After enduring more than two years of what can only be considered cruel and unusual punishment at the hands of the NCAA, fans of the Miami Hurricanes just want to know: When will this on-going NCAA nightmare finally end?
After investigating itself for misconduct, and taking what seems like forever to conclude its bungled investigation into alleged violations by former University of Miami coaches and players, the NCAA is now prepared to move into the final penalty phase of this long running saga.
UM president Donna Shalala and her legal team are set to appear before the NCAA Committee on Infractions on Thursday in Indianapolis to try to bring closure to the situation and remove the proverbial black cloud that has hovered over the UM Athletic Department for over two years now.
By comparison, it appears that Mississippi State, an SEC school, got off easy. Kyle Kensing, editor and founder of SaturdayBlitz.com, wrote this recently about the two NCAA investigations at MSU and UM:
Programs that avoid substantial sanctions automatically draw comparisons to USC, which was given a two-year bowl ban and lost 15 scholarships over a three-year period. The scholarship limitations had a profound impact on USC’s underwhelming 2012 performance.
Schools such as MSU and North Carolina, involved in investigations with somewhat similar backgrounds as the NCAA’s look into USC — assistant coaches allegedly involved in rule-breaking — can cite their compliance. Former Trojan athletic director Mike Garrett was notoriously defiant during the NCAA’s excruciatingly long investigation.
However, compliance does not explain why the Miami Hurricanes investigation has dragged for as long, or been as rancorous as it is. Miami’s two-year, self-imposed bowl ban has done nothing to either lengthen the NCAA’s leash on the program, nor has it expedited the process. Miami has been under the NCAA microscope for over two years. Conversely, the Mississippi State investigation began prior to last season and wrapped up in a little over nine months.
Not only has the NCAA shown little interest in expediting Miami’s case for the program to move forward, the organization has gone to great lengths to build a case that might be lacking. The NCAA is being sued on allegations of coercion.
So now we are left to wonder why the Miami investigation dragged on for so long, why Miami self-imposed so many major penalties on its own, and just what will come of the hearings set for this week.
There remain questions about the credibility of the witnesses and participants in the case and the NCAA's apparent misconduct that led to its own internal investigation of conduct of its employees. However, when it comes down to it all Miami Hurricane fans really want to know is:
When is this NCAA nightmare going to end?

It pays to be in the SEC! The only positive action THE U got was when NCAA messed with Haith(SEC bb coach) approaching March Madness. Suddenly NCAA was falling all over itself confessing screwups. Then the toture tools came back out. SEC rules the NCAA. The rest of the schools sholuld pull out and start new organization to regulate themselves and leave SEC and NCAA to their incest.

The father of Florida State incoming freshman linebacker Matthew Thomas said Monday night that his son wants to attend USC.
"He made a decision for himself. It's USC," Billy Thomas said.
According to Billy Thomas, Matthew Thomas' mother said on signing day that she would not sign paperwork for him to attend USC but would for the Seminoles.
Matthew Thomas could not be reached. Billy said Matthew's mother -- whom he said he is not together with -- is out of the country.
A separate source said Matthew Thomas has not clearly told Florida State that he will not attend there, and that family conflict and outside influences are affecting the situation.
Thomas, 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, was rated as ESPN's top linebacker prospect this year and the No. 6 player overall.
If Thomas, a Florida native, were to enroll at USC and not receive a release from Florida State or the National Letter of Intent group, he could follow in the path of signee Eddie Vanderdoes, who recently switched from Notre Dame to UCLA.
Vanderdoes is giving up one of his four total years of playing eligibility and also sitting out his freshman year as penalty for breaking his commitment.
"No disrespect to Florida State but Matthew is willing to take the punishment if there is one," Billy Thomas said. "He's hoping Jimbo will let him go."

2016 receiver Sam Bruce Jr. was one of the many speedy and talented players at the Al Golden football camp on Sunday. Bruce shined along with some other prospects in the multiple receiver drills they were performing.
“It was a good experience, I had a good time out there competing with exceptional players. I got to meet all the coaches and the staff at the university of Miami, got a good chance to have a good conversation with the coaches.”
Bruce Jr. spent a lot of his time at the camp not only showing off his tremendous skills but also speaking with coaches Brennan Carroll, Paul Williams and Al Golden.
“They’re just all about coming to Miami, I like that. They were up front with what they wanted. I also spent a lot of my time with the receivers coach, coach Carroll. I got to build a really good relationship with him.”
The University school product had a great performance at the camp, which led to him landing an offer from the hometown hurricanes.
“It’s a school that I liked growing up. I was just really pleased with the effort I gave which landed me the offer.”
While Bruce Jr. didn’t win Camp MVP for receiver’s, he did win another significant award.
“I got the fastest man award, there’s some really fast players out there. I really didn’t plan on winning that but it felt great that I came out on top.”
The 5’8 160 pound receiver rated his camp experience a “10 out of 10”
“it was definitely a ten; I like the atmosphere, I like how it’s close to home and hope to look more into the school.”
Prior to offering Bruce Jr. had an already high interest in the hurricanes, now that they have offered the interest is increasing rapidly.
“They’ve moved up a lot , it’s really teeter-tottering between FSU and Miami right now. Luckily, I have three years to make a decision.”
Another aspect that catches the speedy receivers attention is Miami’s sports medicine program.
“Yeah, they have a great sports medicine program. I’m going to look into that, as well as a great sports broadcasting program.”

2014 Booker T. Washington CB Nigel Patten is no stranger to the University of Miami, as the rising senior has been on campus multiple times and has been to many games as well. On Sunday, the talented prospect took in the Al Golden Football Camp and was given a tour by the head coach himself.
“The experience was nice. Coach Golden showed me around the whole campus and the new facilities so it was nice. I saw a few guys like Chris Lammons and Tyre Brady. I know Tyre likes Miami a lot and it looks like Chris likes them too. Coach Golden wants me to commit,” said Patten.
What his Patten’s impression of the new Schwartz Center?
“That was my first time seeing the new building. It caught my eye because it shows Miami is more than just a small campus and they’re getting things on the right track with the football team and the school.”
Patten admits the Miami coaches have been on him heavily over the past few months.
“The coaches talk to me everyday and I’m the number one corner on their board. That’s all Coach Barrow and Coach Williams talk about with me. It means a lot because I never expected it and didn’t see it happening for myself.”
The two-sport star (track) does not have a solid decision date set yet, but is planning on discussing things soon.
“I said the summer, but I really don’t know for sure. I’m going to meet with Coach Ice and my dad and then I’ll pretty much go from there.”
The Booker T. corner has a busy summer ahead.
“I’m trying to get up to Tennessee. I’ll be at UCF, UF, and FSU.”
Patten lists having heavy interest in 5 schools right now: Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas Tech, Miami, and FSU

Matt Elam has called out Florida wide receivers coach Joker Phillips. No, not the Elam who was the most active defensive player last season and was selected in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens.
Elam, a 4-star defensive tackle in the 2014 recruiting class (247Sports), has decided to share his feelings on the Gators coach via his Twitter account.
The first tweet should catch your attention:
Swear Im Done With Joker Phillips Haha Not To Be Rude Or Anything But I Cant Do It
— Matt Elam™ (@FballIsLife69) June 9, 2013
Considering Phillips is the one recruiting the young man, this isn't a terrific sign. If a player truly doesn't like the guy he is in contact with, the school might as well give up and move on to the next guy. However, Elam wasn't done with calling the first-year assistant coach out in front of his 3,000-plus Twitter followers.
Great Dude But I Just Feel Disrespected And I Still Like The School But Just Not Real High On Joker
— Matt Elam™ (@FballIsLife69) June 9, 2013
Disrespected? Did something happen that we should know about? If the nail wasn't in the coffin already, this is a clear sign Florida isn't too high on the defensive lineman's list at the moment. Sure, he made mention that he still likes the school, but players always end up picking the place where they feel most comfortable. Elam has made it perfectly clear that isn't the case with the Gators.

The NCAA is an organization ungoverned. It's an organization high on reactivity and low on logic. Such is an equation for disaster.
That being said, the NCAA is absolutely guilty in the court of public opinion. UM is one of the most hated programs in the country (jealousy), and Emmert and the rest of the crew have an even lower opinion rating.
Hell, they've got less love than Congress. They also have nothing to lose. If they can drag this out, they will. If they can make life harder, they will. The NCAA is a stubborn child, and they'll take their toys home.
Only when an outside body governs the NCAA's actions will they change.
But I concur that UM will probably receive no other penalties. Shalala simply has too much political clout and Golden's tie is simply too powerful.

LB..I disagree about the last part. IMO..the NCAA doesn't want to just "let UM off"...Maybe nothing stiff, no bowl bans, but there will be something imo

True fandom is a mindset, buy not the only one when it comes to sports and entertainment.
It's like going to the theater these days. There are those who go and sit in silence out of respect for the performers, the other audiences members and the experience itself. On the other end, there are for whom it is just something else to be consumed. They talk, tweet, and if they don't like it, they walk out. There's no emotional investment.
It's the same with sports. You go, you cheer, you support the players whether it's out of respect and identification with the home team or even the sport itself. Or you go, you watch and if you don't like what's happening, you walk out.

Did Donovan Kirk choose Miami or CSU to play hoops next year? I thought he was choosing soon.
Also, have not heard or seen anything probably since last year, but are the 'Canes getting new football uni's this year? It was mentioned at the start of last years season but have not heard a peep since.

+1. These true fan statements lower my IQ.
Posted by: LB | June 11, 2013 at 10:14 AM
Everyone has their own opinion of what a "true fan" is lol..for me personally, being a fan, going to a game etc should have nothing to do with wins or loses. My local high school team is pretty average, but the stadium is full every Friday during the season, and I am there to support them and watch no matter what. BUT..fans also have the right to criticize their teams and not go to watch them get beat all the time...still a fan lol

Here's something that hasn't been touched:
There is a database by 247 that "ranks" recruiters. It's influenced by the rankings of players, but it can give you a sense of where UM stacks up.
Coley: #15 (#2, ACC)
Kehoe: #18 (#3, ACC)
Barrow: #35 (#5, ACC)
Franklin: #80 (#15, ACC)
Carroll: #141 (#28, ACC)
http://247sports.com/Season/2014-Football/CompositeCoachRankings
Posted by: LB | June 11, 2013 at 10:24 AM
LB..I think Carroll is a little low on that list imo
Posted by: UMike | June 11, 2013 at 10:25 AM
Those rankings go by only the kid's "main recruiter" that's listed.
A lot of times the kid commits because of a different coach that's also recruiting him but isn't the "main" guy.

RCCF, I think it was Six that said it, but Miami just doesn't have enough current and former alumni to fill up the stadium on consistent basis. WE ARE NOT A STATE SCHOOL! like FSU or UF, or like OU as you mentioned. As for the rest, FYI, the biggest employment sector in Miami Dade County, is HOSPITALITY! So guess what, the people that can go to your games, ARE AT WORK! I get SO SICK! of folks saying we're "bandwagoners" down here, we just ain't got the time, money, or energy for BS!

No bandwagon here. Been a cane since '72, seen the best and worst of times.
Predicting 8-4 for this season, but if they finish better or worse I'll still be a fan come the following season.
UM doesn't have the student population size, on campus stadium or local alumni support to rival places like Michigan or Ohio State. It's a private school, with much of the student population from out of state.
But in the 80's and 2000's guess who's merchandise everyone was wanting or wearing....

Are ppl bandwagoning then? and I didn't say CaneBandwagoning I used the bandwagoning to tie in how Miami fans are percieved as given per the Heat nation NOT True Fans at all....but I do undstnd the restraints that hold the attendance back wht can be done to solve it?
I have never seen the campus with my eyes personally and that day will be glorious when I do I just wish everyone could be naive and believe EVERY Year is Our Year..
if U were a coach would U preach to the kids we lookn to be 9-3 or 8-4 because tht is respectable and U have a team full of Veterans returning and an Offense tht will score on anyone...Be Serious Guys 9-3 Not Cool 8-4 Not Cool...U call it be being Real I and the 12% Call it Not Cool..

Ohio, Phil Steele is still the best out there, but he has a blind spot for FSU. He had them #1 last year and maybe with the talent they lost in the draft they should have been, but I think he vastly overrates their coaching staff and QB. If you look at the rest of his top 10 surprise teams, I think 1-6 are real reaches. Maybe that's his point, but I just don't see any of them doing much.

And think about it, those probation years had a REAL! negative impact on Miami. The talent in Miami was bananas at that time. Now Butch brought talent here regardless, but imagine what an Unrestrained Butch Davis could've done on the recruiting trail.
Imagine the damage an Unrestrained Miami could've done in CFB.
Imagine how many fans we could've gained during that time.

This will make things interesting:
UM football recruit Walter Tucker flashes speed at Great Southwest Classic
Miami Hurricanes football coach Al Golden went into last weekend pondering whether Plantation American Heritage speedster Walter Tucker will make a bigger impact as a linebacker with great lateral movement or a bruising running back with breakaway speed.
Tucker might have swung the pendulum toward toting the football by winning the 110 meters hurdles and leading the Team Florida 400-meter relay team to a nation-leading 40.11 seconds at the Great Southwest Classic in New Mexico on Saturday.
Tucker, who signed with Miami on Monday morning, said getting the green light from Golden to continue his track career at Miami played a big role in picking the Hurricanes over Clemson, Tennessee and Georgia.
“Miami said they would let me play football and run track,’’ Tucuker said. “When coach Golden told me that I had the biggest smile on my face. That is when I knew I could make my decision.”
