UMike

As much as everyone think this will be a massacre..I don't think so. In recent years Miami has struggled to REALLY blow out bad teams. IDK what it is, but every time we think 63-3, it ends up being 41-10 lol

Ohio_Cane

Feel like laughing? Read this pre-game write-up from Dan @ CIS:

Funny stuff

Ohio_Cane

UMike, this isn't Bethune-Cookman. This is Savannah State. They have 53 rushing yards in 3 games.

I know what you're saying, but this won't be closer than 41-10 at half.

Ohio_Cane

In fact, I'll go as far as to say the only way they score a TD is if it's in the 4th quarter and 3rd team is in. Even then, it's unlikely.

UMike

Ohio..I think a 49-3 final sounds good. We will score early, but will also have some dump plays and penalties that stall drives and the youngsters will make their share of mistakes. Also, Golden is not going to beat them 80-0 even with 3rd sting guys just out of respect lol

Ohio_Cane

I'm going 66-0

UMike

I think a TD is very likely..one miss tackle or blown play is all it takes lol..should be interesting though.

I kinda agree with UMike here.

Golden will not go for the juglar, it is not his style to try to earn votes or style points by running it up. It may end up 51-6 but prolly not 72-3.

Tammz

Hurns needs to learn how to get beyond the first down marker on third down. He is chronic in his inability to get that extra yard.

SOUP

Dude...did not mean to come off too harsh on U buddy (which I prolly did?) but I don't know IF U remember when I asked on the blog for everybody to name TWO things they would like to see improve about the Canes. Several people named several things and it was AFTER that that I said on Friday 9/13:

My two things would be:

1. The UM offense has to convert more third downs.

2. The UM defense has to get off the field on more third downs.

Posted by: SOUP | September 13, 2013 at 09:25 PM

Go back to the last blog and look up the convo before and after 9:25 PM on 9/13 and U will see it. I know that comment is not EARTH shattering but it was my take and not shared by everyone, that's all I am saying.

And IF it was shared by everyone then WE were all correct!

Just kidding with you SOUP, its all good. Technically its all you anyways because w/o the blog, where would we be? Lol.

The Dude

I will be surprised if Duke touches the ball more than 15 times. Also will be surprised if Morris starts the second half. Williams gets the 3rd qtr and Crow should get the 4th. I think we shut them out and score 50 plus. I'll say 59-0.

What's the tailgate plans? I'm doing the two hour drive one way day of the game so I need to know how much lead time I have to give myself to get there, then afterwards I'm hitching a ride back because I plan on being still too drunk to drive.

mountain cane

Sav St is in a whole different category of bad.

Ga Southern put up 77 against them.

the noles beat them 55-0 last year. Not too bad you say? The game was called with almost 9 minutes left in q3 for lightning. And from the second qtr on it was played with running time.

SOUP

1. SOUP U MAILING THE USF TICKETS?

2. U COMING TO THE SAVANNAH ST GAME THIS WEEKEND?

Posted by: canezilla | September 16, 2013 at 02:13 PM

1. Just spoke to UM ticket office. Tickets are being "allocated" today after the game time was announced. They will be mailed this PM or tomorrow AM and being in my greasy mitts by Thursday. I can mail them or just bring them to the game what ever U want but mailing them is more work?

2. NEGATIVE. It is another "Wifey Weekend" as I am still trying to "earn" that trip to the ACC title game. My two tix and parking pass are going to my brother who lives in Kendall so we will still be representing.

Account Deleted

No disrespect to the players for SS who will play their best, but this game is more like a full speed/contact scrimmage.

Work on fundementals, get some reps for backup players, and stay healthy.

Don't think we'll learn much about where we're heading with this one....

j.w.

I'm guessing it will be 38-0. At Half time. End of game- 59-7

Could've used Rayshawn in the UF game:

Since we are coming from everywhere I say we should arrive 9 AM at Ray-Jay Stadium.

Park in North Lot #4 (cash): Take Dale Mabry N/S to north side of Stadium and turn R/L onto MLK Jr Blvd. Go to Himes street and turn R. Enter lot through entrance E4 and park in Lot 4 next to stadium on NE side.

Text/call when U are set.

DoctorCane

WWIN,

Can you please allow UMike onto your bus? UMike needs to feel what it is like to ride the bus with no brakes careening down the mountain pass, with windows shut and doors lock, with no seat belts to keep one from major injury,... yet with the expectation that all will be great at the end of the trip.

I understand that membership is now closed, but you would probably need to drag UMike into the bus even if he were given the chance, but we really need to cure UMike of his chronic expectationmoderationitis.

Pretty please!

We should be 5-0 and ranked in the top 10 going into the UNC game. Will be a big day

Condolences to the folks in DC.
On another note, that's FUQED UP! what happened to Johnathan Ferrell in NC! FYI, we actually recruited His Brother Willie coming out of HS. O_C, I wanna say "we should beat them", but that GT Triple Option is a BITCH! to defend for 4Qs...EVEN! with the average players that they usually have on offense. And add to the fact that they added a few wrinkles to their offense, they're playing a simpler D, and they gave us all we could handle last year...IDK, I just think that's one where we can slip up if we don't show up to play.

Senior back Marcus Shaw carried the ball 21 times for a career-high 153 yards, but turnovers continued to hamper the USF offense in a 28-10 loss to FAU on Saturday night before a crowd of 33,792 at Raymond James Stadium.

FAU (1-2) scored two touchdowns off USF turnovers, including a 75-yard interception return by D’Joun Smith that gave the Owls the final winning margin with 3:12 remaining in the fourth quarter. USF’s first turnover, a mishandled handoff by quarterback Bobby Eveld (Tampa), resulted in a 10-yard return for a touchdown by Cory Henry that gave FAU the game’s initial lead less than 5 minutes after kickoff.

“Offensively we just continue to turn the ball over. I’ve never been a part of something like this,” head coach Willie Taggart said. “Not only are we turning the ball over, but we’re turning it over for points. When you turn it over on your side of the field it’s not good. It’s frustrating when you see it three times in a row.”

USF’s inability to produce on offense spoiled another stellar effort by its defense that gave up 228 total yards a week after surrendering just 155 yards at Michigan State. True freshman linebacker Nigel Harris (Tampa) got his first-career start at the weakside position and posted a game-high 12 tackles while DeDe Lattimore’s interception in FAU territory set the Bulls’ offense up for its lone touchdown late in the first quarter.

“We have to take care of the football. I thought our defense played well and I thought our special teams played well,” Taggart said. “Again, it’s our offense. We have to find a way to create some offense and create some points. We’re not doing that right now.”

The Owls grabbed a 7-0 lead with 10:29 remaining in the first quarter when Eveld’s mix-up on a handoff resulted in a 10-yard recovery for a score by Henry.

“It’s not like we’re turning the ball over on their 30-yard line and our defense goes out and plays. We’re turning the ball over for touchdowns or on our side of the field and that just kills you,” Taggart said.

From what I saw in the Spring and the beginning of this season, the Canes could really use Scott. When Scott is focused and healthy, he has speed, runs good routes both deep and short, gets open consistently and has eliminated the drops.

BigWindyCane1

Rather than focusing on the score, I hope the Canes focus on what Golden is trying to instill - execution and play mistake-free football.

The Canes need to eliminate the following and everything else will take care of itself:
1. missed blocks,
2. missed tackles,
3. missed assignments,
4. dropped passes,
5. poor throws,
6. poor route-running
7. Out of position
8. penalties
9. lack of concentration

If the Canes can use this as an opportunity to execute the game plan as flawlessly as possible, they will be just fine for Savannah State and for the rest of the season.

Coley will likely only call a handful of plays, but execution is always the key. If the Canes are going to win the ACC, including beating FSU, they will have to eliminate the correctable mistakes that they made in abundance during the first two games - mistakes made on both sides of the football.

The Canes are deep and experienced. Al Golden has built this team around this personality - tough, strong and smart. They can do it.

Breakout players on Saturday? Not necessarily for the rest of the season, but player(s) who have a great game against Savannah State.

I'm going with Stacy Coley, Artie Burns and Gus Edwards.
