THE FIVE BIG THINGS THAT U NEED TO KNOW:
Miami ranks 4th nationally in pass efficiency and red zone defense.
Miami’s offensive line has allowed only two sacks in 3 games (5th).
Miami’s defense has allowed only two touchdowns in 3 games in 2013.
Duke Johnson is tied for 11th nationally in all-purpose yards per game.
The Duke is the only player in UM history with 3 kickoff returns of 95+ yards.
HOW DO U SPELL CLUTCH? WELL, CLIVE OF COURSE!
How clutch has junior TE Clive Walford been for the Miami Hurricanes offense? 17 of Walford’s last 18 touches has resulted in either a Miami first down or touchdown. Walford has 7 catches through the first 3 games of 2013. Five have resulted in a first down, one resulted in a touchdown and the other was an 8-yard gain.
THIS IS JUST FOR KICKS:
Sophomore PK Matt Goudis more than doubled his career PAT total on Saturday, connecting on a school-record 11 PATs during a 77-7 win over Savannah State. Goudis became just the 10th kicker in the last 15 years of college football to go at least 11 for 11 on extra points in a game. Goudis is a perfect 20-for-20 this season on kick attempts (18-18 PAT, 2-2 FG).
The plan is for UM fans to travel with their team to Tampa and cheer the Hurricanes on the vicotry. We will arrive in Tampa on Friday night, have dinner and arrive early at Ray-Jay for the scheduled beatdown of the Bulls.
Then we will take their women and leave town on our victory tour 12% bus.
That is all.
OKay

I don't bet on games but I will tell u this:
I would not have bet to cover a 60 point spread vs SS but I would bet to cover 18.5 points vs USF.
Posted by: SOUP | September 23, 2013 at 10:40 PM
18.5 IS SUPER LOW. WE SHOULD COVER THAT REAL EASY

The Canes are unbeaten, No. 15 in the AP poll and pounding toward what they hope is an Atlantic Coast Conference championship — but that will be up to the NCAA as much as it’s up to Canes players.
There is a word for a situation like that.
Helpless.
Yet Golden has held his program together and moved it forward.
“We couldn’t have asked for Al to be a greater champion through all this than what he’s been,” James said. “I can’t say enough positives for how I feel Al’s handled this situation he completely inherited.”
This is the long cloud over our civic parade.
So much to love in major Miami sports right now. The Canes and Dolphins both are 3-0 together for the first time since 2002. The defending champion Heat are about to open training camp in search of a three-peat. Panthers hockey is unfurling. Youth and talent embodied in pitcher Jose Fernandez make the Marlins’ future seem bright.
But that sledgehammer poised over UM football demands an eye both weary and wary.
The Hurricanes thought closure finally was at hand back in June when, after receiving the official Notice of Allegations, UM presented its defense to the NCAA Committee on Infractions in Indianapolis, where college’s governing body is headquartered.
A final verdict was expected in six to eight weeks. It has been almost 14 weeks.

Miami’s self-imposed penalties have been extraordinary. The football program already has previously suspended eight involved players for 19 games, reduced scholarships and borne two consecutive seasons of postseason bans. That has cost UM two bowl games plus last year’s chance to play in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game for a spot in the Orange Bowl Classic — perhaps once-in-a-lifetime stuff...Greg Cote nailed it right in this article.

Some quick Canes hits (Please see below for 1:30 p.m. updates with Heat and Dolphins notes):
### UM said Stephen Morris threw during UM’s light practice today -- he wasn't a full participant in practiced -- and Al Golden indicated he expects him to play Saturday against USF.
“He looks good,” Golden said, noting this is not as serious as the ankle issue that forced him to miss the end of last year’s North Carolina game. (Morris was able to start the next week.)
### The perception of Ryan Williams around the program has improved. Golden noted that he has improved by changing his mechanics and using his feet more to escape pressure. “He doesn’t have an arm [as strong as] Stephen’s, but that doesn’t preclude him from being a very good quarterback,” Golden said.
### People who have watched UM’s closed practices during training camp have said they’re impressed with how freshman quarterback Kevin Olsen threw the ball. But in some pointed remarks, Golden made clear Monday he expects more. A lot more.
“He has to improve the mental aspects,” Golden said. “He hasn't owned the process. He can't waste this year. He's got to get better. When we're not throwing, he's got to be throwing anyway... [and] watch how Steve and Ryan conduct themselves....”
In other words, don’t get too comfortable, kid, and think you don't have to work harder at this. Golden sent the message he clearly expects more. (Susan Miller Degnan will have more of Golden's comments on Olsen and the quarterbacks in a story to be posted later.)
### Malcolm Lewis, who has essentially fallen to sixth on UM’s receiver depth chart before Rashawn Scott was injured late in the opener, is close to the player he was before his gruesome ankle injury against Georgia Tech last season, Golden said.
“Is he 100? No,” Golden said. “Will he be this year? I don’t know yet. He was playing faster.”
### Defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio smiled when noting that freshman linebacker Jermaine Grace not only thanked him after Saturday’s blowout win for putting him in the game but also reminded him that he had six tackles.
### Artie Burns wasn’t able to seize a starting cornerback job (he was listed as a possible starter last week, but not on Sunday’s depth chart), and that’s not a surprise because he’s got quality older players ahead of him. But Burns remains firmly entrenched among UM's top four corners and coaches love the upside.
"He played over 30 plays and graded out pretty well," Golden said. "We have to get more production from him in pass breakups and tackles, things of that nature.”
### UM is pleased with tight end Beau Sandland’s emergence.
“He's gifted athletically, he has loose hips, soft hands,” Golden said. “The things we didn't know was how good he'd be with run after catch.”
### Game time for the Oct. 5 home game against Georgia Tech will be decided next Sunday.

Coach Al Golden, asked Monday about the progress of freshman quarterback Kevin Olsen, said Olsen “needs to really improve the mental aspects of his game” and “can’t waste this year.”
Said Golden of Olsen, who is expected to redshirt this season: “He’s got to learn the game. He’s got to be obedient to a regimen to be a quarterback, and it’s got to be the same every day. He’s got to be disciplined in terms of that. He’s not there yet. He hasn’t owned the process yet.
“He’s got to really improve the mental aspects of his game so that he can play the game fast, and he can’t waste his time, can’t waste this year.
“He’s got to get better. He’s out here right now throwing. He’s got to. He’s got to be out here throwing every day. And when we’re not throwing, he’s got to be throwing anyway.

I seen this over at CIS...
JUCO DT Julio Derosier decommits from UM
According to canesport UM commit Juco DT Julio Derosier has been removed from the 2014 list of UM committments which went from 25 to 24. This now opens the door for JUCO DE/DT Claude Pelon or even a propect like DE Jahid Ward in addition to the spot staff is holding for JUCO NT Cory Johnson.

Personally, I think this might just be Rivals finally realizing this kid is part of the 2013 class lol..I could be wrong. To be honest, I dont even know if anyone knows the deal with this kids. I thought he already has a financial package signed etc...but I DO NOT think he is a decommit just because Rivals removed him, he wasnt suppose to be listed with the 2014 class..not to mention there is no way they wouldnt have a story about it.. imo

Additionally, SEC commissioner Mike Slive suggested last week that the NCAA's rules on governing agents are part of the problem, this amid reports of possible problems at Alabama and Tennessee.
"I haven't talked to Mike about it, so I can't speak for him," Emmert said Monday.

I hope Al made em' run a gasser, for EVERY YARD! that they gave up on that TD...PATHETIC! Ain't get $hit right on that play...no aligment,no assignment, and DEFINITELY! no execution. We would've been better off not even sending a defense out there. That was just LAZY AS HELL!
And something else I don't understand, is why the hell does it take so long for the defense to get set. I saw that waaaaaaay too much against UF, luckily they didn't take advantage of it.
Posted by: CaneRock | September 24, 2013 at 09:20 AM
Also, I think Miami should give every potential recruit and/or freshman a copy of "The U" and the book Canemutiny. It should be mandatory for freshman to read that book.
Posted by: UMike | September 24, 2013 at 09:21 AM
Although I wonder how many recruits would read that book and think "why work that hard and maybe sit behind someone when I can go to Louisville or Wake Forest and start right away"
