"Gary...Williams should be starting NOW and next year. And I say this with MUCH insider info from multiple sources. People will not like it, or accept it, but it is TRUE."

I think Morris and Williams are equal, because Williams's experience and Morris's inaccuracy pretty much even each other out. Williams is the better passer, and in 2014 it's his team.

Yet after having one of the worst games I've seen from a QB...

...Morris did through for over 60% and no picks, despite the loss of Dorsett. True, there were more than a couple of bad passes. But he didn't cost us the game in crunch.

LA3

Jimbo FishNETS scripts his first 15-20 offensive plays
+ our DEF is not prepared at the start of games (yesterday the sideline reporter said DL was yelling at each other)
= Down by 21 in the 1st quarter?

I love my CANES but if Noles start out hot and we start like usual...we are toast. We have been down 10+ in the last three games. I don't think we can come back from 10 down against Noles.

I think Noles hang half a hundred on us....And I don't think we can score 50 on them.

BigWindyCane1

Waketackles well and kept a deep safety to prevent explosive plays. The Canes defense did not have a good strategy and played into Wake's plan. Wake played a perfect game and lost.

When the season started, the Canes were unranked and Clemson was a national title contender. Some picked UNC and Virginia Tech to win the Coastal. This is why they play the games - to determine who is best. I don't know if the Canes will win, but I would like to see them come out and play like real Hurricanes and represent that U on their helmet

BEERicane

Wow, other voices of sound reason are showing up on the space the.

This game is poised to be an updated version of the Clemson game, probably worse.

Sure anything can happen in a rivalry game, but it's our only hope. A freak occurrence of a bitter rivalry. But it sure doesn't feel good to have to rely on rivalry mystique to keep this thing even close.

Go canes!

herbieibis

The Herb is disgusted! Offense is like a vanilla shake, not much pressure on the opposing QB as usual, and Morris, well is not playing like a 5TH year sr. I don't think Coley has much confidence in his passing to bring us from behind, but if we play like we have for the last 2 weeks, he's going to have to pass. We won't run on FSU like we did against Wake & UNC. Maybe it's because we don't pass block very well, who knows but you can bet your bottom dollar FSU is going to bring the heat. Our CB"S are the Jewel of the defense, it sure ain't our front 7. Wake has no business of being on the field with us from a talent stand point. I hope we come to play next week and maybe we'll finally bring the kitchen sink with us. That's what it's going to take to beat FSU.

SOUP

It's not that MoMo is costing us games it is that the Canes are winning in spite of him, not because of him. IJS

Oh the kitchen sink is coming to Tallahassee and it's name is Old Skool, NativeCane, Terrance, OGV, Canezilla and 86Cane. LOL

Actually U will see a completely different offense against FSU. And a seldom used position (hint, hint) will see a LOT of action against the Noles.

Ohio_Cane

There were a few plays that stick out from yesterday that at the time I said "wow, that may win us the game". Those were:

1. Coley's catch on the ground after it got tipped and then bounced off his chest

2. Duke's long run to get us near mid field from deep in our end

3. Clive's one handed catch

SOUP

Ohio...has the eagle landed in ohio?

SOUP, not yet

Right now I can tell you that FSU will kill us with crossing routes and TE wheel route.

If I was FSU I would target our safeties and especially #31 and #2 on the UM defense.

Posted by: LA3 | October 27, 2013 at 12:51 PM

Oh...and how do you know this?

HA....game tape.
Our LB's and DB's do not switch off or pass off crossing routes-ALWAYS look confused and they are not when 5 yards of the pass.
Always lose the TE or RB that sneaks out the back side. BUSTED COVERAGE.

SOUP...I would play 5 DB's most of the game! Their 15-20 passing game is sick.
Dropping DLinemen into pass coverage and expecting them to do something in space did not work yesterday and will NOT work against Noles. So put some athletes on the field and try man to man coverage.

HELL I am OPEN to any defensive changes!

Terrance Sullivan

LOL while people are getting pumped up by Baylor putting up crazy numbers ummm the teams they have beaten all 7 have losing records. People can call us the biggest fraud in the top 10 at least 3 teams we have beaten are either .500 in Wake Forest case or better Florida at 4-3 and Georgia Tech at 5-2 so while people complaining at least we arent playing completely garbage teams. Go Canes! Beat the Noles!

SOUP

Always lose the TE or RB that sneaks out the back side. BUSTED COVERAGE.

Watch the game, look for #31 covering the fullback out of the backfield on the backside swing pass. FB was WIDE OPEN, then #31 misses the tackle to boot. IJS

trianglecane

Considering the U is 7 and 0. I am happy with everything.

You all will be screaming for olsen after williams first int.LOL!

I thought-think the Canes were capable of going 12 and 0, considering our schedule, but the rational side thought we would have 2 losses by now. Here we are still standing.

We have a first year off coach, who has only managed to score more than every team we have faced. I know special teams blah blah. You get what I am saying. This is a special year so long as we don't tank.

I appreciate all the opinions on this blog, they help me to think outside of my Canes box.

LA3

What is #3 40 time?
He showed some great moves on the reverse and punt returns.
Our game plan should have several plays for him because he has a chance to beat man to man coverage every play and I think enough speed to open things up some. (Not PD 4.3 speed).

And I think Dallas needs 10-15 touches because running is going to be VERY tuff against Noles front 7. Need someone to run ANGRY!!! VERY ANGRY!!1

I would be I broker my TV yesterday THROWING things at it with #17 "touch".
I did see that play and the one WF missed early. That one was going for SIX.

Watching Morris I am certain that ankle is nowhere near healing. He is walking on gilded splinters, tip toeing around. He does not drop back, plant and drive off of it, and he gets happy feet with pressure. He is not using those feet legs hips and AZZ to drive the ball. As a result, a lot of stuff is high and/or way off. He is not exploding back into the pocket, and driving that ball home with conviction.

Too many picks, bad passes. I like SM, but I do not see him playing on Sunday yet...sorry. He may hold a clipboard and wear a baseball hat, but he is not ready for the big boys yet...way erratic.

Great kid, good leader, and he still gets it done especially at the end. I think that ankle is the root of the problem....and they are hard to heal up...just like any other injury cause in FB you have to move at all times. JMO

Very nice analogy

VA Cane

I never play zone or Tampa 2. I man up every guy. I match my best cover guy on their best receiver....and take it from there. I scout big time, and match my guys up with theirs.

I am a master teacher of up close man coverage. I do not bump and run; My first move is jack the shit out of the WR....I try to get away with all I can. I teach my guys how to hand fight with them, and how to hold them. Damn right....hold hand check, blast their ass....this is football....I want to frustrate them, bang them up, set them up.....I will even have one of my guys away from the ball blast a WR just before the ball gets there....I will take the penalty while the guy is on the ground wondering what the plate number of the truck that hit him is...it does 2 things....that guy will not be a problem the rest of the game....and the other cats see it and know that their fate will be the same if they venture into shark infested waters....thats my D name....the The Great Whites....cause my D is 11 guys who want to kill the opposition. We are really great at man.....if you got athletes you cannot go wrong. It also helps that my front and LBs are athletes and we get a lot of pressure out of the 46D .....and the old Dallas Flex...as well as a 4/4 stack.

We have to pressure the FSU kid...we did not yesterday...we got to hit him....DP and we must cover tight. If we can, we can run a little and spread them out pass it to TEs....and get a look long....and perhaps steal a win...JMO

VA Cane

Soup,

I have no problem with the CSM start at qb.....I think we can at least get him in for a few series at FSU....he sure has the ability!!!!!

21 point dogs to open. Ouch. And the line will progressively move up.

Lou Reed has taken his final walk on the wild side. RIP

The game this year with FSU reminds me of 1994. I don't remember our records at the time but nobody was giving us a chance to win. I am not saying we will win but we still get to play and anything can happen in this rivalry as we all have seen.

Noahcane5

By the way Frank Costas was our QB that year.

SHHHHhhhhhhhhhh...not so LOUD, coach.

WWIN

So basically what I'm hearing today is...

You stick wit your senior QB no matter how bad he plays and hurts the team, as long as we haven't lost yet???

He's almost making us lose and we're not winning bcuz of him.

Clwtrdan

Georgia by 3 over UF. The oddsmakers are not taking the rivalry effect into account in our game, but apparently did in the Georgia game against a depleted UF.

There IT IS right there!! Morris has not won games or emerged as the senior team leader this season. We are winning with better depth, talent and coaching from a total level. While this works against GT, WF or Duke it won't carry the day against FSU.

Our best chance is to keep it close until the 4th qtr and hope we can wear them down or make a big play at the end.

Sadly the odds makers probably have this one right, we can switch to another game by the end of Q1.....

But remember, its the VT game we need, we'll got another chance at FSU if we win out.

WWIN

WWiN, if you were head coach, no QB would sign on your team. Just saying.

So your philosophy is to recruit qb's and tell em, I have two qb's ahead of you so you want get to play until your jr or sr year, no matter if you out work em or are better than them you will still need to wait on your time??? Who do you think would wanna play for you?

Me on the other hand, I'm telling em I'm recruiting you to take somebody's spot this year and next year I'm recruiting somebody to take yours. I'm playing the BEST qb I'm not looking at classification

WWIN

We are starting a bad qb trend around here #...

Morris shoulda started over a sr J12 to help him prepare for the future.

Now Williams should start over Morris to help him prepare for the future.

Next year I hope is not the same.

Name some good college coaches that never try to give the back-up qb a shot no matter how bad the starter is playing????????

BigWindyCane1

Canes remain at 7 in AP and go to 6 in USA Today poll

Rock and Roll Animal by Reed...remember that one Old Skool?

I think the Canes coaches would take Morris over almost any QB in college.

Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | October 27, 2013 at 08:45 AM

BWC, BWC, BWC!!!

Its at LEAST 15 qb's better than Morris, even his back-up is better!! LMHO

If our coaches would take him over them given the opportunity, Houston we have a problem. We have the wrong coaching staff if that's the case.

CaneRock

Stephen simply has to take what the defense gives Him, and go through His progressions. On ONE of His high throws yesterday LOL, He should've dumped it off to Crawford. But on that same play, Coley should've sat in the zone. But the BIGGEST! thing with the above, is that Stephen has to go into the rest of the games, EXPECTING! to do that. That's not something that you just up-n-decide to do in a game..2 TOTALLY! different mind-sets.

It's like LBJ in the NBAFs last season, He kept trying to attack the paint, even though SA was saggin' back givin' Him the jump shot. But if you watched G7, He CAME INTO THE GAME!, EXPECTING! to hit jump shots. And hit jump shots is exactly what He did...and the HEAT WON! LET'S GO HEAT! LET'S GO HEAT! LMAO! YEEEEEUH!

Hey Soup I haven't been coaching for 17+ yrs for nothing. Lol

This is one of AG's flaws that he has to overcome. He has that mentality for all the other positions but not the qb position, why not? Every week on the depth chart its 20 OR'S listed on it and Morris hasn't had a OR besides his name in how long?? Its obvious Morris didn't put the work in during the off season, why not, bcuz he doesn't have NOBODY pushing him.

If you've noticed, AG has been mad at Kevin Olsen for not working hard and putting the work in to get better? Hmmm, probably because he knows the trend and sees what's going on right now with Morris/Williams, and is thinking it won't matter bcuz Williams will start next year regardless of what he does...
