Nuff said Soup ;-)

SOUP

OGV...maybe 40-43K in attendance, but not phity. It was a good crowd considering the opponent. The tailgate party was great except that Canezilla was in the ORANGE lot and not the GREEN lot. He's a punk like that.

FAU COACH CARL PELINI QUOTES:

What did you take out of the game defensively?

Well to me that’s a discipline issue. That was an awfully good back we were going against, I’ll give them that one. The reverse was a busted assignment. We just fell asleep. That’s something that we worked hard on throughout the spring and throughout the camp. It was disappointing to see that happen. We just busted it and whoever was responsible for it didn’t go with it. And so we’ve just go to keep getting better. But I thought we battled. I think we’re more physical than we were a year ago. At times we tackled better. But we’ll learn a lot from this tape and you’ll see a much-improved defensive football team next week.

On being outsized by Miami…

There were times when their size, especially on those stretch plays to the outside. You know they’d get on to some double teams and get some more, just through sheer size. But we’ve got to do a better job at just executing our movements and that’s when, when you’re playing against a team like that, that’s bigger than you, you’ve got to be able to move. You’ve got to be able to make plays and at times we did. We did a pretty good job, sliced through there and made some plays. And at times I don’t think we executed our movements as well as I’d like to. Again, we’ll learn a lot from this game plan and build from it.

How disappointing was it to get the false start penalty on the one-yard-line when you probably could have gotten back in the game with a touch down?

That was very disappointing. I thought there were a couple things; we had a couple big drops. That penalty was especially costly, the mistake on the reverse. Those are things where, I feel like, against a team like Miami, you just can’t make those, you can’t hurt yourself. You can’t spot them, those plays. Those are things you’ve got to correct. At times I thought we were pretty efficient and disciplined, that’s why those mistakes were so disappointing, you just can’t do it, not down there in the red zone. It’s too hard to score in college football these days.

Why did you decide against going for it on the fourth down?

Every coach is a little bit different. At that point, it put us down by two scores. If I felt like we were in a rhythm offensively, I think maybe I would have decided differently. But I always think about not the point differential as much as the number of scores we’re down. You get down by 20-6, put us two scores down and I thought it was the right decision to make.

You talked all week about not putting everything into this game. Now you have a short week. Do you think you’ll find out tomorrow what you think they’ll be for your conference opener?

I don’t want to misrepresent what I was talking about. What I was talking about was I don’t want to be an up and down football team. I want to be a team that approaches every game the same. It doesn’t matter who the opponent is. That you’re ready to play, you play the same way, play with the same kind of effort. I think when you’re building a program that’s an important lesson to teach your guys. You can’t be on a rollercoaster ride for 12 games. I thought we invested in this game. I thought I players played hard. I think they prepared well. It wasn’t perfect but we certainly are a much-improved football team, we’ve got a lot to build on. The old adage is always correct. There’s a lot of new faces out there and you can’t simulate game situations, game speed. That film tomorrow at one o’clock is going to be very important and we’ll look at it, correct our mistakes, and move on. The greatest improvement has to happen between week one and week two.

The Dude

I'm optomistic for next week. I feel like we should win. Will know for sure by the end of the first qtr. I wonder if we will be ranked 25 with Oregon St and Kansas St losses.

Agreed?

orange 'n green in the vein

First quarter, I remember saying, wow, that's a lot of people for FAU when they showed the stands from the end-zone camera but second half it was empty it looked like. It was a good move putting that game on a Friday night, get some people out there to get an early buzz on before going to the clubs after halftime.

WWiN, sandbagging is about the only answer I can give you for most of the wackness you saw last night. Really frustrating opener, Morris looked like he checked out once the drops cut into his Heisman campaign and Duke turned it on to open it up on the scoreboard. Cooley is going to have to prove he's the man for the job and if I see a WR bubble screen Saturday, it's clobbering time.

Aaron Murray = SEC's Matt Barkley. And you all know how highly I think of that media hyped joke . . .

The Dude

We have to win this weekend or the head to head record will be tied. We need to deserve victory. These Canes need a taste of beating down Gators. OLine needs some SWAG.

SOUP

MIAMI PLAYER QUOTES:

HERB WATERS

On the reverse…We’ve been preparing for that since camp started. I was ready.

On Stephen Morris blocking downfield on the reverse…We don’t really allow him to block in practice. Things are different in game time, in live situations, and I just read off him. I could count on him to make that block, and I used my ability to take it to the touchdown.

AL-QUADIN MUHAMMAD

On his first play and the rest of the game…
After the first play, I got a little bit comfortable. As the game kept going on, I got a little more comfortable and confident. Next week, I can really do me and be the real Al-Quadin Muhammad.

On his performance tonight...It was okay. I’m not excited about it. I’m not happy about it. I’m looking forward tomorrow to watching a lot of film, and preparing for next week.

STACY COLEY

It was your first college game, were you nervous...Like you said, it was my first college game. Coming straight out of high school, there are more fans. It is moving fast. I have to put this behind me, and move forward.

On going through the smoke for the first time…It feels great man. Just to have that opportunity and run through the smoke, it was a blessing.

EDUARDO CLEMENTS

On getting one carry after another…I didn’t know I was going to get five straight carries. I just went with the flow, and with every chance that I got, I ran the ball like I was supposed to.

BigWindyCane1

Sony Michel's team doesn't look too good against Clemson.

orange 'n green in the vein

The Dude, coach is RB's to me. Even with Edwards getting that TD not reviewed onto the scoreboard.

FAU's offense was so bad with the three different backups at QB, each one less useful as the one before, that the defense not giving up a touchdown was basically a given even if they played 11 on 10 all night.

This is correct.

Over 50k paid (includes all no shows including season ticket holders)

Over 40k actual attendance via turnstile count (not really a turnstile for the smart alecks - electronic count)

Take those numbers and I come up with at least 60 thousand canes fans at stadium on Saturday for turd game

LOL. Don't make me relieve myself on your rug Lebowski.

You're Clemson, you're ranked in the top 10 preseason. You beat a team that had one good win last year. Do you really need to rush the field against a team that hasn't won a national title in a generation?

SOUP

ABSOLUTELY, YES U DO!!!

ElCaneFreak

Defense was much improved from the team that couldn't stop BCC from running the ball last yr. FAU got in the endzone on Bama last yr & 2 tds in the 1st quarter on UGA. Our D kept them out with their backs against the wall. Improved tackling and pressure on the QB from the D line is something we haven't seen in 2yrs+ Skies the limit if the D keeps improving.

Let's beat them Gayturds, Go CANES

SOUP

Richt is officially on the HOT seat.

The Dude

And they have S. Carolina next week. It doesn't get any easier for Georgia.

The Dude

If Georgia fires Richt, the question becomes who is available to get? Richt's teams are usually pretty good, just not top 3 and winning BCS games.

Coley

Coley, not Cooley. COLEY. WE HAVE TWO COLEYS. No Cooley. Ok.

The Dude

Boise State got hammered. UW might jump us for that Top 25 spot.

How do y'all think the Gaytors did in their warm up game?

Old Skool

Mike James survived the final cut for the Bucs.

LOL SOUP, SOMEBODY HAS TO HOLD THE ORANGE LOT DOWN. GET 12 BEERS INTO THE VILLAGE GIANT AND HE WANTS TO FIGHT EVERYONE. INCLUDING HIS OWN FANS. IT JUST GOT OLD. HE CAN STAY OVER IN THE 1972 ALUMNI GREEN LOT. POLICE ARE ON THE WAY LOL

CGNC

Skool, that is good news for smiley. I hope he does really well

The Wizard

Anybody have any info on Seabury decommitting from the Criminoles ?

BigWindyCane1

Duke Johnson is still leading college football in rushing with week one nearly completed.

More to follow from the tailgate MUCH later today.

Like UM, they were 'meh.' They were missing some good players. But my recollection of season-openers against patsies in the Swamp was that if the Gators were good, their opponent got destroyyyyyed. It's a very potent home field advantage for a crappy team to have to face. Against the likes of Toledo, any game where UF fails to break 40 points has to be deemed disappointing.

The Gators are quite beatable. They aren't terrible, but they certainly don't have me quaking in my shoes.

BigWindyCane1

The Canes have a good shot at making the top 25

IraqiCane

Thanks DJ.

what's the situation on Duke Johnson? Is he hurt at all?? Everything is always hush hush. Also, that stadium is so big, that any decent crowd would look small in comparison to our beloved Orange Bowl. It will never look full.

HawaiiCane

Duke will be just fine! Also, MaryLouAlumni, you maybe haven't read the reports for this weeks game. If you aren't there in person, watch on ESPN or ABC or whatever. Sun Life is going to be CRAZY!

Pre83

On the not so positive side of big time football, I believe I counted 11 former Canes who were cut this past week.

Teams are reshuffling rosters in advance of the reg season, so some may still land with a team, perhaps the practice squad.

I've been waiting five years for Sep 7 to get here! Order your belts , shoes & handbags now!!

MaryLouAlumni

Thank you so much HawaiiCane

TonyCane

What's concerning is that FAU is the second worst team that we will face this season, and we had a pedestrian effort against them. I think all of us were hoping for a 40 to 50 point win.

On the positive, I a 28 pt win will prevent any overconfidence going into the Florida game.

@flasportsbuzz: Hialeahcoach Mark Berman said QB Alin Edouard told him today he's decommitting from UM.Said Edouard felt UM wasn't giving himmuch attention.

VA Cane

Said Edouard felt UM wasn't giving him much attention.

The Beatles said it "Cry baby cry, make your mother sigh, you're old enough to know better, so cry baby cry".

If you want attention, dance like Mylie Cyrus or join the Army. Just play your Sr year and let life flow. If that's the way he feels, then it may be better for both parties to cut the cord now. I hate drama, crybabies in the real world and I am not a babysitter. Send him a diaper and a binkie if he's that hurt. Damn the Drama!!!!

Jaques Patrick which is Seabury's bro got a text from Coach Golden last night at 12:01 am. the first day he could contact him....
