Love the Space!! Been reading for years just don't post often. Love the knowledge everyone brings. 86 have any shirts in? I would like to sport it this season.

86Cane

David...the shirts are on order and will be delivered on 8/23, one week before the first game. If U want one then just find me at the games at East 5 (E5) at Sun Life. Shirts on Game Day are $10.

We are prolly going with the same design as last year: "I earned my SWAGGER, How 'bout U?" or maybe replace that with the "FULL SPEED AHEAD" slogan or "I stand with The U".

Plus we will have a SPECIAL edition commemorative shirt for the UM vs UF game. Can't say what that one is (TOP secret) but it will be very, very popular!

For those who cannot make it to the games I will also mail some out on Saturday 8/24 so people will have them before the first game.

If U have registered a FIRST! then the shirts are $10 mailed to U to just cover costs of the shirts and the shipping.

If U do not have a FIRST! then the shirts are $20 which also includes the shirt and shipping.

Old Skool

Statement from the Eagles

Riley Cooper will be seeking counseling and we have excused him from all team activities. This is all new territory and we are going to evaluate this timetable every step of the way. He will meet with professionals provided by the Eagles during this period of time to better help him understand how his words have hurt so many, including his teammates.

In other words, if he stuck around camp, he would have gotten his a__ beat.

Went to Bartow one time...forgot the name of the park, but it was one of those Saturday hangout spots, where all the girls were, and "cars ride by with their boomin' systems". We used to do "Chunky Sundays" in St.Pete to, good times. Had a good time in ole' Polk County.

LMAO! But yeah SOUP, I used to stay Lakeland, right down the road from Ray-Ray's stomping grounds (Kathleen). Used to go to Kelly Rec to hoop it up, and from what I saw, it's a looooooot of talent in that area...but a bunch of knuckle-heads also. Those kids there kill for NOTHIN'!

86Cane

Well, well, well...talk about an "unsung hero", check this guy out, never even heard of him:

2012 ALBERT BENTLEY MOST VALUABLE WALK-ON AWARD

2012 (Senior): Saw action in 10 games at long snapper ...Made Miami debut against Bethune-Cookman in place of injured snapper Sean McNally ...Walk-on ...Named Albert Bentley Most Valuable Walk-On Award at team's end-of-season banquet ...Earned letter.

Prior to Miami: Played defensive line at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio.

High School: Attended Archbishop McCarthy ... Earned second-team All-Broward honors for offensive line and third-team All-Broward for defensive line ... Was named team MVP junior and senior year ... Set school record for fumble recoveries ... Also wrestled and won two consistency awards ... Coached by Mike Spencer.

YUP, lots of athletic kids in the area, but lots of gangs in certain areas of Lakeland and Plant City in particular, not so much in other places. I went to two HS games at Lake Wales and Winter haven two years ago and no gang activitiy to be found, but LOTS of talent.

86Cane

Here is another un-sung hero and look where he came from and how Golden can find hidden talent:

2012 (Redshirt Junior): Played in three games before suffering season-ending knee injury against Bethune-Cookman ... Served as team's primary long snapper on punts ... Walk-on ... Earned letter.

2011 (Junior): Did not play, redshirted to retain eligibility ... Participated as a member of the scout team.

Junior College: Played for Jeff Chudy at Bakersfield College ... Named 2010 Special Teams Player of the Year ... Voted to the 2010 California All-Academic team ... Ranked the No. 1 junior college long snapper by Kohl's Kicking.

High School: Won 2006 Valley Championship ... Named to All-SEYL team and All-Area team

86 I'll find you before the first game. I tailgate near the D gate in the Blue Lot.

OFF TOPIC...SHARK WEEK:

Shark Week starts Sunday night on the Discovery Channel so what better way to get in the mood than to visit one of our local aquariums and get up close and personal with sharks?

Clearwater Marine Aquarium is offering a summer special for Hillsborough & Pinellas residents and they are also featuring a Shark-Feeding Tour.

The Florida Aquarium all kinds of shark-themed events and activities planned, including a scavenger hunt. Mote Marine has shark training sessions several times during the week.

Konger Tarpon Springs Aquarium has daily shark feedings.

U got it! Just go to E5 and look for the Canespace shirts on the peeps there.

The Dude

SOUP,

Great article as usual, but wanted to point something out.

Morris is one of three ACC signal-callers on the list, joining Tajh Boyd (Clemson) and Bryn Renner (UNC) and Logan Thomas.

Should read: Morris is one of four ACC signal-callers on the list, joining Tajh Boyd (Clemson) and Bryn Renner (UNC) and Logan Thomas.

Or: Morris is one of three other ACC signal-callers on the list, joining Tajh Boyd (Clemson) and Bryn Renner (UNC) and Logan Thomas.

The Dude

How's the new baby Ohio? We are still waiting on ours.

SOUP

Dude...thank U for that. Will correct.

"Poke" County [sic]? Actually, some long-time locals prefer "Imperial Polk" County. Why? I haven't the slightest idea.

OL Pondering Moving Canes Up List
-Says Miami is in his recruiting picture even though he didn't include him in his Top 10 (Bama, UF, FSU, UGA, MD, Ohio State, Rutgers, USCe, Tenn and Vandy for those who care)
-"The reason they weren't in the top 10 is they hadn't offered when I first made it, and I wasn't going to put a school in there that hadn't offered"
-Says he talks to Coach Coley and that he likes what he's being told. Miami has a chance to make it because his recruiting picture hasn't been clearing up
-Sees Miami as a place he can come to and contribute
-What he likes about Miami: "I like Miami's tradition with the NFL.." "It's just powerful. Recently Miami had 13 players playing in the Super Bowl for both teams. That speaks for the tradition there and they're trying to bring it back with the recruiting class this year with (Joseph) Yearby and all those guys."
-Still trying to feel things out with Miami. Now that they have offered he will seriously look into them more
Wants to get to six or seven schools in the next few weeks.

Al Golden might not have known it at the time, but the USA Today Coaches’ Poll was about to be released, and his Miami Hurricanes missed being voted among the Top 25 by two spots.

Not that Golden, a voter in the poll, would care one way or the other. Outside expectations don’t mean much, he figures, if they don’t translate to on-field production.

Regardless, the man whose team finished 7-5 last season spoke to the South Florida media with confidence Thursday about his newest roster, saying “the pendulum for the first time is really heavy on the competitive side,” and that coaches are doing “everything in our power to bunker, stay focused,” and not let the governing body of college athletics “disrupt our third consecutive training camp.”

Just two days away from the opening of preseason camp, Golden avoided saying “NCAA,” instead calling it “that four-letter word.”

Though he had hoped the NCAA would have delivered its sanctions to the Hurricanes before now, he said he is intent on keeping the team’s vision directed toward bettering itself for the coming season.

“It’s been an anomaly for sure since we’ve been here,” Golden said of the recent calm. “We know at some point there’s an answer coming.

“We have the right guys on the train right now. It’s a mature team. It’s a team that’s focused. I don’t need to remind them of what our goals are or what the mission is and what our standards are. It’s been quiet — knock on wood — because guys are too busy trying to get better and trying to take the next step.

“… I know you guys want all these nice stories with the music in the background and everything, but I’m telling you, I’m here to go to work. … Not a lot of talk right now.

“We’ve been through hell and back the last two years, and now we want to anchor in and close the doors and see how good we can get.”

Golden praised the fitness level of his players, indicating they are in better condition than last season and “markedly better than two years ago.”

“We’ll have another conditioning test [Friday],” he said, “but from all indications, we’re ready to crush it. We’re ready to dismantle it. Our guys are starting to understand the impact that strength and conditioning and nutrition has on their career.’’

Some examples of the “bigger” part: Defensive tackle Curtis Porter is 313 pounds, end Anthony Chickillo is 276 and linebackers Denzel Perryman, Jimmy Gaines and Alex Figueroa are 243, 240 and 238, respectively.

Other highlights from Thursday:

• Running back Eduardo Clements (neck) is expected to be cleared to practice.

• Incoming defensive linemen Julio Derosier and Umfomba Kamalu are expected for Saturday morning’s first practice.

• Duke Johnson will continue to return kicks, despite being given more carries.

• Gaines is ahead of Raphael Kirby in the middle, though there is an “or” between their names on the depth chart.

• One of the new members of Golden’s class is someone he knows quite well. Walk-on Greg Golden, Golden’s nephew, is listed as a 6-3, 192-pound freshman receiver out of Red Bank Catholic in New Jersey.

“I warned him,” Golden said with a smile. “I told him not to do it. But I’m happy for him. It’s a lifelong dream for him.

“He’s mature enough to understand that I’m the coach. From a social standpoint or from a workout standpoint, what happens in the locker room is his business. What comes from the head coach is my business, and I think it’s really important for him to understand that dynamic and that both he and I never cross that line.

“But certainly he has competed all summer and is in good shape, and I’m excited that he’s here.”

Now I thought that an intelligent, detailed and thoughtful guy like U would have researched that and figured it out already.

I mean it wasn't THAT hard, it came directly from the UM roster at www.hurricanesports.com and this post above:

LS 61 PAUL KELLY -OR- 6-1, 262, RSr. OR
60 SEAN MCNALLY 5-10, 205, RJr.

SS 61 PAUL KELLY 6-1, 262, RSr.
65 Brandon Linder 6-6, 317, Sr.

The team blew the conditioning test up. Now it's time to move on to the real challenge #Canes2013 #CampGrind

UMike

Bond will not be at UM this season.. Hoping to arrive in the Spring

That's what I needed to hear! That and we have 240 lbs. LBs that can run! Lets go Canes!

Hey defense, lets knock the sh*t outta someone this year!

The Dude

That's cool O_C. I'm nervously waiting, should be next week.

4-Real

Bond will only have a few hours of eligibility left by the time he reaches UM lol!

Da U N Houston

Man, 2 years ago our best LB was trying his hardest to get to 225lbs...... Now our lightest LB is 220!!! Even T. Cornelius is up to 225!

Not to look in the past but WTF was we doing about nutrition?

4-Real

^^^^ Enuff to get us in the top 10 & finish in the top 20.

Greg Oden signed with the Heat

orange 'n green in the vein

I think Morris and Duke will split any Heisman votes UM draws this year, and that's before you consider the fact that the 'it' QB this year is at Clemson in the ACC, so Morris should enjoy the preseason pub while it lasts. Staying healthy all season long for the first time since Shannon was coach would be a plus for him too obviously on keeping the pub rolling for his play.

Also, every single voting award is biased against UM players automatically, thus it's virtually impossible for any members of the team to win one unless they obviously lap the rest of the field of competition for it. So those facts leave only the one award that actually matters, the crystal football, which 2000 proved is still possible to have denied from the rightful owner thanks to a vote slight by biased pollsters. At least the four team playoff is going to mostly rectify that kind of BS though.

4-Reak, good point. We'll see how quick to the ball 2012's worst defense ever in school history is this year carrying some extra weight, not like opponents had much trouble running past them before they bulked up . . .

LMAO!
And PHUCK! to your previous about Him.

The Dude

OGV, the biggest problem with the D was assignments. They couldn't make even the most basic presnap adjustments. They were better tacklers than any RS team and I believe this year returns a lot of talent. The LBs and DBs just let guys go uncovered too much. God forbid the other team moved a TE to the otherside of the formation, cuz that'll be a TD. Obviously we also couldn't get pressure with our front 4. Being bigger and stronger up front has to help. Plus it honestly couldn't be any worse. So far, DNO is the worst in modern UM history. Our D should never be as bad as it was last year. Hopefully he's learned how awful he was last year and pulls his head out of his @ss. Go Canes!

CoCane

So will Bond be a Jr or Soph this year?

CoCane

As long as they don't give 10 yard cushions on 3rd & 5 or less, the D will be a little bit better. Lol

tjl3909

I hate Va Tech but I hope they beat Bama

Sarasota 'cane

If Oden's foot is truly healed then the Heat just picked up a steal @1 million a year!! Foot injuries are a byotch though so it's hard to get too excited. Time will tell...

Sarasota 'cane

I wish VT luck but I'm pretty sure that Alabama is gonna wipe the field with them.
