence, he does not make excuses or blame others, he plays team ball and he wants to win!!! D Wade took the step back as the face, yet he still plays for the team. He played banged up, on the floor and has so much heart. Bosh may not be Shaq, but he made some big plays and smart moves when he had to. The rebound to Allen was so smart, the block and the intimidation on the Ginobli play were smart b ball. Allen hit some big 3s. Mike Miller shuttle of the ball to LJ was critical in 6, as well as his points, hell he did it without a shoe!!! He hustles and plays hard. Shane B. never complains comes in and rains 3s. Crazy Birdman hustles like hell, scraps and battles gets points and boards. Haslem battles and Chalmers hits big shots at crucial times. Juwan Howard is a great presence.....(my fav of the otherwise foolish Fab 5...those other guys are jerks) he should be a good coach if he retires. These guys are a team....they are a sum of the parts and so many guys do little things that really count. My hats off to the TEAM concept they show....and ES is a pretty good coach who gets all the blame and no credit, is quiet and humble....a winner. I have taught my game like this for 35 years as my superiors taught me. TEAM = Together Everyone Achieves Mightily...it really works and I am impressed with The Heat TEAM!!!!! Hope some of you went and got to party!!!

Andy Kershaw has been named the head coach of the University of Miami swimming program, Director of Athletics Blake James announced Friday.
“I want to thank Blake and [Senior Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator] Jennifer Strawley for giving me this opportunity,” Kershaw said. “It has been obvious during this process that they are building a great department that is motivated to provide a great experience for the student-athletes, alumni and fans. While they are determined to succeed at the highest level, it is apparent that their dedication to the Miami student-athletes goes far beyond the athletic arena.”
Kershaw joins the Hurricanes after spending the past 10 years with Southern Methodist University. After seven years as an assistant coach, Kershaw served as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for his final three seasons with the Mustangs.
“We are excited that Andy has decided to join the Hurricane family,” James said. “Based on his prior coaching experience, both on the collegiate and international stage with U.S. Swimming, we think we have found the perfect person to continue to raise our program among the nation’s elite.”
In addition to his work at SMU, Kershaw has been a force for U.S. Swimming as head manager. He served in the role for the 2012 Summer Olympics (London), the 2011 World Championships (Shanghai), the 2010 Pan Pacific Games (Irvine, Calif.) and the 2009 Duel in the Pool (Manchester, U.K.). Prior to his time with U.S. Swimming, he served as an assistant coach for the Slovenian national swimming team from 2004-06.
“I think he is an incredible person,” said Teri McKeever, who served as head coach of the U.S. women’s swimming team for the London Olympics. “He is very people-oriented, a great communicator, proactive and very driven. Andy is committed to the sport and to developing young people.”
During his time at SMU, Kershaw coached 79 NCAA All-Americans and helped the Mustangs finish in the top 25 in the country six times. The Mustangs had six Conference USA Swimmers of the Year and 35 NCAA Academic All-Americans under his watch. In 2012, Kershaw was recognized as Honorable Mention NCAA Assistant Coach of the Year bycollegeswimming.com.
“I am eager to work with the women that make up the Miami swimming program, and partner with Coach Randy Ableman to build on the tradition of success that has been established at The U,” Kershaw said. “We will be focused on extending that success at both the NCAA and the ACC levels.”
