The Miami Hurricanes baseball team officially opens its 2013-14 season schedule Monday, when the Canes take the diamond at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field for the first day of fall practice.
Under the direction of head coach Jim Morris, now in his 21st year at the helm of the program, the baseball team has high expectations for 2014 after recording its 41st-straight postseason appearance this past spring. The stretch marks the longest active streak for any collegiate team in any sport.
All practices at Alex Rodriguez Park, held every Monday through Saturday until Nov. 22, are open to the public. Practices are set to begin each weekday at 2:30 p.m., while Saturday practices will commence at 10 a.m. Scout Day will be held Friday, Nov. 22., and is tentatively slated to begin at 3 p.m.
Coach Morris released the team’s 2014 regular season schedule one week before the fall practice opener. To view the team’s full 2014 spring slate, click HERE.

No. 7 Miami's Nov. 2 ACC road game at in-state rival Florida State will kick at 8 p.m. ET and will be televised on ABC, the ACC announced Monday. It will be Miami’s eighth straight game on the ESPN family of networks in 2013.
On Sunday, Miami (6-0, 2-0 ACC) climbed three spots to No. 7 in the latest AP Top 25 and five spots to No. 6 in the USA TODAY Sports Top 25 Coaches polls. Miami is also No. 7 in both the BCS rankings and the Harris Interactive Poll. Both the Harris Interactive and USA TODAY Sports Coaches polls are part of the BCS ranking formula.
Miami is in the BCS rankings for the first time since Nov. 24, 2010, when the Hurricanes were No. 24. It is Miami’s first BCS Top 10 ranking since Oct. 18, 2009, when it was No. 10. Sunday’s ranking is Miami’s highest in the BCS since the Hurricanes were No. 3 on Nov. 13, 2005.

This can only mean they want to hit us hard, including another bowl ban.
It's the only reason I can think of why they waited so long to come out at this point -- this whole circus needed us to become bowl eligible.

McKinnie was one of he greatest Canes LTs, but someone tell young Seantrel that he should not hang out at strip clubs with his childhood hero. Seantrel shoul finish the season strong and try to improve his draft stock.

NCAA is about to issue a decision! It has to be good news because the timing is a Tuesday before a home game against Wake Forest, and 10 days before ESPN gameday showdown in Tally. My guess is no more bowl bans and a few schollies, which the Canes have already self-imposed.

I can tolerate a loss of 4-5 scholly's for a 3 year period. Anything outlandish litigate, litigate, litigate! The arrogant NCAA sure as hell better humble themselves!
Posted by: Canesteeler | October 21, 2013 at 05:34 PM
This doesn't sound like they're planning on dropping a big hammer on us. No Emmert. No formal presser from UM. No Shalala (don't even try to convince me she couldn't get back if she really wanted to be here, nobody at her alumni gig would hold her cancellation against her). Everything is just a guess, but the tea leaves tell me that this ends with a dud.

From ESPN:
"For months, there have been signs that the NCAA -- which has dealt with one high-profile scandal after another in recent years, and has been widely criticized for how it handled many of them -- was looking to bring some big penalties against Miami.
According to documents reviewed by The Associated Press, the NCAA asked the Hurricanes to provide, among other things: Information about how many scholarships Miami is using in football and men's basketball this academic year, how many Miami plans to issue in those sports next year, details of all postseason play in the last four years, and a review of all games that the school expects to play on television in the next three years.
That suggests the NCAA was considering scholarship reductions, vacation of some records, and a TV ban as possible penalties."
My take:
Scholarship reductions -- very likely.
Vacation of records -- Could be, but not too many meaningful wins to vacate from that era anyway.
TV ban -- no way, the NCAA wouldn't do anything that gets in the way of business, like investigating an SEC school, for example.
Bowl ban -- not mentioned by ESPN and certainly the thing that would propmt the school to fight back. I still think the COI will try to go down that road.
Posted by: VfB_Cane | October 21, 2013 at 06:17 PM
The Herb don't read no tea leaves but he sure drinks him some tea and what we get, is some ship losses, probably 10-15 over 3 years. If we hadn't taken the bowl bans, we would have gotten that too but we out smarted those azz holes and went ahead and got them bowl bans out of the way, unlike those idiots from OSU & UNC.
Posted by: herbieibis | October 21, 2013 at 06:29 PM
I can live with that, herbie. Vacating some of the meaningless wins doesn't hurt Golden, so I doubt we would care about that either.
Posted by: j.w. | October 21, 2013 at 06:36 PM
I didnt think the TV coverage was sanctioned by the NCAA, can someone verify that. I couldnt see them taking that away. Scholloies and no further post season ban should cover it. I would think our law school would be all over this if the ncaa tries to hammer us.
Posted by: MassivCane | October 21, 2013 at 07:27 PM

If they vacate wins it won't be the meaningless ones.

IDK if we get another bowl ban since that seems to be the "big thing" Miami doesn't want, but no way they hit us lightly. While it might not be the hammer we get, we will get hurt. As long as Golden stays with us, we will be ok.
Posted by: UMike | October 21, 2013 at 08:17 PM
If they hit us with anything, there better be some coaches get hit with "show cause", as well. Tired of only the kids getting beaten up.

Posted by: TonyCane | October 21, 2013 at 09:36 PM
Worst case scenario from the NCAA:
The Ibis has to do 10 pushups after each TD.
The Canes have to cut the cheerleaders by 2.
UM can only wear green and white with a hint of orange.
No smoke at the team's entrance to stadium.
Golden has to lose the tie.
