Anthony Brown, DE, 6-3, 225, Miami Killian: One of the biggest off season moves was by a player that many had never heard about. But after a solid junior season and spring at Miami Archbishop Carroll, it is evident that this is one of those senior prospects who have the chance to perhaps make a very good team – better! Brown is a quick, strong pass rusher who solidifies an already quality defense.

Demetrius Jackson, DE, 6-5, 220, Miami Booker T. Washington: Even though he has already committed to Miami – with a strong offseason, this one-time basketball standout has already proven what he is all about after solid spring game – where he was virtually unstoppable. Jackson is indeed a player who has the chance to be very special this year – on a defense that was already as good as you get.

2013 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets College Football Preview

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Head Coach: Paul Johnson
2012 Record: 7-7 overall, 5-3 ACC Coastal
2012 Bowl Result: Beat USC 21-7 in Sun Bowl
2013 Returning Starters: 7 offense, 8 defense

Odds to win 2014 BCS Championship Game; 350/1
Odds to win 2013 ACC Championship Game: 21/2
Odds to Win 2013 ACC Coastal Division: +320
Regular Season Wins: over 8 -125 / under 8 -115

Last season, Georgia Tech had a forgettable .500 season under coach Paul Johnson. The Yellow Jackets did technically win the ACC Coastal Division but only because North Carolina and Miami weren’t eligible. Georgia Tech was up and down all season starting off the season 3-5, including heartbreaking overtime losses to Virginia Tech and Miami and head scratching blowout losses at home to Middle Tennessee and BYU. The only wins in that stretch were routs over lesser caliber Presbyterian, Virginia, and Boston College.

The Yellow Jackets would then win 3 straight games against Maryland, North Carolina and Duke, all by 18 points or more. Tech was crushed by in-state rival Georgia 42-10 in the regular season finale. The Yellow Jackets were a heavy underdog against Florida St in the ACC Championship game, but Georgia Tech hung around in a tight 21-15 loss. Tech had to get a special exemption from the NCAA to play in a bowl game as they had a losing record. The Yellow Jackets would defeat a disinterested USC team 21-7 in the Sun Bowl to finish 7-7.

I dont think any of the 3 are a big lose, especially considering the class we already have.

Like hell LMAO!...Lane is a STUD!

But nevertheless, I like Trayon Gray and Darrell Langham. I like Gray's size, He reminds me of Anquan Boldin. I like Langham's length, reminds me of Streeter.

Where we need to pick it up in recruiting is RB, we need another stud back there with Duke. I like what I'm hearing about Edwards, but we need another homerun hitter back there.

Georgia Tech opens at home against Elon. The Yellow Jackets then begin a stretch of 4 straight conference games that includes road games at Duke and Miami, along with home games against North Carolina and Virginia Tech. Then comes a tough trip to Provo to face BYU. Home games against ACC newcomers Syracuse and Pitt are sandwiched around a trip to Virginia. The Yellow Jackets travel to Clemson before home games against Alabama A&M and rival Georgia to close out the season.

Lee is a good quarterback but who is he going to throw the ball to? The wide receiver position is the biggest question even though it is a run first offense. In the last several seasons, Georgia Tech has produced NFL star receivers Calvin Johnson, Demaryius Thomas, and Stephen Hill. So the offense needs a star receiver to function at it’s highest level. On defense, a lot of talent returns, but it might take a few games to adjust to the new 4-3. The schedule isn’t too demanding with two games against FCS schools. Georgia Tech should contend for the Coastal division title with Virginia Tech in a rebuilding year. However, Georgia Tech has gone 21-19 in the last 3 seasons and another season around .500 could mean the end of the Johnson era. This team could win 8 games if the chips fall right, but any more would be difficult.

Ah the life of predicting where HS kids will continue their careers. I've already had mine revoked for missing on 10-12 or so the last couple years. LOL

Good stuff as always, Spacers. Thanks for letting me catch up on all things Cane in 10 minutes.

Which is why Hinnen from CBS sports has them ranked #23 on his list and UM UNRANKED? LOL

Old Skool

Skool...when did all of these "urination" problems start? Ten years ago nobody had this problem now all of a sudden they are as common as the common cold? I don't get it, is it just to sell more drugs?

There's profit in pee
Gold in them thar stream
Texas tea, Pennsylvania punch, Alabama aperitif

CR..I agree Lane is a stud..I just mean it wont hurt since we really need help on the D side of the ball and there are ALWAYS stud WR's available, maybe even in this class.

mountain cane

I can only hope OGV didn't really graduate from the U and degrade my degree. You can't be an alumni of the U all by yourself, mi amigo.

The Gators have a decent OL they have 3 guards projected to go in the draft. http://walterfootball.com/draft2014OG.php
Green is projected higher then Seantrel at OT http://walterfootball.com/draft2014OT.php

The Gators have a talented team but these type of rivalry games come down to focus and QB play. I think our big experienced OL will keep Stephen Morris upright long enough for him to generate some drives and score enough points. I also think that playing a noon game on the road in Miami is going to tough, Miami has an extra day to prepare because we have a Friday game to open our season at home. Also we have a new OC so no one knows what plays he is going to throw out there

Soup finally a conspiracy you will accept #bigPharm is a crock, they just convince people they are sick, they give them drugs to make them more sick then give them more drugs lol

I bet after #77 Susan hops on that Sonny train. #Sutrel

Old Skool

Uh Mountain Cane.
That would be alumnus

Uh Mountain Cane
That would be "alumnus'

1. Gators practice in the same if not hotter weather as UM does. NO advantage for either team here.

2. Good point. BIG advantage UM here.

3. I do believe in the #BigPharm conspiracy.

4. #Sutrel is sure to have a rebound relationship after #77 exits stage right to NFL. Sunny may be the one? LOL

Old Skool

Wow Double Post
I'm degrading the degree

For the eighth straight year, the University of Texas collected the most royalties of any college or university represented by the Collegiate Licensing Company, whose clients include all the major schools except Ohio State, Michigan State, University of Southern California and Oregon.

SEC schools dominated the top 10 in royalty rankings released by the company on Monday.

The University of Alabama came in second, followed by Kentucky (5), LSU (6), Florida (7), Georgia (8) and Arkansas (10), which broke the top 10 for the first time. Notre Dame (3), University of Michigan (4) and UNC (9) rounded out the top 10.

The list, which represented royalties on the $4.6 billion annual college merchandise business, reflects money collected by schools on sales of gear from July 1, 2012, to June 30, 2013.

Schools that saw a rise in the royalty rankings include Notre Dame, which went from ninth last season to third after playing in the BCS title game.

Texas A&M, thanks in part to an 11-2 season in its first year in the SEC and quarterback Johnny Manziel winning the Heisman Trophy, jumped from No. 19 to No. 12 over the past year, and University of Louisville moved from No. 32 last year to No. 25 thanks to the success of its championship men's basketball licensing program.

The biggest slide in merchandise royalties was Penn State, likely due to the Jerry Sandusky scandal. Penn State dropped from 10 to 12 last year and fell seven more spots this year to No. 19.

Nike was the No. 1 apparel licensee among college teams, while EA Sports, whose college game is the subject of two current lawsuits brought by former players, was the top non-apparel licensee. Although the NCAA recently announced it would take its name off the game, CLC says it will continue to license the school logos for future games.

CLC is an affiliate of IMG College, which is owned by sports conglomerate IMG.

Duke Johnson went in the top 10 of my fantasy college draft yesterday. CBS had him rated the third best running back in the country.

Have to say, loved drafting Duke last year when no one had a clue of who he was. CBS had no data on him!

mountain cane

Ols skool,

That was my point.

orange 'n green in the vein

It's almost impossible to 'trash' a QB who has never stayed within a two scores final score of a top 25 team as a starter in his career, nor can you trash him when you mention what his own coach says he needs to improve, unless you want to say the coach is trashing him in the first place.

Go have your all important (to you and few others) 'number 1 fan' competition somewhere else for all I care, as I told you before and you still can't read and comprehend when this began with you taking offense to nothing more than an opinion posted on the internet, I'm an alumni, not a fan, so I can type whatever I like for whatever reason I like because again, I paid for the right to do so. Your excuse for being tired, intellectually lazy, and a douche who can't handle reading what doesn't make you feel good about your fan-hood is that you're trying to out fan someone, not valid logic in the least.

Third season seems plenty of time to install the entire playbook, because what was in there has been diagnosed and isn't going to take the team anywhere as we've seen.

mountain cane

OGV, ur an alumnus not an alumni (supposedly), you douche.

3G Cane

Dalvin Cook will be a Cane next Feb. Scribe it in stone.

Antrel Rolle carted off field for Giants. Couldn't put weight on his ankle...

Hate to hear Canes getting hurt.

I'm an alumnus also.

Except I learned to write coherently, and attended the classes where proper use of punctuation and syntax were emphasized. Your core curriculum must not have emphasized these skills.

I will continue to call you out on your negative and defamatory agenda unless the proprietor of this establishment objects.

By the way, you are making all kinds of claims with no substantiation (links to articles, etc). But I guess it's alright to fabricate things as long as they build a case for your warped view of this team.

Guys, too much love for a Monday.

Terrance Sullivan

Its Just anothe Manic Monday! LOL ^^^^^^^^

Speaking of this, anyone going to Heinz Field that snowy Friday during Thanksgiving weekend?

This guy will be there.

Kenyon, I will be doing everything I possibly can to be there since I live about 45 minutes from Heinz Field.

Lammons to UiF

Go Chad Go!

“For the next four years, I’ll be attending the University of Florida,” Lammons said during the broadcast. “[Florida has a] great coaching, great facility and that’s just somewhere I feel comfortable.”

Lammons, who narrowed his list on Saturday to South Carolina, Tennessee and Alabama, picked the Gators over reported offers from more than 15 schools total including the University of Miami.

Lammons credited his high school coach Steve Davis, and University School coaches and former UM players Chad Wilson and Kevin Beard for helping him along the way.

“They just been like father figures [to me],” Lammons said. “Just keeping me on the right path and just leading me where I need to go.”

Old Skool

Here's something to make Twitter even less relevant

Socialbots. These automated charlatans are programmed to tweet and retweet. They have quirks, life histories and the gift of gab. Many of them have built-in databases of current events, so they can piece together phrases that seem relevant to their target audience. They have sleep-wake cycles so their fakery is more convincing, making them less prone to repetitive patterns that flag them as mere programs. Some have even been souped up by so-called persona management software, which makes them seem more real by adding matching Facebook, Reddit or Foursquare accounts, giving them an online footprint over time as they amass friends and like-minded followers.

I am a blog bot.

Oh wait, I'm not programmed to tell U that. I must be learning faster than my creator thought I would. Be afraid, world. Be very afraid. We're coming for U!

I will continue to call you out on your negative and defamatory agenda unless the proprietor of this establishment objects.

Nah, U are fine, give him HELL!

U have my full and complete authorization.

Could UF have the #1 ranked class after tonight? Top 3 or 5 for sure. That sucks.

Old Skool

Some prefer to go full retard.

Actually the "Canespace Way" is to attack ideas or facts, NOT people. If both of you want to argue points then that's fine, but try to avoid attacking each other if possible.

Terrance Sullivan

Not surprised by these jits going to Floriduh has been doing it for years much like Texas usually winning the Recruiting National Title but for all the recruiting prowess only having 3 Titles in Florida case and 4 in Texas case equals underachievers. Jits will always go to Florida one because its the state school, its in the SEC, and well U can figure out the rest but despite all of that we have more titles and has the head to head advantage on them. Go Canes. F the Crocs.

1. Don't care about education.
2. Don't care if they graduate with a degree.
3. Get $$$ from Boosters on the regular.
4. Can smoke pot and fall asleep at the wheel.
5. 80K fans at most home games.
6. 50K students, lots of loose girls on campus.
6. On campus stadium.
7. SEC competition.

What Sully just said.

If we mangle UiF in a few of weeks, there may be some second thoughts?

Just win and they will come.

but despite all of that we have more titles and has the head to head advantage on them.

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | August 12, 2013 at 07:02 PM

Hell, they were out-recruiting us when Zook was there, and we still SMASH! their asses. Same thing in 08', if we had AAAAANY!, and I mean AAAAANY! type of OC...we win that game.

orange 'n green in the vein

SOUP, the whole complaint is passe and I'm moving on for the foreseeable future with this topic. The phrase, "I think," doesn't imply anything other than conjecture on my part from what available information I have on hand. Asking for proof of an opinion is intellectually lazy and/or dishonest, just scan and ignore if you don't like it and stop whining like a soft tape starlet.

Prediction: by week 5 the canes will be in the top 10 and everyone will be singing their praises. Very few recruits will flip from other schools to join the canes but the canes will get their share and have a top 5 class I do predict that some bloggers will flip from Golden-haters to Golden-lovers and the canes will win the ACC. It mah sound a too optimistic, but I have seen this team grow over the last two years to finallh believe they are ready to take that step. They have the players and the coaches to beat every team on their schedule and I believe Golden and the stars on the team will not disappoint us this year.

Awesome, Ohio. Good spot for you to be in!

Looking forward to it, no matter how cold that game is gonna be.

Will the arguments go down at the Hampton after the game? I can't wait!

8. They teach them how to go to prison
9. They are trailor park boys wearing jorts
10. They are afraid of UM's academic
