University of Miami basketball coach Jim Larrañaga has announced the hiring of Adam Fisher as Director of Basketball Operations for the Hurricanes.
Fisher comes to Miami after spending two seasons at Penn State. Promoted to Director of Player Development in 2012, Fisher served as video coordinator in his first season upon returning to his alma mater in 2011.
"Adam Fisher came highly recommended. He is smart, organized and self-disciplined," said Larrañaga. "He has experience at both the mid major and high major level. We are counting on him to fill the big shoes left by Mike Summey, who was a very popular and productive member of our staff."
Fisher served the previous two seasons as director of basketball operations at Boston University, helping the Terriers to back-to-back 21-win seasons and post-season appearances both years. The Terriers went 21-14 in 2010-11, winning the America East Conference Championship and advancing to their first NCAA Tournament since 2002. The Terriers also went 21-14 in 2009-10 and earned a CBI tournament berth, reaching the semifinals.
Fisher worked as a graduate manager for Villanova from 2007-09, while working on his master's degree in education leadership, which he earned in 2009. Fisher worked under two-time Big East Coach of the Year Jay Wright at Villanova, serving as an assistant recruiting coordinator while helping in film exchange with opponents and conference members. During his time at Villanova, the Wildcats reached the Sweet 16 in 2008 and then won the East Regional in 2009 to advance to the Final Four with a school-record 30 wins.
At Villanova, Fisher also assisted the director of basketball operations and worked as the assistant camp coordinator in the summers of 2007 and 2008. When Wright was named the head coach of the 2007 U.S. Pan America team, Fisher assisted him and the squad with various duties during tryouts and the preliminary rounds.
The Jamison, Pa., native graduated from Penn State with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in 2006. Fisher worked for three seasons as head student manager and then one season as a graduate manager. He assisted with player workouts, handled administrative duties and helped with team travel.
During the summer, Fisher was the camp director for Penn State basketball camps.
Fisher replaces Mike Summey, who was recently hired as the associate head coach at Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania.
OGV, I absolutely agree. PSU was infinitely worse.

I'm not so much worried about the offense as I am the defense. How many scholarships are available after this year?
I see four offensive linemen (it seems there will be five), one tailback, two quarterbacks (the Hialeah one won't stick), and a JUCO DT.
They need at least two more defensive tackles (Porter and Robinson both graduate), a defensive end or two (we lose S. Green; that will matter), and four linebackers (Gaines leaves, Perryman could declare) to even scratch the surface of depth. We're thin at defensive tackle, and paper thin at linebacker.
Tyriq McCord is not a linebacker, no matter how smoothly it's presented to us.
I absolutely don't fault Golden for injuries and moronic defections. But we've got to get some help. 2013 is absolutely set up as a double-digit win year. But when Morris leaves and we have to break in a new starter, our defense will have to be able to stand.
On another note: good to see that Olsen's incident is a non-issue. Curious, who do you think takes Morris's starting spot? Williams? Olsen? Crow?
---------------
"a kid like Holly is blowing up now and although we were on him early, those up north kids are hard to pull"
I don't know about that. AQM, Olsen, & Edwards were highly rated at their positions. Did we lose out on anyone from that region that we targeted in 2013?
Posted by: LB | June 06, 2013 at 08:39 AM
LB...AQM a fight and isn't the norm, and Olsen had family ties. Edwards had like 3 offers lol....
I do think we get 2 DT's, Betwwen Holly, Valentine, Clark and some JUCO's we should get at least 2 in addition to Stuckey. I think we pickup DE's Mike Smith and Bronson and perhaps Chad Thomas.
As for LB's were pursing Richard Yeargin III and Vincent Jackson and I dont think we get either..so as of right now I dont know if we get any LB's in this class.
All IMO of course lol

AQM was a fight***

"LB...AQM a fight and isn't the norm, and Olsen had family ties. Edwards had like 3 offers lol...."
Still, we got the #1 fullback in the country and Olsen went through the entire gambit before choosing us. Oh, and if AQM puts on the right weight... he could absolutely help us year one.
Hooray for defense.

We do have an offer to Dillon Bates a 4-Star OLB from Ponte Vedra
Posted by: UMike | June 06, 2013 at 08:53 AM
South Florida is thin on LB's this year.
Posted by: UMike | June 06, 2013 at 08:56 AM
LB..I agree with some..Edwards was the #1 fullback, but our only competition was from FSU who came in late,he wasn't exactly being chased by the big schools. Olsen may have played the field SOME, but he committed 9 months before NSD and I think everyone knew he was a Cane. Now AQM was a great steal for out staff, and I think our staff is doing well in the North (hell in the South and West too lol)...but this Holley kid all of a sudden is a 4-Star and ranked the 4th best by Rivals and has offers from every big time school including the SEC schools. I just THINK, he will be a hard steel since he isn't a sleeper any more.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was Tyre Brady (WR) or Kevin Bronson (DE)
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | June 06, 2013 at 09:39 AM
Vincent Jackson i think
the two players were defensive, the MVP was a defensive player also, they give MVP's for each position at the camps
Posted by: Hassan | June 06, 2013 at 09:40 AM
Might be Bronson..or Brady is my pick

UMike, I just hope it's defense. Don't care what position. Obviously DT would be best, but any D I'll take.

We just offered him recently. I'm guessing it's him.

The dude is throwing up the U on his Twitter wearing Duke's jersey. If so, awesome. Load up on the defensive tackles.
He's also from Olsen's hometown.
Posted by: LB | June 06, 2013 at 10:31 AM
The herb will say, 'he's barely above smurf size at 6'3", isn't a top flight prospect at this time, but will take what he can get at this point,' I predict.

Herb, here's our new DT.

He's a defensive tackle. At this point, I could care less if he's a zero star or if he's offered by Blockbuster.
Posted by: LB | June 06, 2013 at 10:39 AM
Here's Paranos' article on him from a month or 2 ago.
2014 NT Courtel Jenkins 6'2" 320lbs from NJ as UM Prospect
2014 NT Courtel Jenkins 6'2" 320lbs from St. Anthony (Jersey City, NJ) is a naturally strong big body that is cat quick in a phone both, which is what you want from NT in a read and react system.
Jenkins doesn't come from a High School with a very developed S&C so future development will be key as he may be raw in that department, but again he has incredible functional strength on the field. His 40yd times are unimpressive to say the least but what is impressive is his initial burst which is what NT needs in that 5 - 10 yd LOS area. He is strong at holding the point of attack but also is equally adapt with disengaging from OL's using various moves. He has quick violent hands which is true equalizer when facing a stronger appoint in the trenches, this should allow him to win a few early battles in college against older players. But I am thinking a red-shirt year would do wonders for this young or Early Enrollment in order to go through a college S&C and spring practice.
Some have questioned St. Anthony's competition and lack of resources, in 4 years they have won 27 games but only beaten 2 teams with winning records. They have lost 3 of 4 playoff games by a score 112-20 and supposedly the playoff team they beat had a 2-7 record. But you can't penalize Jenkins to much for lack of competition because he dominates at camps, winning the 2012 NUC Camp DL MVP the state of New Jersey.
Jenkins currently holds 1 offer from Pitt and several schools have been heavily recruiting him but want him to camp on campus first or wait for SR season evaluations. Some heavy hitters have been down to see him such as - Michigan, Ohio State, Rutgers, Pitt, Florida State, and he has spoken to a couple of Alabama coaches. An that was from his sophomore year going into his JR year, an BAMA doesn't leave the south for their big boys unless they see something special.
Jenkins has a strong interest in UM, and considering his favorite player is RAY LEWIS and before every game he plays a video of Ray Lewis, I would say he would be a cane lock if offered by UM. I am hoping UM picks up their recruit of this Young New Jersey manchild to include him a DT class of Clark, Moten, and Jenkins would be a good haul of kids.
Go Canes

I'm unsure if this has been covered, but McDermott wants to graduate early.
In other news, Susan's article about Kevin Olsen made no mention of Seantrel Henderson. Trouble in paradise? Maybe Soup could ask her what's up. Su-trel has one year to go before graduation, and we need the romance to continue. The symbol on Henry Cavill's costume isn't "an S," it's hope.
Our hope comes from the love between Susan and Seantrel. I'll start a prayer group for the happy couple if anyone's interested. Ohio, you in?
