Today, the University of Miami, held hostage under cruel and unusal conditions by the NCAA for the last two and a half years, is free at last.
Free at last, free at last, thank God almighty, "The U" is free at last!
And for Hurricane fans, freedom has never felt so good. Swagger is back!
Finally, after a long, drawn out, extremely messy and completely botched investigation by the NCAA, Miami Hurricane coaches, players and fans can celebrate a little freedom from severe penalties and sanctions that loomed overhead like a black cloud in Coral Gables for years.
By all accounts, UM got off lightly after enduring over two years of self imposed misery. Basically, the NCAA imposed a reduction of three scholarships over three years and three years of probation.
So now all that is left to ask is: "All that drama and nonsense, for this?"
UM head football coach Al Golden will soon get his five year extension at around $2.25 million a year.
UM head basketball coach Jim Larranaga already re-upped his contract after an ACC title last season, leaving UM baseball (2008) and UM basketball (2012-13) as the only major sports to have captured conference crowns.
After Golden gets his ACC title (and more?) this season, he will get his contract done this Summer. Then the NCAA can choke on it and the entire college football world will surrender in fear once again as the Miami Hurricanes rise to the top of college athletics and stay there for a long time.
Now all U have to do is just sit back and watch...
Freedom!

If Louisville keeps Clint Hurtt employed after this, will speak to the desperation of keeping its South Fla connection alive.
Apparently, L'ville can decide whether Hurtt stays on or not.

Now, if we're talking Tom Petty on this blog, these great lines come to my mind:
"I felt so good like anything was possible
I hit cruise control and rubbed my eyes
The last three days the rain was un-stoppable
It was always cold, no sunshine
I rolled on as the sky grew dark
I put the pedal down to make some time
There's something good waitin' down this road
I'm pickin' up whatever's mine."
Running down a dream - my suggestion for another blog title.

So, does that mean we lose three a year or we play with 76 scholarships for the next three years?

Texas, that means that we can have a MAX of 82 on scholly in a given year. UM can split those up in different ways, though.
Example: 3 (2014) - 3 (2015) - 3 (2016)
Or
Example: 1 (2014) - 6 (2015) - 2 (2016)
As far as I know, they can split the 9 over 3 however they'd like/need to.

The NCAA has been told Miami accepts its sanctions. No appeal from Hurricanes. This saga, by and large, ends today.
I said it many times 15 ships total at the most...We got 9 (3 per year for 3 years)...I think i am ok with that...
Miami will ask for a reduction starting next year...We have nothing to lose...As for some reporters just ignore what they write...Come here on Canespace to get your Canes news...

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord
Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand
I've seen your face before my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am
Well I was there and I saw what you did, I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies
And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord, oh Lord
Well I remember, I remember, don't worry, how could I ever forget
It's the first time, the last time we ever met
But I know the reason why you keep your silence UP, oh no you don't fool me
Well the hurt doesn't show, but the pain still grows
It's no stranger to you and me
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
Well been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord

I believe that the a FBS school can have 85 scholarships for football... so it doesn't even look like we will be affected much, especially if we can pull in a top notch class.
Not sure why we were running with less than the max number of scholarship players anyways.
Posted by: CalgaryCane | October 22, 2013 at 11:05 AM
Calgary,..I think the low number this year has to do with all the players who have left/been kicked out since last year.
Johnson
Dye
Paul
Dillard
Lockhart
Finnie
Terry
Grimble
I might be missing some, but all those players are gone from the 2012 roster.

A combined total of nine would mean playing with 82 scholarship players per year for three years, instead of 85.

Big. RT @John_Infante: Miami’s scholarship reductions are in *overall* counters, not initial counters. They can still enroll full classes.
Posted by: SOUP | October 22, 2013 at 11:19 AM
This does not necessarily impact Aubrey Hill because he now coaches at Carol City (in Miami-Dade) high school. Carol City has UM Commit Trayon Gray, who is a really, really good athlete. I saw Gray play against MNW, and he scored two touchdowns and could not be stopped. Gray could be a great RB or WR, or could even play on defense. CC plays Miami Central on Friday, and I will try to attend to compare Gray with Cook and Yearby up close.

Side Note: reading the updates on the Sean Taylor trial, why does there need to be a trial! These lazy @ss cowards broke into a home looking for cash. You can stop right there for me. You break into a house, you deserve what you get, hopefully 2 to the chest and one to the head to confirm!
I know there are a couple of legal folks on here, so maybe you can help me understand the "case". Why is there a defense lawyer? How can you morally defend someone who took someone else's life breaking into their home and trying to still money??? You should just come out and ask the mercy of the court, apologize to the family and got find a place to beg God for forgiveness!!!
I hate lazy people, I hate even more lazy people who try to get over hard working people. If you want to be lazy do it on your own. Hard working people already pay taxes so you can continue to be lazy. Now you want to go and try and rob them "again"!
Sorry for the rant, but had to get that of my chest!!!!

I bet Golden's first to phone calls are to Fisher and Muschamp:
"I know all about the negative recruiting U guys did against us in terms of the NCAA investigation, possible sanctions and all the "Death Penalty" talk. Now that this is over and we got off basically FREE, U better watch your back because now the cuffs and gloves are off and I am coming for both of U. Be afraid, be VERY afraid."

Miami penalty in perspective: #Canes could elect to take it all at once and play at 76 for a year. FSU has just 77 on scholarship this year.
