Nine days into #CanesCamp, the
Miami Hurricanes held their first preseason scrimmage Sunday afternoon at the
Greentree Practice Fields. The scripted scrimmage lasted for approximately 90
minutes in the mid-90 degree heat.
Artificial crowd
noise was pumped through the sound system during each drive, signature
third-down music was played in an effort to rattle the offense, and referees
enforced penalties on both sides to ensure the scrimmage replicated a real-game
atmosphere.
Several players
were held out of Sunday’s scrimmage. Junior DL David Perry, sophomore DB Deon
Bush and sophomore RB Brandon Yosha were in red (non-contact) jerseys, while six
other Canes were not in pads – junior DE Ufomba Kamalu, senior DT Justin
Renfrow, senior DE David Gilbert, junior DE Anthony Naser, freshman OL Hunter
Knighton and freshman DE Naim Mustafaa.
The scrimmage opened with goal
line and short yardage situations as the offense showcased a number of different
looks. The next set of plays flipped the field, with the ball being spotted
inside the five-yard line.
Senior QB Stephen Morris threw
two TDs, a one-yarder to senior FB Maurice Hagens and then a 30-yarder
over-the-shoulder catch by junior WR Phillip Dorsett to end the scrimmage.
Redshirt freshman RB Danny Dillard posted a 3-yard TD and senior RB Eduardo
Clements later found pay dirt from six yards out – all after initial contact to
barrel into the end zone.
Defensively, the Hurricanes
registered three sacks, four tackles for loss, three pass deflections and three
pass break-ups.
Sophomore PK Matt Goudis was a
perfect 3-for-3 on field goal attempts, knocking home all three kicks from
between 45-47 yards out.
The Hurricanes
are off Monday and will return to practice Tuesday morning with their second
two-a-days practice of #CanesCamp.

Anyone believe Danny Dillard will some day be an excellent back for the Canes?
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | August 12, 2013 at 09:28 PM
He'll have the opportunity, now him seizing it is really the question. From what I have read he needs to learn to run with power, he's a big back, needs to run like a big back.

If we mangle UiF in a few of weeks, there may be some second thoughts?

Just win and they will come.

I was and still am a big Dillard fan. But his time is now with James gone to be the power back along with Gus Edwards. Time will tell.

Only once, actually, although Zook was a strong recruiter. It was Meyer that blew by Coker and Shannon in recruiting. Urban had higher rankings in every year except for in first season.

Any big time South Florida recruit should be proud to stay home to represent the University of Miami a world class University, the no.1 institution in the state of Florida on one of the most beautiful campus in North America.
A university with the best football program in the last 30 years and on the rise once again with a great coaching staff under one of the classiest coach in America Al Golde...n.
Unless you don't have acceptable grades ,you have no reason not to play for your world class city at Miami...
Duke Johnson knew that all the way but Duke is an intelligent man proud of his city and where he is coming from. A very humble superstar who knew all the way that the U is the best fit...No BS...no recruiting drama, good maturity and the man is in a class by himself.
Home for my city...

The Herb sees where a few zeros are trying to flame my boy OGV's tail, well good luck. The Herb personally enjoys his off the wall details of his disdain for The Golden One and yes he does go overboard at times but no different than the Herb's rants about our defense and lack of quality talent at tackle, which I still don't see but I guess we will see by game 2 if Deno has found a way to make those sieves play better.
