Is Town a 2015 recruit?

Posted by: UMike | July 30, 2013 at 10:08 AM

YES, could be #1 nationally in that class.

86Cane

Golden on ESPN in 2 minutes.

LB

I hope Al's tie doesn't attack the cameras. It's been known to get hostile in different areas.

LB

By the way, why the fuss over Town? He's a transcedent QB. As a sophomore, he has the best footwork of ANY QB I've seen in at least nine years. And he's a sophomore.

Everyone is coming after him, but from Harry shared... Al has the inside track because of the obvious. Town is a beast, and he's going to win huge wherever he goes. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

This isn't overreacting or USC stargazing or creepy emails to high schoolers. This is a completely different scenario than anything we've seen in a very long time. Stars are irrelevant. I urge anyone who disputes this to watch his tape and look at nothing but his feet.

Soup said it: "if Ricky Town comes to UM, we will win a national championship."

86Cane

Golden knocks it outta da park on ESPN.

Not afraid to say it: "Man Crush"

Canesfan_1

Im sure he!s very good. Maybe he WILL be the best QB in high school. But, sorry, I'm not going to get desperate over ONE kid that has 2 years to graduate. We're the U, and that's unbecoming. If he comes, great, welcome to the U. If not, we'll win an NC without him.

He still has two years left to play in high school. I'll get excited after those two years have passed and he's signed with us.

I'm just not going to get overheated over a 16 year old. By the way, in two years we should have the attitude that he needs us more than we need him.

LB

"Im sure he!s very good. Maybe he WILL be the best QB in high school. But, sorry, I'm not going to get desperate over ONE kid that has 2 years to graduate. We're the U, and that's unbecoming. If he comes, great, welcome to the U. If not, we'll win an NC without him."

Three issues:

1. You haven't seen his film. Transcedent.
2. He plays THE most important position in the country.
3. He wants to come here and will set up our roster for years to come.

Recruiting is absolutely ridiculous, and I'm loathe to even discuss it. But those three points are inarguable.

Agreed, UM is going to win. But I'm talking about consistently winning on a national level and building to the point of "top 5" every year. The quickest way to do that is grab the best QB available.

Fair enough.

I admit that LB may go a little over the top when it comes to #TownCane, but he has his reasons. If you would have been at the Party on the Patio when Harry showed up and dropped the 411 then U might understand a little better.

U SHOULD STAY IN WILTON MANNERS FOR HOME GAMES!!!

LB

"I admit that LB may go a little over the top"

To hell you say. :)

#TownCane

UMike

I dont think there is a such thing as an "inarguable" point lol..but I hear what your saying. My point is with it being so far away and with the hype and attention that is bound to come, to maybe harder than we think to get him.

LB

"I dont think there is a such thing as an "inarguable" point"

That's just me being a jerk & a know-it-all.

I'm allowing myself to get caught up in the excitement of a recruit this once because of reasons explained.

LB

Oh, and my ploy to turn the conversation away from a wide receiver who won't sign with UM worked.

So yay for me and yay for UM.

UMike

lol LB

Canesfan_1

Not criticizing anyone, but it's a little bit nutty to get overexcited over ONE guy. Let's see what the experts say in a couple of years. Just remember. They said the exact same things about Kyle Wright. Soup can verify that cause I'm sure he was around then. Lets not make it like we have to sign him to win an NC. That's just not true, imo

I say we still have a chance with Lane. There was another poster on here saying he had inside info that we still had a great chance just few days ago.

UMike

Kyle Wright was awesome....until there was another team on the field playing this thing called defense lol

UMike

There is always a chance, NSD is a long ways from now..but I would be shocked personally if he choose Miami.

LB

Canesfan 1_1, send me your email if you want some information on Lane.

LB

"Lets not make it like we have to sign him to win an NC. That's just not true, imo"

I'm under the assumption that given the good schedule and quality of players signed since Golden took charge that UM should ascend to top 10 status really quick.

But to do that:
1. Outright win the Coastal.
2. Win a bowl game.
3. Win the ACC.
4. Win the Orange Bowl.

I think 1 and 2 can be done this year.

U will pay for this remark! I will drink all of your liquor and then take your women from U at the FAU game. U will see...LOL

LB

"U SHOULD STAY IN WILTON MANNERS FOR HOME GAMES!!!"

Ouch.

I'm more than a few hundred miles away and even I know those are fighting words.

86Cane

This is 100% true. But the question then is will history repeat itself with #TownCane? I doubt it.

LB

"This is 100% true. But the question then is will history repeat itself with #TownCane? I doubt it."

It's all about the feet and the attitude. #TownCane is the very definition of not violating CaneSpace Rule #6.

UMike

I would watch Wright warm up in the OB while Berlin was still our QB and I thought for sure he had a bright future. And then he actually started playing in real games

LB

Again. CaneSpace Rule #6.

86Cane

If U missed him the first time on ESPN catch Golden on The Herd on ESPNU at 11:45.

VA Cane

2 years is a long time. These are children. I remember everyone all smoked up over Teddy, who is a great kid and person, who handles himself very well and was miles better than J12. Look where TB went after all said he was UM all the way. You know who you are. (I am very impressed by his ability and humility). This happens all the time and its part of the procedure.

I have coached kids 35 years now...I se them everyday. I see the recruiting wrongs. I told a Michigan coach who was looking at Morgan Moses as an 8th grader to get the hell off my field, get out of VA or I'd kick his Yankee azz back to the North. An idiot preying on a young kid who did not need it. I really find it offensive to talk to 8th, 9th and 10th graders...they are children. 11th and 12th they start seeing the future, but we need give them a chance to grow in all ways. Recruit them, but don't hassle them. Towns is great, film looks good. He has a huge upside. I remember many who said that about J12....you know you did. Don't care how he ended up #wise.....what did he do, what did he win? Nothing. A nice boy....point being boy. He never left MNWHS he was immature the whole time. So we don't know what will happen if he comes. I hope he does, and I feel our staff will recruit him right, assure him his education is very important and lead him in the right direction. But lets not get a 2 year Viagra erection and have to go to the hospital for help if he does not get here.

Patience...lets build while we wait, accomplish great things and that will be the main factor for his desire to come here. Remember these are children....JMO

86Cane

Kyle Wright was awesome....until there was another team on the field playing this thing called defense lol

There IT is right there.

I forgot who came up with the terms "Turf Face" and "Jitters" for Wright and Freeman?

I think that, and this is serious, that Wright may have had a form of anxiety disorder that affected his play. That is not a criticism of him, it is just an educated observation. He clearly had the physical tools, it was the mental part of the game that he could never overcome.

LB

"But lets not get a 2 year Viagra erection and have to go to the hospital for help if he does not get here."

That's an awesome quote. I'm allowing myself to descend temporarily into the madness that is recruiting.

At least I'm not 'gazing. If I do that, I give Soup full permission to ban/shoot/render me senseless.

86Cane

I can remember MANY occasions watching Wright play where I would be at the game in the stands and yelling at the TOP of my lungs play after play: "THROW THE BALL!"

He never did. He just ate more turf.

LB

The creep issue comes into play when folks (fans) start emailing high school players and following them on Twitter. As crazy as I am about QB's and the continued health of the position at UM, there's no chance on that with me.

Zero. I don't sniff jocks nor snap photos with teenagers. A bunch of Canes fans do. Not me.

I'll be perfectly happy with my orange and green makeup, thank you very much.

LB

Thank you Soup for bringing back those awful memories of getting continually plowed by Va. Tech and the rest of the ACC.

I guess I deserve it, though.

VA Cane

No LB you are a great spacer, and its great enthusiasm. I see where you are coming from. I do not mean it about you or Town, just in general. We were all kids long ago....at least I was....and things are different now...much faster world, press, You Tube, Twitter, Text etc pressure is great,....they are you kids who need space for it to slow down for them and let them live and breathe.

I was not knocking you at all buddy, you are great and add so much to the space. JMO on players from a long time around kids that's all.

VA Cane

I meant young what a dumbass cannot spell!!!

LB

"I was not knocking you at all buddy, you are great and add so much to the space. JMO on players from a long time around kids that's all."

It would totally suck to have to deal with recruitniks and all the effing psychos along with the process of choosing a school.

86Cane

At least J12 THREW the ball.

Admittedly, early in his career J12 often times he threw it to the wrong team but heck he was never afraid to just chuck it!

Speaking of J12, isn't he playing in Canada?

LB

LB

"Admittedly, early in his career J12 often times he threw it to the wrong team but heck he was never afraid to just chuck it!"

My wife hates football. Every time he threw one of those floatation devices I'd scream like a crazed hyena. It got to the point where she'd be in a different room, I'd scream, and she'd ask: "Did Jacory throw another one?"

UMike

I wonder what would have happened if Wright had Fisch for 2 years.

Let's not try to re-live that nightmare!

86Cane

Golden just finished on The Herd.

"Man Crush from Wilton Manors"

LOL

Hassan

Ricky Town is in the running to be the top ranking recruit for 2015, So the world can see how talented he is. I hear he is an SEC lean i have no clue where he is going now.

I am in Afghanistan, big favor synopsis of what Al Golden says.

86Cane

Harry...where U at? Updates on #TownCane?

86Cane

Updated ESPN 300 as of 7/30/13:

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/playerrankings/_/view/rn300/sort/rank/class/2014

86Cane

From ESPN 300:

Miami QB-PP commit Brad Kaaya (West Hills, Calif./Chaminade) climbs to No. 171 from No. 252.

86Cane

From ESPN 300:

DE Chad Thomas (Miami, Fla./Booker T. Washington) climbs to No. 125 from No. 184:

In a class where most of the top defensive lineman are better as run stoppers than pass rushers, Thomas stands out as an explosive edge rusher who is only going to get bigger and stronger as he adds weight to his lanky frame. The Miami commit's speed and ability to bend the edge make him difficult to handle one-on-one.
