This is it.
The time has finally arrived.
Al Golden has reached his moment of truth.
All of the cute little slogans, and promises, and interviews come down to this:
The current head coach of the Miami Hurricanes faces his first MUST win game. Al Golden must find a way to beat Virginia Tech to have the possibility of reaching the ACC title game for the first time since UM joined the ACC.
Failure, or losing, to most Miami Hurricane fans is simply not an option today at home as it was last week on the road against highly ranked FSU.
The Miami Hurricanes under head coach Al Golden MUST win this game.
Anything less would be totally unacceptable.

9-3 or 10-2 is a MUST! Along with the bowl win!!!
FSU was 9-3 just two years ago won their bowl game and now look just two years later! The NCAA cloud is gone future is bright!

Whoever said Loagn Thomas was gonna have a field day was dead on…25 of 31 for 366 yards. 2 TD's and 0 INT's. and rushed for more yards than Miami.

Yes Indeed. This was a must win game and for our team to crap the bed was inexcusable and the gloves are off.

From skimming the posts here, I'm glad I couldn't watch this debacle. Sounds like a total meltdown. I watch one play on watchESPN app on offense, the bomb to Hurns, then saw the next VT drive and hot the impression I got a pretty good picture of the entire game.
Posted by: BEERicane | November 10, 2013 at 01:01 PM
great point CoCane. listened to AG post interview and he sounded like a complete blistering idiot. with the usual blah, blah, blah. fucking up all that talent he got. he oughtta be ashamed of himself.
Posted by: PapaCane1963 | November 10, 2013 at 01:05 PM
Now can we finally stop the lack of talent talk? There is no way u can say vt has better talent than us. We were beat by a guy who was recruited to be te. Even with the ncaa vt has not ever out recruited us in the past the years. I just don't get this staff they have an uncanny a ability to deflect blame and minimize their weaknesses while trying to enhance their strengths that's why all u heard was how we lacked talent, were freelancing, just trust the process, u tough
If only this staff could gameplan against an opponent like that maybe they wouldn't always have to feed us the same bs

3rd-and-17 and Logan Thomas completed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Joshua Stanford that pushed the Hokies’ lead to 28-14.
3rd-and-12, Thomas completed a 48-yard pass to Willie Bryn
The Hurricanes, who gave up plenty of big plays on third down last week against Florida State, did the same against Virginia Tech.
Miami’s defense gave up more than 500 yards for the second consecutive week.
Posted by: LA3 | November 10, 2013 at 01:07 PM
Bottom line: 19 returning starters plus most of the 2 deep & the play still hasn't improved. "No excuses this year". Golden said that...
Posted by: CoCane | November 10, 2013 at 12:28 PM
its obvious now. AG doesn't have a clue and he's in over his head. he has been exposed and doesn't know how to coach any other way.

Canceling cable on Monday. I will be saving roughly $35 to $45 dollars a month. Switching to Netflix and will be focusing in on my last semester in Grad school.
D'fro is horrible at his craft and should be fired. Honestly not so sure Golden has what it takes to get us back....

“I think we need to step up and we need to make stops,” defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio said. “Every score that they had today was attributed to one or two things. We either had bad coverage or missed a tackle and that’s disappointing it. We had opportunities to get off the field and we didn’t do it.”
WHO'S to BLAME????
I watched the 5 or 6th crossing pattern and #52 took two steps then let him go. Gained about 20 yards.
Other crossing patterns...there was NO ONE there. I could have throw the ball to the guy..

its not the lack of talent. its the extreme lack of coaching and their inability to take resposibility for their horrific philosophy, scheme, and game planning.

3rd and 17 is my rally cry against this defense.
Posted by: The Dude | November 10, 2013 at 01:26 PM
The view from the day after....
Last night was a total failure of several years of rebuilding. There was no phase of the game where we showed any improvement from several years ago. Forget recruiting class stars, schedule, injuries etc. These are excuses for losers.
My sympathy for all who paid to sit in the rain. You supported and deserved more than our team and coaches gave you.
The truth is we're not much better than
years ago, and with Duke out probably worse.
SM and the OL are busts. Agree with the above post, everyone likes Kehoe but I've yet to see a dominate OL. SM has never improved from day 1.
There is nothing on the D side worth talking about. We were one of the worst last year, and little improved this year. To see the same play run over and over for big yardage tells me our players and coaches are not ready for this level.
Lets also keep in mind VT was an unranked team. My guess is after this Thomas will be getting votes for the Heisman.
I still figure us for losing 2 of the last 3. 8-4 just as I called it, and thats because of a soft schedule.
Its time to decide what we need to do to get past this level of failure. No'd must go, the sooner the better, or we'll keep losing just as we are. At the post game last night all he could say was we didn't execute. Translation, we have no idea what to do on the field.
As much as I've said give AG time, I'm afraid I was wrong. We're getting schooled every time we play a better team and struggle against the others. Same view at the post game he had no answers for failing so badly.
Spacers, we need to be real. Unless No'd goes the D will not improve. And if so, AG will not be coaching here much longer.
I feel sad, have no more weeds to pull.
Sorry SOUP, you esp deserved more for all you do than the team and coaches gave you last night....

Sorry CGNC, did not mean to bite your head off, just feeling a little pissy today as U can imagine.
Mrs. 86 refuses to go to Miami for any reason except to see family. Plus I leave on Wed AM for work in SoFl prior to the game so no way she can take all that time off to go with. She holds down the fort while I am away. I love that woman!
First load of laundry is in. Now 1 hour to download/select/edit photos and write something up for da blog. Then I gotta go mow the grass. A man's work is never done!

Got some good photos of the tailgate, which was the best part of the game.

Emotions of last night aside, this was one of those games that happens to most teams, where the players and coaching staff do not show up. If you have enough talent and good adjustments, you can come back after half time and win (ala Florida State vs Boston College).
We are more talented than VA Tech, but just barely. As shown previously, the Hokies had the third highest average star ranking of any team on our schedule (Florida and FSU were the highest, V Tech's average was just a hair below Miami's). The idea that this was going to be a blowout was wishful thinking.
In some respects, this year's Canes are very similar to the 2009 version at the point where we faced Clemson. That Shannon-led team had a crust of elite talent, but poor depth. And by the time it faced Clemson, injuries had depleted the starting lineup. Same situation (on offense) for Miami now.
That said, I cannot explain the defensive collapse over the last four games. The injuries we've sustained were primarily on offense.
Going on to Duke, this SHOULD be a blowout for Miami if you look at the talent levels.
MIAMI:
5 Star Players: 2
4 Star Players: 22
3 Star Players: 62
2 Star Players: 7
DUKE:
5 Star Players: None
4 Star Players: 1
3 Star Players: 42
2 Star Players: 37
On paper this should be our most winnable game left.

Posted by: raizecane | November 10, 2013 at 03:43 PM
Its funny how NOBODY else wanted kehoe but we brought him back bcuz he has rings??????
Its funny how we bring back former players to be around the program, put their pictures and posters on the wall, and let em give speeches. Then we teach em to play the exact OPPOSITE????
Its funny how we have to rebuild for 5yrs to beat teams we already have more talent than??
Its funny how we hire a db to coach the rb's, a position that he's NEVER coached before, and we hire a te coach to coach our wr's???

It's been three years and I don't see improvement in any area. Not one. Not even the kicker. We don't even have one first round prospect. Not one. At least the Bitch could recruit AND coach first rounders with 30 less scholarships. Hell, look at his 1999 class.

+1
I did not expect to see what happened last night and am getting over the shocking result. Golden must step up & make a change regarding his friend DNO because that's the only reason he's still is here. Sucks, but last night can't be ignored.

Its also funny how Golden and D'no took credit for defensive improvements and credited to players growing up and knowing the system after the fau, Florida, usf, and south fla games, but now all of a sudden they DONT KNOW THE SYSTEM??????
