LET'S GO CANES!!!

Regarding Louisville reinstating Hurtt, I don't think it has anything to do with Miami or when we will find out our punishment. I think this has more to do with Louisville wanting an important coach back, the top recruiter in the South Florida area. I could be wrong, but when an assistant coach gets in trouble, he is just suspended where as a player can be ruled ineligible and the team have to forfeit games. If there is no fear or forfeiting games, and worst case he gets suspended in the future, might as well let him back since you have a game in a few days. jmo of course

On any given day at the University of Miami, you might run across a 6-1, 325-pound bruiser cruising on four wheels down San Amaro Drive in Coral Gables.

Make way for Curtis Porter, dark shades and all, as he rides his longboard through campus.

“It’s soothing,” Porter said, “and keeps my mind off all the stress.”

Be assured that this starting Hurricanes defensive tackle knows all about stress. The physical ailments he endured his past four years at UM might make even the bravest among us cringe.

The broken bone in Porter’s right index finger protruded through the skin and was excruciatingly painful in August 2011. But that was before the finger got infected — twice. That season he made appearances in the final two games.

In 2010, after playing in eight games the previous season as a freshman, Porter was carted off in Game 2 at Ohio State with a season-ending knee injury during his first career start.

Ready to make his mark during fall camp of 2012 — he had finally earned the coveted black jersey that goes to first-teamers — Porter went down in practice with a knee injury. He vowed to overcome it, but after a subsequent rehab session, was in so much pain in his lower abdomen that he rushed to the training room.

“Bam!” Porter said. “My appendix almost burst.”

So off he went to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy — after which he got an infection and didn’t return until Nov. 1 last year.

In his last media appearance at UM before the Hurricanes’ opener Friday against FAU, coach Al Golden said Tuesday that the depth chart will not be finalized until game day.

“We’ll work through that,” he said. “A lot of those are going to come down to special teams.”

When do those decisions come to be?

“We’re telling them every day. They know exactly where they’re at, regardless of what they may say to you [reporters]. I’m always hammering home to the coaches to make sure they communicate that on a daily basis. We don’t want anybody not to know where they stand.”

BUSH’S STATUS

Golden is encouraged by safety Deon Bush’s recovery from June hernia surgery, but indicated it’s unlikely he’ll play Friday.

“It would be a bonus if he were ready, put it that way,” the coach said. “He’s cleared medically. We’ve double and triple checked to make sure we’re not putting the young man in any jeopardy. Now it’s a question of him playing fast in his mind, getting in great shape and playing at a better speed.’’

CORAL GABLES —

Reminded of Al-Quadin Muhammad’s boasting, Denzel Perryman just smiled and shook his head.

At Miami’s media day this month, Muhammad, a freshman defensive end, matter-of-factly told reporters he was ready to unveil pass-rush moves so unique they hadn’t been seen in the NFL.

“Yeah … yeah,” said Perryman, a junior linebacker. “I mean, he’s quick. He does have moves. I just can’t wait to see him do it in a game.”

Miami’s defense as a whole has much to prove a year after allowing the greatest number of points (366) in program history. The Hurricanes hope Friday’s 8 p.m. kickoff against Florida Atlantic starts a steady, strong season on that side of the ball.

Any improvement would be welcome. Last year’s 7-5 record came despite a defense that was the nation’s fifth-worst in yards allowed per game (486), the 11th-worst against the run and in the bottom 20 against the pass. UM produced 13 sacks, the fourth-fewest in the country. It also committed 88 penalties (tied for 100th) and “an inordinate number of mental errors,” coach Al Golden said.

They were too light, and too young. The ‘Canes went approximately 280 pounds at the tackle spots, 230 to 260 at the ends and 210 to 230 at linebacker. In the secondary, they leaned on true freshmen such as Tracy Howard and Antonio Crawford at corner, and Deon Bush and Rayshawn Jenkins at safety. Corner Ladarius Gunter was an inexperienced junior college transfer.

That kind of youth on defense will get you in trouble, Golden said, “and we got trouble.”

-Says pledge to Canes is still strong and he's not focused on other schools
-Going to focus on senior year and then offical visit to Miami
-Chaminade's offense will change from a ground based game to a more up-tempo passing attack this year.

Am I the only one kinda worried about the new Raising Canes video? lol...Either the DL/OL weren't going full speed in scrimmage, or those new guys are sloooooow lol.

LMAO!

I was thinking the same thing, but to give them the BOTD, those clips could've been well along into the scrimmage, where fatigue sets in...who knows.

But if it wasn't for that video, I wouldn't have known Earl Moore existed, haven't heard His name AT ALLLL! during camp.

UMike

CR..I thought they looked slow and I thought Reinfrow sounded like a Dr or something, way to well spoken and nice to be a DL lol...Those clips could of been situational stuff also, who knows, but it couldn't have been full speed lol

UMike

Since Monday I have deleted over 300 spam comments from the filter...they must know football season is close lol

I love Fall! Let's go Canes!!

50 years ago today the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr lead the March on Washington and gave his famous "I Have a Dream' speech. I don't think Dr. King is talked about enough, especially to our young people. Dr. King was a real hero, one who carried the weight of an entire race on his shoulders and died as a result. I hope we all spread his message of peace, non-violence and equality to our children and the young people around us. Civil Rights will continue to be an ongoing battle as hate still exists, but we cannot let Dr. King's message die.

Now back to your regular scheduled Cane talk..

I can't speak for the others, but Kamalu is not slow. Take a look at tower footage and watch him get off blocks.

I'm sure he'll get up to speed, but this ain't JUCO...even Sandland conceded that much.

UMike

LB, he may not be...and I'm sure Golden wouldn't recruit slow guys..but on the video they look slow lol..Must have been a walk thru type thing, or half speed etc, something.

UMike

There was one clip in that video were it looks like one of them, I think Rienfrow looks like he is running away from Bunche lol

LB

"I'm sure he'll get up to speed, but this ain't JUCO...even Sandland conceded that much."

I mean in Cane practice. He was whipping OUR offensive linemen off the block in the Oklahoma drill. Consistently.

UMike

LB, did you watch the Raising Canes video we are talking about? I am not saying he is slow, but if you watched he video you will immediately notice what we are talking about lol

LB

"LB, did you watch the Raising Canes video we are talking about? I am not saying he is slow, but if you watched he video you will immediately notice what we are talking about lol"

Yes, after I saw the footage I spoke of. It looked slow, but also a touch dated.

The McCord/AQM pass rush combination sounds really promising in conjunction with what we have.

UMike

Dated? It was from the last scrimmage lol

UMike

LB, I agree a bigger and more experience McCord and the raw talent of AQM sounds promising. And Gilbert was a started for a a major program. I'm just making fun of that video lol

Honestly, 3 Penny needed to put out something to preempt the FAU game. Unless it's what Duke Johnson eats at lunch, that's what they were left with.

Honestly, I never watch the PR videos. Give me the season opener that nature has promised me for another football season as a reward for making another trip around the sun successfully, even with The Pipe cheering for his team instead of the team that might have been his.

I thought the same thing!!!!

mountain cane

Given Porter's importance to the D-line and his frequent and odd injuries, I'd like him to suspend the longboard until about February.

Mississippi State's NCAA violations announced today in football marked the sixth major infractions case for the SEC in the past four years, tied with Conference USA for the most in that period. Once again, the SEC avoided a postseason ban.

I'm pretty sure she doesn't need to rip off the no talent spawn of a breaky heart ripping off a no talent lady gag hag ripping off a marginally talented Madonna since she just sold her house at the beginning of a recovery in the market, so, let's just not talk about that eye sore anymore than has already been done. Only 52 hours to go, no need to get distracted from a make or hot seat season for UM's coaching staff.

All men are created equal and should be judged on the content of their character and not on the color of their skin. Truer words have never been spoken. Go Canes!

I don't think anybody said they didn't want em'...what I recall us saying was..."If UM is your dream school, the put ya' money where ya' mouth is...DREAMER! Otherwise...STFU!"

At least that's what I thought we said LMAO!

And those highlights...MEHHHH! Kendall Thompkins had better HLs LMAO!

CaneRock

And hell, we already have Elder and Waters slated for the slot next season, so Berrios is not a priority AFAIC.
