Hurricanes men’s basketball coach Jim Larrañaga has been appointed as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Kinesiology and Sport Sciences at the University of Miami, the school announced Friday afternoon.
“We are delighted to have an exceptional educator like Coach Larrañaga join our Department of Kinesiology and Sport Sciences,” said Dr. Isaac Prilleltensky, Dean, School of Education and Human Development. “He is a fantastic teacher on the court and in the classroom and our students stand to gain much from his experience and expertise.”
Due to his head coaching responsibilities, Larrañaga will serve as a guest lecturer at several different classes in the School of Education and Human Development throughout the semester.
“I’ve always seen myself as an educator; I graduated with a degree in education and I always planned to be a teacher,” said Larrañaga. “I’ve had the great pleasure of teaching young men the game of basketball, but I was also a member of the faculty in the school of management at George Mason University. That provided me an opportunity to interact with a large number of students and to be in a classroom environment, which I enjoy very much. Being a member of the faculty of the University of Miami School of Education and Human Development will give me the opportunity to interact with more students than ever before.”
Larrañaga and the Hurricanes begin official practice next Friday, Sept. 27, then open the 2013-14 season with an exhibition game against Florida Tech on Oct. 30 before starting the regular season on Nov. 8 against St. Francis (N.Y.).

Atlanta is only 2 hours for me, so we go every other year. But it is really a nice place for a game. The GT fans are good, the setting is excellent. Its a college feel, but right in the city. We have our own parking garage to ourselves to tailgate also! lol
Posted by: UMike | September 26, 2013 at 10:07 AM
I hear you Umike, if the money is right and i can afford it then most def ill be there next year. might even drive there if anything.
We have soemthing speacial happening in Coral Gables, and i think all of the coaches in teh NCAA know that they better get their wins in now because who whoever plays UM will be getting there shit pushed in lol.

I'm not so sure. I know VT hasn't played anyone outside Bama opening weekend, but their D is still pretty good. I'm wouldn't call for a GT win just yet, but an interesting game non-the less.

Ga Tech wins tonight......
Posted by: raizecane | September 26, 2013 at 01:22 PM
GT wins by 2-3 TDs
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | September 26, 2013 at 01:24 PM
GT might win, but if they do it will be closer. This is the first decent D that GT has faced imo. Im not sure who I WANT to win lol..who helps Miami the most by winning? lol
Posted by: UMike | September 26, 2013 at 01:31 PM
va tech beats gtech and brings gtech down back to earth in which then UM whoops on their ass!!!

CR..agreed..and D. Jackson, kid might be a 4-star before signing day. Miami really found a gem with him.
Posted by: UMike | September 26, 2013 at 09:44 AM
I think D.Jackson will start off RS'ing, BUT I do like His upside though...basketball background, good length, good athleticism.

Good read...
Jeremy Hill was a victim.
Well, a victim of the cell phone video era if you consider the LSU tailback was caught on tape in April sucker punching a man from behind.
It was that "gotcha" moment -- that act alone -- that makes it hard justifying Hill playing in Saturday's showdown at Georgia. But there is more. Without that video we're left with just an allegation, not damning proof that a prized LSU player assaulted a man -- while on probation for another legal entanglement. For the punch, Hill pleaded guilty to a simple battery misdemeanor and was sentenced to probation and community service. At the time he was on probation after pleading guilty to carnal knowledge of a juvenile while in high school, another misdemeanor.
Maybe it's time to redefine who the victims are in this week of the mammoth LSU-Georgia game. It doesn't particularly matter what I think about Hill being in uniform Saturday in Athens. The debate seems to have blown over. It is barely a talking point five weeks into the season. Hey, man, it's time for some footbaaaawl!
But I just can't get the episode out of my mind. Don't forget coach Les Miles was heavily criticized for allowing the players to vote Hill back on the team in the offseason. But then -- poof! -- the issue evaporated. In the end, Hill apologized to his teammates and paid what seems like a less-than-stiff price. He was suspended for five quarters -- the opener against TCU plus one quarter in the home opener against Alabama-Birmingham.
Maybe we're all immune these days. Maybe we shouldn't care about a couple of misdemeanors that have been adjudicated. A star is back on the field, get over it.
Still ...
None of it reflects well on Miles, LSU and the SEC. Carnal knowledge of a juvenile? That punch? Think if Hill were your son or -- worse -- the victim of that blow. The legal process is one thing. The right thing is another.

I predict we start out rusty, with a Savannah State hangover, and then get rolling. Final 38-10 with us finally scoring a field goal---which is a good thing, because we may need one at some point.

Im in!
Dem Canes!!!
Posted by: NativeCane | September 26, 2013 at 06:24 PM
Sully...here are my reasons:
1. The Bulls actually have a good defense.
2. Miami will come out slow and lazy (from the SS "hangover").
3. Golden and Coley will approach the game conservatively.
4. Penalties and T/Os by UM will equalize it some.
5. Canezilla will be drunk at 10 AM in the morning on Tequilla.
6. RaizeCane will make him look like a beginner drinking Capt. Morgan like water from a 1.75 LT.
7. NativeCane will rastle a REAL live Gator in the parking lot and lose a finger. He'll wrap his hand in a towel and walk right into the stadium like nothing happened.
8. Old Skool will observe from a far and just shake his head while wearing some sort of crazy Indian Jones hat and dark sunglasses.
9. OGV will be there and pounding beers like nobody's bidness at 9 AM. 18 beers later he'll decide to go into the game just for kicks.
10. Mrs. 86 will take a nap at Halftime and wake up at the end of the third quarter and ask: "What's the score? and "When can we go home?""
