During his playing days, Patrick was an All-American defensive end at the University of Miami from 1989-93. He was a major contributor on the Hurricane team that claimed two National Championships with wins over Nebraska in the 1992 Orange Bowl and over Alabama in the 1990 Sugar Bowl.
Patrick also played in the Cotton and Fiesta Bowls during his career.
Patrick earned All-America honors and team MVP accolades in 1993, when he collected 10 sacks. During his career, he tallied 174 tackles and 23 sacks, which ranks fifth in program history.
He graduated from Miami in 1994 with a degree in business administration. Patrick was a four-year letterwinner in football at Forest Hill High School in West Palm Beach, Fla., graduating in 1989. He also was a two-year letterwinner in track and field, throwing the shot put and discus his junior and senior years.
As a coach at USF, Kevin Patrick started his second stint with the University of South Florida in 2008 after serving as the defensive ends coach for three seasons from 1996-98. After leaving coaching for a 10-year period, Patrick returned to USF on Feb. 25, 2007 and has coached the defensive line, defensive ends and now the defensive tackles.
Since returning, Patrick produced three NFL draft picks, including first-rounder Jason Pierre-Paul, who was selected with the 15th overall pick by the New York Giants in the 2010 NFL Draft and went on to be named All-Pro in 2011, while helping the Giants to a Super Bowl title. USF's three defensive linemen drafted in the past two seasons is the most of any school in Florida.
Last year, Patrick's tackles contributed to USF finishing second nationally in TFL and fourth in sacks, while only allowing 107.3 rushing yards per game (15th NCAA). The Bulls were led by the tackle trio of Keith McCaskill, Cory Grissom and Elkino Watson, who combined for 6.5 sacks and 23 TFL.
In 2010, Patrick guided a unit that helped the defense rank 17th in total defense (317.9 ypg), 22nd in scoring defense (20.0 ppg) and 22nd in rushing defense (125.6 ypg). Patrick's star pupil, Terrell McClain, was a first-team All-BIG EAST selection and was drafted with the first pick in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers.
In his second season back with the Bulls, Patrick oversaw the development of Pierre-Paul, a first-team All-American selection by Pro Football Weekly in 2009. Pierre-Paul was also named first-team all-conference by the BIG EAST coaches, ESPN, Rivals.com and the Sporting News along with second-team honors by Phil Steele.
Former two-time All-American George Selvie earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors from the league's coaches and Phil Steele. Under Patrick's tutelage his last two seasons, Selvie finished his career as the most prolific defensive players in USF history, topped off by being selected in the seventh round by the St. Louis Rams in the 2010 Draft.
Patrick flourished during his first season back with the Bulls. He helped defensive end George Selvie repeat as a first team All-American and assisted a defensive unit that ranked No. 10 nationally in total defense. Patrick also reeled in a pair of national awards on the recruiting trail. Rivals named him one of the top 25 recruiters in America and the top recruiter in the BIG EAST. The acclaim came after four-star recruits Ryne Giddens, Jacquain Williams, Jason Pierre-Paul and Julius Forte inked with USF on National Signing Day.
Larry Brodsky - Drafted in the 10th round of the 1982 NFL Draft as the 268th pick by the Kansas City Chiefs. Did not play.

Kevin Patrick, University of Miami teammate (defensive end, 1989-1993): "At that time in college football I don’t think there was any doubt the University of Miami was at the top of their game. If you were on that team and a scholarship player, you were highly recognized.
"You look at those rosters that Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) was a part of, they were loaded with talent and he was competitive.
"I can remember one of the first times he was on campus, it was an official visit. Our D-line coach [Orgeron], who was recruiting him, he was very proud, and he says, 'Look at my new dog.'
"And you look over and there’s this yoked-up kid with muscles everywhere walking around on the field. He got everyone’s attention. He was a physical specimen from Day 1. He didn’t just become one as soon as he became a wrestler.
Orgeron: "As a freshman, he came out, and back then we didn’t play too many freshmen. But he was very strong, he had some great practices and we were able to play him as a freshman, and at one point we thought maybe we’d start him as a freshman.
"The problem with Dwayne was there was a guy named Warren Sapp who came along the next year."

UMike, even Lt Nolan said that was the news. He said its not a commit, NCAA, or grades related. They didn't want to say exactly because Berrios asked them not to so he could announce it because he's been wanting one since he was little

I think we also end up with Dixson, but lose out on Lane and Rudolph. Still a solid WR class, especially considering it isnt an area of great need
Posted by: UMike | July 06, 2013 at 10:54 AM
CR..he was close to an offer after camp. I THINK, coaches heard from or think something about other WR targets and that is why they were holding off a bit.

Ariz..
2014 Leesville Road (NC) WR Braxton Berrios got a call yesterday that he had been waiting almost his entire life for, as his childhood favorite Miami offered him.
“I’m in Atlanta at the lake with a bunch of my family so I was actually on the lake at a friends’ place and I was talking to Coach Scott and Coach Carroll through Messenger and then I called Coach Scott and he told me to call Coach Carroll and he ended up offering me and it was a great feeling. I’ve had a great week with the opening, now I’m with family, and then I got that phone call so it’s amazing,” said Berrios.
After winning camp MVP for his position group back in June, Berrios did not receive the offer. Why did the staff wait until now to pull the trigger?
“I was going to ask, but I ended up not getting around to it. What he did say was that he kept reiterating to Coach Golden that he wanted me and that finally Coach Golden said go get him.”
Berrios still has family who live in the South Florida area and his father, Rafael, was born and grew up in Miami.
“My dad was standing right next to me and I told him that I was calling Coach Carroll and I thought they were about to offer me. He walked outside with me and he was excited to hear it because he knows what I know that I’ve loved the school throughout the process. He was ecstatic because it’s been his team since he was alive and the rest of my family freaked out when he told them. It’s amazing that it’s an option now and I can’t say that I haven’t been waiting for it because I’ve always had dreams about it. By no means is it a done deal, but everybody knows it’s a huge offer and that I love the ‘Canes.”
The shifty slot receiver had previously stated that Miami would be seriously considered if they offered, and he reiterated that.
“I have no numbers with any of my top schools, but they are in it. Obviously everybody knows that's my childhood team. They’re in the top schools for sure and they’ll be in it ‘til the end. I haven’t thought about committing anywhere yet so I don’t want to freak anybody out.”
Berrios has had a timetable for a commitment for a while, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t necessarily happen earlier.
“I’ve always said late-September, early-October. That’s really to give some room for some official visits and I’ll see how the rest of the summer plays out. If I don’t need that time then I’ll go ahead and commit, but I think I need the rest of the summer to figure some stuff out.”
Something else going in Miami’s favor with Berrios is the relationship that he has built with QB commit Brad Kaaya, who first reached out to Braxton about a month ago.
“It’s huge. We had a good weekend at The Opening and we were hanging out a lot just messing around and talking, not necessarily about Miami of football all the time, just as boys. I know they’ve taken a few quarterbacks, but regardless he’s a great one and I don’t see anyone beating him out in our class.”
After running a 3.81 20-yard shuttle time and posting one of the top SPARQ scores in the nation, Berrios has become a national name.
“That’s what I was going after when I came out to The Opening. I wasn’t going after Nike gear or a free trip to Oregon. I was going after respect and I’ve always really felt that I’ve never gotten it. I’ve always felt there was nobody that I’ve seen that is head above heels better than me and that there wasn’t a DB who could shut me down. I think I did get it and that was the perfect stage to get it. I don’t know what’s going to happen over the next month because of it, but regardless I got it.

Some more razzamatazz on Honey Nut:
Leesville Road football standout Braxton Berrios finished fifth in The Opening, a national championship for football combines that was held in Oregon this week.
About 150 of the top performers from football combines held around the United States competed in Oregon in a nationally televised event.
Berrios (5-foot-9, 180 pounds) earned his invitation when he posted the top score (119.52) among more than 1,000 athletes who worked out in Charlotte in March. He advanced to the top 10 finals competition in Oregon through preliminary testing.
He received a 138.78 in the finals for fifth place. He ran 40 yards in 4.48 seconds, made a vertical jump of 40.9 inches, completed a 20-yard shuttle run in an event-best 3.81 seconds and heaved a power ball from a kneeling position 42 feet.
Wide receiver Devante “Speedy” Noil of New Orleans Edna Karr was the overall winner with a 153.90 rating.

We are gearing up for our second session of our summer camp, starting Monday July 8th running through Friday July 26th. For those of you that aren't familiar with our summer camp, it is designed for the youth athletes (1st through rising 9th graders). We focus on building better athletes through speed, agility, strength, and conditioning training.
Our first session was a huge success, which garnered an average result of improving 40yd dash times by .17 seconds and pro shuttle times by .6 sec for our 16 campers, not to mention the huge improvements in strength and conditioning levels. We were very happy with the results from only 3 weeks of training, and look forward to what the next 3 weeks will bring.
This session we will be offering:
1 day = $50
1 week = $150
2 week = $250
3 week = $350
Remember, camp is Monday-Friday and 8am-12pm daily. Drop off and pick up is at the south entrance of the Western High School football stadium (17th Street and 136 Ave).
Also remember we have year round training groups for kids of all ages, as well as adult training for all levels.
Check out our web site for further details, www.powersports-academy.com.

any reason the U is not offering?
Curiously, UM has not offered two four-star Fort Lauderdale University School players: cornerback Quincy Wilson (Gators, USC among 40-plus offers) and linebacker Richard Yeargin III (UF, Clemson among 30-plus offers). Wilson told me they’re very surprised by that.
