These rankings change so much during the season! Kaaya for example, who is listed at 200, will probably move up since the Elite 11 staff selected him this month. Canes recruiters are smart in chasing down underrated players.

Posted by: UMike | June 10, 2013 at 06:20 AM

Give 'em all a ribbon! I'm sure we'll lose a few of these recruits but the fact that they are willing to sign on the spot tells me that the message is good. We picked up three in June while Richt probably lost three here in Georgia this month. Once UM moves past the NCAA nonsense then Al should be able to recruit on par with any team in the country.

5-Star Challenge Update

WR Ermon Lane says he is wide open. His mother is going to play a HUGE role in his final selection. Will visit Alabama in July. Lane also mentioned that Barrow is a small factor because Barrow is always around his family.

- WR Travis Rudolph is wide open. He says everything regarding position at Miami is cleared up now. They want him strictly as a receiver and that there is no more DB talk.

Looks like 2016 ATH Chauncey "CJ" Gardner from Cocoa HS also committed yesterday..now who says Golden and staff dont get on them early? lol

That place twist is pretty cool

By the way Buckhead is kinda lame compared to when you were probably up here. From what I hear the club scene from a few years ago is gone now. It's all condo's and restaurants now. It's still fun, just not debaucherous!

I hear ya! My daughter lives in North Hollywood so I'll be making my way to Cali for my vaca. I can't wait! Matt's family lives in Calabasas so I'm going to see them as well.

You too? This whole post season feels scripted by the league. LeBron shoots two when he should have drawn a charge, momentum seemed designed to go with the Heat tonight.
I don't think it was blatant, but the refs can control the flow in Bball unlike any other team sport.

Sarasota 'cane

You should come up to Atlanta for a Braves game. B.J. Upton's here you know!!
I'm heading out to L.A. to see my kid in a few. We're gonna meet my Dad in Santa Monica for the week of the 4th.

thirstybuzzardcane

Heat will win because of the refs tonight......with the next 3 games in SA, the spurs will win the next 3 games. Home court is huge!!!! This is the best game the heat have played all season and game 1 is now the second best game they have played (they still loss).....look for the heat to fall flat the next 2 games and game 5 will be close.

The refs have been in the heats corner the whole playoffs!!!!

It's not conspiracy, it's idiocy. To process all of the available data we get about the football team and come to the conclusion that Al Golden was not the right hire at the right time in nonsense.
And to pump a degenerate gamblers pick for the ACC Coastal with a dozen more respectable publications picking UM is ridiculous.

orange 'n green in the vein

This has been a really well played finals but the officiating tonight has been much more suspect than in game 1.

Hopefully the Heat don't tire out in the 4th again and can hold on here for the win.

Dan Silio and his minions 4-Real. You got that? Sounds like a . . . CONSPIRACY!

LMAO. Like I said, that is all.

Sarasota 'cane

So what. Al Golden had options if he wanted to leave UM. He's here because even in light of all of UM's current challenges Al knows that he can win in Miami. Jimmy Johnson, Alonzo Highsmith, ESPN, most local H.S. coaches all know Al can win here.
The only one who doesn't have faith in Al is Dan Sileo and his minion(s).

Al Golden was offered the Tennessee job a month AFTER Charlie Strong turned it down.

Sarasota 'cane

!@@#$% the NCAA is right! And !@@##$$%^ Shapiro as well! And !!@@##$%^ Sports Illustrated if they pile on this week as well. Are they just going to re-write Charles Robinson's hack piece? My guess is it will be a "Miami's guilty, but the NCAA screwed up" fluff piece!!

Go 'canes!

P.S. We've all been frustrated Felipe, but to refer to Al Golden as recently as a few weeks ago as the "Lie with the Tie" is way beyond frustrated. It's not accurate, it's ignorant, and it won't be forgotten when UM starts winning again.

Felipe

But no golden is doing amazing, as is SOUP. All is well, !@&# the NCAA this week.

Felipe

Think the thing that has our jimmies rustled the most (as a general statement of fanbase frustration) is that the defense is the lagging indicator of where we are. Seems everyone who is a Canes fan just loves a mauling defense more than anything else, lol.

Sarasota 'cane

Soup as always great job!! I am miffed why you would want to spend one minute at a UM football game with "The Negative One"!

Go 'canes!!

Sarasota 'cane

Al Golden is the real deal! He has turned this mess around under the worst of circumstances and continues to build bridges into communities where there were none.
UM has a top 5 offense (my opinion), a top 5 special teams corps (my opinion), and a defense which should be improved and is slowly rebuilding through recruiting.
Al had every opportunity to leave and likely could have been offered the TENN job if he had shown interest.
I can't wait to see the naysayers tuck tail and come in here to feast on the nonsense that they have been spewing and continue to spew about the Hurricanes.

Go 'canes!!

And any Central kids that commit will not decommit with our coach there.

UMike

Rumor is 2015 recruit De'Vante Phillips may have committed today

UMike

Felipe, I agree 100%..this staff doesn't give up on recruits simply because they commit elsewhere...especially one of the top players on their board

Felipe

I think the fact that the staff hasn't contacted Sony since his commitment tells me all I need to know about whether the staff believes there's business shenanigans going on there. Not hard to read between the lines.

Finally, the other thing I like about these camps is that it allows local (or who ever is willing to travel) an opportunity to earn schollies to smaller cools also at the camp.

YUP!
And the AGFC is cheap, don't know what the hell Shannon was thinking about offering those exorbitant prices.

Da U N Houston

The latest commit, Darrell Langham, remind me of T. Streeter. Great pickup. These camps are really paying off, with both players and coaches. Talk about test driving a car before putting a bid on it.

With the Under Armour Five star challange going on, all the "Hype" players are there with coaches watching on tv or sideline. AG realized its a perfect time to get a hands on test drive of the stars that were not invited but just as good if not better! I love it!!!!!!

Finally, the other thing I like about these camps is that it allows local (or who ever is willing to travel) an opportunity to earn schollies to smaller cools also at the camp.

It's in the other thread but thought it needed a separate thread.

2014 WR from Santaluces HS. Huge kid with long arms and good hands. Doesn't look like one of the kids that need to put on a massive amount of weight either.

Before you guys say "where is the bat signal?" Carroll, Coley, Golden were all with him and his family right now congratulating him and welcoming him. I spoke to his dad who confirmed to me that his son committed.

UMike

CR...Cornelius is still on the team..as of right now Terry is not, but word is he has the opportunity to come back, right now it is on him. As for Kamalu, I have heard he wasn't coming due to sanctions, then I heard he was..so I have no idea lol..and I dont think ANY one knows but him right now..guess we will find out soon enough

### Not only did UM last week add two-star linebacker and Plantation American Heritage graduate Walter Tucker — an elite hurdler who had no other football scholarship offers — to its 2013 class, but Canesport.com said UM also offered a 2013 football scholarship to a player who has never played football: New York-based Connor Center.

Center taped a workout and sent it to UM — which projects him as a tight end — and other schools. Center, 6-7, said UM is “at the top” of his list with Colorado. He plans to visit in the next week.

As for Tucker, he previously committed to Clemson on a track scholarship, but changed his mind because he decided to play football and that wasn't going to happen at Clemson. Some schools, including Texas and Wisconsin, had interest in him for football but didn't offer him a scholarship because of his past preference for track. Tucker was a high productive running back at American Heritage, but UM offered him as a linebacker.

### Meanwhile, Albany, Ga.-based linebacker Juwan Young on Saturday became UM's 10th oral commitment for the 2014 class, picking UM over North Carolina, Mississippi, Western Kentucky and others. Rated a three-star prospect by rivals.com, the 6-2, 228-pound Young had 118 tackles, 10 sacks and 8 forced fumbles last season.

### Unlike several recent years, UM didn't lose a first-round pick to the MLB draft. But the Hurricanes' top two recruits in their incoming class indicated they likely will turn pro: Arizona fourth-round pick Matt MacPherson (a speedy outfielder from Maryland) and Dodgers fifth-round pick J.D. Underwood, a pitcher from a Palm Beach junior college.

Andre Ware, for Heisman Trophy QB and color analysis for ESPN's ACC games, picks Stephen Morris as the second best ACC QB and U of Miami as a sleeper ACC team.

Canespacers know that Morris is the most improved college QB over his career and one of the best QBs in college FB. This is one recruit that Whipple and Shannon got right, and Fisch deserves a lot of credit for developing him. Morris also put in the work and followed Fisch's instructions, and the nation will find out on September 7th against the Gators on national TV that Morris is one of the best college QBs out there.

The Canes have the best and deepest OL in the ACC, the best RB in the ACC and a top QB in the ACC. Their WR and TE corps are deep. That can only mean that the Canes will have an explosive offense.

The defense will also be much better (they have to be), as Golden and D'No have had more time to recruit their kind of defensive talent. D'No will run more interesting schemes this year, and an average defense is enough to put the Canes in the ACC title game and a BCS bowl.

Putting a lot of stock in the high school ratings is silly for a number of reasons:

1. First and foremost, the NFL spends millions of $ researching players at least 3 years older than these guys and the track record of drafting is amazingly spotty.
2. Chemistry matters in college football--always a risk that the big ratings also produce a big head
3. High school games and tape is notoriously difficult to assess, because the opponents are often unknown and have huge weak spots.
4. Many high schoolers excelled with a wide talent advantage. At the next level talent matters, but so does work ethic as the weakest opponents have been weeded out.

Canester-Nip

The ONLY reason J. Young isn't a 5 star already is because of shady grades, but apparently that issue has been resolved.

CORAL GABLES — A few Hurricanes heard their name called on the third and final day of the baseball draft.

Along with Eric Nedeljkovic, Bryan Radziewski and Chantz Mack, a few more signees were selected in the late rounds of the amatuer draft.

The question for the Hurricanes surrounds who will sign the pro contracts and who will come to/return to school.

Well, as of Saturday night, UM expects to have both Radziewski and Salas back to the pitching staff and all signees but MacPhearson in Coral Gables this fall.

A rundown of everyone affiliated with the team who was picked so far:

•Willie Abreu 14th round (435th overall)
•Derik Beauprez, 25th round (743rd overall)

So what team is your pick to win the Coastal OGV? It's funny to watch you latch onto any straw that would suggest the canes are going to suck or will underachieve. Without looking I bet I've read 5-10 major publications that are picking UM to win the Coastal.
The defense will likely struggle, yet the offense and special teams should excel. How many D1 teams would trade places with UM to have above average players and opportunities in 2 out of 3 phases of the game?
I just don't understand how you can call yourself a fan of UM football and yet go out of your way to uncover every negative rumor, opinion, and story about the team. It doesn't make sense.
