The Dude

TS, I posted at you on the last article.

The depth chart looks pretty good on offense. They alone should carry us to 9 wins. Can't wait for FAU!

The Dude

Furthermore I hope no one took offense to my comments on the last article. If I did offend anyone I appologize, I wasn't at all trying to imply that Mr. Coopers comments were somehow justified. I know discussions of race can be a touchy topic. Sometimes current events drag us into these things. I will say I don't believe anyone that posts here is a closet racist or anything so I typically take what people post here as positively as possible and I hope everyone here can also give me the benefit of the doubt. As far as I'm concerned Orange and Green are the only colors I am biased towards.

Terrance Sullivan

Exactly The Dude i see us winning at least 10 games. The only colors i care about as well is orange and green. Go Canes.

CaneRock

The only color I care about is Beyoncé.

Terrance Sullivan

CaneRock well if Beyonce wasnt married that would be one fun night of fun if you catch my drift.

orange 'n green in the vein

"Definition of NIGGARDLY
1: grudgingly mean about spending or granting : begrudging
2: provided in meanly limited supply
— nig·gard·li·ness noun
— niggardly adverb"

Seems to me that Cooper needed to punch himself in the face apparently because he was the closest definition to the word at the concert according to Miriam Webster, with an obvious meanly limited supply of brains.

Canesfan_1

Like Beyonce would have anything to do with you guys. Delusional.

Me on the other hand, well that's a different story....

BigWindyCane1

The pundits are estimating between 9 to 10 wins this sesson. Anything less would be a dissppointment. Golden seems to always meet or exceed expectations so I expect s bcs bowl and some high nfl picks this desson

CaneRock

Nash Williams doin work..

Many south Florida football stars spent most of their summer at camps, workouts, and college visits. One of those was 2015 University School (Fla.) defensive back, Rashard Causey (6'1" 185).

Causey got the chance to attend one of the last Al Golden football camps of the summer and walked away from the camp with an offer in hand.

Luckily for the hometown 'Canes, Causey has been a Miami Hurricanes fan since day one.

"I plan to be at all the big (Miami) games this season." said Causey.

"Well, I grew up a 'Canes fan. It's always been a dream of mine to play for my hometown school. I like their defense style and I like their tradition." said Causey.

When Causey attended the football camp he got a chance to speak with defensive backs coach, Paul Williams, defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio and the head honcho himself, Al Golden.

Causey, just finished a weeklong college road trip with two of his best friends, Quincy Wilson and Chris Lammons.

The trio visited South Carolina, Tennessee and then finished the trip at Florida, for the Gators' annual Friday Night Lights camp. After the camp, Causey learned he had been offered by the Gators.

"It was cool because it was my first college road trip. Plus it was with Quincy and Chris." said Causey.

Causey, who has earned the nickname "Flash", is normally one of the fastest players on the field. Causey, has been clocked at 4.45 40-yard dash, which as a sophomore is jaw-dropping.

On August 25, Causey and the University School Suns, will be featured on ESPN as they face the Homestead Broncos, and the No. 1 receiver in the nation, Ermon Lane.

"It's cool that you get to prove to everyone that you ready to be a D-1 player. You can show everyone that you are not overrated and show them what you are doing." said Causey.

Eduardo Clements
Senior - Running Back - 5'9" 192lbs - Miami, Florida

" I was raised in a tough environment, where nothing came free. You had to fight for whatever you wanted, and I'm still fighting." -Eduardo Clements

That quote was taken on July 19th 2011... what he couldn't know at that time was that the fight he spoke of, ingrained into him since his youth, would play such an important role in him battling back from a season (and possibly college career) ending injury.

Sometimes a player's impact and worth isn't found in a statistical packet. Eduardo Clements is one of those players. Clements is a running back, special teams, defensive back, team player/leader out of Booker T. Washington. The Miami native decided to play for the "home team" after seeing the brotherhood of the players when he took his official visit to UM. He quickly became a big part of that brotherhood, earning high praise from the old and new coaching staffs; and having AL Golden go as far as to refer to him as the "heart and soul" of the 'Canes. So when Clements went down last season after the North Carolina game with an "upper extremity injury" that he originally thought was a stinger, everyone was disappointed but figured he'd bounce back. Unfortunately, in reality it was a season ending injury that ended up being a herniated disc in need of surgical repair. Surgery involving your spine, no matter the circumstance, will make you reevaluate things. So no one would have been surprised if Clements wasn't listed on the roster this season due to health reasons. Clements, a fighter, however decided that he still had a year left and wasn't about to give in and forgo his senior year over a lil' ole herniated disc. He remained positive and adamant about playing this season (all the while wearing a neck brace). Spring came and went without him putting on the pads. Fans and teammates hoped and prayed for good news as the fall practices are ready to begin, and the season is less than 30 days away. Then, with just under a week before fall practice gets underway, he hit us with this tweet :

Got That Green Light From DOC, Now Its #FullSpeedAhead!
— OT (@DreamChaser_OT) July 30, 2013

Move over "bat signal" at least for the day this gets top tweet.

This is a great story even if he doesn't play a meaningful snap - player fights through injury for one final season. But we could really use him and his experience in an otherwise young backfield. The backup spot behind Duke is up for grabs, and depending on his recovery, it's as much his as anyone's.. He hasn't had that many carries up until now, rushing a total of 39 times for 184 yards. That is mostly a product of backs like Lamar Miller, Duke Johnson, and Mike James clogging up the back field during his time at Miami. Those yards he does have though have come at big times, converting 2 third and shorts and punching in a goal line score against BC. That type of running will be a huge asset to the team with the rest of the backs being largely untested. He has had a large role on the special teams in past seasons. Whether he continues will be up to him and the coaching staff, but I am sure he will be up to the task if there is no further risk of injury. Whatever his contribution is on the field this year will pale in comparison to the impression he'll leave upon his teammates and fans. The heart and soul of the team that has fought back from a herniated disc has helped set the tone for the 2013 season - a tone that giving up will not be tolerated and that fighting through adversity will be required.

Nigel Bethel is ranked a four-star recruit and the nation’s 28th-best cornerback according to Rivals.com. He is the third player from nearby powerhouse H.S. Booker T. Washington to commit to the 'Canes, joining teammates Chad Thomas and Demetrius Jackson.

The 5'9 165 pound CB is lauded for his exceptional instincts, quickness, and ability to read and react.

Daniel Tummely of SOTU previously spoke to Nigel and told us about his aspirations to bring home a National Championship.

We caught up with him for a follow-up Q&A and asked him the following:

Read more here: http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/07/20/3509627/booker-t-washingtons-nigel-bethel.html#storylink=cpy

SOTU: Can you tell me the biggest reason you chose UM?

NB: I committed to Miami because I didn’t want to leave my family and I wanted to be teammates with guys like Artie Burns and Tracy Howard. I also chose UM because I want to get a 4 year degree in sports medicine, and Miami is the perfect fit for me on & off the field. Miami is the only place I feel comfortable.

SOTU:Who is your all time favorite Cane, and why?

NB: My favorite cane of all time is Brandon Harris. I say this because he is a undersized CB who had to face adversity all his life, same as me. He's like a bigger brother to me, we work out together, he gives me advice, and he's a humble dude.

SOTU:What is your impression of Coach Golden? Which coaches from U recruited you?

NB: My impression of Coach Golden is he a nice dude but strictly about business, and he's taking Miami into a great direction. Coach Golden, Coach Barrow, & Coach Coley all recruited me.

SOTU: Is there a player (pro or college) you compare your game to?

NB: I'll compare my game to Greg Reid & Brandon Harris. Those two are my favorite DB's because they both are speedy, swift & versatile CB's. I'll say my game is like those two guys, except I'm faster (laughs).

SOTU:How firm would you say your commitment is? Do you plan any further visits to other schools?

NB: My commitment is a 100% I'm staying with the 'Canes and I don't plan on visiting anyone else.

SOTU: What were your visits to Alabama and FSU like?

NB: My visits with FSU & Alabama were good. Those are amazing programs, but I wanted to EAT in my hometown & give back to my city.

SOTU: Any message for the 'Canes fans out there?

NB: Lets get a better fan base in Miami. That's all people talk about when they don't come to the U, "the only reason I didn't chose the U is cause they games are dead." Everyone wants to play in front of lots of fans!

Well there you have it 'Canes fans. If we want to continue to land kids like Bethel, we need to pack Sun Life Stadium game in and game out.

Thanks again to Nigel for letting us catch up with him!!

CORAL GABLES —Miami went with an Wednesday evening release for the first football depth chart of the season. Practice starts Saturday morning.

A few notes:

UM released a roster later in the evening that included highly recruited defensive linemen Ufomba Kamalu and Al-Quadin Muhammad. Both had eligibility questions leading up to enrollment.
Former Wisconsin defensive lineman David Gilbert, who Miami expected to enroll for immediate eligibility, was not listed on the roster. He was still needing to graduate from Wisconsin before he could transfer without penalty.
Starting on the offensive line, Ereck Flowers and Malcolm Bunche are now co-starters at left tackle.
At right Seantrel Henderson and Flowers are separated by an "or" along with freshman Sunny Odogwu. Yes, all three are co-first team.
At tight end, Asante Cleveland and Clive Walford are both on the first team. Cleveland was alone atop the end-of-spring depth chart.
There are three receiver spots listed now instead of two in the spring. Allen Hurnsand Phillip Dorsett top the WR spots with Herb Waters first team in the slot. Rashawn Scott and Malcolm Lewis are second team.
Duke Johnson is the top RB.
Stephen Morris is the QB.
Al Golden is the coach.
OK, on to defense, the line is unchanged. Anthony Chickillo and Shayon Green are the ends. Luther Robinson and Curtis Porter are co-first team at one tackle with Olsen Pierre at the other.
The linebackers are the same as the spring except Thurston Armbrister is listed as co-backup at one of the outside positions.
All four defensive back positions remain the same as well.

OR, he has legitimate interest because of the fact that we're a pro-style offense with a rising team and an already elite RB who will be leaving when he's a Soph.

OR, he really likes the coaches.

OR, he wants to see what Coral Gables is about because there's obviously something magical when a school has 25 commits at the end of July.

OR, it's the OL depth and recruits being brought in to run behind.

See all the other directions U could've taken that before writing it off as a free vacation?

UMike

Ohio..I cant mention all that stuff because I dont believe it even a little bit lol

Fournette will go to LSU. No way in hell a 5-Star RD from New Orleans comes to Miami lol

Times are changing, UMike. Any elite recruit that will make an official visit to campus, I'll take it. Even if it were a vacation, what if he's on campus and blown away? All they need is for these kids to see the area/campus sometimes.

UMike

Ohio..I agree that if a kid is on campus we hae a shot..absolutely..but do I THINK his visit will be nothing more than a vacation, no lol..jmo...LSU would really have to mess up to not get that kid

4-Real

I guess we REALLY messed things up with Khairi Clark UMike. Lol

UMike

4-Real...I was thinking that was i wrote it lol..BUT..this is different..other programs come into South Florida all the time and get kids..hey I hope I am wrong..but IMHO, Miami is a cool vacation spot and its is free. All of the cities he said he would visit on "unofficial" visits were close SEC teams lol
