Isn't this what University of Miami football fans have been waiting for?
Every year there is at least one Saturday that turns the college football season upside down. And now it appears that it could be this weekend.
Now, I just have to ask you one question: Isn't college football fun?
As of today the mighty Georgia Bulldogs of the SEC now have two losses, their last defeat coming at home today courtesy of the Missouri Tigers. Georgia lost by 15 points in a game that was never close.
Next up was the upset loss for Oklahoma to the once downtrodden and two loss team from the great State of Texas at the Cotton Bowl. The Sooners also were decisively humiliated as they trailed by a large margin for most of the game against the Longhorns.
At the half in ACC play, mighty #3 ranked Clemson trails unranked Boston College by the score of 7-3. Could it be that the Tigers could be caught looking ahead to FSU maybe? Well, maybe that is the case.
We will update this blog as the games continue this afternoon and even later tonight. Until then, feel good about the fact the your Miami Hurricanes are going to move on up the polls no matter what happens from here on in.
And that is without even playing a game on this second Saturday in October.

As a general matter, I like upsets. But in the specific case of BC vs. Clemson, an upset is definitely not in UM's interests.

I can see your logic, but if FSU beats Clemson, FSU is probably #4. Then when we beat FSU, we go to probably #4 or #5. Then you have a Top 10 FSU and Clemson and a Top 5 Hurricanes. We can jump Ohio St with a win against VTech who would be Top 25. We obviously still need the Oregons and Stanfords etc. to go down in front of us. By the time we get back to the ACC CG, FSU would be ranked in the Top 8. Either way we need other teams to lose, but we could get in the Top 5 sooner with FSU beating Clemson and us beating FSU. Its a matter of being established sooner.

South Carolina ran the score up on onion, Collins and Arkansas. Think Spurrier was trying to impress the pollsters but I don't think SC can skip ahead of the Canes at this point. The Canes are idle and have a real shot at making the top 10

While #1 is the only position in college football that I ever want the U to occupy. IMO a slow steady rise in the rankings will benefit us more than a big jump.
There's still a lot of football left to be played gents.
Full speed ahead but its still brick by brick.

Maybe. Utah is pretty well regarded as a tough out. If Stanford loses on the road and its close they may be #10 after a loss, Miami #11. As of right now I think we are #11 Miami.

I'm having trouble thinking whether I've ever seen anybody run one of these modern spread option offenses as well as Marcus Mariota. His body type is reminiscent of Vince Young, but IMHO he's much better than Young was.
Can anybody think of a guy?

From last night, with a slight tweak per today's upsets....
Deep within the torch lit bowels of the NCAA
headquarters....
An emergency gathering of the college football world had taken place. The events of the first week of September had been felt with a mixture that was part revulsion, part envy, and part fear. And with each passing week, with each crushing win, these feelings had grown. Morale amongst this consortium had plummeted. And now, after Upset Saturday, a sense of near panic had taken hold.
But a series of secret emails, tweets, and land line calls had produced this clandestine meeting. They were all there, all who had been opposed to Miami.
Maybe it was delirium caused when the air conditioner faded and Bevo's fumes became impossible to bear. Maybe it was the bickering between various coaches, broadcasters, and one infamous referee. Or maybe it was a sense of shared doom. But finally, an idea was formed. Soon the various luminaries had gathered into a makeshift music studio. Tonight it was time to sing.
The lights dimmed, and a familiar theme once heard in 1985 began. Only the lyrics were markedly different....
[To the tune of We Are The World]
"There comes a time when we heed a certain call...
When college football's establishment must come together as one
The Hurricanes are rising
And it’s time to lend a hand
to stop, the greatest team of all.
We can't go on pretending day by day
That Al Golden has not made a change
We are all a part of one corrupt big family...
And the truth, you know, the money is all we need
[Chorus]
We are ones, the college football establishment
We are the tools who like make the rules
So let's start cheating
There's a choice we're making
We're believing our own lies
Its true we'll make a better day
without Mi-ami
Give them some sanctions, ones we think they can't withstand...
And our programs, will be stronger and free...
[Chorus]
When Shannon left, there seemed no hope at all
But with Kehoe back, there's no way they can fall
Let us realize that our nightmare has just begun
Our only choice, is to stand together one
[Chorus]
We are ones, the college football establishment
We are the tools who make the rules
So let's start cheating
There's a choice we're making
We're believing our own lies
It's true we'll get our teams blown out by Mi-ami
