The University of Miami unveiled the official logo of the 1983 National Championship team’s 30-year reunion, to be held Aug. 30 during the football regular season opener against Florida Atlantic at Sun Life Stadium.
“1983 was the linchpin that put into place the wonderful talent that was assembled and would continue to create the greatest college football dynasty since World War II,” former Miami Hurricanes head coach Howard Schnellenberger said. “I was thrilled when I learned the University was going to move up the next scheduled reunion so that I and many others could participate and enjoy.”
The logo, a brainchild of Miami Hurricanes graphic designer Leo Ramos, includes both subtle and stout references to the historical significance of the team’s accomplishments.
“It was an honor to even be asked to design it,” Ramos said. “I put an immense amount of pressure on myself to make sure it was done right and highlight the team that basically started it all. I had to try and dim down my fanhood and really try to honor them as they deserved to be.”
Among the multiple historical references embedded in the logo: a bowl of oranges commemorating the 50th Orange Bowl Classic, the markings of a football on the bowl, a “1” to signify the program’s first national championship, as well as the tagline “The Dynasty Begins” located on the base of the logo.
“Whenever I’m designing, I always like to insert subliminal hints towards history,” Ramos said. “I want it to be significant. Looking great is almost an afterthought. I want to make sure it served a purpose. I want it to highlight the idea of foundation.”
Ramos put in plenty of personal research before he began designing. “I went as far as to re-watch a few of the team’s games from that season,” he said. “I wanted to really get the attitude of the team, capture all of the poetic romance, and try to visually describe all of it.”
More than 65 players and coaches from the 1983 team are planning to attend, with more names being added to the growing list daily.
“The University and athletic department are excited about the opportunity to bring back the 1983 National Champions,” said Director of Alumni Programs Rick Remmert. “They represent the best of who we are. You can’t win your second national championship until you’ve won your first. They did it with incredible style, fashion and performance, and they certainly are deserving and worthy of this recognition.”
To purchase tickets to the Aug. 30 season opener against FAU, which will include a halftime tribute to the 1983 National Championship team, visit www.CanesTix.com.
So the Crocs get 12,500 tickets guaranteed, the 9,500 students for our Canes and even with the 22,800 returning Canes season ticket holders. U are already starting at a 32,300 Canes fans to 12,500 Croc fans 44,800 tickets sold which only leaves 32,054 the Crocs would have to buy up around 20,000 of those remaining tickets to get close to the 60 Canes 40 Crocs percent. So Yea I say it will be around 65/35 Canes to Crocs ratio. Go Canes. August 30th cant get here fast enough.

They got plenty of $8 tickets left for the FAU game..and lower level for under $30

Tired of the Canes sharing a stadium. The Dolphins play their pre-season finale Thursday 8/29 at home. Canes home opener the next night. Do the Canes get new turf or the left over torn up turf the day after an nfl game?
Shit, still better than the damn diamond from the Marlins I guess.

A drug cheat deserves no loyalty, especially one that lies about it. Braun should never draw a paycheck playing sports again. Cheater.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | August 22, 2013 at 10:53 AM
I'm not defending Braun. Whether he deserves another chance at playing has already been decided.
The issue that I have is with the UM alum who wants to tie Braun to drug use while at UM, academic fraud while at UM, and taking money from an agent while at UM.
In case you forgot UM is already on double-secret probation. I'm not sure how well received UM will be at the NCAA if they have to turn around at the end of the month and tell them that they have another "situation" brewing.
I ask again why are UM alumni and boosters so quick to bring the program down when slighted? None of this crap with Braun has anything to do with UM with regards to his current situation. This UM alum is squeezing Braun for $$$ and is using the threat of bringing down UM to do it. Same as the skank Perez.

OGV - you must mean drug cheats that GET CAUGHT. Probably at least half of MLB players are on PEDs at some point every year. Most cycle during the offseason. And probably 80% have been on PEDs at some point in their careers.
The NFL? A majority are on HGH and many are on testosterone or Stanozol etc at some point during the year. Just about every NFL player has been on PEDs at some point in his career, most have been on multiple times.
A good number of even high school players take PEDs, but they are financially limited so it's much less.
College? Lets not go there today.
I'm not excusing what Braun did, or his tactics. BUT LETS BE REAL.

My gut told me it would be between Tuesday and Thursday. Why practice was cancelled will remain a mystery, I can't think of any logical reason for it, especially a day after Golden was getting on them for not working. But, at least I got to enjoy my Sox-Giants game in peace. :)

Canesfan_1..unfortunately there will be fights, shoot there are Miami on Miami fights at a lot of games lol...With the drinking and general hatred toward Florida there will certainly be fights.
Posted by: UMike | August 22, 2013 at 12:17 PM
I remember the last FSU game in the OB I went to. There were 2 or 3 fights in the West End Zone..ALL Miami fans lol
Posted by: UMike | August 22, 2013 at 12:20 PM
Im just hoping that since I bought season tickets I am surrounded by more UM fans that UF lol..but we got seats 1 and 2 so if a fight breakout we can just slide on down lol...I never understood fighting in those steep ass seats lol..cant you just go down to lever ground and fight like normal people lol
Posted by: UMike | August 22, 2013 at 12:23 PM
I think there will be a lot of fights at this matchup. It would have gone to DEFCON 1 if the game were to kickoff at 8pm, but since so many of the "rookies" will shoot most of their load the night before the tension shouldn't be all that bad.

When we went to the OSU game, a few friends came with me. My good friend is a OSU fan and a devote Christian and youth leader at the Church. Well as soon as we got out of the car he was welcomed lol..this hottie with shorts and a bikini top looks at him, flips him 2 birds and screams "F&%K OSU" lol...now if that were 2 drunk dudes..hands would be thrown lol
Posted by: UMike | August 22, 2013 at 12:27 PM
Mike, yes, there are always fights, usually it's Cane on Cane crime. I'm just concerned about 20,000 or more gayturds, high noon heat, drunkenness, and then mix in the arrogance of their moronic fan base thinking they're going to own and dominate our stadium. Add to that the fact we hate each other. That's a recipe for more fights than the usual cane on cane silliness that never amounts to anything. I'm predicting there's going to be more than usual and there may be some nasty ones. I'm older and wiser so I stay out of it, other than a little jawing.
Posted by: Canesfan_1 | August 22, 2013 at 12:33 PM
I always like the harmless trash talk, but I don't cross any lines. I told my little brother to just keep quiet and keep it moving. I won't start anything, but I can throw my hands just fine if needed. I spent my fair share of time in the County jail and prefer not to go back when I got a flight the next morning lol
Posted by: UMike | August 22, 2013 at 12:37 PM
You guys think there'll be many fights in the stands or parking lots?
Posted by: Canesfan_1 | August 22, 2013 at 12:11 PM
NOOOOOOOOO.HEHEHEHEH
Posted by: canezilla | August 22, 2013 at 12:40 PM
There will be fights, no question. Shoot, one of our former friends here got into one with FSU, can't imagine that UF will be much different.
Posted by: j.w. | August 22, 2013 at 12:43 PM
No need to throw down unless you're defending yourself or friends. Always think twice and always remember this is 2013, there's video everywhere, so you better be right and look right. Also, you never know what the other guy has in his pocket.
Best to just talk trash up to a point and leave it at that. At the end of the day, there'll be plenty of knuckleheaded gaytors getting their asses whipped for us to watch and amuse ourselves.

So true. They have those hotline #'s to call or text your section if there is an issue. They can look everything up on video, replay it, zoom in, record it, etc.
By the time the cops get there they already know who they're taking to jail.

No need to fight the Gators fans. The punishment to be metted out on the field should be more than sufficient.

Canes fan, I think that you are very correct on that.
Posted by: TonyCane | August 22, 2013 at 01:34 PM

Heather Dinich has Morris #6 in her top 25 players in the ACC
Posted by: UMike | August 21, 2013 at 02:08 PM
HD also has reached #4 and has no mentioned Duke Johnson. My guess is Duke will be in the top 3 alon with Sammy Watkis and Taj Boyd. My guess is that Duke wil be #2. It has been a while since the Canes have had a player considered that high. My prediction will be that by the end of the season, Duke will be #1.

Cheaters don't deserve any loyalty, academic frauds don't deserve any coverup (Hi UNC!), and long posts about how you defend caught cheaters then end with, "Not defending him but," mean you're defending a cheater and then lying about not doing so. Don't care where they went to school and if they went to UM they definitely need to have the light shined on them so they can be exposed for the proverbial cockroaches they really are.
T. Sully, your math looks pretty sound but you have to account for secondary market tickets going to orange and blue wearing fans and how many turd fans bought season tickets just to get the UF game and then they'll try and move the other six for peanuts? So I stand by my 55%/45% prediction with little to no evidence to back it up at this point but we'll see in a few weeks.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | August 22, 2013 at 03:02 PM

OGV - in the real world, so many professional athletes take PEDs that you couldn't continue professional sports if you suspended them all.
There's the real world, and then there's others' version of their make-believe ideal world.
But go ahead and twist my words, because nowhere do I excuse, I'm just pointing out what I know to be true.
Or you can check the records of the hundreds of "rejuvenation" clinics between Miami and Orlando and other states..
Posted by: Canesfan_1 | August 22, 2013 at 03:20 PM
OGV 55/45? It should only sound that way if that Gators are mopping us up. I love your football insight but you are the epitome of a pessimist.
65/35 at best. But if we are getting curb stomped it feels like a home game for the Gators.
If we are winning and it's crucial you will get Orange Bowl memories with Sun Life stacked.
Posted by: SmatCane | August 22, 2013 at 03:20 PM
Well, good thing I don't watch a lot of pro sports then, huh?
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | August 22, 2013 at 03:21 PM
Smat, I've got 55/45, you've got 65/35 (at best), the difference in the percentages, 10%. So I'm saying essentially they're going to be about 8000 more UF fans than you're claiming will be there. Not a lot of actual bodies when you look at the numbers, so I'm not too worried about overestimating how much will be on hand just yet, now if they drop the opener to Toledo (uh, no), then I can see a flood of tickets getting put up and the price coming way down, ironically, if UM were to somehow get upset in their opener, I expect the price to go up and then you'll see a majority UF fans there yokeling it up.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | August 22, 2013 at 03:29 PM
I bet the NCAA is deliberately holding Miami´s press conference until the season starts to harm even more our program and cause distraction at the worst moment. Miami should sue the NCAA big time.
