I give it less than three years before Texas seceeds from the Union. Followed closely by Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina and Florida.

Then they all get together to start their own football conference OUTSIDE of the NCAA.

I can agree with most of those, but I think Spurrier's the greatest. Such a rich combination of folksy, surly, sarcastic...

86, the eagle has landed! Thank U!

Throughout the 90s and early 2000s, I did not really hate FSU because they never hesitated to schedule the Hurricanes every year no matter how good or bad we were. The Gators and ND, however, are a different story. I respected the Noles as a formidable and worthy opponent, with good players and honorable coaches.

I disliked but respected the'Noles under Bowden because they were a worthy opponent that stood in our path toward five rings, but now under Jimbo and his negative recruiting, I am really starting to hate FSU

You cats have been on fire today! Love all the great info and stats. Keep up the good work.

Catching up on the day with my brand new very first Canespace t-shirt. Thanks Soup!

Check out the threads on Tomahawk Nation. Interesting read. Some excerpts:

I'm arguing that UCLA losing to good teams isn't the same thing as losing to bad teams.
I am NOT arguing Miami’s ranking. I am arguing Miami’s ability. I’m not sure how you’re missing that, exactly.

I don’t care a lick about UCLA’s or Washington’s rankings. But when you’re objectively looking at the best teams in the country, no, Miami shouldn’t get much credit for what they’ve done to this point. They’ve beaten seven teams that range anywhere from okay to terrible. They’ve beaten everyone that’s been in front of them, and more power to them. And in rankings, that’s what matters. Miami deserves their RANKING.

But when you’re looking at who the best teams actually are, and gauging what team would be favored in what game, Miami is not a very good team. And it’s not just as simple as saying Miami is 7-0 and Washington is 4-3, so Miami is great and Washington is terrible. That is a simplistic and childish way of looking at the sport.

Is Washington deserving of being ranked? Probably not. Are they the same as a generic 4-3 team? Absolutely not. They have losses to two teams currently ranked in the top 5, and the F/+ rankings of the three teams that beat them are #3, #4, and #6. Is Miami deserving of their ranking? Absolutely. Are they the same as a generic 7-0 team? Absolutely not. They haven’t played a single team higher than #30 in F/+, and only two in the top 50.

Here’s my point: Give Miami Washington’s schedule and they are, at best, 5-2. Probably 4-3. Give Washington Miami’s schedule and Washington is at worst 6-1.

Again, this has NOTHING to do with Miami’s ranking. This is about Miami’s on-field performance. Which has been incredibly unimpressive against mediocre competition.

Miami’s legitimately probably one of the 20 best teams in the country. They’ll likely finish the season 3-2 or 2-3 in their next five games. That’s hardly a bad team, it’s just saying that their ability is not in line with their current ranking. NOT that their current ranking isn’t deserved based on winning the games they had in front of them.

I think the offense will definitely be in sync...
If UM comes into the game thinking they are going to spread the ball and pass against FSU then this game will be over by half-time because Morris has been playing like crap and has proven to be over-rated and inconsistent as a passer. If he turns the ball over against FSU the way he has been doing then it’ll be over quickly. So it’ll probably depend on how much pride will James Coley swallow for this game. The smart thing to do would be to try to control as much of the tempo and clock as possible through the run game but I just don’t see Coley doing that early on. He tends to try to go pass heavy until it’s 9-1-1 .. So we’ll see what happens…

Sycane - most of the bloggers there are cool, I have posted there before in the past and its never been a problem. They run a well monitored blog. Basically those comments are what we all have been saying: This game will be our litmus test

Cool.

Yooper and KY...glad U got your shirts.

Ohio_Cane

86, one question. No shirts from the UF game left?

SOUP

Ohio...I have ordered more with the score included for this batch. Scheduled to pick them up in Jax on 11/21.

D4-Cane

Supposed to rain Friday all day, Saturday morning and afternoon then clear up for night time. Currently predicted 49 degree game time temperature. That's the current forecast, but who knows, weather always changes. I am undecided if a wet field and a chilly night will help our hurt us.

Ohio_Cane

Cool, jw. Like I told U, I'm more than happy to buy one

SOUP

D4...I heard about the same thing, clearing Sat afternoon and chilly by Florida standards at game time.

SOUP

Ohio...we could just meet at the BCS championship game when Miami plays Oregon and I'll give U the shirt there and save shipping? LOL

SOUP

Weather for Tally this weekend:

http://weather.aol.com/forecast/todays/us/fl/tallahassee/id/32399

D4-Cane

Typically bad weather favors rushing teams. We need Duke/Crawford/The Bus to put the team on their back and run behind our o-line. Gotta dominate time of possession and keep the ball out of Winston's hands.

Maybe a few shots downfield, but we can't afford quick 3 and outs early in the game with the way FSU has been playing lately. We need to keep the game slow and close, and ratchet up the pressure on Winston. He has been sacked 12 times, more than Morris and he has played less time. He's maybe played 1 full game at BC (I may be wrong), so who knows how well he will perform when he's getting knocked down and having to play all night.

In the end I am just so sick of the trash talking Noles fans acting like we have no chance. If we go out there and punch them in the mouth I might have to stop some of my friends from jumping off the Skyway Bridge haha!

SOUP

D4...just tell the FSU guys that there is a phone at the bottom of the Skyway Bridge to call suicide prevention just in case! LOL

Oh man that site has some brutal comments and pictures. Pretty twisted.

BigWindyCane1

D4, I have had the pleasure of seeing Duke run on a wet field from a field level view on several occasions, and I have rarely seen a running back that runs better on a wet field.

His feet are light and his steps are a thing of rare beauty. If he gets good blocking up front, Duke will run well on a wet field, no doubt.

MassivCane

12% crew fall in. Its FSU week. You know kehoe is getting his biys ready...

TonyCane

About this game, I will simply use Gimli's quote from The Two Towers:

"Certainity of death, small chance of success...What are we waiting for?"

TonyCane

Honestly, we have FSU in perfect position. They've blown out opponents, are ranked #3, and probably are believing that everyone is a cake-walk.

Miami has had to claw and scratch back in three straight games, is being badly disrespected, and is not that far away from the Seminoles in talent.

Bring them on. Bring them on.

JCane

Heather Dinich on the game:

http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/62380/fsu-miami-means-something-again-embrace-it

Hopefully we find a way to have some ball control on offense along with some nice mixed in passes to all receivers on the field. Sad to say, but a well-played close game with a loss by the U would likely earn respect nationally, unless perceived as an FSU implosion. Right now the U gets almost as much respect as a top 10 undefeated team as the KC Chiefs do being the only remaining NFL undefeated team halfway through the season (haven't played anyone with a winning record). I hope the U finds a way to earn MUCHO respect this week.

SOUP

Bring them on. Bring them on.

I am almost certain that that is NOT what she said?

JCane

Were you at the 1983 game in Tally, Soup? As I recall, I was freezing my arse off. Canes came back to win by one on Jeff Davis' field goal (the famous "this one's for you, coach."). Sounds like it won't quite be as cold this week.

SOUP

JCane...that is a negative. I have been to The Doak in Tally five times but the first time was in 2005.

D4-Cane

Brandon Meriweather on Brandon Marshall:

"He feels like I need to be kicked out of the league. I feel like people who beat their girlfriends should be kicked out of the league, too. ... You tell me who you'd rather have? Someone who plays aggressive on the field or someone who beat up their girlfriend?"

Can you say owned? Haha!

raizecane

For the FSU game I look at it like this.....we have everything to gain, and nothing to lose.

There it is right there.

D4-Cane

So who thinks this spread get closer as game day looms? I think it will be around 17 by kickoff.

NativeCane

TonyCane, Im with U, Miami should arrive in Tallahassee with a huge chip on their shoulder, I know Soup and his buds will!

DEM CANES!!!

NativeCane

Soup that Skyway site is interesting.

I will say its very strange feeling to be climbing that span in your vehicle enjoying all the beauty of the bay and gulf at Egmont Key then see a vehicle at the top and realize some poor soul just took a leap.

mountain cane

I have this thing about the Canes and cool weather. I was born and raised in Miami and never saw my breath, much less snow until I was in my 20s. Since, I've lived all over and cool/cold weather is no big thing.

So, let's don't talk about the 49 degree weather forecast. If I were golden, I'd wear a shirt and tie and nothing else. More important, the equipment guy would be banned from bringing those damn big coats. Remember when we wore them in Orlando a few years back at 55 degrees and no showed the game.

Our NFL canes have done well in Minny, Green Bay, Buffalo and other such garden spots. Man up.

Correction:

I'd wear pants too.

DAFUQ! is wrong with some of the folks in Texas! Can't stand when folks make DUMASS! comments like THIS!

“Going forward participation medals or trophies will be going away. KYA Football board feels that giving participation medals or trophies isn’t sending our children the right message,” the association wrote in a Facebook post. “Life does not give you a participation job or medal, life makes you earn everything you get,” the announcement continued.
