"You know the nearer your destination, the more your slip sliding away."
Could it really be possible to believe that Paul Simon was talking about the elusive BCS championship when he wrote those prophetic lyrics so many years ago? Just when you thought it was safe to be one of the front-runners in the chase for the 2013 college football National Championship, this happens.
On what should have been a perfectly calm, cool Fall Saturday in mid-October the stuff hit the fan.
On a weekend after your Miami Hurricanes managed to maintain their perfect record (6-0, 2-0) by squeaking out another victory against UNC in Chapel Hill on Thursday night and prevent their chances from slip sliding away for at least another week, the college football world decided that implementing the "Chaos Theory" was the only way to go.
And as fans of the Miami Hurricanes, we would all just like to say: "Thank U very much! The Hurricanes are now ranked at #6 in the coaches poll and #7 in the AP poll just released. Wrap it up, we'll take it!
So many top 25 teams lost, several to un-ranked teams, that it was simply mind-boggling. Here is a quick rundown of the chaos that ensued on Saturday:
- #6 LSU lost to un-ranked Mississippi.
- #7 ranked Texas A&M lost to #24 Auburn.
- #8 Louisville lost on Friday night to, get this, UCF.
- #9 UCLA lost to #13 Standford.
- #11 ranked South Carolina lost to un-ranked Tennessee.
- #15 Georgia lost to un-ranked Vanderbilt.
- #22 ranked Florida lost to #14 Missouri.
Now if that doesn't make your head spin I don't know what will! And, if it doesn't make you thankful for Miami's win over UNC then nothing will.
Furthermore, if it doesn't make UM take their opponents like Wake Forest seriously, well, then I don't know what will. That #6 ranking can disappear just as quickly as it showed up earlier today.
The past two Saturday's have clearly proven that every game counts equally and every team must focus on the task at hand each and every week or they too may find their chances at a 2013 BCS title just slip sliding away.
"You know the nearer your destination, the more your slip sliding away."
BAM!

From B/R....
Miami kept its perfect season alive despite Stephen Morris' four-interception dud. The
Hurricanes did not look like potential national champions against the UNC Tar Heels, but neither did a lot of other teams in Week 8.
Duke Johnson's backup, Dallas Crawford, broke out for 137 yards and two touchdowns against the Heels, cementing himself as a viable option in the 'Canes backfield. Miami needs to fix its passing defense to earn “elite” status, though, as the Hurricanes allowed 395 passing yards.
The Hurricanes will need to improve quickly with games against Florida State and Virginia Tech ahead.
-----
FIX PASS DEFENSE!!!! How about fix DEF!
I love the CANES.
But our DEF has GOT TO....GOT TO run some sets that give us a chance.
Just lining up in 4 -3 with LB's 5 yards off and zone in the rear is going to get us KILLED!
Have to try to create looks and confuse other teams. Jump in and out of coverages and blitz packages.
PLAY TO WIN! Or you will LOSE.
CHEERS!

this is awesome and a great boost for the team and coaching staff. AG willed this to happen, and it has. Now staying in the Top 10 is harder than getting there.
Go Canes
Beat Wake Forest

The ACC has 3 teams in the Coaches Poll and AP top 10 no other conference can say that. Go Canes!

Idgaf what happens when we face fsu . But we should be 5. Mizzou jumps to 5 from 14. We would mop then. Everybody has a bad game. Just like Peyton said... winning a game is tough. Smh

The Hurricanes will look for their first 7-0 start since the 2003 season when they host Wake Forest (4-3, 2-2 ACC) at noon Oct. 26 on ESPNU. Fewer than 7,000 tickets remain for Miami’s Oct. 26 home game vs. Wake Forest, which is also UM Employee Day. To purchase tickets, fans can order online at www.canestix.com, visit the UM Ticket Office at BankUnited Center (M-F, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.) or call 1-800-GO-CANES.

It's nice that we're moving up, like George and Weezy, the Jeffersons, it's time for Cooley to be a little more creative In the play calling.. Morris decision making is suspect, he thinks that he can make them throws,

Going to have a nice crowd this weekend. Let's come out and immediately pound the shit out of WF.

It would be awesome to get a sellout for the Wake Game this weekend.
Posted by: RJ | October 20, 2013 at 02:22 PM
Mizzou earned it but Baylor did not. But, I forsee Mizzou losing to South Carolina this week dropping them out of the picture. I also see Oregon possibly losing to UCLA which would also help us. Baylor will stay ahead as they play Kansas and I don't think Penn State has enough talent to beat Ohio State on the road.
The polls and analysts wont give us any respect unless we prove them wrong. And the only way that's possible is to beat FSU. After what FSU did to Clemson if we went to FSU and knocked them off we would jump an unbeaten Ohio State and Baylor. And barring that Mizzou and Oregon lose like I predict they will eventually. We could very well be #2 in the country behind Alabama.
I don't wanna get ahead of myself though. First we have to take care of business against Wake Forest and if we do so...we have to play ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS against FSU to have any chance. And they would prob have to have a bad game to for us to have any hope of winning. I love my Canes but I'm just being realistic at this point. FSU is farther along in the process than we are. However, we are catching up. Go Canes!

I agree, he's only looked comfortable in one game this year and that was against south florida.
My question is this, Duke was punished for 2 fumbles, so what will Morris get for 4 int's????????
Posted by: WWIN | October 20, 2013 at 02:49 PM
Agreed Willie Will. J12 played much better his senior year than SM17 has so far his Senior Year. SM17 gots to step it up especially against FSU and VT!

Devin Hester score on another spectacular punt return. Mike James playing a LOT for Tampa Bay with RB Doug Martin out.

That Dolphins O-Line is a PHUCKIN! sievish turnstile!
Posted by: CaneRock | October 20, 2013 at 04:13 PM
The Canes will win or loose the next game with Morris - Morris gives the Canes the best chance to win the Coastal Division and Golden knows that better than anyone.
By the way, Winston from FSU is great, but that group of playmakers, his offensive line, and his coaches are even more outstanding. Winston made a great throw to Benjamin, but how many WRs in college football could make that TD catch? Winston makes a short throw to Greene, then he turns on speed I have rarely seen in college football so a short gain becomes the longest pass play of the season.
I worry about the other playmakers as much as I worry about Winston when we play FSU.. still, let's beat Wake first.
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | October 20, 2013 at 04:16 PM
BigWindy, what has Morris shown you this year to make you so comfortable wit him? Every time he drops back I start praying. Its obvious our playcalling is to babysit him. I HOPE he improves but so far he hasn't given any reason to trust him.
Posted by: WWIN | October 20, 2013 at 04:28 PM
Florida Dolphins, Florida Dolphins, Florida Dolphins #1 lol.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | October 20, 2013 at 04:36 PM
If P17 would just check down underneath instead of tossin' it 30 yds. into coverage turning our receivers into DB's to avoid his ints the CANEZ wouldn't find themselves trailing this year.
It could have easily been 6 Ints

Dolphins lose-so sad..maybe they should have another gaytor day!

Posted by: CaneRock | October 20, 2013 at 04:13 PM
Perfect metaphor because a sieve or turnstile by themselves do not fully describe how porous the Dolphin's o-line is this season.
How we let Jake Long just walk away to save a few bucks is beyond me. As I've said before Ireland and Ross are tripping over dollar bills to pick up nickles.
Grrrrr Dolphins!

YUP!
Posted by: CaneRock | October 20, 2013 at 05:59 PM
We are six games into the season. Miami is still 2nd in the ACC in scoring offense and 3rd in scoring defense. The Canes are second in the ACC in total offense. Duke is still 2nd in the ACC in rushing and also has more than 7 yards a carry. Morris may be the 5th rated passer in the ACC, but he will play much better when he is healthy and his mechanics are back. I think he is actually ahead of where he was last year at this point in terms of passer rating, but check the
stats. Clearly the offense has scored more points. If the Canes clean up the turnovers, and I know that's a big if, the Canes can play with anyone.
