News and Notes from #CanesCamp from www.hurricanesports.com:
· #100 Days Countdown to Kickoff: 15 days (Miami vs. FAU at 8 p.m. on 8/30).
· Thursday was the Canes’ third two-a-days session of #CanesCamp.
· Both Thursday practices were held on the UM intramural fields, while the grounds crew worked on the Greentree Practice Fields.
· After wearing a red (non-contact) jersey Wednesday, junior WR Rashawn Scott was back in a white offense jersey for Thursday’s practice.
· Sophomore RB Brandon Yosha remains in a red (non-contact) jersey, while sophomore DB Deon Bush and junior DL David Perry wore yellow (limited contact) jerseys.
· Thursday’s morning session started late after the campus’s lightning detection system alarm went off at 7 a.m. Practice eventually started after 8:30 a.m. The Canes wore full pads for the morning practice.
More weather delays hampered the start of the afternoon practice session. The Canes went without shoulder pads for the afternoon, practicing for 90 minutes amidst intermittent rain showers.
QUOTABLES
Al Golden on what the biggest things for Friday’s scrimmage…
“It’s time to cut the cord with some of these guys. It can’t be about yelling from the sideline. They’re going to have crowd noise and music. They’ve got to learn to signal. They’ve got to be independent thinkers out there. They’ve got to work collectively in terms of safeties to corners, safeties to linebackers, linebackers to the front. On offense, just getting the signal and playing fast. We’ll see who can play. It’ll probably be 40 to 50 plays with each group. Maybe a little bit more. I think we’ll get a break with the weather. Two nights ago it was nice at night. So I think the guys will be excited about that, and this will obviously set the way it is because it’s two weeks out from FAU.
Golden on how correctable tackling and completion percentage is…
“Well we’ve got to get the tackling squared away fast because that will rear its head in the opening, there’s no question. And you don’t want to be a day late on that. A bad tackling performance in an opener can destroy you so we’re trying to take care of that. Again, there’s excuse for the completion percentage to be the way it is with the experience that we have, with the protection that we’re getting, and the type of Quarterback that we have leading us there’s no excuse for that. So that was disappointing and we’ve got to get it fixed. But as I said, I’m worried about everything right now. We have a long way to go as a team and there’s a lot of practices between now and game week.”
Golden on whether or not the scrimmage will be like a game-like situation…
“Yeah, what we’ll try to do is have orange on one side and white on the other. Again, there’s a sense of comfort if you just go offense and defense because if I’m the second team guard I’m looking at Linder, I’m just waiting for when coach calls me. When they’re on that side, and you’ve got a first until on each side the three’s got to be ready to go. Guys come out and they’ve got to go in. They’ve got to pay attention. But I think the biggest thing is that they learn how to go on and off the field with the sub patterns and it makes them think fast so it’s important for us.”
Beau Sandland on whether spring was different than what he expected…
“I don’t know if it was different than I expected, but
it was definitely a transition period with everybody being bigger, faster,
stronger, smarter and everything at this level. You have to do everything by the
book and do your techniques and your right steps and foot placement or else
you’ll get exposed and stuff. I always said you could get away with it high
school and junior college maybe you wouldn’t get away with it this level with
the athletes and smarter defenders.”
Sandland on his biggest adjustment so far…
“Probably, like I said, maybe the speed. So much faster than junior college and all of the defenders do a way better job at jamming you up at the line and everything like that. Just a combination of all those things… the speed of the game and physicality and just having to know all of your footwork and hand placement and everything.”
Duke Johnson on the importance of Friday’s scrimmage…
“It’s a big deal. The first scrimmage was just to get them warmed up to what we’re going to be doing and how things are working and the other scrimmage is going out there and fighting for your position.”
Stephen Morris on how to improve on pass coverage and percentage…
“I definitely think that’s true. We definitely need to
improve on our completion percentage. I think that the best way to do that is
just take what the defense is giving you and not force anything. All camp we’ve
just been stressing just accuracy and decision making from the quarterback’s
room. And I think Coach Coley’s done an unbelievable job of really stressing
that every single day with us, not letting us forget where we need to be. We’re
trying to have 75 percent at the end of the day for practice. We’ve just got to
do the little things right. That comes with pocket presence, receiving the right
guys, finding the right targets, and never forcing stuff.”
Morris on the process of working on his footwork…
“That started after the (2012) season. Throughout the whole off-season, throughout spring, that’s just been my main concern is just continue to make myself better in the pocket, continue to improve my footwork. And other than that, everything will come after that.”
Morris on what he wants to see at Friday’s scrimmage…
“For the scrimmage tomorrow, I just want to see us compete. I just want to see the defense come out strong. I want to see offense respond well. I want to take care of players. You know, no stupid hits and no cheap shots and stuff like that. I just want to see the offense move the chains.”

Let's see here;
A team that has never been to the top of the conference and I see no reason why they'll be now;
The team that beat the national champs last year and has a long history of fanatical brown shirt support, real shaky limb you're climbing out there Pete Roussel, careful it doesn't fall;
Said three years ago UM would have a chance to win big, we'll see if that holds up in about two weeks, he also offers nothing to back up his believing that quote, unlike most of the others on that list, curiously, his favorite game must be Golden post game loss presser bingo;
Not sold, Freeze has a lot of hype and Ole Miss is still trying to make up the fact that they shouldn't have fired Duke's coach, can see it falling apart as much as I can see it working out at this juncture and there isn't a Manning walking through that door to play QB for them anytime soon;
Wanted Briles, among others, to be the hire over Golden two years ago, Baylor finally got over the mistake of what they did to Reedy a decade ago by getting Art to be their coach, not surprised if he takes them to yet another level than what he's already done because the guy is pretty awesome and almost beat Coker at Houston one year;
Bob Davie? Excuse me while I LMFAO;
And finally, guys done a great job in an off the radar place, will be getting a better job in an on the radar place in the next couple of years most likely so I agree with this one too, to a certain extent at least.

SOUP OHIO...Troll alert?
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | August 16, 2013 at 05:12 PM
NCAA making Dyron Dye sweat...NCAA is made of a bunch of SS...This association of clowns is so far away from it's mandate...To be there for student-athletes. Dye has paid his dues 780. $ was suspended for 4 games in 2011 and now the NCAA is playing mind games with a senior college kid's future...How low can you get NCAA...Johnny Manziel got at least 5 figures for signing autographs and he's going to walk away just like Cam Newton did. Then the Oregon case was settled in no time with sweet nothing. Of course one of the influent member on the committee on infractions is from The University of Oregon. Please Washington and dear Presidents from all the conferences put an end to this NCAA fiasco.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | August 16, 2013 at 07:58 PM
I think NCAA is a bunch of jerkoff Obama liberals who are power hungry idealists....but can anybody tell or show me how Dye has made any kind of contribution to this team when he came here? Those 3 guys from Seminole country were supposed to be The Father, Son and Holy Spirit....were all supposed to be unreal players....and none of them have done a damn thing in college football except take a free ride from a kid who could have helped the team. The guy has done nothing for UM football except take up a number....Really be honest...what has he done? Nothing!!! I don't care what happens with his case as it is of no merit to us or our team. I personally think he is lazy and kind of an entitled kind of guy. Use his ride to get a real player not a high school star college football wanna be!!!! JMO

Looks like Miami is gonna be rocking for the game against UF. I don't think any of the kids (correct me if I am wrong) on the team have really experienced a true Miami home field advantage. Golden will capitalize on the electricity in the air. The house will be so pumped up you could put SOUP in there at DT and he will look like an All American.
Posted by: The Dude | August 16, 2013 at 08:25 PM
I love your input VA, but why are you always hating on Obama man? The other side ain't any better bro.
Posted by: The Dude | August 16, 2013 at 08:34 PM
My god with all the political crap. I could give two craps if anyone is a liberal or conservative. Last I checked its a Canes blog talking about sports. F the NCAA whether they are liberals or conservatives i could care less. Geez. Sorry just get to tired of stuff having to come to politics.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | August 16, 2013 at 08:34 PM
The Dude, OSU in '11 was a pretty voracious crowd for being 3/5th's full.
FSU last year was about what they're going to get this year with UF.
So consider that a correction.
Terrance, as a liberal, I'm offended that anyone would lump a centrist technocrat like the president in with me. Moving on from politics now.

Soup,
Why is ogv allowed to spread negative rumors about Bunche? I thought this was fairly tightly controlled to keep out the nonsense?

I'll field that for SOUP, this board gets trolls, this board gets spam, people who volunteer their time try to do the best they can to minimize both. Since I don't have time to search every single post for veracity, I respond to what I find interesting and if that's a false rumor, that's not spreading rumors, that's responding to them.
But continue to push your personal problem with someone you don't know by distorting the facts of the matter like you know what goes on, please, continue mountain.

Sorry for the political reference; I despise both parties in particular, and the US govt in general. The NCAA is a bunch of academic individuals who know nothing about the game; unfortunately the pres, while a nice man is also an academic who does not know a lot about the real world; JMO. Will not bring him up again as I think he is a nice man weak leader. Sorry people are sensitive will not reference it again.
That in the rear view mirror, Dye has had no positive impact on the program as he has made no contributions. I am sure he is a nice young man, but his case matters nothing as he is taking up space, a # and a place on a roster for a better athlete who can help the program. Nice young man, not a contributor to wanting to win. JMO

Inaccurate medical information? Show me an Achilles tear patient who ever came back at 100% or even better than before, I'd love to see that and there should be so very many you can point out so very quickly. Isn't Dye out with an Achilles? He should be back and better than ever before since I'm so off base there, right?
As I said before, please, continue mountain.
VA C, NCAA = paralyzed bureaucracy for sure but seems to me to be about as apolitical as you can get.
Dye apparently loves tater tots enough to do anything he can to get them on his plate but I get the feeling UM has to kid glove him because they don't want to give him a reason to go full on NCAA evidence on them since he's already admitted to so much, as he should have because those are the rules he agreed to conduct himself by when he signed that LOI, and who knows how much else he could collaborate given the opportunity? The constant position changes certainly didn't help him become a contributor but he did somehow log eight TE starts last year which shocked me each week it happened as I had written him off before last season started.

I am not worried about the young mans eligibility, I am worried about fielding talent with an attitude of " winning isn't everything; wanting to win is the only thing". Damn I want to win. Give me guys with character who will make good grades and give me all they have.
I have a kid now who is enormously talented OL/DL. He has been in some trouble, comes from a bad background, horrible school record but wants to play. He CAN play big time. He has been late to 2 practices...real late. I pulled him aside and asked why? What is up? He said it should not be a big deal....I told him you came to me with baggage, trouble, and some issues and I let you come here, try to add you to my great chemistry....and its no big deal? Put potential poison in my stew? I told him if there is a ride problem, I will get him...but if your attitude is NBD with me, then get off my field now. I told him I want to help you overcome the past, I want your school to go well and I want your great talent...but its my way only my way...my other guys go by my rules and you will too. I think he got it; I hope so....but I will not be pressured to babysit a guy who cannot do it by my rules or has that attitude I am entitled...Dye seems to be that guy....want all the glory, education, thrills....give nothing in return....just like his 2 other boys who were supposed to be so great....none of them have done S#*T in a mans game....still little boys....JMO.
