Composure. Confidence. Commitment. Clarity of purpose.
Add in a big scoop of resiliency, then throw in some true grit and determination. When combined together, what does that recipe make?
A Miami Hurricane victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels of course!
On Thursday night your Miami Hurricanes refused to quit.
They simply refused to lose.
They said out loud and in a clear and forceful tone of voice to everyone at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill North Carolina that "Failure is NOT an option."
In spite of what UM QB Stephen Morris called "the worst game of my career" the Hurricanes dug deep, stepped up late and found the will to win. Even four interceptions, several significant injuries, a defiant UNC team and a rambunctious Tar Heel crowd could not derail this team of destiny.
That's right, I said it.
This team that Miami head coach Al Golden has assembled and coached has something special. They have a can't lose attitude that leads them to the simple conclusion that they will not be denied.
And against the Tar Heels, they finally proved it.
In recent years, the Hurricanes would have quit, or folded and probably lost.
This year, this team, in this game, showed some true grit.
We like that. Yeah, we like that a lot.
This version says it was no foul!!! There is another that says yes. As a coach in a title game OT for NC.....I think it really was a bang bang play. There is some gray area....but enough to warrant a call? Hard to say. Bottom line: don't turn ball over, pass and run block, and stop them on 3rd 13....you are not in that position. JMO
That was the beginning of our wandering in the wilderness!!!!!

I was wrong....it was 4th and 14...wow!!! Here is a version that says good call...

USCe struggling with Tennessee. Down 17-7 close to half

Any here think our open field low blocking is terrible? Seems to me like every team we played throws a really good low block, but our guys seem to not do it we'll; and Duke gets a knee in the head doing one.

1. Most teams have a bad game in them sometime during the year.
2. Deserve Victory!

1. I don't want UM to be like "most teams". I want them to be better than that.
2. That they did.

Good to be back.
VA...the in-game comments are about what U would expect them to be. The day after was still pretty heated with me leading the way. I was in rare form!

UMike...I need some pointers again: Am I supposed tpo worry about Wake Forest or not? I seem to have mixed it up again?

Yes Soup, they were pretty wild everyone was up in the air.....except my buddy Canesteeler...always calm.
We still won, and to go 90 yards to do it is impressive. I will take it and move on!!!

I read maisel's piece and agree for the most part. The mental makeup to fight thru adversity is great..thanks Al.
Some of the adversity was our own fault, senior Qb, oc play calling and some of the defensive schemes.
Time to move on and go 7-0.

Saw a little south Florida high school football this weekend, and the Canes really have some good recruits. Would love to get Cooke and Philips from Miami Central, but Yearby is pretty good. I still insist that the Canes have most of who they want and they are all really really good.
South Florida high school football is loaded for years to come and the overall talent down here seems to get better and better.

Exactly what I was thinking. Three Top 15 casualties up to this point with a fourth guaranteed.
It's also a good reminder that every game is a struggle once you're getting to the meat of your conference schedule.

Johnny Football's pads look like they are from little league-I guess I'm old school but I hate these new sleeveless jerseys they remind me of wife beaters, also what happened to the "birdcage" facemask?

I think the pollster's would like to bury Miami but there seems to be enough movement ahead of and behind us to hold at #10. Does anyone think Mizz will jump us tomorrow?
Go 'canes!
And I also welcome rational Soup back! I've never seen you so pizzed after a win!
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | October 19, 2013 at 04:57 PM
Mizzou will jump us but if UCLA, the buckeyes and FSU all go down, we will move up 1-3 spots.
Posted by: BEERicane | October 19, 2013 at 05:05 PM
Oh, and the Aggies. If they lose too, we will move up by default.

As the stakes get higher for Hurricanes so does the emotional investment rise exponentially for every game. I had not yelled at my TV as much as I did for the UNC game in many, many years.
Plus I am SO tired of UM playing down to the competition. I thought we were SO done with that but apparently we still got some of that in our system. Time to spit that out!

Is that 3 people now ejected for targeting today? Must've had a ref meeting earlier this week to discuss how there haven't been enough examples of it so far... Wow.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 19, 2013 at 05:17 PM
I know what you're saying, but when you lose Duke and Dorsett, AND the QB is hobbled, close games happen. The D Backs were also dinged up.
The thing that troubled me was the apparent lack of urgency on both sides of the ball. That can be fixed. And the OC was also going away from what was working all night. Less is more when your QB is banged up in my opinion.
Go 'canes!
