NEW BLOG IS UP!

VA Cane

God Bless the Bush family; it is very tough and I think he is a fine young man. We are with you young man lean on the Almighty. We all have you in our CS family prayers.

Ohio_Cane

Glad to hear Eduardo can play! Great news for RB depth

Huh?

thirstybuzzardcane

Jason Heyward from the Braves was out 4 weeks for his appendix. That will cut into Driskels practice time if that's the case, which would be huge.

Old Skool

Also adding to the eyebrow-raising image are tweets sent out from Liner’s Twitter account, where the young man repeatedly mentioned how much money he has these days.

Here's Dee's tweet about his pic

Dee them shorts in that picture gots to go! Lol. I got lots of money tho! I can do things like that!

Busted Coverage also spotted a tweet (now deleted) where Liner wrote about giving his money to family members.

The tweet read: “I’m doing better than I EVER did! Now I can give big bills to my relatives!”

Don't forget Dee was an Auburn commit who changed his mind and committed to Alabama for its tradition -- a tradition with interest, a tradition you can bank on.

OT cleared to play

Jenkins looks huge.

The biggest case on their docket and they don't have time! I call bulls$&t.

University of Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel underwent appendectomy surgery on Tuesday at UF Health Shands Hospital, head coach Will Muschamp announced.

“Jeff had acute appendicitis and fortunately the medical staff caught it very quickly,” said Muschamp. “His surgery went well and how long he is out will be determined by how his body responds, which could be two weeks.”

Driskel, a 6-4, 237-pound junior from Oviedo, is the Gators’ starting quarterback heading into the 2013 season. He had a 10-2 record in 2012 as the starting quarterback and passed for 1,646 yards with 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. Driskel also had over 400 rushing yards with four touchdowns on the ground last year.

Three former Penn State administrators accused of helping cover up the crimes of Jerry Sandusky will stand trial for their charges, Judge William Wenner ordered Tuesday.

Wenner ruled at the end of a two-day preliminary hearing that state prosecutors had presented enough evidence to warrant a full criminal trial for former Penn State president Graham Spanier, former vice president Gary Schultz and former athletic director Tim Curley. All three men had previously filed appeals to have their charges dismissed.

All three men are charged with perjury, obstruction, endangering the welfare of children, failure to properly report suspected abuse and conspiracy.

Wenner called it "a tragic day for Penn State University," the Associated Press reported.

In other news ...

A judge ruled that Penn State's former president and two senior administrators will face trial on obstruction of justice and other charges related to the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.

Yes Sir Thirsty. This season is the 10 year anniversary of the last real good team we had. That won the state champs honors, won their conference won bowl game and won more than 10 games and finished 5th in the nation at 11-2. We got to get back to those level this season.

Classy move..

EW YORK -- Former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand will have his No. 52 retired this fall, the school announced Tuesday.

It will be the first number retired by Rutgers in the 144-year history of its football program.

What an honor thank you @RFootball this means the world to me pic.twitter.com/k0T15iS82h
— Eric LeGrand (@EricLeGrand52) July 30, 2013

LeGrand suffered a spinal cord injury while making a tackle on a kickoff return in a game against Army on Oct. 16, 2010. He was paralyzed from the neck down, but says he has since gained some sensation throughout his body and plans to one day walk again.

The jersey retirement ceremony will take place Sept. 14, when the Scarlet Knights host Eastern Michigan.

Kyle Wright was an athlete playing QB, not vice-versa...and we should've had the foresight to scheme accordingly. KW was nothing more than Chris Rix South. I remember that Louisville game, where the announcer said..."Why are you running a play action fake, when they're sending the house." That was the DAMN! problem during the Coker and Shannon eras, trying to fit a square peg, in a round hole. We couldn't even get a DAMN! 165LB scatback to come to Miami. If we would've had a Rich Rod or a Mike Leach, that offense would've been HUMMIN'! The kids new that, that's why they went elsewhere.

OFF TOPIC:

New York City's crackdown on big, sugary sodas is staying on ice.

An appeals court ruled Tuesday that the city's Board of Health exceeded its legal authority and acted unconstitutionally when it tried to put a size limit on soft drinks served in city restaurants.

In a unanimous opinion, the four-judge panel of the state Supreme Court Appellate Division said that the health board was acting too much like a legislature when it created the limit, which would have stopped sales of non-diet soda and other sugar-laden beverages in containers bigger than 16 ounces.

The judges wrote that while the board had the power to ban "inherently harmful" foodstuffs from being served to the public, sweetened beverages didn't fall into that category. They also said the board appeared to have crafted much of the new rules based on political or economic considerations, rather than health concerns.

The city's law department promised a quick appeal.

"Today's decision is a temporary setback, and we plan to appeal this decision as we continue the fight against the obesity epidemic," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a statement.

ESPN 2014 class rankings, FSU #1, UM #5:

86Cane

From ESPN 300:

DE Chad Thomas (Miami, Fla./Booker T. Washington) climbs to No. 125 from No. 184:

In a class where most of the top defensive lineman are better as run stoppers than pass rushers, Thomas stands out as an explosive edge rusher who is only going to get bigger and stronger as he adds weight to his lanky frame. The Miami commit's speed and ability to bend the edge make him difficult to handle one-on-one.

Practice roster for Edmonton Oilers.

UMike

I wonder what would have happened if Wright had Fisch for 2 years.

LB

"Admittedly, early in his career J12 often times he threw it to the wrong team but heck he was never afraid to just chuck it!"

My wife hates football. Every time he threw one of those floatation devices I'd scream like a crazed hyena. It got to the point where she'd be in a different room, I'd scream, and she'd ask: "Did Jacory throw another one?"

LB

At least J12 THREW the ball.

Admittedly, early in his career J12 often times he threw it to the wrong team but heck he was never afraid to just chuck it!

Speaking of J12, isn't he playing in Canada?

LB

"I was not knocking you at all buddy, you are great and add so much to the space. JMO on players from a long time around kids that's all."

It would totally suck to have to deal with recruitniks and all the effing psychos along with the process of choosing a school.

VA Cane

I meant young what a dumbass cannot spell!!!

VA Cane

No LB you are a great spacer, and its great enthusiasm. I see where you are coming from. I do not mean it about you or Town, just in general. We were all kids long ago....at least I was....and things are different now...much faster world, press, You Tube, Twitter, Text etc pressure is great,....they are you kids who need space for it to slow down for them and let them live and breathe.

I was not knocking you at all buddy, you are great and add so much to the space. JMO on players from a long time around kids that's all.

LB

Thank you Soup for bringing back those awful memories of getting continually plowed by Va. Tech and the rest of the ACC.

I guess I deserve it, though.

LB

The creep issue comes into play when folks (fans) start emailing high school players and following them on Twitter. As crazy as I am about QB's and the continued health of the position at UM, there's no chance on that with me.

Zero. I don't sniff jocks nor snap photos with teenagers. A bunch of Canes fans do. Not me.

I'll be perfectly happy with my orange and green makeup, thank you very much.

86Cane

I can remember MANY occasions watching Wright play where I would be at the game in the stands and yelling at the TOP of my lungs play after play: "THROW THE BALL!"

He never did. He just ate more turf.

LB

"But lets not get a 2 year Viagra erection and have to go to the hospital for help if he does not get here."

That's an awesome quote. I'm allowing myself to descend temporarily into the madness that is recruiting.

At least I'm not 'gazing. If I do that, I give Soup full permission to ban/shoot/render me senseless.

86Cane

Kyle Wright was awesome....until there was another team on the field playing this thing called defense lol

Posted by: UMike | July 30, 2013 at 11:13 AM

There IT is right there.

I forgot who came up with the terms "Turf Face" and "Jitters" for Wright and Freeman?

I think that, and this is serious, that Wright may have had a form of anxiety disorder that affected his play. That is not a criticism of him, it is just an educated observation. He clearly had the physical tools, it was the mental part of the game that he could never overcome.

VA Cane

2 years is a long time. These are children. I remember everyone all smoked up over Teddy, who is a great kid and person, who handles himself very well and was miles better than J12. Look where TB went after all said he was UM all the way. You know who you are. (I am very impressed by his ability and humility). This happens all the time and its part of the procedure.

I have coached kids 35 years now...I se them everyday. I see the recruiting wrongs. I told a Michigan coach who was looking at Morgan Moses as an 8th grader to get the hell off my field, get out of VA or I'd kick his Yankee azz back to the North. An idiot preying on a young kid who did not need it. I really find it offensive to talk to 8th, 9th and 10th graders...they are children. 11th and 12th they start seeing the future, but we need give them a chance to grow in all ways. Recruit them, but don't hassle them. Towns is great, film looks good. He has a huge upside. I remember many who said that about J12....you know you did. Don't care how he ended up #wise.....what did he do, what did he win? Nothing. A nice boy....point being boy. He never left MNWHS he was immature the whole time. So we don't know what will happen if he comes. I hope he does, and I feel our staff will recruit him right, assure him his education is very important and lead him in the right direction. But lets not get a 2 year Viagra erection and have to go to the hospital for help if he does not get here.

Patience...lets build while we wait, accomplish great things and that will be the main factor for his desire to come here. Remember these are children....JMO

86Cane

If U missed him the first time on ESPN catch Golden on The Herd on ESPNU at 11:45.

LB

Again. CaneSpace Rule #6.

UMike

I would watch Wright warm up in the OB while Berlin was still our QB and I thought for sure he had a bright future. And then he actually started playing in real games

LB

"This is 100% true. But the question then is will history repeat itself with #TownCane? I doubt it."

It's all about the feet and the attitude. #TownCane is the very definition of not violating CaneSpace Rule #6.

86Cane

They said the exact same things about Kyle Wright. Soup can verify that cause I'm sure he was around then.

LB

"Lets not make it like we have to sign him to win an NC. That's just not true, imo"

I'm under the assumption that given the good schedule and quality of players signed since Golden took charge that UM should ascend to top 10 status really quick.

But to do that:
1. Outright win the Coastal.
2. Win a bowl game.
3. Win the ACC.
4. Win the Orange Bowl.

I think 1 and 2 can be done this year.

LB

Canesfan 1_1, send me your email if you want some information on Lane.

UMike

There is always a chance, NSD is a long ways from now..but I would be shocked personally if he choose Miami.

UMike

Kyle Wright was awesome....until there was another team on the field playing this thing called defense lol

Canesfan_1

Not criticizing anyone, but it's a little bit nutty to get overexcited over ONE guy. Let's see what the experts say in a couple of years. Just remember. They said the exact same things about Kyle Wright. Soup can verify that cause I'm sure he was around then. Lets not make it like we have to sign him to win an NC. That's just not true, imo

I say we still have a chance with Lane. There was another poster on here saying he had inside info that we still had a great chance just few days ago.
