This tradition actually started when CGNC, who is without a doubt a legend herself here on Canespace, started a series of player features with the same title. Three years ago she wrote features about former UM players QB Kenny Dorsey and TE Jeremy Shockey and called them "Legends of the Fall".
In our fan selection process true "Legends of the Fall" are those players who the fans feel will have outstanding or "breakout" season for the Canes on offense and defense this year.
It's not about simply picking the Hurricanes' best players, but your personal favorites among the UM players apart from the usual suspects and most obvious stars. Some bloggers choose first or second year players who are likely to break on the scene as freshmen or sophomores.
Five years ago those players were LB Sean Spence and WR Aldarius Johnson.
Four years ago the LOFs were QB Jacory Harris and DL Allen Bailey.
Three years ago they were WR Leonard Hankerson and CB Brandon Harris.
Two years ago it was RB Lamar Miller and LB Sean Spence as the LOFs.
Last year it was RB Duke Johnson and LB Denzel Perryman.
There are your unusual selections and surprises like kicker, punter and lead body slammer Matt Bosher who just happened to be the Canes 2008 MVP. Who woulda thunk it?
Other bloggers are more traditional or conservative in their picks and select juniors or seniors who are projected to finally have that one incredible breakout season that leads them to become a high round NFL draft selection.
These picks could really be any defensive or offensive player who may be primed to explode on the scene after a solid previous season or a spectacular Summer with Swasey. Offensive and defensive linemen may not be popular or sexy picks but they are just as eligible as any other position player.
And don't forget special teams standouts too who can change a game with that one big play that shifts the entire momentum of a game. Some bold predictions even result in selections of completely unexpected dark horse candidates for this honor like Sam Shields a few years ago.
Sam "Sticky" Shields went from being buried on the depth chart at WR to CB where he shined and eventually got drafted by the Green Bay Packers.
If these long-shot picks actually play out, the blogger (like OcalaCane seen above with Shields at CaneFest in 2009) who picked them look like an absolute genius. This is the most risky, but potentially most rewarding, approach of all.
Then again if you decide to take a leap of faith on a player and they don't ball out like you might have hoped or expected then you might wind up like old time blogger Cat5 who selected LB Arthur Brown or SolarCane who selected WR Thearon Collier and then well, U know what happens then.
It's your choice. Here are the 2012 LOF rules:
- Ineligible players on offense: Stephen Morris, Duke Johnson
- Ineligible players on defense: Denzel Perryman, Anthony Chickillo
- Pick one player on offense and one player on defense.
- Pick one freshman for "Freshman Impact Player of the Year".
- Pick one assistant coach or cooordinator for "Coach of the Year".
Now make your choices and you may win Canespace prizes (shirts, coffee, mugs) and other fun stuff like tickets to a 2013 UM football, basketball or baseball game. And remember: U gotta be in it to win it!
Bonus-Ms.Feliciano

For real though, here is what I propose that the official 2013 LOF rules will be:
U have to hit on two of three from the Offensive, Defensive and Freshman picks.
The coach and bonus picks (excluding Ms. F) are just tie breakers if there are many winners.
What say U?

From article above:
And Michel cited this: “What concerned me was Miami’s facilities,” Michel said, adding Georgia’s are nicer. “They should be more up to par. And the fan base is not too big, not what I would expect.”
Sooooo, Sony...we've probably been recruiting you since the 8th-9th grade, and you're just now figuring out we have a small fanbase...TRIFLIN'! lately?
And how many NCs has UGA's facilities produced lately.
How many NFL HOFers have those facilities produced lately.
Ask NFL HOFer Cortez Kennedy about those facilities.
Ask NFL HOFer Michael Irvin about those facilities.
Ask NFL HOFer Warren Sapp about those facilities.
GTFOH!

Another National Championship for the Miami Hurricanes this WE...
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Miami diver Sam Dorman continued his breakthrough performance at the 2013 AT&T National Diving Championships Saturday, capturing his second consecutive gold medal with a first-place finish in the 3-meter event.
Dorman, who earned his first career national championship in the 1-meter event earlier in the tournament, became the first double-winner by finishing with 487.40 points to grab the 3-meter gold.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama sophomore cornerback Geno Smith was arrested on one count of driving under the influence by the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office over the weekend, according to an online arrest report.
Smith, who was held on $1,000 bond, had worked his way into the starting lineup late last season, playing most notably against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game

Yes cc the word is spreading fast among recruits and High School coaches, unlike the majority of Head Coaches in major college football programs, Al Golden is fair and square.

As opposed to the other programs with Enhanced Recruiting, $35B facilities, tens of thousands of assistants and trainers, cloning chambers and secret access to an advanced cut of Star Wars Episode VII.

That sounds about right to me actually, now, the 'freshman' pick, is it a '13 class member (JUCO new signees eligible along with the rest of their class), a true freshman ('13 signees directly from HS) only, or a first year roster player (red-shirted last year, transfers who sat out last year, JUCO's all eligible)?
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | August 19, 2013 at 12:41 AM
He got three in basketball, two in football in Tennessee WWiN, so . . .
The Pimp will get him a March Madness net to cut down and that's six.
Right?

No sir, 3 in a row for basketball and 3 in a row for football. So 6 consecutive, how's that for accomplishments!
